I'm a Ford guy but this is a great video. Andre looks excited and is asking great questions. Honestly I think the big 3 are all making great trucks right now, they're just too expensive.
You dont have to pick a super high trim truck though if you want every bell and whistle you'll pay the price. I work for a ford dealer and so many people come in wanting king ranch/platinum equipment for an STX price. I think best bang/buck is the xlt or if your feeling a bit fancier lariat. You also have to compare these trucks capabilities amd features to trucks of the 25-35k max new era. F 150 5.0 gets 17/22 (@395hp/470 ft/lb). The 00 got 15/17 (@260hp/350ft/lb) To compare the 7.3 international TD made (275hp/525ft/lb) 01 F 350 could hitch 13.9klb and 5th wheel 14.2k. 2019 150 can hitch 13.2k
The leveling kit and removing the valence are why this truck isn't getting the expected fuel economy. That valence significantly improves the drag coefficient.
its a truck tho. if your buying a truck for fuel economy you probably shouldn’t buy a truck. after adding the level on my 14 the fuel economy difference was barely noticeable
Bryant Roscoe Are used to think the same way, it cost too much. But you take a 1971 Chevy C 10 and compare it to this truck and the amount of safety features in the standard equipment and you can see very easily why they cost what they do. A lot of the government mandate.
Lucked into a used 2018 Silverado basic package long bed with 8k miles a couple years back. I was skeptical, but I drove it and it seemed fine. Still going strong. I like it more and more, each time I drive it. Zero problems.
@@paulcondie2520 Just went over 33k miles. Not a single issue. Nothing replaced except oil and filters. No squeaks, no rattles, AC is awesome. My Honda Rubicon fits perfectly with the tailgate up. Getting 22 MPG average. I am VERY happy with this truck.
@@jameshanna8762 awesome to hear! I recently bought a 2017 Chevy Silverado with 46,000 miles. I deleted the AFM and installed a lower temp transmission thermostat. Changed all fluids front to rear and since I live in Pa I fluid filmed the underneath, salt in winter months. Super thanks for the reply! I hope no issues with mine for a long while
Much better! I get the feeling there's gonna be an emergency redesign coming to the new one and especially HD version once they see sales tank. I'm die-hard Chevy, and I wouldn't even consider a new one. They really should fire the people in charge of GMs designs, marketing, and whomever is responsible for not allowing engine options without all the $70,000 fru-fru option crap! My buying used (like 2002-06 HD/best years for value and quality) certainly isn't helping GMs cause.
I test drove the 18 and 19 chevy Silverado. I really liked both. I bought the 18 because of the looks, hood, and the deal on the 18. My best friend actually bought the 19 that I test drove and he now wished he bought an 18. He paid 12.2k more for his 19.
We picked up pretty much identical spec 18 z71 this fall for about 14k off retail. Such a good value and preferred it over the new truck. The ‘19 LD versions are a good value in the new truck market too
Excellent choice! I also bought a Silverado Z71 in August. Mine is a 2017. It had 27,000 miles on it when I bought it. Same paint scheme as his, only mine is Red Hot. I also added the black bowties, and the roll-up tonneau cover. Absolutely love the truck, and this is coming from someone who's owned nothing but Fords for the last 20 years.
Love the handsome exterior on the ‘16-‘18 Chevy’s so much more than the 19’s which almost seem less aggressive with the softer lines and door-mounted mirrors. While it would be nice to have rear AC on my ‘18 LTZ, there wasn’t enough wow-factor to make me bite on a ‘19 especially when I got a 6.2L ‘18 for about 10k less! Great video as always tho, thanks!
I did the exact same thing but it was because the Trailboss didn’t have the 6.2. I got a LTZ Midnight from Martin Chevy East of Huntsville. Love the truck and glad I got the 18, saved $15k off list too. Edit: averaging 19mpg see up to 21-22 on Highway no valence no level kit yet. Also very smooth 8 SPD and no issue with AFM.
Whoa! Dude, that Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) problem you mention is probably not what is happening. What you might be experiencing is just the torque converter auto lock-up cycling in and out when you accelerate at highway speeds, which is what it is supposed to do. The RPM naturally goes up slightly, which is the whole point. Active fuel management has nothing to do with RPM going up or down. I have this same engine in my 2017 Suburban and the cylinder deactivation is totally 100% seamless and absolutely undetectable unless I have the V4-V8 indicator light on which tells you what the engine is doing (I have it off almost always). Other than that you bought an excellent truck and that engine is amazing -- it will serve you well for a long time.
This is another reason why i think everyone loves TFLtruck... you guys cover everything and will talk to real owners about their trucks!!!! Wish i could've stopped by at some point and let everyone know how this amazing 2015 Ram 2500 Megacab is doing. I've done several winter trips out west. They usually are 5,000+ mile treks in all kinds of nasty cold weather. Latest one was from Chicago, IL. down to Waco, Texas, then to San Diego, CA. Then went upto Las Vegas, Moab, Utah and ofcourse thru the mtns in Colorado, and straight back to Chicago in about a weeks time. A Cummins diesel engine and that Megacab are the best thing ever for road trips like this. My truck looks the same, have the entire bed nearly full of luggage, parts, drinks/food, camping gear, firewood, etc....
I bought the 2018 in December and got the LTZ with the 5.3. I can get up to 20 MPG on the highway which is inline the older 5.3 trucks I have owned. I too do not care for the AFM feature. I really like this truck. Good video Thanks.
Dude I was watching the owner's channel yesterday talking about why he likes his truck and now he's on this channel talking about his truck😂 man this man must love his truck
Clint Mullins and you get boned on trade ins so you could say he paid more like 37.5-40 depending on how much the dealer raped on trade in price compared with what he could’ve sold it for privately
When I bought my 2016 LT brand new with 9 miles on the clock, they wanted $45K. After taxes and tags with NO trade, I got it down to $32K signed and sealed out the door. This guy did a good job with getting the price down. As I've said many, many times before: anyone who pays full price for any vehicle didn't do their homework. The markup on vehicles, especially trucks, is outrageous. So this owner did a hell of a job for a Texas Edition.
I bought this truck in a 4x4 Z71 crew cab REGULAR 6.5' box. Added the rear air bags for leveling while loaded. Mine is set up for towing my 29' 5th wheel camper toy hauler with a nice slider hitch. Pulls great up and down the mountains in the SW. I love it.
Lifters collapse all the time and when I buy a v8 I want a real v8 not one that switches 4 cylinders all the time. Will never buy one again. I had alot of electrical problems with my last Chevy.
When I read the title I thought I was gonna see a classic body style when they said old. Some how 2018 doesn’t seem old however I’m glad he loves his truck and I share a lot of the same interest when looking for a truck.
I have 2017 Silverado and I just had to put new tires. I put the same size, but I put the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W. I love them and it changed the look of the truck.
I own this exact truck (+leather) and I agree with everything this guy is saying. It's actually quite funny because I live in Dallas too and have done the same mods. I did the 2.5" leveling kit and the truck looks so much better.
Still rocking my 2013 1500 crew cab Silverado . The last year of that body style. 7 years later still loving it and it’s paid for. The 2019 lines in the fenders and the doors is repulsive. The 2018 is a thing of beauty. Don’t mess with the classic designs of 2007 to 2018.
Great video! I just bought a used 2012 Silverado 1500 4WD Crew Cab LT Z71 with only 52,000 miles on it. Very happy with my purchase to tow our small RV.
I have a 2016 I bought brand new with 9 miles on it. I had it tuned to delete the AFM immediately after hearing the horror stories of broken lifters and oil consumption (this was when I had about 5,000 miles on the truck). After 42,000 trouble-free miles with the tune, I have no issues. I get 17mpg combined between highway and city driving. What drove me nuts was when the AFM started kicking in WHILE TOWING, and was making the rear-end cluck going between V4 and V8 (and I tow quite a bit). With the tune, I have no more issues with the clunking. Not to mention, the tune really woke up the power of the 5.3L. And no, I don't care about voiding the warranty. I do all the work myself on my vehicles (which I love to do). So this was an easy choice for me.
s_reilly You’ll get issues eventually, it happened to my 07 vortecMax after 3years and the dealership never found the issue I ended up changing camshaft and all lifters , tune and it worked great and still working great
@@reyperez3424 My hopes are that I tuned it out early enough in the truck's life that no issues will arise. However, I am prepared to swap out the cam and lifters if need be. We shall see! Appreciate the heads up!
@Chris Jacobs Yeah...no. My '03 was fine and I sold that with 300,000 miles. I know someone with a 2011 Silverado without AFM with 291,000 miles - no issues. And I know someone with a 2009 Sierra WITH AFM with 175,000 miles - no issues. Then again, myself and the owners of the other trucks religiously maintain our vehicles - so that may have something to do with it.
I have had tons of 5.3 and 6.0litres over the years never had engine trouble just t cases and trannys if you tune it dont touch the tranny settings my 05 6.0litre would shift out of first a 55mph blew a brand new tranny in a year but it hauled ass lol. I have a 07 8.1litre tow rig and never had any problems it has 300thou miles still purrs.
I have done the very same thing. Bought my 2018 Silverado LT Z71 in the end of October. Honestly I was waiting for the 2019s to drop in so I can get a good deal on the 2018, and I did. Got mine for 45k Canadian, which is some 34k US. Now I have brand new, proven truck with full warranty for the price of used truck. Love my truck!
I love hearing people complain about AFM ... I have the 5.3 w/eAssist, so 8spd transmission, and I NEVER feel the engine switching from V4 to V8. I'll purposely drive on the highway with the DIC on the fuel mileage screen so I can actually try to detect a shimmy or spike in RPM when it switches. It's flawless. Why would you not want your V8 to try and save on gas when it can? I find mine drives mostly in V4 on the highway because of the eAssist - the battery prolongs the V4 operation. Same feelings towards the Auto/Stop function. I'm super impressed at how smooth it is on the Silverado given how big the motor is. I rent a lot of cars for work and can tell you Jeep's Auto/Start tech is awful, so clumsy. My Silverado's Auto/Stop is even smoother than my Buick's with a 2.0 turbo.
Using 93 octane greatly improves the afm 8 to 4 cylinder transition. Takes about 2 fuel cycles for computer to get used to it. Been doing this for last 10k miles on my 18 GMC Sierra. Big difference.
I bought me the 2019 chevy Silverado Legacy LD 1500 5.3 6 speed and love it did a few searchers and they said the 8 speed transmission came out bad on these.
I have a 2007 Silverado 1500 NBS and I am getting ready to buy a 2019 Colorado ZR2. I have had no issues with the 07, but decided to downsize a bit. I have never had a 4 wheel drive truck, so I thought now would be a good time to make the jump to off roading. I have a pop up camper to tow which weighs about 4500lbs, hopefully it will not be too much for the ZR2. TFLtruck is my go to for truck advice. I love all the truckcentric reviews, and they are the reason I decided to go for the ZR2. I paid $26,000.00 for my 07 and expect to pay around $40,000.00 for the ZR2, but that is cheaper then a new Silverado spec'd out with 4wd. Love the videos guys, keep doing what you do best! How can I find all your videos on the ZR2?
Great video Andre and everyone at TFL. I watch your videos all the time. I bought my last truck based on the info you provided from the Ike Gauntlet and trailering MPG run for the "Big 3" 3/4 ton gas trucks. I love my F-250 but may trade it when I see your results on the 2020 models and the new 7.3l! Thanks for this segment. It's another piece of the puzzle talking to owners after using the trucks and getting their opinions on their purchases.
When I used to see the 16-18 Silverados I thought man why did they change it why not just keep 14-15 grill and used to think 16-18 was uuugly BUT THEN I saw the 19 and not I think the 16-18 is so much better
Chris Jacobs the 18 looks like a Prius with the headlights folding around the 14 looks like square like a Truck SHOULD look The f350 “18 THEM LOOK GOOD square and all that but I guess we’re not talkin ferd 2 dislikes buddy lol
But can we all agree ram and Chevy 19 are soo bad with the small thin little girly headlights but the hd 14-18 silverados are the dope ones and it’s the last year of a good lookin truck
The 19s are starting to grow on me, particularly the LT Trailboss and High Country trim. I didn't like it at all when it first came out, which is why I jumped on a deal for a 2018 Silverado at my local dealer. I do agree with you though, I think the 2014-2018 will age very well ... great balance of sporty and aggressive if you ask me.
Got the same truck and love it! Before I had 100 miles on it I had to buy the Range AFM delete chip, noticed the same thing with the rpms fluttering shortly after leaving the dealership because of the cyl deactivation. Not to mention reading horror stories on various forums with peoples motors going before 100k. No problems at all after the AFM delete! Love it!
did the same, just bought an ‘18 sierra. they look better than the 2019, no plastichrome dash knobs, no ugly dash and a couple steps up in trim level for less money with the clear out deals. disable the afm... seems most do
That's an opinion. 2019 and forward are very modern and aggressive. Nicer for other people including me. I can see this model looking dated in the near future much like the early and late 2000s models do now. That said, the 2018 z71 midnight edition with running boards looks like a beast
@@Lalo3g1 the main problem with the 2019+ is the back end the taillights are uglier the tailgate is uglier and the bumper with the oversized corner steps is the worst part. ive seen some 2019s that are color matched that look decent but usually only the trail boss looks decent imo.
Once you delete the AFM you’ll get much better gas mileage. I have a 03 Tahoe Iron block 5.3 L, it gets 19 to 20 miles a gallon with low RPMs. I also have an 08 Chevy avalanche 5.3 aluminum block with AFM, it’s always under 15 miles a gallon. It’s generally 2000 RPMs to 2700 rpm’s on the highway. I’m no expert, but the way I look at it when it runs on four cylinders which it does most of the time, I think about four cylinders trying to pull the weight of a half ton truck or more. They just work a lot harder at higher rpm’s, that being said it’s bringing down the gas mileage. I’ve seen guys with newer models like this one in the video, that have the AFM delete and the gas mileage changed tremendously. Great video though I love that body style! Also The 5.3 L is a great motor, it was just a lot better before the AFM, that’s just my opinion.
What the guest said towards the end stands true. You all do such a great job of explaining the vehicles that it helps the buyer have insight when purchasing a new or used vehicle. I have one suggestion, perhaps down the road expand your TFL line to include Cars and SUVs? The fast lane perhaps can also be implemented into that segment and allow you to look towards that market. Just a thought.
You are so correct. The old “vortec” 5.3 was an absolute beast. I had an 02 with it and never any problems from 0-150k miles when i let it go. Active or Dynamic fuel management or whatever you wanna call it, sucks a big one.
D H ive got almost 120k miles on my 15 yukon with the afm. I dont like it too much because it switches in and out when i dont want it to. But after the lease is over im considering to delete it. How much would it cost?
@@shmave20 RANGE AFM delete. I would suggest buying it from the Range website that way you're sure to get the newest edition. I've been using one for a year. Works perfect.
Nice interview. He did his home work and knew what he wanted. Didn’t let the sales person try to sway him on what he wanted. I am sure he also knew the fair market value of his old truck.
Of course it affects the aero! I'm a fan of capability (like off roading) and need fuel efficiency, so I wish GM could spend a couple dollars on making the lower valence spoiler hinged (like my C5 Corvette) as they really do help the aero, but hurt the approach angle and clearance when down. I modify aero on vehicles, and it's not complicated to to this. You have the best of both worlds when this is able to be folded up and down. (Kind of like grill shutters that are capable of opening and closing). GM can't spare an extra $5 on this, as they're only profiting $20G on their $70k trucks!
I had a leveled F-150 and it still had a valance but I literally averaged 14 mpg with the 3.5 EcoBoost. The leveling (and bigger tires) definitely and obviously changed a lot. My brother had the exact same truck only stock and would easily get 18-20 mpg.
I'm a MTB guy too and watch TFL, and I need to go drive every truck before my next buy! After a lot of research GM is low on the list for me, used or new. Thanks for the feed back glad you like your GM.
I bought a ‘18 Silverado after I saw the new ’19. I wasn’t on the market but I felt the ‘19 was so unappealing that I decided to get a new truck while a could get one I could stand looking at.
Range AFM Disable ODB2 Device. Works great! I plug it in around town to keep in V8. Unplug on long trips to use V4. Does not reprogram computer so no warranty problems.
For those of you who love this body style but want a new truck you can get a 19 I know the trim is called LD. I haven't seen any called "classic" like RAM is doing with there trucks.
You can't if you want a Crew Cab, the LD is Double Cab only. There are still quite a few brand new 2018s out there if you want them. Contrary to what was said in the video, they continued building this body style Crew Cab alongside the new ones until November.
I’m with you my Brother I have a 2016 Chevy Silverado and I love it, the sixteens thru eighteens(I think my opinion) have a better body style than the nineteen and twenties they went square like ford and took the bow tie off the tailgate, love the inside though
Great video of the Silverado, I have that same truck, it's Awesome, I put the truck in tow mode alot in the city and it elimanates the shifting he was talking about, can also do it on the highway and still get good gas mileage, around 19.3/23.2 that's city and highway with a 70 mph speed limit, if you were to do 60 mph on highway it gets about 24.7, not bad and that's pulling a trailer with 2 ATV on the back, in the city it takes the quick shifting out right away from light to light, that's nice
I just traded for a 2018 LTZ with 9K miles certified from a local dealer. Truck listed for $54,500 and they had it listed at $39,900. NADA retail is $42,000. I traded for $35K out the door taxes and all. I had an 07 2500HD with a salvage title so I did OK. I got a 4 year 48K bumper to bumper and 6 year 100K power train warranty. I did OK IMHO. I've never noticed the AFM on mine thus far. Mine has heated and cooled seats. Really nice feature.
$50k sticker and cloth seats, that price is just too high! No thank you, I’ll keep my 88 chevy c1500 with 186k and my 76 f150 with 167k miles for the foreseeable future
Exactly! I bought a 2020 Corolla xle for 26k and it has leather seats, navigation, sun roof, led, lane assist, blind spot, seat warmers, etc, and its nearly half the sticker price! But I guess if you want a pickup truck your gonna pay 80 grand if you want fancy features included. Besides! Your truck was built more solid than these modern ones, shes a keeper, take care of it, and she will last you another 186k.
My 99 Sierra has 127k and running strong. Sometimes I think about a new one but really hate payments. Ugh. I know I can still go years not counting my 06 Civic is mostly my daily driver.
This was a great one! The owner is very knowledgeable and knew what he wanted! I would like to see tfl compare the ride quality of some of the vehicles like the Nissan Titan PRO4X, AT4 etc...I would like to know how the owners think some of their vehicles ride after they've had some miles put on them.
Range technology makes an obd2 afm disabler for GM trucks. Just plug it in the obd2 port and it's v8 mode full time. Supposedly warranty safe once its removed.
Love these types of videos showing people the good and bad of what other peoples experiences were. Although I'm personally a dodge guy and I'm waiting for that video but the 3 videos you have made to date were very informative and interesting. Keep doing what you're doing and I'll keep watching.
If I bought a silverado I'd get a 2018.. I'd get a High Country Silverado with the brown interior, Deep ocean blue color, with the Cenntenial package. And not to forget the 6.2 V8 😉
The Centennial package is not available with the High Country, or in the Deep Ocean Blue color, its only available in LTZ trim in Steel Blue Metallic, fortunately you can get the 6.2 in it!
@@MS3DALE interesting. I thought that the centennial package availabe in the deep ocean blue (I might have got the color names mixed up lol), and the High Country Trim. Luckily it is still available with the 6.2. Either way it still is my favorite gen Silverado!
Good luck with it. My last 2 gm trucks didn’t make it to 150k without having to put 6k into them to get them there. I traded my 2002 z71 for a 2019 Tundra. It is nice to be back in a Toyota. 👍
i bought the Range afm disabler. My truck is just like that one but i have leather. I bought my truck brand new and today i only have 15,200 miles. Love the truck.
The new 2019 Silverado is indeed a weird-looking thing. Though you can buy one for around 36K now after all the manufacturer rebates, I'm still seriously considering previous gen.
I really like the rims on this pickup. So much so, that I bought an identical used set from this model year Silverado for my 2006 Silverado 1500. They look awesome on it as well!
I bought an 18 Silverado Z71 LT, almost identical to the one featured in this video, last year due to price, roughly 15k off MSRP before trade. I wish I would've gone with a Ford after owning this truck for 10 months and 14500 miles. I, too, have the issue where AFM causes drivability concerns. At times it seems the transmission is slipping when using cruise control, turns out it is the AFM. The seats are relatively comfortable, but, being a larger guy, the seat trim creaks/squeaks when getting in and out of the truck. If you look at the cushion, it goes below the trim towards the rear of the seat bottom. MPG has not been what I was expecting during my time owning this truck. Best tank I have had, during break in, was 21.2 mpg. Combined I am averaging right around 14.5 up to 15.5. Seems to not matter how I accelerate, it is always in this range. Overall it is a good truck, but minor things are making me consider switching while I have a large amount of equity in the truck.
If you live in a climate that sees freezing temperatures look into the f150 door latches freezing. They all have this issue, and so far do not have a working repair.
@@andrewromain7756 I have seen that, but doesn't scare me away from them. I have had 2 different F150s and 2 others in the family. They have their quirks, like everything else, but overall seem to be of nicer build quality. Especially like the fact their steering wheels are even in distance from the driver unlike the Silverados
@@castillon0 I'm not sure what you mean about the steering wheel not being an even distance, but I'll check that out next time I'm in a f150. I agree every vehicle has its quirks. My Silverado isn't perfect, but I had realistic expectations when I got it, and I'm happy with my choice.
@@andrewromain7756 Roman on TFL mentions it in many Silverado reviews that the steering wheel is at an angle. The F150 is straight at the driver. If you put your right hand on 3 and your left on 9, you will notice 9 is much further away than 3 on the wheel.
Dude! while cruising at higway, pres de + buton at the shift lever and set the highest gear of the truck, that will disable the afm mode; working only in v8 mode. When manual shifting v4 mode is disabled. I understand you very well. A friend of my has a suburban with the 5.3 6 speed and afm, and is really annoying at highway: lack of power at v4 and relatively hard at enabling v8. So I drive at hygway in manual mode and no more V4. Hope it help you!
My dad got his super cheap when the next model came out. When new versions of these trucks come out, Chevy starts giving them away lol. He got nearly $30k off the original sticker price. Big, lifted, pearl Z71 V8. He gets compliments all the time.
I’ve heard from several sources that they’ve pretty much solved the problems with this now. I’m not taking chances with mine, for most of my miles, I manually select 5th gear which shuts off AFM. For highway miles I go ahead and put it in “D” which allows AFM. So far, so good.
Great truck! Mine is almost identical, but the midnight edition and leather. Leveled and all, it came with stock size duratracs but I would like to go up one size eventually. Got a good deal also and I’m glad I didn’t wait for the 19”.
Hysterical, I did the same exact thing when I picked up my 2018 Texas Edition Silverado. LT Z71 Extended cab though in Silver. Did a level, running 275 tires, back rack, and tonneau cover.
What size level did you do, and are you having any rubbing with the larger tires? I am assuming they are 275/70R18? I think the larger tires will look better, but I am concerned about rubbing.
@@andymorton1737 Exactly. I put on Cooper AT3's 275 70R18. I also have a rough country leveling kit which is about 1.5 to 2 inches and have NO rubbing at all. Let me see if I can find a picture.
Just a suggestion, and maybe the owner didn't mind... but maybe there should be a temporary TFL sign over the license plate. Nice rig and I really like the bed cover.
Crazy. Same scenario for me too for this guy. Got mine in Dallas too in May of this year. Got mine for $30,500 out the door. Such a good deal compared to my home town.

To compare the 7.3 international TD made (275hp/525ft/lb)
01 F 350 could hitch 13.9klb and 5th wheel 14.2k. 2019 150 can hitch 13.2k

its a truck tho. if your buying a truck for fuel economy you probably shouldn’t buy a truck. after adding the level on my 14 the fuel economy difference was barely noticeable
It makes a difference but I don't think it's that much

31k is cheap . New ones are ridiculous
Truth!
Bought mine New also with over 13k in discounts/rebates... Better deal than a used one 3yrs old with miles on
At fast highway speeds it makes a noticeable difference.
Bryant Roscoe Are used to think the same way, it cost too much. But you take a 1971 Chevy C 10 and compare it to this truck and the amount of safety features in the standard equipment and you can see very easily why they cost what they do. A lot of the government mandate.
I agree with this guy... you Gentlemen at TFL keep us well informed and it helps ALLOT!
Lucked into a used 2018 Silverado basic package long bed with 8k miles a couple years back. I was skeptical, but I drove it and it seemed fine. Still going strong. I like it more and more, each time I drive it. Zero problems.

@@jameshanna8762 awesome to hear! I recently bought a 2017 Chevy Silverado with 46,000 miles. I deleted the AFM and installed a lower temp transmission thermostat. @@PACKERMAN2077 the headlight/grill combo on the 14/15s looks much better than this one
I like the 2018 Silverado much better, if I was in the market for a Silverado I would go with the18 as well.
The ‘19 LD versions are a good value in the new truck market too
jester couldn’t agree more, the 2018 is way better looking than the 19,
I just got a new 2018 as well.

Great real world down-to-earth review!
Excellent choice! I also bought a Silverado Z71 in August. Mine is a 2017. It had 27,000 miles on it when I bought it. Same paint scheme as his, only mine is Red Hot. I also added the black bowties, and the roll-up tonneau cover. Absolutely love the truck, and this is coming from someone who's owned nothing but Fords for the last 20 years.
are you still liking this truck? any problems?
Love the handsome exterior on the ‘16-‘18 Chevy’s so much more than the 19’s which almost seem less aggressive with the softer lines and door-mounted mirrors. While it would be nice to have rear AC on my ‘18 LTZ, there wasn’t enough wow-factor to make me bite on a ‘19 especially when I got a 6.2L ‘18 for about 10k less! Great video as always tho, thanks!
I love my 17 Silverado. Was looking at ford too but went with the Chevy instead. Put the leveling kit on it, exhaust anddisabled the afm
I can get up to 20 MPG on the highway which is inline
the older 5.3 trucks I have owned. I too do not care for the AFM feature. I really like this truck. Good video Thanks.
Dude I was watching the owner's channel yesterday talking about why he likes his truck and now he's on this channel talking about his truck😂 man this man must love his truck
Out the door for 31,000.That is a deal...
That includes a $4k trade. So 35k is what he paid
I picked mine up in late Dec. 2018 LT Z71 Texas Edition, $16,500 off sticker. I love mine so far!

Fantastic video! You guys do work hard and it's nice seeing one of us give the ins and outs on a particular truck that you've reviewed.

You’ll get issues eventually, it happened to my 07 vortecMax after 3years and the dealership never found the issue
I ended up changing camshaft and all lifters , tune and it worked great and still working great
@@reyperez3424 My hopes are that I tuned it out early enough in the truck's life that no issues will arise.

I love my 2019 Trail Boss, but I will say that the interior of my 2016 felt A LOT more solid and better built.
Awesome video! Hope the guy is still enjoying this truck. I love my 14 Silverado myself.
Still enjoying it with 49,000 miles on it now.
Because "goddamn tree hugging hippies trying to save me money!!" /Sarcasm
Using 93 octane greatly improves the afm 8 to 4 cylinder transition. Takes about 2 fuel cycles for computer to get used to it. Been doing this for last 10k miles on my 18 GMC Sierra. Big difference.
I love my 2018 gmc sierra... cant wait till I can modify it
I bought me the 2019 chevy Silverado Legacy LD 1500 5.3 6 speed and love it did a few searchers and they said the 8 speed transmission came out bad on these.

Wow, I love the AFM on my 2018. I can't tell without looking at the display. The truck gets awesome gas mileage too -way better than my previous Ram.
Good choice. The new 2019 Silverado front end is hideous.
Love it!
I'm looking to get one myself, great video. 👍👍
I love my 18 silverado! I drove all the full size trucks before I bought one and the 5.3 with 6spd auto is a bullet proof combo.
I like this style a lot better than the 2019.
did the same, just bought an ‘18 sierra. they look better than the 2019, no plastichrome dash knobs, no ugly dash and a couple steps up in trim level for less money with the clear out deals. disable the afm... seems most do
‘14-‘18 silverado is much nicer looking especially lifted
That's an opinion. 2019 and forward are very modern and aggressive. Nicer for other people including me. I can see this model looking dated in the near future much like the early and late 2000s models do now. That said, the 2018 z71 midnight edition with running boards looks like a beast
@@Lalo3g1 the main problem with the 2019+ is the back end the taillights are uglier the tailgate is uglier and the bumper with the oversized corner steps is the worst part.
ive seen some 2019s that are color matched that look decent but usually only the trail boss looks decent imo.
Or until it rusts out like a FIAT RAM no.1 for that feature
Brad Zimmerman lol 😂 being realistic
Wow a 5.3 in a TFL video. Sweet.
This 5.3 is not the same 5.3 you had in your 2000. Trust me, the older 5.3 is better.
AFM blows. disable it now and save your lifters.
I disabled it along with the torque management a month into ownership and never looked back.
What programmers will let you delete this I hate it
@@shmave20 RANGE AFM delete. I would suggest buying it from the Range website that way you're sure to get the newest edition.

Nice interview. He did his home work and knew what he wanted. Didn’t let the sales person try to sway him on what he wanted. I am sure he also knew the fair market value of his old truck.
Removing that front lower valence had an impact on his gas mileage I bet.
Brad Diekow I would agree, and especially on this trip as we were seeing 20-50 mph winds for nearly the entire 800 miles.
Well he had to remove it because in almost every drive way you go to it almost drag or hit the ground
@@coolsquad7428 I have never scraped that lower valence and I used the truck hunting.

in my 2019 I cant even tell when it cuts cylinders and that 8 speed is smooth

Watching this video makes me 100% confident I made the right choice getting a 2018.
I love my 2018 1500 Silverado, it's one of the last Chevy truck, the 2019 looks like a Tundra with a short hood, No More Chevy Trucks, How Sad...
The AFM is much more noticeable when running aftermarket duals. Running Gibson on mine
J Fike I bought a range module for my 09 6.0L Sierra and I have V8 all the time no lost in gas mileage.

Range technology makes an obd2 afm disabler for GM trucks. Just plug it in the obd2 port and it's v8 mode full time. Supposedly warranty safe once its removed.

Check out this tune a guy is running. ruclips.net/video/x3B3oy_-DNM/видео.html
Amazing how these expensive beast of vehicles die as soon as one component, on one of the numerous PCB's corrodes.
Very great video this man was taking pride when he bought one of the last 2018/19 Silverado model.
You couldn’t buy that truck used with 25,000 miles on it for $31K. This guy got an amazing deal from that dealership.
My dad got his super cheap when the next model came out. When new versions of these trucks come out, Chevy starts giving them away lol. He got nearly $30k off the original sticker price. Big, lifted, pearl Z71 V8. He gets compliments all the time.
People are mad at GM right now so there are a lot of deals right now. Also RAM prices get competitive at the end of the year.
Smh forget that car note, thats crazy smh amazing smh lol
If you don’t like the AFM, pick up the AFM Disabler by range technology. Doesn’t disable your warranty and prevents you from having any lifter issues.
He’s gonna dislike the AFM even more when it starts dropping lifters.
exactly
I’ve heard from several sources that they’ve pretty much solved the problems with this now. I’m not taking chances with mine, for most of my miles, I manually select 5th gear which shuts off AFM. For highway miles I go ahead and put it in “D” which allows AFM. So far, so good.
Owned three of them, never had an issue.
S Hyman not yet
Range afm delete solves this stupid GM invention
Great truck! Mine is almost identical, but the midnight edition and leather. Leveled and all, it came with stock size duratracs but I would like to go up one size eventually. Got a good deal also and I’m glad I didn’t wait for the 19”.
I could buy a house in SC for $31,000
Hysterical, I did the same exact thing when I picked up my 2018 Texas Edition Silverado.
50k and no leather? No wonder they have those high discounts.
Just a suggestion, and maybe the owner didn't mind... but maybe there should be a temporary TFL sign over the license plate. Nice rig and I really like the bed cover.
2014-18 big GM trucks are significantly better looking IMHO vs the 2019+ models.
Crazy. Same scenario for me too for this guy. Got mine in Dallas too in May of this year. Got mine for $30,500 out the door. Such a good deal compared to my home town.
Man isn't happy with fuel economy, but made several modifications that hurt fuel economy. Reep what you sow.
I towed 6400 lbs. Trailer from Mississippi to California .avg.12 mpg not bad.
Um...ok
