Thanks for pointing this one out. I remember back when I was trying to learn this specific stroke in coming from failed attempts to using a 1 HBH seeing Nadal do this quite a bit, he was the one that came to mind when you mentioned "top players using this".
Very interesting, would not be very similar for one handed back hand or what would be different?
Thanks
Great Video
Awesome lesson - thanks Ryan!
So glad you liked it Jay!
I’ve seen this but didn’t know what it’s called. Djokovic would use an open stance. I also prefer an open stance on this ball but ai will try this way to see which way is better. Thanks Ryan!
Wide balls should use open stance And it hells to recover.
Open stance is the correct modern approach to this shot. Closed stance throws the body off balance, closes the hips too much for sufficient rotation for a sharp cross court angle, and take more time upon recovery. I was working with a pro tour team in Bradenton doing video analysis and it proved the open stance was best.
Thanks for your comments Samuel
I disagree a little. Arriving on the external leg and hitting open stance is the best option, forcing players to do it as much as possible is correct, no doubts about it, but there are cases in which the speed is too much or the distance to the ball is not optimal to hit on open stance in those cases this is the right option (a sort of second best). If it is done correctly (with the point of the foot pointing to the outside, as explained) allows the player to manage the speed of the run for the recovery and prevents knee injuries.
Nope. The balls you see in the video are very slow. So there is time to use closed stance. And for open stands you need the pressure of the opponnents shot. You see it in every pro match.
I think @2MinuteTennis is correct in this video.
We're rec players here. Not pros. Not D1-3 college.
Top 👌👌👌
Hip rotation is more important in backhand than forehand
👌👌👌👏👏👏
how to perform from a short and low ball with two hands?interested in footwork
Is there an advantage to this over an open stance mogul?
Open stance mogul is when you’re running faster to the side and need to recover back to the middle very quickly.
Do you mind taking a deep dive into the hip action on a one handed slice and topspin backhand? Thank You
@@roberthaar yes. I’ll make that video this week
I disagree. One should use open stance for most of the wide balls and so they can recover fast.
Pros use both in different situations.
For most of this kind of balls Djokevic almost always use open stance. One or two of ten times use close stance to go for a winner.
