This is located in Puerto Plata in the municipality of Imbert. In other words, Imbert, Puerto Plata which is about 15 minutes from the city of Puerto Plata. These waterfalls were the best kept secret until two-three years ago when the tourist caught up to it. The reason why most people didn't know about this place was because it was located somewhat deep in virgin rain forest and a bit difficult to get too(not accessible to vehicle, cross a river and walk a trail for about 20 mins). The government built a bridge and conditioned the trail so now it is accessible to the masses. Is it dangerous you ask? yes, if you don't take the proper precautions like wearing a helmet, life vest and water shoes it can be dangerous; you are walking on wet surfaces most of the time. This is one of the reasons why Puerto Plata is the REAL tourist destination of DR, Punta Cana and the East Coast are mainly a marketing success story, but don't have the diversity that Puerto Plata has to offer; beach, river, mountain, watersports all within a 10-15 drive. 27 charcos de damajagua
I have been there 4 times and still love. It's just wonderful, a natural wonder that has been there for millions of years. You have to be in good shape to walk up to the fist waterfall and then coming down all the river bed to find the rest of the waterfalls. Need good water shoes. Rocks are tough.
went to Dominican a year ago for 3 weeks to do charity work, we were hoping to get a day off to do this but we got ill, we are returning in February for a month and we will do it then, so excited to see what its like!!
the highest waterfall is 30ish feet and theres paths to walk down any of the falls if you dont want to jump. Life jackets and helmets keep everyone safe.
