Regarding the ban on burn cards, from what I remember, it seemed more to be a case of all pure burn cards being banned for some reason rather than them being powerful. My guess is that Kaiba thought they encouraged boring play.
I don't know if it's because he thought they would cause boring play, but yes, all pure burn cards were banned in Battle City. Good guess... but the real reason was because of the safety reasons. Experiencing pain from direct attacks is okay, but because Duel Disks are still being tested in this tourney, they haven't worked out the kinks on burn cards. The burn aftereffects can last past the actual game where it can he scarring. Hence why burn cards are illegal in the tourney.
I will forever love that Marik had zero respect for Joey and so he wanted to make him hurt and suffer but Joey would have won if he was able to declare an attack because you never underestimate your opponent
To be fair, I know they were not as big as the ones covered but I would say that Mako Tsunami and Weevil Underwood had interesting cards too for a top like this one, Rex Raptor a bit less, though, but maybe...?
would be cool Konami give marik some upgrade cards and they are illusion type monster since Marik has that eye symbol forehead both pegasus and Marik have in common the illusion eye
Excellent design in incorporating a DuelingLogs Ra Chant into the video. I would love to see you cover some of Bastion Massawa's cards from the Yugioh GX Series.
Quite the interesting variety of monsters picked for this list, even if #1 wasn't very surprising. I'm just surprised Zera the Mant made #10, considering Marik never directly used the card at all NOR was he shown owning it at any point. Since Marik is likely the last DM-era character to have truly iconic cards, moving onto GX-era chars makes the most sense to me. Maybe start with Jaden if you're going to do that.
Love the idea of ranking the top 10 most important cards for characters. I would love to see top 10's for characters from GX and 5D's, if you get the chance.
Maybe could've also mentioned another TCG form of Ra, a pretty cool take on its anime phoenix form - Immortal Phoenix: ATK 4000 / DEF 4000 Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by its own effect. If "The Winged Dragon of Ra" is sent from the field to your GY while this card is in your GY: Special Summon this card. Cards and effects cannot be activated in response to this effect's activation. This card is unaffected by other cards' effects. You can pay 1000 LP; send 1 monster on the field to the GY. Once per turn, during the End Phase: Send this card to the GY, and if you do, Special Summon 1 "The Winged Dragon of Ra - Sphere Mode" from your hand, Deck, or GY, ignoring its Summoning conditions.
22:12 Is kinda funny how this card, even in the anime, was an staple, yet Malik was the first one to make the most of it 24:11 Unexpected chant 26:46 It is kinda ironic that Ra's most used way of play is mimicking Lava Golem's effect. the only thing missing is Sphere Mode inflicting Effect damage (or worse, making you Pay LP)
18:53 Idea for a “Revival Jam” Retrain: _Revival Slime_ (WATER) Level 4 Aqua/Effect _If this card is banished or sent to the GY by an opponent’s card or effect: You can pay 1000 LP; Special Summon it in Defense position next phase. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can shuffle this card that is banished or in your GY into your deck: add to your hand or special summon 1 “Slime”, “Jam” or DIVINE monster from your GY._ ATK/500 DEF/1500
Some more Top 10 ideas (but I'm not sure if it's already been done): -Best cards from bad archetypes -Worst cards from good archetypes -Best Scale 0 Pendulum Cards (one list each all the way to Scale 13, if possible, since you have made lists for monsters with Levels, Ranks, and Link Ratings) Oh, and this might be too much, but what about the entire Duel Terminal lore for The Unknown Side of Yu-Gi-Oh? That very long story covered a lot of archetypes (unlike the Visas, Closed World, and World Legacy storylines) and I enjoyed reading all of it in Yugipedia
Yami Marik's play style in a nutshell: Yami Marik: Screw you in particular, this is PERSONAL. Opponent: What do you mean? I just met you 10 seconds ago for this duel.
What made Lava Golem a true threat was it's burn damage combos. LG delt 1000 points per turn and people loved using one or two Nightmare Wheel cards on it. Nightmare Wheel deals 500 burn damage per turn so two dealt 1000 points. Doing this delt 2000 burn damage per turn and could potentially win you the game. That combo was a menace to deal with back in the day. I doubt it would work at all these days.
I guess for GX, the big ones are Judai/Jaden, Yubel, Cyrus, Alexis, Chazz, Ed/Astor, Jessie, Zane, Darkness, and Sartorius are the ones that come to mind.
I run Metal Reflect Slime & Egyptian God Slime in both my Sacred Beast and King Tiger Decks on Master Duel, the former also in real life! In the case of the former, I use it as an additional means to get Continuous Traps into the Graveyard to power up Uria, but in both cases it's to get out a 3000 ATK monster who not only has destruction protection, but also redirects attacks, mainly away from the kitty (and if you can think of a better reason, I'd love to hear it!)! I also run Sphere Mode in my Kaiju Deck, alongside Lava Golem, I don't think I need to explain the thinking there, but I also run one Ra, cuz he'll be sticking around with 4000 ATK! I mean, hey, I've done something right, that Deck got me up to Platinum, so! Twice! (That said, Godzilla is pretty much the reason I got into the whole Japanese Monster stuff in the first place, such as Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon, so... And I have a playset of a lot of the Kaiju cards in real life!)
Also, GX characters that should be covered: - Jaden/Judai (Elemental Hero) - Syrus/Sho (Vehicleroids) - Chazz/Manjoume (Armed Dragon/Ojamas) - Alexis/Asuka (Cyber Angels) - Zane/Ryo (Cyber Dragons) - Aster/Edo (Destiny Heroes) - Sartorius/Takuma (Arcana Force) - Yubel (Uh... Yubel). If you also wanna do archetypes that also got support in the real life game, there's Crowler/Cronos (Ancient Gears), Tyranno (Evolution), Jim (Fossils), Adrian/Amon (Volcanic), and Jesse/Johan (Rainbow Dragon). Do also note that the manga versions of every GX character typically had the same archetypes, but used completely different cards. For example, Jaden in the manga used Elemental Hero Terra Firma as his ace Monster instead of Elemental Hero Neos.
Interesting idea to paraphrase the "Winged Dragon of Ra" chant when going into the card itself. The original chant recited by the Pharoah Atem is "Almighty protector of the Sun and Sky, I beg of thee please heed my cry. Transform thyself from Orb of Light and bring me victory in this fight. I beseech thee, grace our humble game, but first I shall call out thy name, Winged Dragon of Ra!"
Ah Lava Golem, the "Wait you can do that" interaction with Return from the Different Dimension. Yes my 2 lava golems that I used to summon Dark Necrofear are on my side of the board and attacking you.
It should be noted that Meteor of Destruction had no LF cost. It was a free 1000 burn card in tournament with 4000 LP. It was banned in Battle City since Kaiba banned all cards that could inflict damage directly or destroy a monster.
First Yugi hands Exodia to Weevil, and now he handing his puzzle to Bandit Keith. Yami Yugi should just had interfered and stopped Yugi for being such a fool. Soon he going give out his Slifer to a strange guy in an alley. Or wait he let Weevil and Rex steal all the millennium items. o3o and he also let his Egyptian god cards to get stolen as well. He just keep on getting stolen.
Gx next, the hype is real ! That's when i discovered yugioh and honestly there's so many interesting characters that needs to have a list like this. This is hands down the coolest era of yugioh imo. So many different themes, a more casual setup with twists that went a bit too far sometimes, so many cool designs ... And most importantly, crystal beasts ! :D
@@invencible373875559 My only guess for not including them, is due to lack of screen time? Still, it would be nice to see Weevil, Rex, Maiko, Bones, and Kieth get their own lists.
pretty late but this holds up Neko Mane King was used as Anti Tearizu because Neko Mane King stopped their field mid combo and the one Penguin monster could turn it making it into a gamble for the Tear player. Mushroom Man #2 was used to… block Kashtira since they all relied on summoning with their own effects and were all too high to be summoned normally.
What about top 5 or 10 of the strongest decks if you could use banned cards Great vid as always logs, I know you loved role-playing as Marik chanting at the end lmao
Left Arm Offering, Tribute to the Doomed, Raigeki, Magical Stone Excavation were some of Marik's better cards that saw play. Nightmare Wheel saw some fringe play in burn strategies.
A good thing to note regarding Meteor of Destruction (as well as other spells that just burn the opponent) in the anime is that it was banned by Kaiba BECAUSE is was a direct burn card. Sure, there's the side effect that allows you to force an opponent's monster to attack you, but aside from Joey using that to force a tie to save Yugi, why would you EVER use that second effect? The only reason other burn cards were legal is due to reasons such as Lava Golem getting summoned to the opponent's field (and being directly comparable to Blue-Eyes and Black Luster Soldier stat-wise), thus allowing them to use it against you if you don't have any protection.
Really hate the Makyura nerf honestly, it was iconic as the single most busted effect, would have been better to leave it as it was even if it meant staying banned, not to mention it's sad for people like me who play completely unrestricted formats just for the sheer chaos, was such a great card to have! As for Zera, sure it's bad by today's standards, but for it's time, it was amazing, when special summoning was rare, there was little use of the many lv4s you'd end up filling your hand with, so using them to summon it out while still getting a normal summon was great, while also cheaper and easier to get than BLS.
Back then, you can fusion summon Egyptian God Slime using Tear name into a link zone Spight Elf points to, it will protect your entire monster zone from being targeted which is quite OP in the Tear version that I piloted
A play I do against lava Golem is, they bring it out, play creature swap and give it to them. It then really depends on damage nullifiers like magic cylinder and other cards
It only makes sense to depict stall burn through a sadist like Merik. Also, if I remember the sub correctly, Seto banned burned cards because they were unsportmen to use moreso than they were strong.
Since you'll be moving on to GX, I guess that means minor characters like Weevil Underwood, Rex Raptor, Maiko Tsunami, Bones, and Bandit Kieth don't have enough content for their own top 10 lists? As for Marik's cards, I was really upset that Revival Jam got a life point cost to bring it back, where as the anime version had no cost. Also, I prefer pre-errata Makyura, since the new effect feels too restricted.
When this series started i thought that you'd get to Jack be the time the new structure deck comes but now I'm not sure if that video will come before December
Just a note, we might still cover more DM era characters in the future.
cool

At least it's something other than Kaiba slapping his unhealthy dragon fetish in your face constantly lol

To be fair, I know they were not as big as the ones covered but I would say that Mako Tsunami and Weevil Underwood had interesting cards too for a top like this one, Rex Raptor a bit less, though, but maybe...?
how to counter mariks shadow games "you feel the pain/damage your monsters take": play a machine deck or a deck that revolves around inanimate objects
would be cool Konami give marik some upgrade cards and they are illusion type monster since Marik has that eye symbol forehead both pegasus and Marik have in common the illusion eye
The illusion eye is the basics millennium symbol, even the ring and puzzle have it
Marik's monsters range from Fiend to Aqua. Not really Illusion type.
That would be peagasus
From 3:02 to 3:45 literally felt like an ad and I was waiting for you to say "this video is sponser by"
Excellent design in incorporating a DuelingLogs Ra Chant into the video. I would love to see you cover some of Bastion Massawa's cards from the Yugioh GX Series.
Gotta give you props for your version of the Ra chant! Very clever!
So, I guess we're skipping minor duelists like Weevil Underwood, Rex Raptor, Maiko Tsunami, Bones, and Bandit Kieth?
Yeah I think if you are including zera-tribute to the doomed or raigeki should make this list
Love the idea of ranking the top 10 most important cards for characters. I would love to see top 10's for characters from GX and 5D's, if you get the chance.
Love how he did the summoning chant of Ra like reading an essay
Maybe could've also mentioned another TCG form of Ra, a pretty cool take on its anime phoenix form - Immortal Phoenix:
ATK 4000 / DEF 4000
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set.
"For the most part, Marik dominated the 3rd rate duelist."
Wow, speaking of Lava Golem, the burn ... xD
Duel Logs version of the Winged Dragon of Ra chant was everything.
Yo. That custom summoning chant for the Winged Dragon of Ra was awesome!
22:12 Is kinda funny how this card, even in the anime, was an staple, yet Malik was the first one to make the most of it
24:11 Unexpected chant
26:46 It is kinda ironic that Ra's most used way of play is mimicking Lava Golem's effect. the only thing missing is Sphere Mode inflicting Effect damage (or worse, making you Pay LP)
That chant was fantastic
18:53
Idea for a “Revival Jam” Retrain:
_Revival Slime_ (WATER)
Level 4
Aqua/Effect
_If this card is banished or sent to the GY by an opponent’s card or effect: You can pay 1000 LP; Special Summon it in Defense position next phase. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can shuffle this card that is banished or in your GY into your deck: add to your hand or special summon 1 “Slime”, “Jam” or DIVINE monster from your GY._
ATK/500 DEF/1500
"You can often beat expensive meta with cheap cards."
Team Taiyou from 5D also tried something like that in-universe.
OK using the Egyptian god chant for your number one pic is absolutely hilarious. Thank you.
As a kid, I've always thought that Marik was the end boss of the anime. He's so evil and sadistic that he really scared me.
Some more Top 10 ideas (but I'm not sure if it's already been done):
-Best cards from bad archetypes
-Worst cards from good archetypes
-Best Scale 0 Pendulum Cards (one list each all the way to Scale 13, if possible, since you have made lists for monsters with Levels, Ranks, and Link Ratings)
Oh, and this might be too much, but what about the entire Duel Terminal lore for The Unknown Side of Yu-Gi-Oh? That very long story covered a lot of archetypes (unlike the Visas, Closed World, and World Legacy storylines) and I enjoyed reading all of it in Yugipedia
Just started the video, but I'm going to guess Sphere Mode is #1
He's definitely my favorite next to Kaiba for the OG series:)
Love the way you introduced #1.
Yami Marik's play style in a nutshell:
Yami Marik: Screw you in particular, this is PERSONAL.
Opponent: What do you mean? I just met you 10 seconds ago for this duel.
Love your version of Ra's Summoning Chant lol.
We need a Zane video, after all cyber dragon is objectively the most kick ass archetype as declared by god.
Yessss so you're not stopping at Duel Monsters. GX will be so hype.
TheDuelLogs: Makyura was just a small part of Marik's fiend army.
Makyura: but I'm a warrior 👁👄👁
Also, GX characters that should be covered:
- Jaden/Judai (Elemental Hero)
- Syrus/Sho (Vehicleroids)
- Chazz/Manjoume (Armed Dragon/Ojamas)
- Alexis/Asuka (Cyber Angels)
- Zane/Ryo (Cyber Dragons)
- Aster/Edo (Destiny Heroes)
- Sartorius/Takuma (Arcana Force)
- Yubel (Uh...
“The fact that it doesn’t have an effect makes it ineffective-“
Fair enough
Ok aside from the list, the chant was pretty dope.
Yes looking forward for the GX characters. Do Jaden, Amnael, Bastion and Syrus of course :D
22:34 I can't believe that there's a Yu-Gi-Oh character with the _unique_ ability to read the card text. This anime really was ahead of its time.
I love these videos they're awesome I hope you put them in a stand alone playlist

Ah Lava Golem, the "Wait you can do that" interaction with Return from the Different Dimension.
Yes my 2 lava golems that I used to summon Dark Necrofear are on my side of the board and attacking you.
Skipped left arm offering 🤔
there are stil some character in the original yugioh but yeah, gx is next
@@invencible373875559 My only guess for not including them, is due to lack of screen time?
Still, it would be nice to see Weevil, Rex, Maiko, Bones, and Kieth get their own lists.
Egyptian God Slime actually works really well in tear and becomes a massive problem when you have to out it first to deal with the other cards
A fun April Fool's Day video would be the return of this series staring Tristan
I'd love to see one of these kind of videos for The Chazz
pretty late but this holds up
Neko Mane King was used as Anti Tearizu because Neko Mane King stopped their field mid combo and the one Penguin monster could turn it making it into a gamble for the Tear player.
Mushroom Man #2 was used to… block Kashtira since they all relied on summoning with their own effects and were all too high to be summoned normally.
I was so hyped for Makyurya being off the banlist; it was one heck of a handtrap...
But then they errata'd it into a field-to-gy effect O_O
Certainly lost its competitive edge. Though he could be somewhat usable in a niche Link strategy.
What about top 5 or 10 of the strongest decks if you could use banned cards
Great vid as always logs, I know you loved role-playing as Marik chanting at the end lmao
Left Arm Offering, Tribute to the Doomed, Raigeki, Magical Stone Excavation were some of Marik's better cards that saw play.
Nightmare Wheel saw some fringe play in burn strategies.
ah nostalgic... last time my brother still played yugioh she used "Card of Safe Return" along with "Dark Word".... it was hell...
Really would love to see Tea's best cards 👀
Number one either shining friendship or dark magician girl
Same, she was my first Duel Links avatar and I always liked how she used cute fairies in a game full of fierce monsters and spellcasters
I say shining friendship personally although dark magician girl is perfect for Téa
Your version of Ra’s chant i truly hope go down in Yugioh’s history 😂
Really hate the Makyura nerf honestly, it was iconic as the single most busted effect, would have been better to leave it as it was even if it meant staying banned, not to mention it's sad for people like me who play completely unrestricted formats just for the sheer chaos, was such a great card to have!
As for Zera, sure it's bad by today's standards, but for it's time, it was amazing, when special summoning was rare, there was little use of the many lv4s you'd end up filling your hand with, so using them to summon it out while still getting a normal summon was great, while also cheaper and easier to get than BLS.
Loved the chant for the top 1
Back then, you can fusion summon Egyptian God Slime using Tear name into a link zone Spight Elf points to, it will protect your entire monster zone from being targeted which is quite OP in the Tear version that I piloted
A play I do against lava Golem is, they bring it out, play creature swap and give it to them. It then really depends on damage nullifiers like magic cylinder and other cards
This series is so cool. If you start doing the other series and protagonist then this has limitless potential
It only makes sense to depict stall burn through a sadist like Merik. Also, if I remember the sub correctly, Seto banned burned cards because they were unsportmen to use moreso than they were strong.
Since Millenium Rod Replica is now being sold, I wonder if we finally can play with Shadow Game rule and use these cards for competitive
Maybe include the other duelists as well, Weevil, Rex, Ishizu, Rafael, etc.
In Duel Links I liked to use Lava Golem + Mask of the Accursed
Unfortunately people easily either got rid of the equip or tributed the golem 💀
"He wasnt acting like his usual self"
Kieth: ø_ø

When this series started i thought that you'd get to Jack be the time the new structure deck comes but now I'm not sure if that video will come before December
Hes my favorite person to use in Duel Links.
Stall deck/Burn deck/LockDown deck
Egyptian god slime is such a cool card, that whole rage of ra set was pretty awesome
