The biggest problem that I have with the skinceuticals serum is not even the price itself, it's the fact that for that amount of money they can't use an airless pump bottle for the product, which is much safer for the stability. I mean come on, if 20 dollar serums can do it, why cant skinceuticals too?
100% all these high end & medical brands just care about making money sadly and for those who actually want the quality/stability to justify their money there are too many others among more stable options than insanely overpriced serums like it and being in a race to finish a product before you have to throw it in the trash. Feel same about IS Clinical. A quality formulation should not remotely be so absurdly priced and anyone into skincare and knowing how to read ingredients can always find better options from less flashy brands. Among there actually are C Serums that don't sting per having ridiculous ph levels and arent sticky like the many hyped out there have been for me even being so highly hyped. I am content not going for the strongest 20% pure l-ansorbic as I once was as I just have more sanity and enjoy gentle, stable, fuss free formulas more long term even with my skin not being generally sensitive! :)

This video is so professional I was shocked when I saw you only had 114 followers! Totally underrated, loved the video :)
i found out about that serum on tiktok and now i’m finding it under your video and cassandra’s video. i guess it is the real deal! i’ll definitely save up for this serum!!
If you use vitamin c in the morning it prevents, if used at night it repairs. UV damage still happens for hours after sun exposure so applying at night is justifiable. What I would do is use 10-15% vitamin c serums in the morning, and use higher percentages at night to help repair.
What is your background? Do you work in derm? Studied chemistry? Love it! I’m in PA school and worked in dermatology and I love your videos and the vocab you use!
Tyana BSN, RN great suggestion! I’ll add it to my to buy list (since I go through vitamin c serums really fast) and I’ll try and do an updated video of this when I do!
I heart Timeless! It stays stable much longer than advertised if you keep it on a refrigerator shelf.I think it’s because they use double the amount of ferulic acid that Skinceuticals does. If it’s too irritating i recommended starting out with their 10% serum. Then as you get used to it use the 20% three times a week.
Skinceuticals serum oxidizes after 3 month as well!!!! I have used CE Ferulic and Phloretin and Silimarin and all of them started to oxidize after 3 month. I will be trying Timeless after I run out of my Skinceuticals current vitamin C serum.
Skinceuticals has a lot of researches done by many dermatologists to back it’s up but they don’t do the air pump package like the Timeless. Maybe they’ve exhausted all money into marketing, so no fund left to improve the packaging 😂 😂 lol
I've had my Timeless serum for ages. I can't remember how long, but it's a lot longer than five months. I do keep it in the fridge, but I think it's much more stable than their use-by date suggests.
The meaty smell is just how vit C smells, from what I understand. If you aren't sensitive to fragrance/essential oils, Kinder Beauty has a CE Feurilic dupe that's great. The timeless one is vegan/cf also. And you talked about the irritation, but if you switch to the 10% instead of the 20% then it works well.
Subscribed !! Loved your energy 😍 Have you heard of the DRMTLY CE FURLIC serum?? It $66. It seems similar and I want to try it but I haven’t seen many videos on it 😞
Evelyn Berumen thanks!! No I haven’t seen it yet but if you’re interested in that one, I’d say check the ingredients to see if it’s also got l-ascorbic acid, vitamin e and ferulic acid and check the concentration of l-ascorbic acid and ph level to see how it compares! especially if you have sensitive skin
I've been using this one and like it, but I don't really have anything to compare it to. The ingredients highlights: l-ascorbic acid 15%, dl-tocopherol 1%, ferrulic acid .5%. Also, acetyl octapeptide-3 & hyaluronic acid.
@@CathyonSkincare Thank you so much for a great review! If you decide to review more vitamin C products, I'd love your thoughts on and your experience with the DRMTLGY product. Especially how it compares with Skin Ceuticals.
they definitely are for what they're selling. Especially their moisturizers, sunscreens, and HA+B5 serums. The only one that is anywhere near worth its price is the Vitamin C serum because they have the research to back it up. :D
Vitamin C in such strength it’s best at night cause it help collagen production is better at night reparative phase of the skin. There are other antioxidants to boost SPF defense functions at morning doesn’t need to be vitamin C...
Any thought about DRMTLGY vitamin C? It supposed to be a dupe too. And it’s $68. Still expensive but it’s a half price cheaper than skinceuticals. It’s also a medical grade too.
Such a great video! I am going broke having to keep repurchasing the Skinceuticals. It's just soooo good. Fingers crossed a dupe can replace it. Thank you!
Just tried the Timeless. I was disappointed. The consistency was too runny and yes it is irritating! You end up using too much because it’s so runny that it absorbs so fast and it irritates more. I did like the packaging though. I just ordered the Dr Brenner one because it supposed to have a more serum like consistency. If it’s too irritating I’ll try the Maylov next.
There's now a 10% option for people who find it too irritating. I don't and use the 20%. I don't mind the runny formula either. I just pump a couple of pumps into my hand and apply it to my face.
Dr. Brenner burned the shit out of my skin. :'( I was hoping it would be better than Timeless... I tried to use it on my body instead but it burned my skin there too! I don't understand bc the timeless one has a low pH (I've only tried the 20%) but it never irritated my skin, strangely enough.
You are wrong. Vitamin c is supposed to be used in the morning as it contains antioxidant which will in tandem with sunblock work to help prevent uv damage
Someone told me that it's the Ferulic acid component that makes it smell like hot dog water. So now....I always feel like my face smells like hot dogs for a minute after. Things could be worse...
I love skinceuticals and it feels so good to put on my face but did anyone else notice that this product turns the palms of their hands yellow (that’s where I put it then I pat it onto my face) I’ve only had it for 6 days and bought it from derm store so it’s authentic and not oxidized at all, it’s just very odd…
because that product doesn't have as many beneficial ingredients for the skin other than the vitamin C so it is considered as a dupe to these serums cuz they have 10 to 12 ingredients that super good for the skin and won't irritate it. hope this will clear ur confusion
Can anyone tell me how long you can use a bottle of skinceuticals for? I heard 3 months and that’s the only thing that’s stopping me from purchasing it 😩
You can't get any cheaper than my diy recipe: Put two tsp cosmetic grade ascorbic (vitamin c) acid powder into a two Oz dropper bottle with water. I got mine off Amazon. One little container lasts a long time. Store in fridge to keep it from oxidizing. My solution alway remains clear down to the last drop. My pH test strips says it has a pH of 1.5. If my calculations are correct, two tsp works out to about 18% ascorbic acid. Some people may have to lessen the percentage or buffer the formula depending on skin sensitivity. My skin has adapted nicely, but I also do a lot of glycolic acid which may have helped. Look up diy vitamin c serum on RUclips for more involved formulas. I have thought about adding kojic acid for additional defense against hyperpigmentation, although this ingredient is generally used in smaller concentrations than ascorbic acid.

I'm afraid that this video is mostly uneducated nonsense, but if people like it, they like it. I take with issue with the idea that skinceuticals somehow came up with the concept of a vitamin c + e serum which has been in products around for decades, or is necessarily more effective than its competitors or anything else you can get for a fraction of the price. It is actually outrageous to suggest that skinceuticals may have a patent on the relevant concentration, and puts their formula (which is nothing special) on a pedestal. You might as well have made a video saying "SUNCREAM DUPES TO THIS HALF DECENT $400 FORMULA"...other brands are not dupes, skinceuticals is a Veblen good with artificial demand. Second, I don't believe this video is correct on any of the key elements of effectiveness of c+e. The claim that l'ascorbic acid is true or pure vitamin c is nonsense. There have been studies with this type of vitamin c which have been effective, that is all and that is why it is in the products. What consumers need to look for in products with 15%+ l'asorbic acid, and 3% alpha tocopherol (the studied type of vitamin e). Skinceuticals actually has below the recommended amount at 1% and most products on the market all also have 1% because it is very cheap to formulate. Beyond that why this formulation works is apparently beyond you and the video - I see you have made a claim that vitamin c enhances the effectiveness of suncream. This is manifestly untrue and you have either made it up or misread the plethora of information which is widely available. Actually suncream destroys and blocks UVA particles before they enter the epidermis. However, suncream must be applied every two hours else it is rendered ineffectual and people usually do not comply to regular application of suncream in offices, schools and at home. Vitamin C+E synergistically at the concentrations specified work separately and completely independently to suncream and destroy harmful UVA particles after they have entered your epidermis - however those effects last 8-10 hours. That is why those concentrations are effective - as protection against the sun. Re packaging / shelf life / application, the formulation is unstable and should be in dark bottles, kept out of the sun, fridge, but if you are not regularly applying the product in the morning every single day, it has limited utility and a small bottle will go quickly. The advertised shelf life claims of skinceuticals and other brands should also not be taken at face value. Finally, the expectations of perhaps yourself, and certainly those who have interpreted the video in the comments, are out of sync with reality. As above, this is a product for sun protection - Vitamin C+E do not magically plump and create beautiful skin overnight, and indeed those effects are somewhat limited - the effects are seen over years and years through prevention of sun damage. Most immediate effects of products like moisturisers are usually very temporary and superficial (together with acting as a placebo) creating absolutely no anti-aging or long term benefits to the skin. Skinceuticals just contains a few cleansing agents and humectants like Pantheol which improves the texture of the product and ability to hold moisture, improving the look and feel of the skin superficially on a short-term basis. This is available in lots of products and has nothing to do with C+E.
