Aside from the obvious colossal amount of technique displayed here, the more you listen, the more you hear simple, beautiful phrases that are just pure gold. So slick, so clever, so creative, so hip...Zero jive... Just incredible... There will never be another Michael.
Absolutely! I feel like I need a few more pairs of ears to grasp how much amazing things are going on there, it's too much for me to catch it all, I can hear this 10 times in a row and still find even more hidden treasures every time I do. BTW, Joey doesn't stay behind, his piano work is amazing too!
Hard to find the words to describe this performance. One could make a lifelong study of this one performance. It encompasses every aspect of complete mastery of the instrument.
this cat was always such a nice man in person met him many times over many years always looked forward to seeing him again I miss him when im down i hear him he picks me up i smile thank you Louis
Michael Brecker was and still is unique - and a very humble guy at the same time. I once was in the audience when he played a great solo, the audience applauded big time but he was not satisfied with his own performance and made a gesture like: no, no, that wasn´t good at all. Mike Stern once told about his horror when he had to play a solo right after Michael. And I guess most musicians felt just the same.
Absolutely beautiful ........... I could listien to this a thousand times and hear something amazingly different each time .... Brecker's love and devotion to his craft is incredible - you are truly missed Maestro .......... there will never be another you ....
I'd not seen this version before, Louis. You are a star for posting it. Saw him play this live once...audience full of sax players, hanging on to his every note (me included)...
It hurts me to think that someone so beautiful who gave so much and who possessed the ability to rescue the soul and bring it to joy and bliss as he did is gone. I thank him for every heartfelt sound that he left for us.
I have this on VHS recorded from VH1's New Visions program. Still never got it transferred to DVD. Thank you for posting it. I have been checking youtube for years for this performance. One of the best Brecker performances you could ever see.
@@ewi4000 Awesome! Through the years I have known about you, I have envisioned a Michael Brecker library, similar to what is done for US Presidents. A place where people could go and look at notes, pictures, and videos spanning his entire career. I know I would visit such a place! Thank you for your continued efforts to share the magic of Michael Brecker with the world!

So aptly stated. 🎯

Let’s not forget to give Joey the credit he deserves here.
Absolutely! Only 23 years old playing like that with Mike on TV...a perfect duo.
His tone here... Might be my favorite era, '87-'90.
with you on this, so much projection and fatness... amazing
Agreed!!
Surely doesn’t suck!
I'm a trumpet and trombone player, but I just love the sweet sound of a tenor sax. Played like this it just gives me goosebumps.
his tone his sound his timing his compositions his special approachment his ideas ,,this kind of people never dies ! !
Holy sh*t! Brecker can take it way outside and still make it sound soulful and delicate... and with a technique second to none
I miss him. I am a forever fan.
Simply wonderful...both musicians...
My favorite song, my favorite musician, and my new favorite video. A hidden gem.
Amazing Calderazzo too, only 23 years old!

I love Sanborn’s quote of it being like “a scorched earth with one little Bb left in the corner”, and he never wanted to follow again!
Brecker is epic and he makes it look effortless. One of the greats.
Many tone colors . And never expected this from Becker. A rounded whisper like altissimo is not easy. This is master lesson in dynamics as well.
if there is a soul, it is in Mike's sound. true master.
