24:17 I think the Ritual Monster is only based on the Monster World RPG endboss. That Zorc can be considered a weaker incarnation of the God of Darkness we see in the Millenium World, so they are obviously related but separate entities both which could be translated into the card game.
Its such a damn shame Bakura only had 2 wins and that one of them was offscreen. I genuinely think that there needed to be one more arc somewhere between Battle City and the finale to flesh out Bakura and show him actually being a consistent threat I mean, he's the only antagonist in the series in my opinion that actually has a perfectly valid reason to hate Atem and his family tbh
Change of Heart would likely still be banned if Brain Control didn't get an errata as Brain Control would've been the card that came off the ban list instead when Change of Heart did. I don't think such a powerful card could go back to 3.

As amazing of a character Yami Bakura was, I wish we got to see more of Ryo proper. Even most of the cards on this list, given their twisted and occult nature, are tied to the Bandit King himself, that it feels like we hardly know the true Ryo’s playstyle. The wiki mentions that his Duelist Kingdom deck implies a tarot theme with Lady of Faith (aka Highpriestess), White Magical Hat, Happy Lover, Doma Angel of Silence, and of course the famous Change of Heart. I just wish we could have seen more of that, considering the dark Bakura and his occult fiends were such a tour de force
I play necro fear in my goat deck as one of my boss monster. It's easier to bring out in a format where giant germ still most likely gets destroyed via battle.
I love how gracefully you were dancing around the fact Bakura was poorly written, eating defeat after defeat despite being the final boss. I guess it kinda is the curse of BBEGs. You build them up only to lose the only (or in that case many) duel they participate in.
Bakura was the best written villain in the series. He actually had a reason and motivation to do what he did. He had a setup from before the series focused on Duel Monsters, stayed relevant and didn't just go away after losing a game. Did things outside of Duel Monsters as the game was never his focus and only played when he had to. Went through as much effort as possible to set up the second RPG on a grander scale that actually had to do with his and Atem's history, technically rewriting history if he succeeded. He basically did in real-life what he setup in the first RPG by pretending to be a friend and reveal to be an enemy all the way to being the final Boss. If anything, Yami Marik was the most poorly written villain of the series as he just sort of appears. Sure he's written as a split personality, but that never explained why he had the Eye of Wjadt on his head. Seemed like it was supposed to hint at the Millennium Rod was possessing him, since that made sense with all the other times the eye was used by Marik and the Rod, but the idea was dropped. All he wanted to do was kill Yugi/Atem and spread pain. That was pretty much it, a very basic character.
@@ViroVeteruscythey should’ve expanded on yami Marik by revealing him as the spirit of someone from ancient Egypt and he was pure evil and he teamed up with Bakura
Bakura is a character almost ruined by the time the series was made. Evil has to lose when the stakes are too high, so Bakura doing almost exclusively win or die duels, paired in a show where Yugi gets more creative control over his duels than Hulk Hogan, meant he just had to lose over and over. Yeah! I loved all his decks cus he's kind of THE player that introduced us to all the alternate win-cons: Burn-mill with just dessert and morphing jar, destiny board, full-on mill with the cursed dolls, and tbh the only reason he lost is because he's always against Yugi who obviously had to draw the out at the final moment.

I never did watch too much of the Dawn of the Duel arc, so everything I associate with Bakura is mostly from the duels at Duelist Kingdom, Battle City, and his last duel against Yugi That said, Zorc is synonymous with Bakura. In any form.
Bakura is my favourite character in the franchise - and when tou think about it, his desire to kill the Pharaoh isn't unfounded, as his village was slaughtered to create the Millennium Items. Then Zorc showed up and well... y'know the rest.
Umm, small correction on the Zorc section... Bakura wasn't the one using the double hit technique, Yugi did. Bakura used a different "run of criticals" trick that was in the same "class" but was never explained on how it worked... after Yami Yugi shoed his knowledge of the "double hit", Bakura made a new rule to ban either of them from any fancy dice rolling tricks (and then started to use the brainwashed dice). Big props for pointing out that the card was based off of the Monster World version though, as opposed to the memory world version... I think a lot of people miss that since Monster world was from the manga, making it a lot less known then anything that got to appear in the anime.
Been loving to show these kinds of videos about iconic DM-era chars' most important cards so far. So are there going to be any more like this? I know Pegasus could have quite a lot of "iconic" cards to showcase, considering Pegasus MADE the game in-universe.
Change of Heart has always been my favorite card, and while it's niche has mostly been replaced by TTT, it's great to see that it's still one of the most impactful effects in the game if you know what you're doing.
I’m so glad you came out with this video. Thank you! Bakura was always the underlying villain in the series. And even tho his monster cards were not that good in the TCG, they were pretty cool to me in the anime. Side note it’s good catching up with your videos, I’ve been bingeing them all on the way to work. I’ve missed out on so much, stopped watching the anime and playing yugioh since life happened. Keep them coming! 🙌🏼

9:50 Idea for a new Necrofear monster: _Primal Necrofear_ (DARK) Level 8 Fiend/Fusion/Effect “Dark Necrofear” + “Curse Necrofear” _You can also special summon this card (from your Extra deck or GY) by sending 3 Fiend monsters you own that are banished or in your hand to the GY. So i build a bunch of decks to create an in house meta for me and a few friends. I don't spend a lot on any one card, but I'd like to see a list something like "best 10 cards under 50cents" or best "10 cards under 1 dollar" According to whatever common platform you feel is best to get aprox value... though it will change with time im curious what you think are the best cheapest cards.
I had an interesting thought. What if present Bakura's personality could represent how the Thief King could've ended up if the genocide of Kul Elna never happened?
Pegasus will probably be the next one. Toon World will probably be #1 on that list even though the real world version of it is trash, but Thousand Eyes Restrict should be somewhere in the top 4 as it was busted back in the day and is still decent even now.
Honestly given the release of the 25th anniversary, it might be interesting to see a top 10 of each of the first 6 packs of Yu-Gi-Oh, just recently got 2 booster boxes of blue eyes and while the cards are primitive and archaic I am excited to get like 2-5 friends and do a 2-6 man draft with DM era rules of 1 Attack per turn, 1 direct attack = wins, etc.(none of that ultra specific stuff like types counters, leave that for pokemon)
Do find it kind of interesting that despite Dark Bakura being a Thief in his previous life, he uses a deck themed around Occult stuff like haunted objects, ghosts and dolls. It's not like Yu-Gi-Oh is lacking in Theft cards. Could've been cool if he played with a Bandit Deck.
I think the thing is that Dark Bakura may have shared his name and appearance with the Thief King, Zorc was who he really was inside. The Spirit of the Puzzle really was Atem, the Spirit of the Ring only seemed to be Bandit Bakura.
I have this exact Destiny Board/Necrofear casual deck in MD(save for his normal monsters), his cards r so satisfying if u can win with them. that's what boring-to-see meta decks such as albaz, dark magician etc dont have
I always liked the vanilla monsters Bakura used during the duels and despite Change Of Heart being the most iconic card of him -- Zorc and Diamond were heavily misused and overlooked.
fun fact: the original English text of the "Spirit Message" cards only required Destiny Board to be on the field, so if you had all four spirit messages in your hand when destiny board was up, and the space, you could otk with them.
Alternative Win conditions are bad also because if they where good and consistent, people would complain, because they would dominate the Meta. It's the Exodia problem: If Exodia decks where consistent, everyone would be playing Exodia. If Destiny Board was consistent, everyone would be playing Destiny Board.
"D-E-A-T-H...Death!" - Joking aside, Bakura's Ouija Board was a brilliantly macabre counterpart to Atem's Exodia. Also, Bakura's first name is "Ryo", not "Ryu".
Dark Bakura is heavily underestimated due to his losses. He only needed to defeat Atem once. If he could claim the Millennium Puzzle, he would be mere inches away from inciting doomsday. On top of that, he was ruthless and deadly. He was terrifying during his duel with Ghost Kotsuzuka. This is one of those scenarios where the Anime surpassed the Manga. In the Manga, his win was off-panel, and it's hard to tell if Kotsuzuka is dead or knocked out. Whereas in the Anime, he sent Kotsuzuka, Satake and Takaido to Hell.
So what I learned from this is that the only reason Bakura ever lost was plot armor. Even if he wasn't playing the best strategies, he was the best at those strategies and could adapt to the changes in a game, but couldn't ever win because of being a villain without plot armor like Marik.
I wonder what are the Top 10 most important cards of the characters in this list. Marik, Duke, Jaden, Zane, Chazz, Aster, Jesse, Yubel, Syrus, Alexis, Atticus, Hassleberry, Crowler, Yusei, Jack, Crow, Akiza, Leo, Luna, Kalin, Trudge, Antinomy, Aporia, Yuma, Kite, Reginald, Quattro, Trey, Quinton, Vetrix, Yuya, Zuzu, Celina, Yuto, Sawatari, Declan, Gong, Yugo, Shay, Yuri, Playmaker, Revolver, Soulburner, Gore, Blue Angel/ Blue Maiden, AI
As a player who has used Dark (and Curse) Necrofear, a lot, I have found moderate use in my Unchained deck due to it being a predominant Fiend-type (main) deck; it is very useful as an XYZ material for Dingisru or Black Luster Soldier - Soldier of Chaos, though I do not gain the possession effect, and on occasion serves as graveyard fuel for Unchained Soul of Disaster/Rage/Anquish's effect and Curse Necrofear, on top of Dark Spirit of Malice/Banishment's "whack a mole" effect (both of which are amazing and fun to use in my deck!). I guess what I'm trying to say is, yeah Necrofear herself might not the greatest card but to me she'll always have a place in the Unchained deck.
I find it weird that you used the source manga to explain Zorc, but before that you didn't use the source manga version of Zoma to explain how Yami Bakura faced Jonouchi earlier in the final arc (not adapted in the anime) and how Jonouchi was going to lose because of Zoma attacking him directly, but darkness covered the whole Memory World before Zoma killed Jonouchi. Zoma didn't appear vs Yugi. The anime staff added that because they didn't show it earlier.
Bakura was ahead of his time in the card meta. Using the graveyard as an extra resource and using flood gates rather than just straight beat sticks
You know, what this tells me is that Yami Bakura would be a solid duelist if he was given modern cards and time to study the game.
The spirit residing in Bakura is one of the toughest characters in all of Yu-Gi-Oh! and always rises.
24:17 I think the Ritual Monster is only based on the Monster World RPG endboss.

While you control a monster that was ritual summoned by this card: You gain LP equal to the total ATK/DEF of any monsters your opponent summons. If this card is in your GY: You can target 1 Fiend or Ritual monster you control; Destroy it, then add this card to your hand._
I can't wait to see that Konami does with Zorc when it releases!
I never did watch too much of the Dawn of the Duel arc, so everything I associate with Bakura is mostly from the duels at Duelist Kingdom, Battle City, and his last duel against Yugi
That said, Zorc is synonymous with Bakura.
Guessing that some of the top spots are Change of Heart, Man-Eater Bug, and Jowgen the Spiritualist.
Yeah I was surprised man eater bug and jowgen didn't get a mention
Been loving to show these kinds of videos about iconic DM-era chars' most important cards so far. So are there going to be any more like this? I know Pegasus could have quite a lot of "iconic" cards to showcase, considering Pegasus MADE the game in-universe.
Pegasus is next yes
Awesome! Can't wait!
Change of Heart has always been my favorite card, and while it's niche has mostly been replaced by TTT, it's great to see that it's still one of the most impactful effects in the game if you know what you're doing.
It really is. The fact it's Limited hurts a bit. TTT is unlimited but locked behind an activation condition.
Honestly even though Jaden Yuki is known as a Hero player he actually ran a bunch of non HERO monsters in his run. I think as a challenge it'll be interesting to see you do a top ten of Jaden Yuki's best Non HERO monsters
I want that archtype deck printed he used against yugi in the final season!
9:50 Idea for a new Necrofear monster:
_Primal Necrofear_ (DARK)
Level 8
Fiend/Fusion/Effect
“Dark Necrofear” + “Curse Necrofear”
_You can also special summon this card (from your Extra deck or GY) by sending 3 Fiend monsters you own that are banished or in your hand to the GY. If this card you control would be banished: Send it the the GY instead (This cannot be negated, ignored or responded to). Once per turn, you can banish 1 Fiend monster from your GY: Add 1 Spell/Trap to your hand (From your deck or GY) with a different name then any spells/traps from your hand or field. During the End Phase, if this card is in the GY because of an opponent’s card or effect: Apply 1 of the following effects:_
⚪️Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; equip this card to that target. While this card is equipped to a monster by this effect, take control of that monster.
⚪️Special Summon this card from your GY, then, you can destroy cards your opponent controls, up to the number of face-up Spells/Traps you control with different names
ATK/2800 DED/2800
What’s Primal Necrofear’s Attribute?
@@taninsuwannatri8411
DARK
So let me get this straight
He's brought out by putting 3 fiends from the banished pile or hand to the gy
He can't be banished
He adds ANY Spell/Trap to the hand basically
During the EP, he can use one of the necrofears effects (I assume the second one is cursed necrofear)
Overall, I'd say this is decent design. It references both the old and the new necrofear while also being a upgrade. Good job dude
But do something about the third effect, add any spell or trap on a monster which such an easy summoning condition seems like you ask fiend decks to break this card apart
@@lordofcrows
I could focus the spell/trap search to only continuous ones. To keep in line with the Destiny board thing.
@@lordofcrows
So more like… This?:
_Primal Necrofear_ (DARK)
Level 8
Fiend/Fusion/Effect
“Dark Necrofear” + “Curse Necrofear”
_You can also special summon this card (from your Extra deck or GY) by sending 3 Fiend monsters you own that are banished or in your hand to the GY. If this card you control would be banished: Send it the the GY instead (This cannot be negated, ignored or responded to). Once per turn, you can banish 1 Fiend monster from your GY: Add 1 _*_Continuous_*_ Spell/Trap to your hand (From your deck or GY) with a different name then any spells/traps from your hand or field. ATK/2800 DED/2800
Zorc was also the star of a hit sitcom
18:00 Idea to make live up to it’s anime effects:
_Diabound Kernel: _*_Oh Vengeance Mine_* (DARK)
Level 6
Fiend/Effect
_Gains ATK/DEF equal to the current or original ATK/DEF of any monsters it destroys by battle (Whichever is higher). If this card battles: It gains 600 ATK/DEF. You can only use each of the following effects of "Diabound Kernel" once per turn. (Quick Effect) If a monster you control is destroyed by battle, or you take battle damage from an opponent’s attack: You can Normal Summon this card from your hand or Special Summon it from your GY. If this card battles: It gains 600 ATK/DEF. (Quick Effect): You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; it loses ATK equal to this card's current ATK until the end of this turn, then banish this card until the Standby Phase of the next turn._
ATK/1800 DEF/1200
So i build a bunch of decks to create an in house meta for me and a few friends.
I don't spend a lot on any one card, but I'd like to see a list something like "best 10 cards under 50cents" or best "10 cards under 1 dollar"
According to whatever common platform you feel is best to get aprox value... though it will change with time im curious what you think are the best cheapest cards.
I had an interesting thought. What if present Bakura's personality could represent how the Thief King could've ended up if the genocide of Kul Elna never happened?
Yami Bakura was the definition of “Playing the Long Game”!
Pegasus will probably be the next one. Toon World will probably be #1 on that list even though the real world version of it is trash, but Thousand Eyes Restrict should be somewhere in the top 4 as it was busted back in the day and is still decent even now.
For an april fools day video I would love to see is 'Top 10 Cards My Dad Can Beat Up in a Fight.'
Yugi sure was “lucky” he drew the card he needed
His occult deck was cooked by Bakura himself, Yami Bakura just used it.
Gotta do Yusei Fudo the best protagonist
Just want to say it because its not your typical type of yugioh content, but i LOVE these type of vidoes. x
I have this exact Destiny Board/Necrofear casual deck in MD(save for his normal monsters), his cards r so satisfying if u can win with them. that's what boring-to-see meta decks such as albaz, dark magician etc dont have
Yami Bakura is such a menace.
Would be interesting to see the trend of type monsters in the anime, like fiends or dragons
Change of Hearts is one of my favorite cards. I love this series. Top 10 Pegasus' cards would be cool to see.
Bakura is my favorite character in all the YGO universe, so happy to see this video!!!
I always liked the vanilla monsters Bakura used during the duels and despite Change Of Heart being the most iconic card of him -- Zorc and Diamond were heavily misused and overlooked.
Bakura was a 5000 year old noob, you are suppose to set any and all useful cards before you activate exchange
You should refer the Speed Duel format more often, since some of these cards and strategies are very relevant. Specially with certain Skill Cards.
Love your videos
Thank you for making this video. Bakura is awesome!
I love Bakura I have a Japanese set of his occult deck framed. I had to add the newer Dark Necrofear.
Honorable Mention: Man-Eater Bug
fun fact: the original English text of the "Spirit Message" cards only required Destiny Board to be on the field, so if you had all four spirit messages in your hand when destiny board was up, and the space, you could otk with them.
Alternative Win conditions are bad also because if they where good and consistent, people would complain, because they would dominate the Meta. It's the Exodia problem: If Exodia decks where consistent, everyone would be playing Exodia. If Destiny Board was consistent, everyone would be playing Destiny Board.
And there have been times Exodia has been a threat.
The fact Bakura used Earthbound cards before Earthbound was even a thing in yu gi oh 5Ds ...
Many vilians in Yu-Gi-Oh .
Amazing how many they are but i think Bakura the best one
Bakura not setting that monster reborn before using exchange is bad writting 101.
Never did i understand why atem didnt just ASK anyone in egypt what his name was.
My Goat!
so you tell me the main antagonist in the series is the one that created all the Toxic playstyle
The Dark World Archetype would be perfect for his thematic play.
My fav YGO antagonist.
I've got my fingers crossed for some bakura retrains in the near future
After bakura will see marik
Top 10 cards better in real life than the anime/manga
I am waited for Spirit Illusion :(
"Say Yugi, can I be in this episode?"
Hi ma' man!
It's Zorc and pals!
For some reason this guy is one of the few exceptions I know, where I never think it sounds arrogant or pretentious whenever he says "you see....." 😅🤔
