I like the old art style because its less exaggerated, simplistic, sometimes downright relaxing, much less saturated, and unique. Seasons 1-3 make me feel like im underwater. Seasons 9-11 make me feel like I'm in a loony toons episode, and theres nothing wrong with that, but i honestly prefer the original style.
what about 4-8? in my opinion they were good and season 9 just ruined the show
Jai season 4 started off with a decent art style but 5-8 were very bland and boring to look at. They had bright, unchanging colors, and animations that looks like it’s from Family Guy (which is supposed to look boring). As much as I don’t like how they deviated from SpongeBob’s style in the latest seasons, at least it’s obvious there is effort and character to it. Late season 4 and 5-8 are some of the worst seasons art style-wise in the show.

The old spongebob resorted to humor through funny jokes.
The new spongebob tries to resort to humor with over the top expressions, which are not funny. And yes, new spongebob does have jokes, but they're not funny. Also it looks like they needed to make characters dumber than before, like Patrick, nickelodeon basically thinks that DUMBER=FUNNIER and yes, Patrick has always been dumb, but it was in a good way before, it didn't stress me so much to watch a new episode. With all those over the top expressions, new spongebob is really painful to watch for me.

yes i agree. This is a big issue. They really think we're dying laughing to the characters stretching their faces. Animation too exaggerated. They arent even using it properly, its every second it happens

The original Spongebob was so much more original, intelligent, alternative, and funny. I don’t bother watching the episodes after the movie nowadays.
Kim Kardashian Un But even as a kid I could tell the difference of Spongebob after the movie. I think kids can easily pick up on quality shifts. My mother said she could tell the same thing about The Flintstones when she was a little girl.

Stephen hillenburg came back to the show after the 2nd movie with some original writers! Theyre actuallly TRYING with new episodes and ideas, season 10 was very good! Not better than old spongebob, but i recommend it... you might be impressed...

Why they are good
I really don’t like the modern animation style. It’s too bright and almost too expressive. I much rather prefer the clearly hand drawn, darker animation style of season 1. However, in my opinion, the best animation style was in seasons 2 and 3. It had the perfect blend of everything.

They had subtle references to culture on occasion. In the talent show episode from Season 1, Squidward disparagingly referred to Gary as "Ginsberg". Also, "overly expressive" does not properly describe how annoying I fin that, in the new episodes, all the characters are shouting and screaming constantly.

Actually the new animation is gross to me. I feel like they used more value in the old episodes, it felt warmer and easier watch. The new animation is so bright and flat it's hard to watch

Yep. The duller colors of older cartoons allowed for a bit of a realistic feel that was calmer and more inviting. Cartoons today are annoyingly bright to the point that you are constantly being reminded you are watching a cartoon for children. I just can't get into the program like with older cartoons, and the useless, over-exaggerated reactions every other second are annoying, too...

I think it was much better when Spongebob was more like a slice of life series and without them making exaggerated faces every 2 seconds. The old humor was also much better. The episodes were also mostly more slow and not so fast paced. I really hope it will be like this again. But I think now that Stephen Hillenburg is gone, Spongebob will never be the same again.
I loved the older version better. The new one nowadays just seems a little too wacky. It's like the creators are just overdoing it. While to old one seems just relaxed and laid back and the creators are just taking their time with the show. It has its wacky moments but it doesn't overdo it as much.

Old SpongeBob is definitely better. I think the reason the animation is overexaggerated in the newer episodes is because they’re trying to overcompensate for the lack of humor and ideas that they used to have in the early episodes.

Yeah, after season 4 i believe. Head writer left and the crew got overhauled. the dynamic of the episodes changed, as well as frame rate and technology. Episode and season where Mr. Krabs had hidden money in his mattress (can't remember plot) was the turning point for the new seasons

It stinks, but digital animation is the future. Even on RUclips, it's changed a whole lot. The Lazer Collection (remember that??) was hand-drawn originally, hence why 1) it's so short and 2) so charming. Newer animators though, they have more money and resort to digital animation to make more content faster. Sometimes a show can really pull it off, like Adventure time, but a lot of the time it just comes off as weird.

One thing I liked about the older episodes was how weird and smart the dialogue was. Like The thing Patrick said before thinking about spilled milk and more examples. Seasons 4-10 all have obvious jokes in the speech.

Since I was born in Libya, There was only the old version, so I just grew up with watching the same episodes over and over and they were still fun to watch.

Im a grown ass man but the episode with spongebob and patrick having fantasy fun in the box makes me and my friends laugh very hard to this day, Alone the part with the police chase or the mountain climb are just gold and arent even visualized. Thats what i love the most the message is literally to use onesself imagination to run wild while they give audio.

the old episodes are simply legendary. You hear quotes from the old episodes, never the new ones. Thats because 20 of the new episodes are like 1 of the originals.

I hate the over exaggeration of the expressions they do in the latest season, I just don't find it funny. Maybe for little kids it is, because that's what the show is geared towards to, obviously. The old Spongebob will always crack me up, and has the best memes!

Spongebob ended after Season 3. The “new Spongebob” is literally an imposter and doesn’t even have the same personality as the classic one. Even Stephen Hillenburg wanted to conclude the series after season 3 and the movie.

If you talk about the german version of Spongebob, the voice acting is also a major change. The german version is actually very good in terms of voice acting. Like, it's scarily close to the original, often times even better imo. But over time they changed the voices of Patrick and Squidward. I can understand Squidward because his VA died. The new one isn't nearly as good (probably because I'm used to the old one) but Nickelodeon can't resurrect the dead. Patrick's VA was changed due to financial reasons I think. The old actor was iconic and I guarantee you all the classic lines Patrick had in the first few seasons are just as good in the german version. The new VA, although he's trying, is not anywhere near as good and fitting. I thought I could get used to it but for some reason the old VA voiced a one off character in a new episode recently and hearing the old voice and the new voice talk with each other felt very surreal.

Just in my opinion, Classic Spongebob and some of Season 4 are the only seasons worth watching, with the occasional gem here and there in the newer episodes. I actually have trouble watching Modern Spongebob now because it always seems to hurt my head. I have gotten some good laughs from a few of the jokes, but overall I find it pretty unbearable.

I kind of... don't like how Bob is this neon highlighter yellow now. It's just distracting. The cool, faded yellow in the earlier seasons just made it more pleasant to look at.

What its missing is our youth. We tend to romanticize things of our childhood. That being said i definitely prefer seasons 1-3 and havent watched the show in years, but even if the content was much better then I expect it to be, it still wouldnt compare to me watching the show of my childhood.
