    Nice video. I made one paint marker, I used regular acrylic paint and airbrush medium. A year later and it’s still good. My be less expensive than the refills, can’t hurt to try it 😊

      Thank you so much for sharing this Barbara, I guess the airbrush medium helps to thin it out and act as an extender - such a good idea! So glad it's worked for you too, I think I have a lot of experimenting in my future! 😄

    Yup, love this Katie. I have the same cheap Amazon empty pens ready to go and now you’ve given me the push to just get on and fill them up with your lovely video :)

    Thanks for this video Katie! Perfect timing for me. Do you think you can mix your own colours with normal acrylic paints if you mix them with enough water? 🤔 I have so many acrylics that I don’t use often and I’d like to make some markers with them.

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  15 часов назад +2

      So glad it was perfect timing for you Amber! I think these have an 'extender' in the which stops them from drying out so I'm not sure if just acrylic paint and water would work, but it's not something I've tested! A lot of other commenters also say that acrylic ink works in these if you have those!

      @@KatieMoody Oooh I have lots of acrylic inks! Perhaps I will buy some of the empty markers and have an experiment ☺️ Thanks Katie!

    If someone compiled a database of color mix proportions, they would be hailed as a hero. I could imagine wasting a lot of paint getting the right ratios.

    • @DariaMotorina
      @DariaMotorina День назад +1

      I suppose that Pantone color mixing guide might be the starting point for looking for pigments and proportions

    • @hippopotamusbosch
      @hippopotamusbosch День назад +2

      @ Pantone books cost hundreds of dollars so not practical for saving money. And the Pantone ratios are designed for transparent oil based inks as opposed to the more opaque acrylic inks we're discussing here.

      My advice would be to study colour theory. I promise it makes colour mixing easy no matter the medium! 😊 I even use colour theory at work every day (hairstylist)

      I have a book 1500 Color Mixing Recipes by William F. Powell

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  15 часов назад

      I think mixing some of the colours you want to make in the markers using just acrylic paint at first would help to see the colours/ratios needed, but agreed! A big database of colour mixes would be so so helpful 😄

      Thank you Judy! The airbrush medium is a great shout to mix with acrylic paints. Acrylic inks have also been recommended in the comments as working well for refills too!

    Lots of empties sold on Temu, AliEx, or Amazon. Nibs, too. But wasn't sure exactly what to fill them with. They can be filled with inks or paints.

    Great video! I’m intrigued and may try to mix my own. I have a bunch of pre-made ones that I don’t use much due to how bright they are, so the idea of toning them down a bit is very appealing!

      Thanks Rachel! I really do wish they'd bring out a more muted/pastel range - I'd buy so many 🤣 but this is a good way to make it work for us at least!

    I loved how your custom colors worked in your Patreon video, Katie. Did you know you can reuse empty Posca markers? I used Liquitex acrylic ink in a 2 mm Posca pen. My nib had a lot of dried ink in it, but I was able to revive the nib by soaking it in warm soapy water and scrubbing it with a toothbrush. I wish I invented this technique, but there's a video: ruclips.net/video/4Uc5XFxyJ9U/видео.htmlsi=wkC-zFLMgsk8hSwm

      @KatieMoody  15 часов назад +1

      Thank you so much, this is so helpful! I have a couple of older Poscas that are drying out so I'll have a go - thank you for sharing! Love that acrylic inks work too! Really appreciate the video link as well 🥰

  • @Paintsplash4
    @Paintsplash4 22 часа назад

    I'd love to experiment with using ordinary diluted acrylic paint or fluid acrylics. I don't know if your refills contain an agent that impedes drying, so that would probably be a factor in whether or not nibs would clog. I do know that Lindsay Weirich has refilled Poscas with just diluted acrylics.

    • @KatieMoody
      @KatieMoody  15 часов назад

      Yes I believe it contains an extender which helps, but a lot of other comments say that acrylic ink works as refills so I'm going to have to experiment! 😃
