Have you ever done anything about moving on and healing after a traumatically hostile workplace? I am a magnet for bad workplaces and after the last few I had to just stay home and heal for a while. (Shoutout to my husband for supporting me in that). I'm honestly afraid to go back to work at this point though. Logically I know everyone isn't going to be that way, but it's still anxiety inducing. Also on that note, what are some things to look for to identify toxic workplaces and poor management BEFORE accepting the job?
I am a hiring manager, and this is so true! Every interview I enter, I just wish for the person to be THAT person which I am just going to hire. Honestly, conducting interviews is absolutely no fun (people are cool, but the way it eats your time is not). So nobody wants to not hire you if you were invited! And remember, it‘s not just us choosing you. You are also choosing.
Thank you for your comment it helped me to always remember that a rejection afterwards isn't ment personal but maybe someone else just fits this position better. Unfortunately I tend to take it a little bit personal and feel like the biggest failer ever. 😅
You make such a good job at explaining things to even someone like me in High school. You are truly inspiring and I hope you know that. I'm young but I still want to begin making a living for myself and help my family out. You make economics and other various topics so easy to understand and process, even for someone on my level of expertise (which is basically zero). Thank you for everything, Erin!! 🙏
You are interviewing them just as much as they are interviewing you. Never forget that. Ask pertinent questions, dig deep, know your rights, know your worth.
that is powerful!!! I'm saving this because I'm looking for another manager job, and I keep blocking myself from applying. My understanding is incorrect. Thank you!!!!
Interviews are also expensive for a company to do, as often the hiring manager isn't doing their normal responsibilities for that day. So they wouldn't waste money interviewing you if they didn't think you'd be right for the job
Thank you. This changed my mindset so much. I get so nervous that my mind goes all over the place and my mouth splutters out gibberish. I know I'm a great worker. I know I'm dedicated and quick thinking. I know my work ethic. I get so worked up in my own head, that I can't convince them of that. I have two interviews this week. Hopefully they'll go well and I'll get an offer at at least one of them.
Interviews are actually fine for me, I've only had one interview in my life where I didn't get hired. It's just getting TO the interview. I swear I sent out like 50 applications on indeed the last time I need to look for a job. I could easily have talked my way into a job if any of them had interviewed me.
As an interviewer I can confirm this is accurate. Don't forget to do your research on the company and pay attention to the role spec they advertise. This tells you exactly what they are looking for. Make sure you have examples of things you've done that relate to things on the job advert to show you have transferable skills.
Love your vids! I have an interview tomorrow, not for a job, but in the hopes of becoming an intern, so the ''they're hiring'' part doesn't apply. I'm pretty nervous, but trying to be confident since they were willing to interview me once I contacted them for an intern position!
And sometimes they have some computer system weeding out people who could do a really good job… but because buzz words aren’t in their CV air resume, they don’t get the opportunity and the company loses out. So don’t get discouraged if you don’t get an interview. A lot of the time, the people sorting out resumes don’t actually know shit about the position
The days before an interview practice mindfulness meditation, totally helps. And then an hour before the interview. The book "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels has some really good techniques.
@AdviceWithErin Hey Erin, can you do one about physical disabilities and trying to convince employers that i am able to adapt to a job during an interview. I feel like they always see the disabilities rather than my personality and actual skills. I cant manage to get a job due to this. Its not deliberate but, i feel like they cannot see past my disability ❤
She's talking about the interview. Not the application process. I agree on the ghosting though. And the scams. Most of the calls I've received in the last two years were scams. Only two were for actual jobs.
My country has a scheme that an employer have to interview reasonably qualified candidates if they’re disabled so it sucks wondering whether those employers actually like you or just don’t want to loose the badge they get with that scheme because some of them make it pretty obvious they don’t want you and I’ve heard some complain they have to make up lies to not hire the person because the only thing the recruiter didn’t like was a trait associated with the disability so they’re no allowed to say that.
I'm having trouble finding the remote job I want. I can't get to the interview process if I can't find the job I want. I keep hearing there are remote jobs available and yet I can't find them😢
Can you make a video like this for an audition? I have a casting for a non speaking role in a musical next week and I'm pretty nervous, since I've heard from someone they don't care about talent but more about if you fit the poule and already exsisting outfits, so I just need a lot of luck
I worked for a company that interviewed every single applicant. There didn't need to be a position. They had such high turnover that they just kept a list of people they'd hire when someone inevitably walked out. They didn't do any prescreening. The interview was the prescreening.
And that people, IS CONFIDENCE! You need to have it! She is right. If they didnt think you were a right choice, you wouldnt be meeting with them. Show them they chose right by selecting YOU!.
Good advice, but not always the case. Often, companies plan out the likely workload months ahead of time, and will need people hired and trained ahead of when the actual work is planned to kick off
And even if there is a perfect candidate, who knows if he has multiple offers. That's why, not only the interviewee has to have a good first impression the interviewer has to have one too ^^
🥲mam I just resigned few days back and was watching your videos I had my first interaction with a potential employer, this was the first company in this job hunt journey Got nervous while speaking And listening this today, made me smile Keep up the good work🧡
Could you suggest some ways to express that you're someone who's willing to learn? The kind of jobs that I'm applying for need people who will undergo training, but also has an interest in their work. I'm interested in their work but idk how to express that I'm willing to learn
Write just that in your cover letter!! That you’re ready, willing, able, and excited for new training and learning experiences. If possible, write in your resume any training you have done for previous positions.
Its nice to think about. But since the interviewer is getting paid to interview and you are there for free, it makes it easier for them to waste your time. They can call you in and put on a show while they hire their buddy.
But wven with tht I still fail on interviews I mean like I never get an interview only two times I got an interview both times I failed so what am I doing wrong and yes once I did say they were annoying but the second one I never said anything rude abt anyone y was I not given atleast a job I am so confused thts y still dont have a job and I am 22 so never will I guessing until someone please helps me
You are amazing!!! ❤
You're a beautiful person
No you are ❤ AHMAZING!

Its also nice to know you're in a negotiation, not a one way street. You need a job, they need a person.

I have an interview in a few minutes and I’m so happy I came across this short. It made my anxiety a lot better ❤
Hello! How was the interview? I hope it went well.. i started applying for jobs and I’m sooooo nervous for the interview !
Now this is what immediateky calmed my anxiety. I have a PhD interview in 3 hours. Thank you for your words ❤
Love how you reframed it. Thank you,, you make me feel more confident in myself 🙈💕

I’m saving this so I can play it on a loop before every interview.
thank you, my anxiety can get severe i needed this different perspective !
Gotta channel that chosen one energy

Thank you. I really need this ❤
Yeah... Getting that interview has been proving more and more challenging with each passing week
Don’t get discouraged. A lot of the time it’s some Bullshit computer program or a moron in HR sifting through the applications.
Thank you so much! This really made my night I have two interviews tomorrow so I’m very nervous. 😅
Thank you. This changed my mindset so much. I get so nervous that my mind goes all over the place and my mouth splutters out gibberish. I know I'm a great worker. I know I'm dedicated and quick thinking. I know my work ethic. I get so worked up in my own head, that I can't convince them of that.

This really really helps me! I have an interview tomorrow..and all I can say is wow!!! Thank you
This is such a wonderful way to look at it! I truly enjoy helping people and this way it feels lile I’m helping them 😊
I'm going to hopefully be doing a lot of interviewing soon. I needed this.
what an amazing pep talk, thank you! ❤

I wish O had watch this last week. I will save it. Thanks!
This is sooo true. We’re always desperate in our team when we’re recruiting 😂
What a fantastic piece of advice and excellent way to look at it! Thank you for posting this!

Your videos have been so helpful to me! Thank you for all you do!
Sometimes they interview everyone who applies, are just seeing who's out there and waste your time. (Typo edit.)
And sometimes they have some computer system weeding out people who could do a really good job… but because buzz words aren’t in their CV air resume, they don’t get the opportunity and the company loses out.

@@jh2471 Thanks. It happened a few times when I was younger. I guess it's all a question of balance.
Thank you so much 😭 I’m going to do an interview for my first job soon and I have been sooo anxious
Thank you so much for your work Erin! I am currently looking for a job, and your videos are incredibly helpful ❤😁
This is perfect. Thank you
The days before an interview practice mindfulness meditation, totally helps. And then an hour before the interview. The book "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels has some really good techniques.
in my mind it helps knowing i’m selling myself, this is a sales pitch, not an interrogation
@AdviceWithErin

That's a big assumption. A lot of companies are ghosting applicants now, to the point where I don't believe there was ever a job open.
She's talking about the interview. Not the application process.

Ur face really clean
I'm 60. I wish someone had said this when I was a teenager BEFORE a lifetime of scary interviews.
❤ that’s good advice
Oh wow thank you for this advice!

applying this to auditions
I would also add, practice the interview, try to answer 5-10 the most popular questions.
Good advice, but not always the case. Often, companies plan out the likely workload months ahead of time, and will need people hired and trained ahead of when the actual work is planned to kick off
Wowww best advice everrrrrrrr 👏👏👏
And even if there is a perfect candidate, who knows if he has multiple offers. That's why, not only the interviewee has to have a good first impression the interviewer has to have one too ^^
Can you do for highschool, please.

If there are a lot of person this kind of thought just vanish into thin air.Recently I went for an interview & the hr was so picky.
I have a bad habit of crying when I am passionate or tired. Any suggestions there?
Love it. But first I gotta land the interview.
Omg I’m early, great advice but first I have to be old enough 😂
Could you suggest some ways to express that you're someone who's willing to learn? The kind of jobs that I'm applying for need people who will undergo training, but also has an interest in their work. I'm interested in their work but idk how to express that I'm willing to learn
