I wouldn't have stood there with bricks being thrown left and right hollering " woohoo" every ten minutes. But then I am a very practical person and try to always have a plan B in case plan A doesn't fill the need. I would have had wooden plywood boards stored in the garage with sandbags filled and placed in front of the base of the wooden boards to protect the house from seeping water. Did he not think those flying bricks would break his skull the closer and bigger the surge of water became? It's like...well, Duh....didn't know that might happen to me! And then the wife going over to help save a neighbor's potted plant right at the height of the wave's crests? Water in any mass amount can wipe you out of everything...and flood water cannot be controlled, only influenced and encouraged to go where you want it to go. And there is only so much you can do to achIeve the containment...so plan ahead and be ready with a protective plan B in case of water flooding. This man had not, and was not willing or serious enough to stop filming and do what he might have done to protect his family and his property. He was way too unconcerned. Baffles my brain. I guess he thought he would garner a lot of UTube viewers but i think it backfired on him. DUH.

A major storm can raise sea levels by several meters. Your beach house might best be on stilts -- even then, it needs deep roots to avoid being washed away.
They should have reported that the waves were trespassing on their private beach. Afterwards they should have demanded that the Federal and State governments need to pay for the beach repair.
I live on the coast. I know it's tempting to have a house right there on the beach but any house that is less than 25 feet above the record tidal surge for their area is vulnerable to this sort of erosion. I live 42 feet above the record tidal surge for my area, 33 feet above the record tidal surge for my state and 8 feet above the record tidal surge for the region. That's at grade. My living room floor is another 18 inches above that. I can walk down to the beach in under 10 minutes any time I want to but I am nice and safely away from the water, 3 blocks away. The houses in my neighborhood are well over 100 years old though mine is made of concrete.
Reminds me of the Sunday school song... the foolish man built his house upon the sand...and the rains came tumbling down... well the rains came down and floods came up...... and the house on the sand went crash.....
Rising sea levels. King tides. Converging storm systems . Sand dunes are there for a reason...to replenish the beach naturally during high tidal storms. 🌊🌬

My fear of Tsunamis would never allow me to live this close to the beach again. But this dude's house is literally on the beach and you didn't think that will happen?
exactly regardless of how rare that is its still rt there
Seemed unphased by any damages I would guess a vacation home rental not owned by this person.
@@musicfanhawk4523 Agree. But Dana Point is a very expensive location to rent a vacation home - seems like they don't understand that they could get washed out.
Did they not watch this before posting it? I'd be too embarrassed; but then I wouldn't have been there filming it, either.
He just seemed so astonished...I would be putting plywood up on the windows and doors and get the heck out of the waters way, it's embarrassingly naive to not get the family to a safe place. The man says we will need a few bricks laid after the storm, and his son says you're going to need A NEW HOUSE! The son is more practical than his dad will ever be. And then the wife going over to help save a neighbor's potted plant right at the height of the
wave's crests? Water in any mass amount can wipe you out of everything...and flood water cannot be controlled, only influenced and encouraged to go where you want it to go. And there is only so much you can do to achIeve the containment...so plan ahead and be ready with a protective plan B in case of water flooding. This man had not, and was not willing or serious enough to stop filming and do what he might have done to protect his family and his property. He was way too unconcerned. Baffles my brain.
I guess he thought he would garner a lot of UTube viewers but i think it backfired on him. DUH.
“I didn’t see this coming” 😂
I hope no water was damaged during this recording. (Looking for my world’s smallest violin.)
I like the way you think!
When is high tide? In an hour! LOL...I spit my drink!
nice oceanfront view!
I couldn't believe it when the woman jumped up on the edge of the patio. Hey, people, tides last 6 hours - get your stuff and LEAVE!!!
She had her eyes open though. She saw what was going to happen once the piers were undermined and went back in. He didn't seem to hear what she was pointing out.
3 hours in 3 hours out.
@@raypitts4880 Umm, 3 hours in, 1 hour standing around slack, then 3 more back out!
@@mariebernier3076 Yeah..no.
@@FellLetsPLay Yeah, that's how tides run, sweetie. Why, how do you think they are?
These people are the most unbothered, relaxed, people ever. Waves crashing onto their deck, almost reaching the house, destroying the deck and he’s like “woo hoo!” I’m very confused.
In the Caribbean we say “The sea does not have a back door”, some smart folks here
My Bajan grandmother told us that. Apparently no one told him.
💯
what about glass top table? think it could do some damage?
Being so low and so close to the water, I'm amazed this isn't a regular occurrence!
It is all over the world. Catch up man.
@@wientz citation needed Sir. Please enlighten me on just how much sea levels have risen here in the past, oh, 2 or 3 decades or so. Apparently, you think it's enough where at one time, this house was high and dry, but at the time of this storm, it was just a few meters away from the ocean. That would have one heck of a substantial rise in sea levels!!! Funny that it's only been noticed at this one spot!
smfh. . .
I'm still amazed that beach properties are still among the highest priced homes.
Sea: "I'll be back"
So gay
💪
Haha!
Never underestimate the force of sea waves and not have fun with it!!. (retired sea captain)
I wonder why no one is clearing their property off the patio, like umbrella's and chairs etc..?
Thats too much effort
Doesn’t matter, they can just buy new ones. She lost her sunglasses and cup on table, so clearly they don’t worry about money.
I fell asleep to the wonderful sound of waves and woke to your patio disappearing, that sucks
Perhaps the building of the Dana Point Harbor (1968) and interrupting the natural lotteral drift of sand was the death sentence for the homes along this little stretch of beach.
I could never live next to the ocean like that.. after all the videos I've seen of tsunamis! No stopping nature!
RIGHT?! That's almost exactly what I just said!
That's amazing .the most distructive part of hurricanes is storm surge.stay safe
They CLEARY don’t own the house. Otherwise, they would be more concerned snd trying to do what they could by moving the tables, chairs, umbrellas, etc. 🙄🙄
They could at least be considerate to the landlord!
Tourists
in this day an age they could just be clueless
You do know that tables, chairs, umbrellas, etc.... are all replaceable. Right, you do know that?
@@ChiliCheeseD0g Not sure what your point is here, but you obviously missed the point of my comment!! 🙄🙄 Good grief! For clarity.... at no point were these people choosing to save their lives over ‘things’! They were choosing to ‘video’ instead of securing items that could be damaged or could have actually hurt someone! Hope now YOU realize the obvious!!! Ugh 🤦🏼♀️ An owner, would have been more interested in securing the property than making a video for You Tube!!!!!
Living on the beach is beautiful...albeit temporary. Keep your checkbook handy!
A major storm can raise sea levels by several meters.
Your beach house might best be on stilts -- even then, it needs deep roots to avoid being washed away.
The ocean beautiful and deadly
Yaas...thought of it though had forgotten the words..thank you 🙂
Mother nature always reclaims what she builds.
It’s so weird that the waves kept coming.
right
also high tide adds to it.
Rising sea levels.
King tides.
Converging storm systems .
Sand dunes are there for a reason...to replenish the beach naturally during high tidal storms. 🌊🌬
This would cause me nightmares and severe depression! Scary stuff!!!
I will never understand why there are people who think it's a good idea to build a home THIS close to the shore, especially ones that are vulnerable to strong waters.
Well from the looks of it that house was built in the 70s so it had a pretty good run.
That’s about right.
The ocean is so cute ..it’s just coming to play ..like a little puppy 🥰😍🐶🌊
You're going to repair the home many and many times: it's simply stupid to build houses so close to the sea
It’s also very selfish. The beach is for all to enjoy not the rich.
@@frankboff1260 exactly but this is their payment from nature
@@frankboff1260 No its not. it all depends who owns the beach. If people payed for it it is theirs. We are not living in some communist shithole
If I buy a piece of land or beach it is rightfully mine and I decide who i allow access to my property.
@@Mrs.Karen_Walker We have people that live in houses overlooking the beach. But the beach itself is for everyone to enjoy.
If you think that’s communism it’s because you don’t understand communism.
It’s extremely sad that you believe considering your fellow countrymen and women is a communist concept and not one of human decency and mutual respect.
Who could possibly know that the ocean generates waves that keep coming to the shore?
That’s what happens when you build to close to the ocean.Never underestimate the ocean as she is very powerful
So it's a she?
Goes to show you the ocean is rising!
That beach was way wider 35 years ago. Beach road has lost the sand . It used to be 100 yards wide
Most days, the ocean is very serene and peaceful.....but every once in a while, the ocean has so much energy, from thousands of miles away that there is little one can do. IT does help to understand this ...and be prepared.
This is crazy... you guys are really strong man. How are you so calm? Hope everything is fine after the storm.
Insurance
I would build mine on columns hollow underneath but not that close to the water
Great footage and thanks for posting this! I hope ya'll came through it without too much water damage inside the house or to the foundation. I would be interested to know what kind of replacement seawall was built.
Thank you! No significant water damage inside and I have a video on my channel about replacing the sea wall. Nothing fancy, we did it ourselves and dug it quite a bit deeper this time
@@JackofSomeTradesChannel Awesome!
Stay safe. 💕😇🙏❤
if your doing it under cover of night with no permits rent a crash pump/dockbuilders pump from home depot and jet some 12 foot poles in and then jet the planks a good 8 feet.....won't stop the ocean but will hold it back a bit
@@JackofSomeTradesChannel Yall need to get some boulders installed in front of the wall. I can't believe that it hasn't been done already, considering that you're sitting on sand.
So satisfying to watch!

Wow! This is exactly why I would never....EVER buy a beach house so close to a hungry ocean.
FEMA is backing out of insurance on dummies who build so close to the ocean,. Why should our tax dollars go to the wealthy and beach homes. I work myself to death, but I appreciate a roof over my head!
@@reglook1 ......Amen, Brother!
Same for all the idiots that build in river flood basins especially along the Mississippi.
exactly I'm in Michigan and Lake MI has taken MANY MANY homes from the coast ( Lake Michigan ) noone but noone builds on the coast here and the. homes still standing have planted dune grass beach grasses built solid sea walks and anchored then down deep. thats on a Lake a big lake indeed but not an ocean.. Im not sure how people can possibly think it won't happen there. it's not if it's when type of thing for sure.

I don't know what the end result was now nearly a year and a half later but I hope all is well. I am sorry for your experience watching this unfold. Your optimism and reaction was inspiring. What can you do in this situation? Panic, freak out? Curse like a sailor? Run around frantically....None of those things would do any good. The people commenting on this are mean, judgemental and inconsiderate. This may have only happened once. Clearly you were not the only people on the beach in houses. Maybe just haters that wish they had a house on the ocean.
I think it's awesome when the ocean takes out a beachfront house....
Well, not if anyone is hurt, but it's hard to feel much sympathy for people that buy oceanfront property. They had to know this would eventually happen.
Well I guess come high tide your house becomes a submarine 🤣
good one😂

Must be nice living in the ocean.
