Love the idea of the owner /screwlock rig!
Ive caught more fish on the Fluke that ANY artificial bait I ever used !
I've switched to the Owner screw lock hooks years ago! Also I've done very good with the weighted version when fish are more bottom oriented!
Awesome video!!! Very good tips on how to rig the fluke & fluke jr. Lesson well learned!!! Stay Safe & God Bless!!! 🤠👍
Great ideas. I’ll try the screw lock. I’ve also added a treble hook as a trailer that really helps on those short strike. Saw Ike share that a few years ago. Helps with getting it a tad deeper too.
i LOVE nose hooking the super fluke. So many fish caught on this bait!
Great tips! Never thought of doing that! Yay! Now, winter, go away.
I nose hook it or use a little flipping hook. Better action on smaller hooks huh.
@@matthewotis3594 Me likey!
@RogerFordTheSmilingBassHole no hook with a screwlock and a 1/8oz nail weight You will be amazed how effective it is for deep winter bass.
Thanks Nathan just picked up the Z-Man pearl colored 4 inch flukes which I have never fished before this video will help me out thanks bud 👍🏻
I use a 4/0 offset round bend hook instead of ewg and my hook ups went up alot.
Agreed
Same here
Great video on Fluke rigging. I use the Owner weighted twist lock or the Hoss Helix twist locks and it is FIRE for Saltwater inshore species. It just produces with almost any soft plastic in 2-6 feet of water.
Appreciate this! I’m definitely using twist locks now💯💯
I'm just now getting back into fishing after a decade off. I forgot so much since I was a kid. Thanks for the informative video!
Good luck!
Awesome tips here man, for real. I rarely come across actual improvements to what im already doing. A couple colors of salty super flukes and senko style stick baits with my favorite hook is literally all i need for bass fishing. But I have hundreds of dollars of tackle sitting in boxes. 😂
Thanks for the tips.
Thanks!
Flukes on a ball jig are my go to for early spring/late fall walleye. Sometimes I'll add a #8 treble for a stinger if I'm getting short strikes
Love It !! Screw lock a must !! Gr8t Stuff Nate
I use a pinch on or rubber core sinker to make weighted hook. And when nose hooking i use a #2 circle hook
I place little silicone stopper on my hook to ensure the bait stays where supposed to be
If you don't need weedless You can use a small inline circle hook and either just hook with eye in front and point coming out top about 1/4 in back or you can have the leader come out the top and stick hook into back a little down the fluke. Both of these will lead to many, many more bass (or snook etc) than any large hooks like shown.
Great video. Thank you. Very good.
What diameter lead wire is best to keep on hand?
Real good information 😊
The Banjo Minnow had this solved decade's ago.
Good video
Thanks
I often rig my flukes upside down and lightly texas right the hook in the cleavage & this puts the greatest mass of the plastic on the down side with much less twisting on the twitch ... No body else rigs it this way + the other preference is a swim bait style fluke with more action ... Magic
Awesome I’ll have to try it!
I fish the fluke in a deep lake in San Diego county with a 3/4 ounce strike king tungsten Texas rig weight. I call it the kid rig because I tie it up for young anglers.
That will definitely catch them but weightless is more versatile. Weightless you can fish the bottom, middle column, and even topwater.
Man I’ve prolly caught more bass then 60% of you all with a fluke rigged that way. I’ve won a tournament fishing solo with a fluke this way, and won big bass. This isn’t “wrong”
The title is clickbait. Unfortunately because of RUclips’s messed up algorithm, clickbait titles are almost required to get any views. That’s why a lot of RUclipsrs have to resort to that sort of thing
To be honest I don't like fishing Texas rig unless I have to, I'd rather fish a fluke with a jig head
@@HowdyItsMarc yeah it’s a totally different presentation tho. Rigging it weightless letting the bait glide slowly falling then twitching it gets bass pissed off. Especially sight fishing them. The fluke jig head works well too. We actually use that for black fin tunas here in the panhandle, just burn it on the surface when they’re feeding on bait they’ll nail it 👌
@@HowdyItsMarc I’ve also thrown the Texas rig with a small bullet led and a bobber stopper to peg it. Throw it in isolated grass just dead stick it, drag it a little. Good technique for Florida at least
@@Southern_Taurus_ sounds awesome, I've never fished on a boat since I'm mostly limited to bank fishing and the occasional pier fishing, I don't got a boat or anything like that. My personal favorite thing to throw is a white circle tail grub on a jig head, it catches me fish everywhere I go whether it be fresh or salt water. A close second would be fishing a craw on the bottom, helps when the bites are slim. I remember I went to the pier and everyone was looking at me sideways when they asked me what I was fishing with and I pulled up a 1 inch white circle tail grub on a jig head, I must have caught maybe 30 trout that day, sorry for that wall of text, I just enjoy talking to people that understand the hobby.
Hey brother what kind of sunglasses do you use
I throw flukes a lot and I tried the owner screw locks, mostly throw the screw locks on the 7" flukes because they seem to get ruined more on the EWG , on the 5 and 6" I still use the gammy #4 and #5 ewgs and don't have any hookup issues , I didn't get a good look but it appeared you are using the super line hooks, I personally don't like them and stick with the regular size , I know a lot of people like the super line size for extra weight but I go through so many more flukes using them
Awesome video
The lake I fish in San Diego county is 280’ deep, with many 30’ plus submerged trees
Drop shot the watermelon seed magnum fluke with the 1 ounce zappu pin drop
What size hook should I use for a magnum fluke?
I use 4/0 offset thin hook from Walmart brand and haven lose hardly any fish and it fall slower with more action!
Awesome!
Haymaker hook solves all gap problems.
I live near Lake Hartwell.
What's your favorite colors here?
How does your phoenix ride compared to your ranger
It's kinda a head scratcher cuz you want the widest gap you can get away with and also a decent amount of weight in the hook to keep the bait down a little better... but what about the line and rod power needed to effectively bury that big of a hook?? It has lead me to not throw it as much.
I don’t have much of an issue using standard gear to get a good hookset
The first hook you showed and the second are both extra wide gap (EWG) hooks (distance from point to shank). The Z-bend in the first hook is called a Offset Hook. So the first hook is an Offset EWG Hook.
If my hook gets depressed it will surely not want to hook up
Something I discovered,,, get some of those weighted swimbait hooks with an under spin and put a fluke on there. They literally hit it like they're trying to take your rod away from you!!!
You're welcome!
Do you have an example for the hook? Not sure what to look for
Belly weighted hooks.
It's too bad that the promised links are not there.
They are in the description of the video I put them there!
Senko over any other plastic
Can’t argue that
Flip it opposite of what you have it rigged and fish it
