In this video I show you how to play chords and a bass line on the new Native Instruments Maschine Mikro MK3. I demo how to create a new group, setup the pads to play chords, and use the Chord Set feature for some inspiring chord progressions. This is really great for beginners or if you don’t understand music theory. You’ll be making music quickly. I also show you step by step, how to add a bass line on the Maschine Mikro MK3, using a plugin instrument. This is great if you already have some plugins that you’ll like to use with your Maschine. I show you how to browse sounds, load them, and then play and record chords and a tune. I’ll also show you how to layer these sounds on your beat. I will also show you how to use the Step Sequencer to create and modify beats in a different way. If you haven’t already, check out the first tutorial in this series here: • Maschine Mikro MK3 Tut... .

Great video series. Side note. You can hold shift and twist the encoder to drop your root note down an octave.
Ooooh! So much easier! Thank you!!!
I love the fact these videos are short enough and well laid out enough to quickly go "how do you do that?" skip skip there it is... 10 seconds later.. cool i know it now.. nice one
Thanks, Liam! :-)
DITTO Liam, perfect videos
Thanks, I enjoyed following along on my Mikro!
🙏🏽 Thank you so much, truly generous. Really appreciate you supporting my work. 😃
I started on these videos last night, didn't quite wrap my head around, but then I slept on it and came back today and everything clicked. Thank you
I just received and MK3 Mikro for my birthday, because my wife is awesome! I just wanted to thank you for this video series as it was exactly what I needed to get started. You have yourself a new subscriber. Thanks!
Yay for awesome wives!
You are full of talents Sanjay. I learned this just watching your videos. Keep posting. God bless you
Hey, great! Thanks for finding me! :-D What type of music do you make?
@@SanjayC
Oh thanks for replying. I am Rakesh from Leeds UK I play Indian /Punjabi folk/ Bollywood song on my KORG PA00 arranger keyboard. Though I am not trained and have no knowledge of music theory, I have collected almost 90K subscribers 😂 So I realised that I should add some more gears to my little studio, bought Maschine3 and found your beautiful channel. Here are my couple of performances on KORG PA900

Thanks to you for all those tutorials that I already playing a bit after couple of days I bought that Maschine 🙏

I'm so happy to hear that! I hope you enjoy the MK3...I think its great
"Think of groups as tracks in traditional recording terms" That was when I knew this was going to be way better than any other maschine mikro tutorial and exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you!!
You're welcome! So glad you found it useful! Tell your friends! :-)
You explain things so well, Sanjay! THANK YOU!

You're welcome! Glad you find them helpful!
Been with FL my whole music career. This is the best video on how to use maschine hands down. Cut my learning curve big time

Awesome! What kind of music are you making, Jacques?
What a great video. I just bought a Mikro for finger drumming but this looks very appealing to me too.
Sanjay, your lessons about Maschine are great! Now, how do I record all the drums from Maschine in Logic Pro X?
Great tutorial, after the second video (in total less than 20 min for both videos) you can create the first beat
Thanks again Sanjay
It is so easy to follow along your tutorials. Keep up!
Thanks Alkkku!
just got one for Christmas and knew to go to you on how to use it

Hi Sanjay, can we create various types of time signatures with patterns in 7/8 or 5/4, for instance, with these kinds of machines and softwares?
Debating between this and the a25! Seems like the mk3 is better for hip hop production! What you guys think!?
They are both so different. I suggest the MK3 and the new M32 actually. ruclips.net/video/Vz1-FSHQsT4/видео.html
Thank you for putting in the work to do this!
You're welcome! 🙏

The best maschine mikro tutorials I came across so far. Thanks \!/
Hi Sanjay C I’m planning on buying the Komplete Kontrol s61 mk2 and really want the maschine mikro too...
What do u suggest I do? do u think it’s worth buying both of them or will the s61 have most of these features...
Also I have an akai lpd8 will I be able do anything like the maschine mikro with it??
Please help...
Thanks in advance 😀😀
I suggest buying the S61 and getting a good Komplete software bundle with it because the price is so good now. Wait to buy the Maschine Mikro later. You can access some of the Maschine software features from the keyboard already. And don’t forget to use my link to the Ni sale! 😊 thanks buddy. If you have more questions, let me know.
@@SanjayC thank you so much for ur reply, will surely use ur link if I buy it from the NI store...
Thanks again, btw I kinda binge watched almost all of ur videos..

Hey man your tutorials are really helping me i am high functioning autistic and you explain things perfectly! Thank you for what you do here at my studio i am grateful learning the new NI products. Can you make a video on the A25 and how to sync it up as well as the maschine mikro with Cubase 10 Pro?
I'm so glad to hear that my videos are helpful to you! I'm not a Cubase user, so you may need to google that one. I'll try to do a video on the A25 soon.
awesome. really helping me figure this thing out!
Glad you found it helpful!
These are great , I have a question how do I get the project to always start at the beginning is there a setting I’ve missed? Thx , I would be lost without your videos
You can press the Restart button to start from the beginning.
@@SanjayC thank you , please keep making these fantastic video’s. Btw LinkedIn which now owns Lynda , or ask Lynda ? A pay for tutorial site has no tutorials on Mikro , you may get a gig there with yours . Chk it out
Excellent tutorial! Thanks again!
Amazing set of tutorials!
Thanks!
I don't know if Mikro is easier or you are great teacher! You showed how to get started in minutes! I had regular Mk3 and watchd hours of videos, and still there was much to learn, and much I didn't understand. Am I thinking right that, regular Mk3 users are above Mikro or it just depends on one's needs?
can I add samples like of a song I like
I have both the Mikro MK3 and the S49 connected to my computer but the keyboard doesn't seem to do anything. Am I overlooking something?
Thanks a lot, for your videos !! That's a really good tutorial !!!!
You're welcome! Hope you subscribed! ;-)
Although I am extensively late, I love the content, you have made this process simple and effective.
Glad it was helpful!
And God creates Sanjay C...
Thank u a lot ! It is so usefull for me !!! Thank u very much ❤
😃 Next tutorial coming out tomorrow!
These videos are extremely helpful!
Love the video. How do you adjust the volume of specific sounds on a kit?
Hold that pad and turn the knob.
sweet thanks bro
When I try to add high hat using the step function I am not able to. The lights don't light up on the pad when I press them as you did at 5:58. Any tips?
You show it the best of all video's
Excellent tutorial, as always. Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks the video..how do I favorite a kit/sound on the mikro?
I wish you do more videos like this
what sound is he using in the minute 4:12???? please I need to know that
I think hes using baseball :)
Can I place patterns together? Say my verse is 4 bars and then my post chorus is 2 and chorus is a different drum beat and its 4 bars?
Yes you can
@@SanjayC Thank you 👍
great teacher!
Thanks a lot for this tutorial that helped me a lot in discovering the maschine! I have one problem though that i am not able to resolve: when I want to choose a sound from the « All instruments » tab (in Library), it doesn’t play a sample when i turn the knob but i am forced to actually load it to be able to hear it... Any idea why? Many thanks! Jo
Yes, you should install the "Previews" app from Native Access. That should fix the issue.
@@SanjayC thanks :)
This is a real tutorial! Very very useful!
Thanks!
Great explaination, thanks man!
THanks!
GREETINGS.....MR SANJAY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIVID REVIEW OF THIS PRODUCT. PLEASE, CAN I HOOK UP A KEYBOARD CONTROLLER TO THE MK3 MIKRO. THANKS.
You won’t hook it up to the Mikro, you will connect it directly to you computer. But it will work together with the Mikro
what's the name of the bass you used? I've been trying to follow along and you lost me there
Baseball
Great Tutorial! Thanks!
:-)
Best tutorial out . Thanks
You rock Sanjay!!!! Thanks for the videos. Curious, is it possible to play a chord on the keyboard and map that to a trigger pad? - Thanks in advance.
I dont' think that Maschine has that feature (I may be wrong). But you can try the Chord set feature like I showed in this video, but of course you'll just have the chords - you won't combine chords plus drums. To do that, you have to save your chords as a sample (audio file), and then add it to your drum set.

@@SanjayC thanks. Salute from 🇲🇾 Malaysia
Hi Sanjay, I would love to know if there is a sleek way of combining the maschine software with a setup of Ableton Live and the Push 2. Does it even make sense? What are the benefits and the downsides? I would really appreciate a tutorial on that :D.
Hi Sean. I'd LOVE to make a video about that...unfortunately, there's no easy way to do it. The process is complicated and time consuming and you'll have to do it for every song/beat you make. I honestly feel that NI do that because they want to have people produce in Maschine completely. If I find a good way, I definitely make a video about it.
Sanjay C, thanks for your instant reply. You are awesome. 😃 Quite a bummer, but that is indeed what I was thinking about NI's strategy on Maschine, too. Yet to me Maschine is simply not a production suite. I don't own a Maschine, but since the software is included in Komplete 12 I thought I'd give it a chance. Thanks again and have a lovely day.
Can you use the maschine controller on vsts like session guitarist sunburst or shreddage 3?
Yes, you can! You can use it on ANY plugin or Kontakt instrument that you can play like a keyboard.
@@SanjayC that is incredible! Cos I'm more of a beat maker but I'd love to add some cool hard rock rythem guitar to my beats and I was wondering if I should buy shreddage 3 Stratus or not. I'd love to see a demo of this! See how session guitarist or something works on the maschine mikro mk3
Is a group equivelent to an instrument and or synth? As there is no way to get another sound into another pattern.
Can you set a specific scale on the keyboard and chord mode? For example G minor or D major etc
Yes you can. You can set the scale
Can you change note duration and still use the step sequencer correctly? Say I want to have a bar of 8th note hi hats and then a bar with 16th note how does that work?
Hello, I have a question regarding using the chords feature. Under the keyboard portion you configure the pads to the C major scale. Are you able to perform the same function under chords? Meaning could I play the chords under a selected major or minor scale chosen? If yes, is the mapping to the pads identical to the intervals you played in the C major scale?
Very nice videos! Thanks a lot! Could you maybe make one video on how to setup "real" instruments (guitar, piano etc.). I've been having some troubles with it. Thanks anyway!
How do you mean? Like record real instruments through a microphone?
@@SanjayCthanks for answering so fast! More like via audio interface. I have already everything connected, but still the e-piano doesn't "go into" the software.
Oh I get it, I meant e-piano and e-guitar. Not real-real (acoustic) instruments. :)
The MK3 doesn't have an audio input, so you'll have to record sounds to your computer first and then play them with the sampler
Can you tell me how to share sounds from Rolland Pad to maschine mk3 🙏🏼🙏🏼
which massive bass your using?
Hey Sanjay👋🏼 I have a question I am about to get
Native Instruments Maschine MK3
I have a podcast and i like to yse it to record live on ablton live or maschine software to add sound effects while i am recording
I know it’s super weird why you wanna do that
😂but i like to use this surface controller while recording and editing with
My set up is

Interface focuserit solo 3rd gen
And finaly the Maschine MK3
What you think I hope you respond soon
Take care see U 🖐😄
Hey Sanjay! Great videos thanks! Do you know why when I go to the native instruments plug ins (4'00 on your video, nothing come through on my computer, the section is empty. Thanks for your help
That's possible. I have the Native Instruments Komplete 12 bundle (separate purchase) installed so I have items in that menu.
Sanjay, I have a question for you. I have lots of equipment, machines, software, etc. But how do I take my music creation from amateur to something more polished sounding the way your music sounds?
I can make music, I can create beats, but I feel like my music is never as real as for example yours is.
People say I should mix and master, but I have no idea what to do aside from making the tracks sound good together. Whatever I do, my stuff (at least to me) sounds super amateur to anyone else's music.
Any advice?
And, as always, thanks for your awesome videos.
Hi Caid, first of all, thank you for the compliment. And I just listened to your tracks on Soundcloud - you've got an ear for melody, and you're making some good stuff - in your style. That said, here's my answer: If you hear a song you like: dissect it. I do this at least once a week! I listen to each layer in that song and I create my own song by following that pattern. This allows me to learn how to use sounds that compliment each other, adjust EQ and spread so that things don't clash, and set levels appropriately. It has really impacted the way I create my own stuff. Try it - take a song you like and try mimicking it - one instrument at a time. After some time, the techniques will become natural and your own sound will come through. Listen to the music in my latest video about midi keyboards. I created that track by mimicking the sound of the song "My Life" (ruclips.net/video/cNizeRa8DZ4/видео.html). It ended up sounding totally different - it sounded like me. And that's where you want to get. Let me know if this technique works for you. I'm curious if others will be successful using it.
@@SanjayC I will certainly give that method a try. I've kind of been living in a bubble, as far as music production is concerned, and haven't picked up any tips and tricks on making the process easier or methodical, so if your method is common knowledge, it's entirely new to me.
Thanks for sharing, and hahaha thanks for having a listen to my SoundCloud.
So YOU'RE the one! :P
I don't know if its common knowledge, but I first did it with the Odesza song - when I copied it and I ended up learning so much. So now, that's how I teach myself new techniques.
@@SanjayC well hey, thanks for the advice. At the very least, it gives me direction for my music production development (which is no small thing to have) and best case scenario it'll help clarify the process for me a bit more.
You're a saint, brother.
From Russia with love! ;-)
Hi Russia! :-)
Is there a way to set up the 16 pads to just 16 common chords? I'm trying to play Savannah Grass by Kes, and the chord progression is Eb-Cm-Bb-Ab.
what sound of massive are you using in 4:11??
Baseball
I just bought "big" mk3, but I see, that I use more of "hybrid" mode. I record with harware, but rest of things like sounds, steps, library etc. I click on mouse i Maschine PC software. Do you think, the mikro mk3 i dsigned for this kind od use?
In Pattern settings, what's position, start, length and bank?
Why can't I get my Massive plugin sounds to preview with the scroller wheel like this?
I wonder if they have added the previews yet. Check Native Access for an update.
@@SanjayC Thanks! Yeah I ended up figuring this out last night. The audio previews weren't available in my Native Access for some reason. Had to go find the DL link online. All good now. Just got my Mikro by the way. Finding your tutorial super helpful.
Brendan Ford nice! Glad you figured it out!
the root note is always on pad one i suppose. But how do i know which notes are on all the other pads?
If you’re using the scale function, yes. The other pads are all the other notes in that scale. Basically other notes that will sound good.
Gute Arbeit Kumpel! Ich wünscht mir Tutorial Videos zum Akai Mpc live.
Great work my friend. I wish tutorial videos about Akai Mpc live. ❤
I wish I owned the MPC live...maybe one day!
Can you use this with any native instrument? I want to buy this almost solely to use with the "Discovery Series Collection". Can I do that or use it only with Maschine sounds?
You can use any Native Instruments plugin with this. Even the Discovery Series Collection.
@@SanjayC Thank you!
Thank you for the video ! Question does all the patterns and the project setup gets stored in Mikro or saves it in software? What I am trying to find out if I can use Micro as sequencing hardware with the ipad
Hello I'm an ableton user and wish to use the features on the controller inside on ableton.. Is there any way to seamlessly integrate it all?
You can run it as a plugin inside Ableton. You will get all the features.
