It really is in my personal opinion the best presentation for Large mouth bass, Hybrid bass, Walleye. Anything pretty much anything that feeds and fresh water shad. It’s looks so good in the water I’ve caught many fish when they aren’t biting on anything.
Wanna blow your mind? Rig the fluke SIDEWAYS! The bait will actually glide on it's side farther than rigging the conventional way and look like a dying bait fish. Also don't throw away your torn up flukes till you try this first! Rig your torn up baits WACKY style with a small circle hook and short twitch it then let it die... You can thank me later 😅
@@brianrodgers409 take a lighter to your torn baits till the start to melt then pinch them with needle nose pliers or a glove to mend the tare. The will work on most but not all soft plastic baits.
That's cool ah I thought I was the only one to ever try this it's definitely not something I do a lot but I was throwing a fluke Texas rigged and my brother was throwing a wacky rig with senkos and I broke off my last hook so I tied a wacky hook on and put a fluke on it just to see if it would work and sure enough I ended up catching 4 bass that way to end my day off it was cool ah and they were samckin it hard ah for some reason
I read this about 10min. from launching the kayak. So I tried it.... and buddy you're right. So thanks right now! Gotta go try this action out so I'm gone. Try it out y'all what that fluke does is pretty cool and unpredictable. It looks realistic as can be.
depending the depth your going to run the fluke, a clear or same colored bead is a must? a bead has to be bigger then the knot size to slide over the knot most of the time its a size12, 0r 14 size bead, this make bubbles in front of the fluke to shows its wounded or dying for easy free food for the bass. to note on the front and back part of the beqad i chamfer the hole opening to channel in water and make double the bubbles as needed.
So true! If you hook it straight, it has the best action of any lure out there but if you hook it crooked it just spins, twists up your line and looks dumb. 😄
I never leave the eye exposed where I live and fish is to much grass it tends to catch on the grass more and takes the action away from the bait, so I rig it where it sits just above the knot completely weedless, and also when the fluke gets worn out, you can rig it sideways and get even crazier action and the bait last longer 👍
I find the best way to rig a fluke or senko is to rig it straight sure, but only lightly skin hook it by... just ....burying the barb in the belly. The hook pops out on the strike and the fish basically hooks itself - the lure also lasts longer. Thanks for sharing
I really swear by ewg hooks on weightless flukes, and I use heavy duty/super line hooks most of the time. The extra “keel weight” keeps the fluke from wanting to roll over when worked aggressively.
Can't say I've ever tried keeping the hook eye out (from being burried) in the fluke - might have to give it a whirl - a time and a place for everything I typically always use a 3/0 gamagatsu if i want the zoom fluke to stall/suspend/twitch in place & for largemouth thanks to a guide in Texas, keep the staight hook (technically offset like in the video) burried (so much more versatile with any kind lf weeds/sticks/cover)
I like going a bit deeper so i can bury my knot in the fluke head. But center is important regardless, especially runniny flouro, mono, or poly. Itll line twist if not rig centered
I rig mine upside down when fishing the Flint River in Georgia for Shoal Bass. Time and time again, had them hit it upside down but not right side up. Thought it was silly at first, but been doing it for years now.
Bullet weight ruins the fluke action ime. I've used a weighted hook w success before though. I wanna try the nail weight as I recently heard/seen how to do that but I need to order some
I catch a lot more small mouth and black bass by hooking my fluke through the side and then skin hook in it back the fluke is always straight as a string
I've tried both ways on my donkey rig and my experience is better when flukes stay mid column or bottom. I've had them come up like feeding baitfish and nathan.
4/0 offset hook? I did fish that today on Nolin River Lake and caught two big ones. 4/0 gamakastu ewg didnt work well after catching two. I going to try this tip
Or use better flukes. Use the 6th sense flush---best fluke ive ever used (im not affiliated or sponsored by them) but it has a split fin on top where the hook tip rests, split down underside to go in, and side fins and a sideways fin on tail. The flush does something no other fluke does except maybe the dolive fluke style bait--- that is, as it falls, it stays perfectly horizontal, and it shimmys just like a senko does. So it can be fished where u just let it fall and shimmy, or you can fish it like a soft jerkbait, and when you pause between jerks, it shimmys.
I litterally fish this same bait for so many years. Just caught a 25 inch brown trout in a shit creek with a identical white one. I used to rig mine the same way but eventually switched to the screw in hooks a few years back. Also recently started fishing them deep with weighted hooks and have had success.
You ever fish a drop shot rig with a fluke? Tie your hook onto your like but leave an 18+ inch tag line. Pinch two to 3 small split shot to the bottom of the tag line and rig the fluke as normal or on it’s side. Fishing it this way keeps the bait within striking distance off the bottom . And most times if the weights get hung they just pull off the line and you get to keep your rig.
I drop the eye right bellow the bait so the hook sits further back and ive had better luck. Its also more weedless and catches less debris from the topwater.

I thought that too but just depends on where you are fishing if you are in a lake that's getting fished a lot then yeah id rig it as perfect as you can but I've fished over 100 ponds in kansas and missouri and now I've realized it doesn't matter how ya rig something if you are fishing a pond they will take anything.
I like the traditional way, but I like the banjo style with the fluke also. And sometimes I just reel it in traditional style and tap my rod with my index finger at the same time.
Where was this video at 20 years ago when I was trying to figure this out.?? I would get SO Mad 🤬🤬🤬 rigging these things getting twisted line and cussing. Of course now after rigging thousands of these I can do it perfect where you get the dart left/right with every snap of the line.

This is great information. I always thought that the Texas rig had the hook come out then back in. Your set up looks so much better
You got me to fishing flukes with an offset round bend hook, instead of an EWG. Years ago watching your channel got me rigging them that way...
Love your choice of hook! Too many lost fish on a EWG hook
If you get a good hook set it doesn’t matter I’ve caught hundreds of fish on a ewg and barley lose any and I only lose them if I get a bad hook set
EWG is great for smallies in open water, for largemouth in cover the ways he's doing it is best (never tried the eye of the hook exposed though)

A fluke is very versatile in different ways of fishing it.
If you keep the eye of the hook out of the soft plastic, i use a loop knot for more action
A straight fluke is a happy fluke.
Exactly
Can't say I've ever tried keeping the hook eye out (from being burried) in the fluke - might have to give it a whirl - a time and a place for everything

What type of hook should you use?
It also helps to throw a bass assassin fluke. Zoom flukes are good for trailers and c rigs. Weightless, you can't beat the bass assassin!
Use the fluke upside down sometimes. Clear open water weightless on a 5/0 ewg. They smoke it.
I rig mine upside down when fishing the Flint River in Georgia for Shoal Bass. Time and time again, had them hit it upside down but not right side up. Thought it was silly at first, but been doing it for years now.
My problem is getting the hook straight down the middle. Guess practice makes perfect. Only used soft plastics a few times so far. Definitely like em
Do you throw it bare? Or a bullet or some weight? Can’t use anything to light where I’m at to much wind.
Drop shot if your fishing deep or use a nail weight in the body. But fishing shallow just the hook is all you need.
Bullet weight ruins the fluke action ime. I've used a weighted hook w success before though. I wanna try the nail weight as I recently heard/seen how to do that but I need to order some

I stuff the eye in the bait and it gives it's type of action that makes it pop out the water like a feeding bait fish.
I get a lot more bites when it's not popping out of the water.
@@Flukemaster I mainly do this at ponds.

@@nunyaBizznizfoo I do it when I'm fishing shallow banks.

Thank you! What size hook are you using?
I agree I want to know!
Twist locs work great!!
What size hook you have right there?
Can someone explain why having the eye out of the bait is better?

That and to give it a little more weight so I can work it faster without it coming to the surface.
Why keep the eye of the hook out of the bait?
Ok now what do I do about my small tag end grabbing all the grass cause I left the eye of the hook out ?

What does keeping the eye of the hook out of the fluke do? Does that effect the action somehow?
