Yes Sir...I have him tattooed onme...cover if don't try this at home...Randy B actually judged me n band at UIL competitions in high school. I'm a tenor n baritone sax guy n clarinets n flutes n EWI n keyboards.
I can't believe Brecker's power being funneled through his horn. So much power. Starts from the VERY SECOND he brings the band in. IMHO I hear his sound as the absolute quintessential saxophone sound. Unbelievable.
I agree fully with your opinion on his sound being Thee Sound. and MAN there's this really low, really dark note that it dips into every now and then, I could never find better words to describe it other than that it sounds powerfully violent and dangerous, but gives the whole instrument such a beautifully dynamic character.
@@bradlucid I wholeheartedly agree! His sound is so “alive” - it demands and captures your attention. I don’t know… there may never be another one like him. ☹️
I'm not one of them who disapproved this, but I can understand them partially. Although many people seem to like what Stern is doing here (and everywhere else), I absolutely hate it. Same repeated standard phrases played with that disgusting (for me) chorus tone, finished by (in this context) senseless Jimi-like screaming. In my opinion it just ruins that absolute beauty and pure fusion mood, created by Brecker here.
1:08 Michael Brecker (12 choruses) 4:55 Mike Stern (14 choruses) 9:12 Joey Calderazzo (12 choruses) ...I have too much time on my hands. I think I've literally devoted nearly a day's time over the last 8 years to watching this.
I've been on a Stern kick lately and I've been listening to this everyday...these guys are well beyond just being on fire!!! RIP Jeff Andrews...such a phenomenal player!
Hi, I've seen every great player in the world many of them live. From Ellis Marcellus to Paco De Lucia and every great pop, jazz, rock ,metal player in the world. I've never seen anyone climb a higher musical mountain than that piano solo. I'm not bragging, I have played classical and jazz for many years and been around, I KNOW music. I'm just a little older and have seen a lot, this truly is one of the best hyper sonic jams I've ever seen. I saw return to forever on their brief reunion with Jean Luc Ponty and Frank Gambale so that was close to this especially with Stanley Clark and Chic Corea. They did not have Michael tho, trust me this one is it.
Absolutely fantastic performance - thank you for sharing! I've been looking for Michael Brecker Band videos for years - and these are brilliant! More please!!
12:30 that's a man leaving everything on the stage... WOW. Even the audience realizes it. The only one to receive an ovation DURING his solo, not after.
Mi pianista preferido (de ese estilo). El público sintió la energía, y J. Calderazzo es un MAESTRO en eso. Y el detalle de, MB 1º solo , MS 2º y el piano de último, lo dice todo.
I have been watching a ton of these videos lately and this one is absolutely in a league of its own. This band is *always* amazing and this performance is on another level even for them!
Michael slept and thought about Jazz - practically playing the horn in his sleep. Hawkins . Parker . Brecker . *Carter What of Sal Nestico (RIP)? Michael is an orchestral rhythm section when he is in motion, tenor saxophone in hand. What of Christ Potter, Joshua Redman and Wayne Escoffery?
"scariest place in the world- onstage having to follow a michael brecker solo" pat metheny
Yes Sir...I have him tattooed onme...cover if don't try this at home...Randy B actually judged me n band at UIL competitions in high school. I'm a tenor n baritone sax guy n clarinets n flutes n EWI n keyboards.
Btw not many know..Mike could cut up a bit on drums....God Bless the Saxophone Jesus.... a fuckin MONSTER
Ce n'est pas pat Metheny qui joue mais son meilleur pote...
I think it might have been a Charlie Parker quote that perfectly defines this performance: "We lit the fire, we greased the pan, and we COOKED."
So this is the level at which all all musicians hope and wish they could achieve. What a killer group.
Brecker was and still is one of the best of all times. His dominion over harmony and the instrument is 2nd to none...the guy was a beast...
6 years ago.. it still is today.
Man we all know the greatness of Joey Calderazzo, but still, the way he holds his own after all the solos... Damn!
Especially at this...relaxed tempo!
I can't believe Brecker's power being funneled through his horn. So much power. Starts from the VERY SECOND he brings the band in. IMHO I hear his sound as the absolute quintessential saxophone sound. Unbelievable.
Scott Baiar absolutely the quintessential sound
I agree fully with your opinion on his sound being Thee Sound. and MAN there's this really low, really dark note that it dips into every now and then, I could never find better words to describe it other than that it sounds powerfully violent and dangerous, but gives the whole instrument such a beautifully dynamic character.

wowwwwww, my God, amazing band. I wonder those 20 people that disapproved of this on RUclips???
This is one of the best videos I ever saw in my life.

What a master of the saxophone..
And off to the moon. And if Nussbaum wasn't chewing that gum, none of this would be possible. Thanks Adam.
GD man, this is insane! What a mind blower. All excellent solo's and what a killer tempo!
