Two other brands I hear about a lot are Bounce Curl and Innersense. I believe with Innersense you can get travel sizes which is great for trying a product. Maybe some day you can try these 2 brands.
I have to say that my hair is extremely sensitive with shampoo and conditioner and LUS BRANDS is AMAZING on my hair, since I am using this product my hair totally has changed for better. 100% recommended.
LUS is my holy grail. I have 2c/3a fine, low density hair. I don’t like a tight curl because it makes me look like I have less hair. LUS is not meant as a curl enhancer, but to only work with your natural curls to make them pop. I also use it only on soaking wet hair in the shower. A little bit of all 3 in this line is the best way to use it. I mostly use the curly, but when I do want more definition or need some protein, I will mix it with the kinky coily. My wash lasts about 3 days which is usually all I want it to last. Longer than that grosses me out. So I think what someone wants as the end result has a lot to do with whether you like LUS or not. I like a softer, less defined curl so it works for me. Someone who is used to a tighter, boingy curl probably won’t like it. Goes to show how not only is our hair always different, but so are our expectations. Thanks for reviewing this product. I loved it on your curls.
You sound like the people that work there, I have had so many issues with this product and every time they basically tell me it’s because I don’t like my curls enough and I’ve gotten too accustomed to defined curls! Interestingly though, In their advertisements, the curls always look exactly the way I would like mine to!
mel, i'm 17 years old and my entire life i've been told to hate my curls. i found your channel about a week ago and you've both helped me so much. i have a curl pattern just like amanda's and people have told me all my life that i should straighten my hair more. thanks to you and your SEESTER i've really started to love my curls so much more and i appreciate it so much!! you've both seriously changed my life! i've started using aveeda, got a diffuser, and the same bonnet you use and it's really fixed my hair so thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Great review! I have been using the LUS products for about 15 months. I have type 3c/4a high density, high porosity ( color treated ) hair. The shampoo and conditioner work well and I find the shampoo to be good and clarifying. The conditioner is a take it or leave it for me( not the best). I use the Kinky coily all in one and add on a gel ( either kinky coily, girl with curls , earthtones naturals gelly or joico i.c.e) my hair lasts 4 days max with that combination.... Definetely need to add hold but all in all the products are great. I am a Toronto resident and im in favor for supporting a fellow Canadian curl entrepreneur. Thanks for your thorough review Mel!
Wish I saw this two years ago! I live in FL so humidity is a killer. I have a wavy texture… my hair frizzed so bad! Definitely didn’t feel like it was a one and done product.
I love this product line. It was the first one I tried when going curly, which has only been about 4 months. I loved it then but for whatever reason started buying tons of other stuff. Went back to LUS a few weeks ago and fell in love again. Other than a little oil at the end because my hair is dry and live in the desert - that is all I put in my hair. I'm giving away the rest of the stuff I bought....
Anna Lauryn I was going to say the same thing! I was watching you wash your hair and you really didn’t wash your scalp, hence leading to the oily scalp you were feeling later.
Can you please do a workout hairstyle and hair maintenance video?! I need to know how to maintain good curls while working out daily and... do I wash it everyday? Every other day? CGM got me all confused girl, I need guidance!!!
I just started using LUS and I really like it. I have 2b-c, 3A curls, fine hair. You really don't need much product when using LUS, perhaps you had too much and that's why you got the oiling feeling. I do have an oily scalp but haven't found LUS to exacerbate it. I LOVE the smell of LUS, so light and baby fresh. I do think I'll start using a gel with it though, as it doesn't really have any hold.
I use the LUS brand and absolutely love it! I only shampoo my scalp and then rinse. When I condition I leave it in for about 3 to 5 minutes and then add a little water before I detangle. (The product works best with water applied... my hair slides right through the denman brush or wide tooth comb). After rinsing all the conditioner out (it's not meant to leave in) I section my hair while still in the shower and add 3-4 pumps of the All in One product per section (like 6 sections total). Once I am all done I plop it in a cotton turbie towel thing (bought at walmart) Then I finish my shower routine. One I get out I take the turbie thing off and scrunch out any excess water and product with a tea towel or flour sack towel "how ever you know it to be called" (also bought at walmart) and then diffuse the way you have shown us in one of your amazing videos! Thank you for that by the way :) I can go about 4 to 5 days without washing and I still have great hair. I do a refresh routine though by using 1 pump of the All in One and 2 pumps of water from my flarisol spray bottle in the palm of my hand and rub it together... then I run it over my hair from top to bottom where it needs it and give it a little scrunch (I probably use between 3 to 4 pumps of product total for my refresh for my entire head of hair) I air dry for a few minutes and then scrunch and go!!! I have hair like your "seester" Amanda but my length is just to my shoulder blades. The best thing is that even after adding product for refreshing daily until wash day again... I don't ever feel like I have product in my hair and it has definition and bounce! I use the wavy All in One. Thank you so much for your videos!
I saw when u washed ur hair, that u didn’t scrub the scalp, unless u did off camera? Mayb that’s why it’s oily but it looks nice on 3rd day.... for me....
If u spray your hair with a combo water bottle of water and 2pumps of all in one product and spray your hair not to your root on day two three and even four and then scrunch your hair and then move on about your day to get the definition back. Granted I have wavy hair that is soft I don't know what numbers you would call it but the product works for me and I get 4 days out of it which is impressive for me.
I really like this line😌 been using it for months and my coily hair ❤️ it. If you don’t like that crunchy, hard feel of gels the all in one is the ish. I use all three formula’s depending on what I want. The Wavy and Curly kinda give me the same feel & look. The kinky -coily gives me a slightly tighter curly look. I get 3 day hair from these products which is amazing for me😌 I love not having to use a whole lot of products to style my hair so this does it for me. Your hair looks nice but you have a softer curly hair type than me so I see where u may want something with a little more hold. I also want to add that I find when I use the all in one in the shower on soaking wet hair my coils come out much more defined. The only drawback of this line is the price in my opinion but it works for me so I will continue to purchase. Thanks for your review. I have been using LUS for two years. I love it. You have to use it for a few weeks to get the full benefits. I have wavy hair and use the wavy all in one. It makes my hair curly and it holds all day. I am able to wash my hair every 3 days and the curl stays put. You can message them a pic on their Facebook page and they’ll tell you what all in one to use. I think it’s the best product I’ve ever used.
I bought it last week because I read so many good reviews... just tried it today and my hair is being plopped with their plopping towel, keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out nice. I also bought their brush but I don’t like it at all, I like my Wet Brush better. Oh well.
I finally luv my curls because of this product. You need to rinse the conditioner out with cool water that why your scalp was oily .it’s hard to wash and shampoo hair in a sink. Your hair type you need the kinky coily type for more gold☺️
I have 2c-3b curls, medium porosity. I’ve come to the realization, if Mel and Amanda, the seesters, use it and it works, then I’ll use it. My go Styling products are Aveda be curly cream with the confixor gel, the Aveda flax seed and aloe gel, those are staples in the seesters routine. I also like the Verb curl define cream that they reviewed last week. One they haven’t reviewed but works great for me are Giovanni foam and gel together. I also plan on using the AG mousse gel during the cold Chicago winters. My daughter and I are hard core fans of the seesters. And our hair resembles their hair, so we will follow Mel all the way!
Manes by Mell I remember when I had no idea curls can go up to a week. And I used to have the most horrible build up at the scalp level. Gross.... now that I know better, I DO BETTER
Thank you for reviewing this product, I was debating about purchasing this product. My curls reject every product, my ends have a looser curl pattern. I spent a lot of money over the year, trying find that one product.
The curly formula doesn't have much hold at all, and when I use it I need a gel. When I use the kinky/coily, I don't need a gel because if applied correctly, you can get a nice cast without gel.
I've been using LUS for about 2 years. I LOVE it!! It takes some trial and error to get it just right for your hair, but once I found the right technique for my hair, it's SO good!! I have 3B hair. I have a ton of hair, but it's fine. I can go 4-5 days without washing. I sleep with my hair in a pineapple. I use a spray bottle with 3 pumps of the leave-in to refresh.
Lus worked so well for my daughter’s hair! Her hair is a little bit more curly than the girl on the video. Wearing lots of ponytails was making her hair less curly and this product was perfect for her.
Wow, I think your “after” looks great! Especially still looking that good on day 3! I LOVE the LUS products. It’s surprising so many people on here are saying it didn’t last for them - my experience has been the opposite. I can’t believe I can still wear my hair down on day 3 without doing any refresh. I used Aveda Be Curly for over a decade and was happy with it (Until trying LUS I didn’t realize anything could do a better job!) and I used to almost always have to put my hair up on day 2 and 3 and then wash again on day 4 bc the curls had lost their definition and got frizzy (I’ve never used gel bc I hate looking like I have product in my hair. Any kind of crunch or wet look is a no-go for me.). Now with LUS my curls are so much bouncier and defined and still intact for many days - defined and frizz-free but so soft!! I sound like an ad. 🤣 I have tried both Curly and Wavy and either one works well for me. Wavy maybe gives a bit more volume. I tried mixing them and that worked even better. (I have fine hair but lots of it, not sure if my number/letter - how do you figure that out?) I once tried the all-in-one without using their shampoo & conditioner, and it was not nearly as good! My stylist was amazed at how good my hair looked when I switched to LUS last year. Anyway, just wanted to throw on a positive word in case others on here are deciding. I know you say it’s not your favorite, but I think it looks great on you so the title is a little deceiving as I was expecting some unattractive result on you! 😆
Sara T - yes! I never realized what a difference that makes - I always thought it was all about the finishing product, but I tried it without their shampoo & conditioner, and the result was really not as good. I always use all 3 of their products now. They feel so good in my hair, too - sooo silky!

I have tried many shampoos and conditioners over the years, and , I always seem to go back to LUS. Their new gel is a game changer. My hair is fine, curly / wavy and long.
I have similar hair too. I love the shampoo and conditioner. I switched and came back. It’s so much easier to work my hair after cleansing and the conditioner actually makes my hair feel soft and not tangled and dry. I have just ordered the gel and deep conditioner to see if this will help my curl care and hold. I’d love to see a review from Mel!
I decided to give LUS a try this year. I ordered their curly hair products. I also want to try Bounce Curl, and Aveda, but maybe I'll have to put that off. I love CurlSmith and placed an order to try a few more of their products. I feel like I'm going overboard on curly hair products this season and I need to chill. LOL
My opinion on lus. It has saved my hair because my hair was very tough tangled and not very healthy. After I used lus it has made my hair softer, healthier and defined my curls. I've seen a lot of comment about it not working on them. But just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it wouldn't work for other people.
They just came out with a gel that you might like paired with their leave in Personally the leave in by itself did nothing for my fine low porosity looser curls. I have a 2c-3b type for reference Edit: used it with the gel and get amazing results. It pairs really well.
@@cathylynn57 I haven't been having great results from their all in one lately, but I took a chance on the gel and I LOVE it! It still refreshes well with water for day 2 and 3 as well. Good splurge!
I've been using the LUS line for about 8 months and so far, it's my favorite line for curls at lot better then Deva Curl. Using the Wavy formula. The All in One - Step 3 is definitely a trial and error thing. The first time I used it, I put way too much in even though I was going by what other users recommended. It left my hair looking greasy at the top and the curls were flat (just like if you use too much mousse or gel). Next time, I did a combo of raking and the praying hands method with 2 rounds of 5 pumps each and it was so much better! Air drying and diffusing give different results. My favorite and which gives more volume is to diffuse the roots for about 10 minutes then let it air dry the rest of the way. Day 3, refresh with water and All in One that has been mixed in a spray bottle. I can get to day 4 that way, but then it all goes down hill from there as my hair starts to lose curl and the roots start to show oil. The only thing, if it's humid, I get frizz no matter what. I have yet to find any product that can combat the East Coast humidity. Suggestions?
I have short wavy/curly hair and I’ve been using the curly all in one lus for about a year and I’ve been really happy with it. I got a perm almost two years ago and this has been my favorite out of about ten styling products. I wash my hair about every 3-4 days and I don’t really have to do anything to it in between washes. I was really happy to see one of my channels review it ☺️
Bought the travel set of LUS for my daughter. It really dried her hair out. I decided it try it for me and my scalp hurt. The first day it was like when you have pulled your hair into a pony tail to tightly. I couldn't recall having done that, but just assumed maybe I had. Day 2 it still hurt and I knew I hadn't had it up so I washed it on day 3 with my normal products and it felt soooo much better. I see nothing in the list I'm allergic to, so I have no clue what caused the issue. I also started breaking out with acne around my hairline.
I agree the shampoo and conditioner are good. But the leave in was a complete fail in my hair. Really wanted to like this as all the reviews where amazing. Tried it 4 or 5 times different ways but it actually made my hair frizzy and straighter. ☹️
I would love to see you try Innersense Beauty Organic products for a month it changed my hair! My hair no longer repels water, I can get 5 days out of my hair instead of barely 2, my hair is strong, & I don't have to worry about protein moisture balance, this keeps it in check. All in all, it's a wonderful line & I don't want to try anything else. I would love to hear your thoughts & see the changes in your hair ;)
I bought the LUS set about a month ago, and I love, love, love the shampoo and conditioner! I like the all in one styler, but I also find it doesn't have enough hold. My hair is wavy to curly, on the courser side and low to medium density. I've been using the wavy styler with a gel or a mousse, which is working really well, but I'm wondering if I got the curly styler, if that would hold better. Maybe something to experiment with! :)
I definitely do better with the curly styler (I'm mostly 3A), but I'm finding that it could use more hold this summer. Which gels and mousses have you had success with?
@@kateamarlow I've had a lot of success with the Deva Curl gel, and I'm now trying out the Herbal Essences gels. I also use and love Cake mousse. About a week ago, I started doing the mousse/gel/mousse technique, and it seems to work really well on my hair!

Very informative and fair review. Because you asked...I have been using LUS for a few months and I really love it! I actually appreciate some of the features that you didn't like. I like that it doesn't have any curl enhancing capabilities, because I have been trying to just see and style my curls as they actually are, not as a curlier version. I also find my hair sort of sticky when I use a product with hold, not sticky to the touch but like it sticks to itself and get knots and tangles very easily, especially at the nape of the neck. I find my hair basically never gets tangled now and is just lovely and soft.
Ok, but she would have had much better luck had she used the kinky coily formula. Her hair looks like the curly isn’t quite enough. Plus, the kinky coily has a bit more hold, so she would have liked it much better. I’ve loved LUS brands for a couple months. My hair is 3a-3b and the curly formula works INCREDIBLE for it❤️ For me, it really is an all in one, and so quick and easy. Loved the video though, the seesters are amazing!
K so my little one has similar curl type, I was thinking I'd buy both curly and kinky all-in-one for her and kinda mix em up, sounds like that will be a good approach?
I’ve been using LUS brands curly for about a year. I have a 2c3ab (crazy, day dependent pattern). My hair is very thick and coarse. I really like the shampoo and conditioner. It gave me the typical shampoo feel without stripping. I’ve tried cowashing and I’ve just never really like how it felt while washing or the results. I definitely does not give you much of a cast which I was looking for, but after having watched your protein v moisture video(and using a store brand keratin conditioner cause I ran out of LUS) I think my hair could use a little more balance. I also found it interesting about the glycerin - I had no idea about it encouraging outside moisture which would explain why my hair tends to frizz with this product if it’s humid. Overall I like it (obviously, since I’ve been using it for a year). They also have an oil and deep conditioner that I may try but I’ll probably need a protein added in. Thanks for all your great knowledge!!

My whole life I’ve had short curly hair, I’m going to start to grow it out and you really helped me with learning how to maintaining my hair. It’s usually supper frizzy and I hope it stops because I just ordered many of the products you mention in ur videos! I’m only 12 and I’m so happy I found you sooner then later. I've been using LUS for a little over two months and I've been very disappointed. I have rather fine wavy hair. It used to have much more defined curl before I started growing it out. I was looking for something that would give me a bit more curl definition and less frizz. LUS does none of that. My hair feels dry and frizzy even when only washing it once a week. Despite experimenting with different techniques using the all in one styler the results are always a frizzy mess. If you have fine hair, don't waste your money.
Amen, Mell. Medium porosity, medium density, fine, wavy here -- I used their wavy formula. Very soft hair, went mostly flat after using only these three products.
I use Lus and absolutely love it! One and done can and does work. It's all in the application of the product. Lus like any other products require trial and error. You need to find what works for you. Also, it lasts throughout the week without the need for a refresh. So as someone who actually uses these products on the regular I can attest that they actually DO work. A leave in conditioner, cream and gel are NOT necessary to have a good hair day/week. Plus, it's great to be able to support a Canadian female biz.
I just started using aloe vera gel as a leave in and styler. It is amazing! I do not get any extra buildup from it. For some extra hold, I add a little bit of Biotera alcohol-free gel. There's no serious crunchiness, but you get lots of hold, even without the Biotera. At least I did, and I've been trying all kinds of products. If you're interested, it's Majestic Aloe Vera Gel. It also comes with a mist, which is great for refreshing and hydrating curls. I got everything on amazon. Not pricey either. You can also buy the aloe vera plant and scrape out the gel. Glad for the review. I have wavy curl and crave to achieve definition without the frizz. How do you keep it looking great on day 3 or 4? I sleep on it one time and I look like Medusa.
me too! I have about 2c/3a/b curls and am always jealous of the women who make it last 3-5 days and I'm over here on the struggle bus at day 3. lol I try to remind myself that all curls are different but I know what you mean, girl.
I tried Lus curly last year, I did not like it at all for my hair. It looked beautiful upon blowdry, but within hours I was a huge fluff ball, had lost all definition. I did like the shampoo and conditioner, however the styler was a fail for me, no matter what I did. 🤷♀️
In my humble opinion your hair wasn't as defined as it can get or I've seen before... Sometimes, as well as I see now, the curls get more "broken" than curly, personally I think that's just so sad to see (especially on my hair), you know what I mean? The kind of broken "s "shape or as they turn left and half length they decided to change it to the right... :/
Boy, I would have considered your hair coily and your sister curly. Wavy is much more subtle than your sisters (IMO). Interesting how we interpret differently. But your hair looks fabulous! I wish those products would have worked for me , I’m a new mom and I don’t have a lot of time to take care of my hair, and as a fellow canadien I’m always looking to support canadien brand, but I had the worst allergic reaction to Lus curl. I had bought the 3 steps products plus the deep conditioner, and I had the worst allergic reaction to those. My scalp was so itchy and I lost a TON of hair. Luckily their customer service is on point, and I was able to get a refund!
Wow! I didn’t clue in that my itchy scalp was from this product. Sigh, I paid $60 for the conditioner...live and learn. I have a few products from sally that are cost effective and work fabulously!
Love you Mell but they actually do contain protein. In the moringa oil. It’s a property of moringa oil. Protein. It’s in the key ingredients description on the website too so I don’t expect you to just know but FYI and now they have an elixir oil which works great for refreshing. I love how soft my hair feels.
My hair looks ok , but I have no hold with this . I definitely need a gel or moose to give hold . Second day hair needs a huge refresh or even total wet down in the sink then start whole process again .
Do you have tipps on how to maintain the curl definition? When I wake up after washing my hair in the evening, my hair looks really good, but after go to work by bike (I need half an hour for that and it's really foggy), my hair looks really bad (especially on the dryer parts on my hair)
So I actually love LUS all in one...but I use it like a leave in. My hair is more like her seester's hair. Very long. Very thick, coarse and HIGH density. Those areas that typically dry out by day 2 and look frizzy, LUS fixes this! It's my very favorite leave in. The shampoo and conditioner is fine. Not great. Not bad. I ALWAYS use a gel over it!
I have the wavy all in one. I have fine wavy hair that gets weighed down easily. I use a salon quality shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair then two half-pumps of LUS wavy emulsified with a tiny bit of water raked through my hair. Then I use the denmen brush to distribute evenly and form clumps. Then I scrunch and scrunch again with a microfiber towel. I use a little bit of a light foam mousse on top for a little more hold, because you are right-the all-in-one does not have any hold. I diffuse for maybe 5 minutes but otherwise air dry. I really love LUS, but I definitely need the hold too!
I didn't like this product. I did the test on the LUS website, and it recommended I get the Curly all-in-one styler. I have 2C-3A, medium thick, frizz-prone hair, and this product weighed down my hair like a depression. My curls were flat and sad. On the bright side, I didn't have much frizz. Maybe the Wavy styler would have been better suited for me, but I don't want to spend the money to find out.
Hey Mell and Amanda. Great video as always. I have tried the Lus products and honestly did not like it at all. My hair is actually very similar to yours in density, porosity and curl pattern. My hair felt stiff and unmanageable. I tried it twice, thinking maybe I just needed to get all the other stuff out of my hair properly, but no. I ended up giving it away. My hair felt stiff, hard, dry. I'm waiting for my Verb products to arrive and am excited to try those. 😁
I wish I would have seen this before buying their reset kit. It makes my curls weighed down and look down right stringy and dirty. It makes it look greasy but feel dry at the same time. I’m not sure how that’s possible
I would like a video on what you like to put in your hair for protein. If you have a video I haven’t seen and sorry for asking. Also I fried my hair and really need that video. Like I’m at a 10 for like a 1
I have 3b/c hair and I could not continue using LUS brands due to the lack of longevity and quicker frizz. I did love the shampoo and conditioner though.
So I been using for 2 yrs and I should of stop sooner. Bcuz on roots started to go straight and my curls were weight down. So I went back to Cantu products and within 3 days of using that product my roots are starting to get curly again. I’m a 2C/3A
I know this is an old review... i have similar curl type Mel and i like using the Coil and curly mix of the "all in one" to get extra hold. I definitely need to clarify my hair because of the product build up.

OMG I didn't know you are Canadian. I was following you for so long and always thought you are in the USA and all the products you used from the USA, of course not the LUS brand.
In started the whole "embrace the curl" thing about 4 months ago after I was tired of fighting my hair. Straight, wavy, make up your mind! LUS was all over Facebook and a friend recommended it. I skipped their shampoo and conditioner (used my own) and just went with the all in one wavy formula. Life changing! Who knew I had these beautiful waves and ringlets? My 2B/2C hair is "normal" (though color treated cuz I'm old!) Not dry at all. Like ever. I don't need extra moisture, like ever. I don't need a ton of products in my hair which will just weigh it down - the all in one is what lured me to LUS in the first place. I have switched to the curly formula (more definition) but I'm finding I do need extra hold. And while I love the results I get from LUS on its own, I'm branching out and going to try a gel for hold. But I'm very happy with LUS. I appreciate your review and expertise!

Two other brands I hear about a lot are Bounce Curl and Innersense. I believe with Innersense you can get travel sizes which is great for trying a product. Maybe some day you can try these 2 brands.

LUS is my holy grail. I have 2c/3a fine, low density hair. I don’t like a tight curl because it makes me look like I have less hair. LUS is not meant as a curl enhancer, but to only work with your natural curls to make them pop. I also use it only on soaking wet hair in the shower. A little bit of all 3 in this line is the best way to use it. I mostly use the curly, but when I do want more definition or need some protein, I will mix it with the kinky coily. My wash lasts about 3 days which is usually all I want it to last. Longer than that grosses me out. So I think what someone wants as the end result has a lot to do with whether you like LUS or not. I like a softer, less defined curl so it works for me. Someone who is used to a tighter, boingy curl probably won’t like it. Goes to show how not only is our hair always different, but so are our expectations. Thanks for reviewing this product. I loved it on your curls.

You sound like the people that work there, I have had so many issues with this product and every time they basically tell me it’s because I don’t like my curls enough and I’ve gotten too accustomed to defined curls! Interestingly though, In their advertisements, the curls always look exactly the way I would like mine to!

Great review! I have been using the LUS products for about 15 months. I have type 3c/4a high density, high porosity ( color treated ) hair. The shampoo and conditioner work well and I find the shampoo to be good and clarifying. The conditioner is a take it or leave it for me( not the best). I use the Kinky coily all in one and add on a gel ( either kinky coily, girl with curls , earthtones naturals gelly or joico i.c.e) my hair lasts 4 days max with that combination.... Definetely need to add hold but all in all the products are great. I am a Toronto resident and im in favor for supporting a fellow Canadian curl entrepreneur. Thanks for your thorough review Mel!
Wish I saw this two years ago! I live in FL so humidity is a killer. I have a wavy texture… my hair frizzed so bad! Definitely didn’t feel like it was a one and done product.

I love this product line. It was the first one I tried when going curly, which has only been about 4 months. I loved it then but for whatever reason started buying tons of other stuff. Went back to LUS a few weeks ago and fell in love again. Other than a little oil at the end because my hair is dry and live in the desert - that is all I put in my hair. I'm giving away the rest of the stuff I bought....

I just started using LUS and I really like it. I have 2b-c, 3A curls, fine hair. You really don't need much product when using LUS, perhaps you had too much and that's why you got the oiling feeling. I do have an oily scalp but haven't found LUS to exacerbate it. I LOVE the smell of LUS, so light and baby fresh. I do think I'll start using a gel with it though, as it doesn't really have any hold.
I use the LUS brand and absolutely love it! I only shampoo my scalp and then rinse. When I condition I leave it in for about 3 to 5 minutes and then add a little water before I detangle. (The product works best with water applied... my hair slides right through the denman brush or wide tooth comb). After rinsing all the conditioner out (it's not meant to leave in) I section my hair while still in the shower and add 3-4 pumps of the All in One product per section (like 6 sections total). Once I am all done I plop it in a cotton turbie towel thing (bought at walmart) Then I finish my shower routine. One I get out I take the turbie thing off and scrunch out any excess water and product with a tea towel or flour sack towel "how ever you know it to be called" (also bought at walmart) and then diffuse the way you have shown us in one of your amazing videos! Thank you for that by the way :) I can go about 4 to 5 days without washing and I still have great hair. I do a refresh routine though by using 1 pump of the All in One and 2 pumps of water from my flarisol spray bottle in the palm of my hand and rub it together... then I run it over my hair from top to bottom where it needs it and give it a little scrunch (I probably use between 3 to 4 pumps of product total for my refresh for my entire head of hair) I air dry for a few minutes and then scrunch and go!!! I have hair like your "seester" Amanda but my length is just to my shoulder blades. The best thing is that even after adding product for refreshing daily until wash day again... I don't ever feel like I have product in my hair and it has definition and bounce! I use the wavy All in One. Thank you so much for your videos!
I saw when u washed ur hair, that u didn’t scrub the scalp, unless u did off camera? Mayb that’s why it’s oily but it looks nice on 3rd day.... for me....
If u spray your hair with a combo water bottle of water and 2pumps of all in one product and spray your hair not to your root on day two three and even four and then scrunch your hair and then move on about your day to get the definition back. Granted I have wavy hair that is soft I don't know what numbers you would call it but the product works for me and I get 4 days out of it which is impressive for me.

I really like this line😌 been using it for months and my coily hair ❤️ it. If you don’t like that crunchy, hard feel of gels the all in one is the ish. I use all three formula’s depending on what I want. The Wavy and Curly kinda give me the same feel & look. The kinky -coily gives me a slightly tighter curly look. I get 3 day hair from these products which is amazing for me😌 I love not having to use a whole lot of products to style my hair so this does it for me. Your hair looks nice but you have a softer curly hair type than me so I see where u may want something with a little more hold. I also want to add that I find when I use the all in one in the shower on soaking wet hair my coils come out much more defined. The only drawback of this line is the price in my opinion but it works for me so I will continue to purchase. Thanks for your review. I have been using LUS for two years. I love it. You have to use it for a few weeks to get the full benefits. I have wavy hair and use the wavy all in one. It makes my hair curly and it holds all day. I am able to wash my hair every 3 days and the curl stays put. You can message them a pic on their Facebook page and they’ll tell you what all in one to use. I think it’s the best product I’ve ever used.

I bought it last week because I read so many good reviews... just tried it today and my hair is being plopped with their plopping towel, keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out nice. I also bought their brush but I don’t like it at all, I like my Wet Brush better. Oh well.
I finally luv my curls because of this product. You need to rinse the conditioner out with cool water that why your scalp was oily .it’s hard to wash and shampoo hair in a sink. Your hair type you need the kinky coily type for more gold☺️

I have 2c-3b curls, medium porosity. I’ve come to the realization, if Mel and Amanda, the seesters, use it and it works, then I’ll use it. My go Styling products are Aveda be curly cream with the confixor gel, the Aveda flax seed and aloe gel, those are staples in the seesters routine. I also like the Verb curl define cream that they reviewed last week. One they haven’t reviewed but works great for me are Giovanni foam and gel together. I also plan on using the AG mousse gel during the cold Chicago winters. My daughter and I are hard core fans of the seesters. And our hair resembles their hair, so we will follow Mel all the way!

The curly formula doesn't have much hold at all, and when I use it I need a gel. When I use the kinky/coily, I don't need a gel because if applied correctly, you can get a nice cast without gel.

I've been using LUS for about 2 years. I LOVE it!! It takes some trial and error to get it just right for your hair, but once I found the right technique for my hair, it's SO good!! I have 3B hair. I have a ton of hair, but it's fine. I can go 4-5 days without washing. I sleep with my hair in a pineapple. I use a spray bottle with 3 pumps of the leave-in to refresh.

Lus worked so well for my daughter’s hair! Her hair is a little bit more curly than the girl on the video. Wearing lots of ponytails was making her hair less curly and this product was perfect for her.

Wow, I think your “after” looks great! Especially still looking that good on day 3! I LOVE the LUS products. It’s surprising so many people on here are saying it didn’t last for them - my experience has been the opposite. I can’t believe I can still wear my hair down on day 3 without doing any refresh. I used Aveda Be Curly for over a decade and was happy with it (Until trying LUS I didn’t realize anything could do a better job!) and I used to almost always have to put my hair up on day 2 and 3 and then wash again on day 4 bc the curls had lost their definition and got frizzy (I’ve never used gel bc I hate looking like I have product in my hair. Any kind of crunch or wet look is a no-go for me.). Now with LUS my curls are so much bouncier and defined and still intact for many days - defined and frizz-free but so soft!! I sound like an ad. 🤣 I have tried both Curly and Wavy and either one works well for me. Wavy maybe gives a bit more volume. I tried mixing them and that worked even better. (I have fine hair but lots of it, not sure if my number/letter - how do you figure that out?) I once tried the all-in-one without using their shampoo & conditioner, and it was not nearly as good! My stylist was amazed at how good my hair looked when I switched to LUS last year. Anyway, just wanted to throw on a positive word in case others on here are deciding. I know you say it’s not your favorite, but I think it looks great on you so the title is a little deceiving as I was expecting some unattractive result on you! 😆

Sara T - yes! I never realized what a difference that makes - I always thought it was all about the finishing product, but I tried it without their shampoo & conditioner, and the result was really not as good. I always use all 3 of their products now. They feel so good in my hair, too - sooo silky!

I have similar hair too. I love the shampoo and conditioner. I switched and came back. It’s so much easier to work my hair after cleansing and the conditioner actually makes my hair feel soft and not tangled and dry. I have just ordered the gel and deep conditioner to see if this will help my curl care and hold. I’d love to see a review from Mel!

My opinion on lus.
It has saved my hair because my hair was very tough tangled and not very healthy.
After I used lus it has made my hair softer, healthier and defined my curls.
I've seen a lot of comment about it not working on them. But just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it wouldn't work for other people.
They just came out with a gel that you might like paired with their leave in
Personally the leave in by itself did nothing for my fine low porosity looser curls. I have a 2c-3b type for reference

I've been using the LUS line for about 8 months and so far, it's my favorite line for curls at lot better then Deva Curl. Using the Wavy formula. The All in One - Step 3 is definitely a trial and error thing. The first time I used it, I put way too much in even though I was going by what other users recommended. It left my hair looking greasy at the top and the curls were flat (just like if you use too much mousse or gel). Next time, I did a combo of raking and the praying hands method with 2 rounds of 5 pumps each and it was so much better! Air drying and diffusing give different results. My favorite and which gives more volume is to diffuse the roots for about 10 minutes then let it air dry the rest of the way. Day 3, refresh with water and All in One that has been mixed in a spray bottle. I can get to day 4 that way, but then it all goes down hill from there as my hair starts to lose curl and the roots start to show oil. The only thing, if it's humid, I get frizz no matter what. I have yet to find any product that can combat the East Coast humidity. Suggestions?

I have short wavy/curly hair and I’ve been using the curly all in one lus for about a year and I’ve been really happy with it. I got a perm almost two years ago and this has been my favorite out of about ten styling products. I wash my hair about every 3-4 days and I don’t really have to do anything to it in between washes. I was really happy to see one of my channels review it ☺️
Bought the travel set of LUS for my daughter. It really dried her hair out. I decided it try it for me and my scalp hurt. The first day it was like when you have pulled your hair into a pony tail to tightly. I couldn't recall having done that, but just assumed maybe I had. Day 2 it still hurt and I knew I hadn't had it up so I washed it on day 3 with my normal products and it felt soooo much better. I see nothing in the list I'm allergic to, so I have no clue what caused the issue. I also started breaking out with acne around my hairline.
I agree the shampoo and conditioner are good. But the leave in was a complete fail in my hair. Really wanted to like this as all the reviews where amazing. Tried it 4 or 5 times different ways but it actually made my hair frizzy and straighter. ☹️

I would love to see you try Innersense Beauty Organic products for a month it changed my hair! My hair no longer repels water, I can get 5 days out of my hair instead of barely 2, my hair is strong, & I don't have to worry about protein moisture balance, this keeps it in check. All in all, it's a wonderful line & I don't want to try anything else. I would love to hear your thoughts & see the changes in your hair ;)

I bought the LUS set about a month ago, and I love, love, love the shampoo and conditioner! I like the all in one styler, but I also find it doesn't have enough hold. My hair is wavy to curly, on the courser side and low to medium density. I've been using the wavy styler with a gel or a mousse, which is working really well, but I'm wondering if I got the curly styler, if that would hold better. Maybe something to experiment with! :)
I definitely do better with the curly styler (I'm mostly 3A), but I'm finding that it could use more hold this summer. Which gels and mousses have you had success with?
@@kateamarlow I've had a lot of success with the Deva Curl gel, and I'm now trying out the Herbal Essences gels. I also use and love Cake mousse. About a week ago, I started doing the mousse/gel/mousse technique, and it seems to work really well on my hair!

Very informative and fair review. Because you asked...I have been using LUS for a few months and I really love it! I actually appreciate some of the features that you didn't like. I like that it doesn't have any curl enhancing capabilities, because I have been trying to just see and style my curls as they actually are, not as a curlier version. I also find my hair sort of sticky when I use a product with hold, not sticky to the touch but like it sticks to itself and get knots and tangles very easily, especially at the nape of the neck. I find my hair basically never gets tangled now and is just lovely and soft.
Ok, but she would have had much better luck had she used the kinky coily formula. Her hair looks like the curly isn’t quite enough. Plus, the kinky coily has a bit more hold, so she would have liked it much better. I’ve loved LUS brands for a couple months. My hair is 3a-3b and the curly formula works INCREDIBLE for it❤️
For me, it really is an all in one, and so quick and easy.

I’ve been using LUS brands curly for about a year. I have a 2c3ab (crazy, day dependent pattern). My hair is very thick and coarse. I really like the shampoo and conditioner. It gave me the typical shampoo feel without stripping. I’ve tried cowashing and I’ve just never really like how it felt while washing or the results. I definitely does not give you much of a cast which I was looking for, but after having watched your protein v moisture video(and using a store brand keratin conditioner cause I ran out of LUS) I think my hair could use a little more balance. I also found it interesting about the glycerin - I had no idea about it encouraging outside moisture which would explain why my hair tends to frizz with this product if it’s humid. Overall I like it (obviously, since I’ve been using it for a year). They also have an oil and deep conditioner that I may try but I’ll probably need a protein added in. Thanks for all your great knowledge!!

I've been using LUS for a little over two months and I've been very disappointed. I have rather fine wavy hair. It used to have much more defined curl before I started growing it out. I was looking for something that would give me a bit more curl definition and less frizz. LUS does none of that. My hair feels dry and frizzy even when only washing it once a week. Despite experimenting with different techniques using the all in one styler the results are always a frizzy mess. If you have fine hair, don't waste your money.

I use Lus and absolutely love it! One and done can and does work. It's all in the application of the product. Lus like any other products require trial and error. You need to find what works for you. Also, it lasts throughout the week without the need for a refresh. So as someone who actually uses these products on the regular I can attest that they actually DO work. A leave in conditioner, cream and gel are NOT necessary to have a good hair day/week. Plus, it's great to be able to support a Canadian female biz.

I just started using aloe vera gel as a leave in and styler. It is amazing! I do not get any extra buildup from it. For some extra hold, I add a little bit of Biotera alcohol-free gel. There's no serious crunchiness, but you get lots of hold, even without the Biotera. At least I did, and I've been trying all kinds of products. If you're interested, it's Majestic Aloe Vera Gel. It also comes with a mist, which is great for refreshing and hydrating curls. I got everything on amazon. Not pricey either. You can also buy the aloe vera plant and scrape out the gel. Thanks for the videos.

me too! I have about 2c/3a/b curls and am always jealous of the women who make it last 3-5 days and I'm over here on the struggle bus at day 3. lol I try to remind myself that all curls are different but I know what you mean, girl.
I tried Lus curly last year, I did not like it at all for my hair. It looked beautiful upon blowdry, but within hours I was a huge fluff ball, had lost all definition. I did like the shampoo and conditioner, however the styler was a fail for me, no matter what I did. 🤷♀️

In my humble opinion your hair wasn't as defined as it can get or I've seen before... Sometimes, as well as I see now, the curls get more "broken" than curly, personally I think that's just so sad to see (especially on my hair), you know what I mean? The kind of broken "s "shape or as they turn left and half length they decided to change it to the right... :/

I wish those products would have worked for me , I’m a new mom and I don’t have a lot of time to take care of my hair, and as a fellow canadien I’m always looking to support canadien brand, but I had the worst allergic reaction to Lus curl. I had bought the 3 steps products plus the deep conditioner, and I had the worst allergic reaction to those. My scalp was so itchy and I lost a TON of hair. Luckily their customer service is on point, and I was able to get a refund!
Wow! I didn’t clue in that my itchy scalp was from this product. Sigh, I paid $60 for the conditioner...live and learn. I have a few products from sally that are cost effective and work fabulously!
Love you Mell but they actually do contain protein. In the moringa oil. It’s a property of moringa oil. Protein. It’s in the key ingredients description on the website too so I don’t expect you to just know but FYI and now they have an elixir oil which works great for refreshing. I love how soft my hair feels.
My hair looks ok , but I have no hold with this . I definitely need a gel or moose to give hold . Second day hair needs a huge refresh or even total wet down in the sink then start whole process again .

Do you have tipps on how to maintain the curl definition? When I wake up after washing my hair in the evening, my hair looks really good, but after go to work by bike (I need half an hour for that and it's really foggy), my hair looks really bad (especially on the dryer parts on my hair)

So I actually love LUS all in one...but I use it like a leave in. My hair is more like her seester's hair. Very long. Very thick, coarse and HIGH density. Those areas that typically dry out by day 2 and look frizzy, LUS fixes this! It's my very favorite leave in. The shampoo and conditioner is fine. Not great. Not bad. I ALWAYS use a gel over it!
I have the wavy all in one. I have fine wavy hair that gets weighed down easily. I use a salon quality shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair then two half-pumps of LUS wavy emulsified with a tiny bit of water raked through my hair. Then I use the denmen brush to distribute evenly and form clumps. Then I scrunch and scrunch again with a microfiber towel. I use a little bit of a light foam mousse on top for a little more hold, because you are right-the all-in-one does not have any hold. I diffuse for maybe 5 minutes but otherwise air dry. I really love LUS, but I definitely need the hold too!
I didn't like this product. I did the test on the LUS website, and it recommended I get the Curly all-in-one styler. I have 2C-3A, medium thick, frizz-prone hair, and this product weighed down my hair like a depression. My curls were flat and sad. On the bright side, I didn't have much frizz. Maybe the Wavy styler would have been better suited for me, but I don't want to spend the money to find out.

Hey Mell and Amanda. Great video as always. I have tried the Lus products and honestly did not like it at all. My hair is actually very similar to yours in density, porosity and curl pattern. My hair felt stiff and unmanageable. I tried it twice, thinking maybe I just needed to get all the other stuff out of my hair properly, but no. I ended up giving it away. My hair felt stiff, hard, dry. I'm waiting for my Verb products to arrive and am excited to try those. 😁
I wish I would have seen this before buying their reset kit. It makes my curls weighed down and look down right stringy and dirty. It makes it look greasy but feel dry at the same time. I’m not sure how that’s possible

I have 3b/c hair and I could not continue using LUS brands due to the lack of longevity and quicker frizz. I did love the shampoo and conditioner though.
So I been using for 2 yrs and I should of stop sooner. Bcuz on roots started to go straight and my curls were weight down. So I went back to Cantu products and within 3 days of using that product my roots are starting to get curly again. I’m a 2C/3A
Would you recommend the Cantu shampoo/conditioner?
I got this recently (used twice) but I found that my hair looked/felt oily or greasy??? Yes it was soft, but I only found day 1 curls were nice.

I know this is an old review... i have similar curl type Mel and i like using the Coil and curly mix of the "all in one" to get extra hold. I definitely need to clarify my hair because of the product build up.

Liked the shampoo and conditioner but not the step 3, it felt like I put mousse on my hair. I wanted to have soft curls. They are all hard and no volume
OMG I didn't know you are Canadian. I was following you for so long and always thought you are in the USA and all the products you used from the USA, of course not the LUS brand.
In started the whole "embrace the curl" thing about 4 months ago after I was tired of fighting my hair. Straight, wavy, make up your mind! LUS was all over Facebook and a friend recommended it. I skipped their shampoo and conditioner (used my own) and just went with the all in one wavy formula. Life changing! Who knew I had these beautiful waves and ringlets? My 2B/2C hair is "normal" (though color treated cuz I'm old!) Not dry at all. Like ever. I don't need extra moisture, like ever. I don't need a ton of products in my hair which will just weigh it down - the all in one is what lured me to LUS in the first place. I have switched to the curly formula (more definition) but I'm finding I do need extra hold. And while I love the results I get from LUS on its own, I'm branching out and going to try a gel for hold. But I'm very happy with LUS.
