Man, I absolutely love it when the dunk just shares a piece of media he's genuinely passionate about. I love it when he's memeing through his teeth, but something about the more direct and analytical videos makes me want to write reviews like that.
Dunkey has referenced Akira Kurosawa’s “Yojimbo” and more obscurely, Ingmar Bergman’s “Persona” plus his pretty good review of Kubrick’s “The Shining” I’m pretty sure Dunkey knows a decent amount about film.
I don't understand why its surprising at all. Rubkey is a youtuber. All decent youtubers have to know about filmography, editing, writing, etc. plus, not only that, hes a game review channel so thats another arena of visual media with cutscenes, shots, narratives, and so on. Of course dunkey knows film. I bet most youtubers know film.
That's the beauty of Dunkey's videos. A lot of people here think he's just 24/7 "gamer" all day. They got confused when he would like the vile, evil "Last of Us 2", when it was actually a very ambitious and special game. Because he liked the story, while a lot of people were too angry to take it as what it was. Dunkey is a pretty smart guy, who likes a lot of different things. I think that's what makes life worth living. When you have multiple passions in the arts. Not just one medium or one style.
this is a French comedy from the 1960's, your are so dumb. To me or someone else of my own intellect, it is quite easy to see that this film is not a Japanese Role-Playing Game (J.R .P .G.), but rather a satirical criticism of metropolises and the robotic monotony of the office paradigm of the 20th century. I can not believe that there are people like you, you probably do not even understand "Rick and Morty"
I love this movie, so I rewatched it with my housemates. They really didn't care for it. I'm glad Mr. Video Gamedunkey reviewed it because this means I'm objectively correct now and legally the president
I scroll down into my suggested videos and see "Playtime". And I think, 'Wow, it's weird that RUclips would suggest I rent a Jacques Tati movie out of nowhere." And then I scroll down more and I see that, in fact, legendary RUclipsr/Rap Artist videogamedunkey is reviewing said 1960's classic French comedy film. I now know that not only will I watch literally anything Dunkey makes, I'm excited by the idea that Dunkey might make a video about literally anything. I'd watch the man throw cooked vegetables at a wall and be happy the whole time. Got nothing but love and respect for this man.
"If you show this movie to a thousand different people, they'll be zoned into a different corner of the action".... you might say there's truly something for everyone👌
Just want to drop a kind word in for Mon Oncle, which is like the adorable, sweet sibling of Playtime. Some thematic overlap and made similarly, but also just so vibe-y and jazzy and funny. There's a scene in Mon Oncle that I think made me laugh harder than anything else I've seen in a film, but it literally can't be described.
I really love the quiet moments in the film where we're invited into the most private, personal moments of a person's life and the transparent, voyeuristic windows rob them of any semblance of intimacy. It's a movie about being a spectator. We don't know anyone nor would we would ever, like the countless people you walk past.

I hope dunkey feels free to do more videos like this, he’s always passionate about the things he’s interested in. It’s enticing, beautiful, and inviting
I think it's because he's really passionate that these videos come out as enticing and beautiful. However if he just kept doing these videos all the time they would feel less so to the viewer and less so to Dunk himself. Its the age old dilemma of the age we live in where when we find something we like we desire more of it to the point of excess until that thing you enjoyed now dulls one's pallette thus moving on to the next inevitable alleviator of boredom.

2nd Comment: I'm so happy I watched this, somehow as a film student a professor has never recommended this film. Holy shit this is a really good movie, the fact that it can take a modernized society that almost feels dystopian and then end on such a positive note is amazing. I love how despite all of the chaos of the system falling apart, the machinations of man ending in ruin, it so easily could've ended with some cataclysm to throw itself on the pyre of trite Luddite cautionary tales, but instead, morning comes and mankind lives on, we live another day, streetlamps reach towards the sky like flowers about to bloom. We realize that the human race is destined to grow, trip over their own pretense of mastery, fall flat on their face, only to wake up the next morning and try again. It'sa.. It'sa.... It'sa Mastahpiece (chef's kiss.)
you're probably joking, but when I think about it more, you aren't wrong; the whole film is a collection of strands coming together, stories connecting and interlocking
This really makes you feel like the dark souls of nitpicking and biased strand type big bean burritos with a USB steering wheel when he spells "more dunkey"
Dunkey is hands down my favorite youtuber because he still embodies the actual spirit of young youtube, just doing whatever you want. i feel like so many people gear their content towards what they think the algorithm will promote or what they think their fans want. dunkey keeps it authentic by doing stuff he thinks is funny or making videos for things he enjoys and i really like that about him. if he ever sees this, i want him to know we see that, and we appreciate that. we love you for you dunkey. don't ever change

Favorite moment was at 5:03 when dunkey's VO got muffled when the door closed. Small but effective little editing moment that's very fitting with the topic
Having literally just watched the movie finally today, that bit of this video became even funnier since in-movie those doors are being marketed specifically on their sound-blocking quality and that they slam silently.
So I went and watched this after this video and it totally lived up to expectations. Thankyou for bringing this to your audience, it was a wonderfull film!
@@krislynn5965 The mention of it being a strand type film at 1:13 is the secret one they wanted us all to see. The one at 3:12 they put in purposefully trick us in to thinking it's not a strand type film. It's multi-layered film making

That was a better summary of Playtime than anything I could ever give. Please keep sharing niche stuff like this, because you're really good at boiling down a piece of media to it's essence so that people can gauge whether or not it's worth their time.
I recently rewatched this movie with my dad and got so much more out of it. The scene were the melted model plane undroops when the AC gets fixed made my dad and I both laugh out loud. Very rewarding to watch with someone else so we can help each other find the Where’s-Waldo-y sight gags. Thanks for the recommendation, Dunkey!
Man I love all of dunkey's insights. Whenever he makes a video like this it just makes me feel as if I have just gotten a lecture, but that I actually found fascinating and makes me yearning for more. Deconstructing a piece of art in such a maniacal manner is art in itself.
@@LegoDuck27 Oh seriously? I actually bought Odyssey because of him too. It's cool how one excited person can make you enjoy the experience more than you would've without seeing their excitement
it's really cool to see a big channel like Dunkey's shine the spotlight on a piece of media that is about as far from the orbit of most of his audience as it can be. My Grandmother showed me Tati's films when I was a child and I have not even thought about them is many years, this makes me want to go back and check them out again
Criterion Collection did a lovely job restoring much of his catalog, if you don't want to shell out for their wonderful boxset of all his films I believe they might have them on HBOMAX as part of their licensing deal with Criterion, so I'd look for them there
When other GaMeRs are on that BF6 hypetrain, Dunky is slanging some obscure movie. Legit unsubbed from so many people in the last year because their content is literal marketing hype and repetitive trash, but Dunky is elevating his audience - what a guy. I love this journey.
Don't give Kojima ideas lmao. I'd actually play a game made in this style made by him. Well, so far the closest one I can think of is Playdead's INSIDE.
The algorithms are gonna have a helluva time keeping up with a million people hunting down a French film with English subs from what I guess is the 70s.
I love the detail at 5:00 when Dunkey says confounding technology and the audio gets muffled when the guy closes the door. He really went as far as to replicate the beautiful subtleties from the movie into his review.
I was so confused for a long time like "Okay it's an interesting FMV game, but where are the input prompts?" I was like halfway through before I realized he's reviewing a movie
this movie is like a city management game everything is mostly a normal urban environment where your attention is being divided between a hundred different things at once, except occasionally, something weird and interesting is happening that infrequently grabs your focus away from the routine city management tedium and you're like "why the hell is Big Yoshi sitting on top of Big Ben", then you snap back 2 minutes later and realize you might've missed five other things back there that happened while your brain was away staring at Big Yoshi, so you try to collect yourself mentally while going through all your stuff to figure out if anything went wrong while you were preoccupied there's sort of a subdued urban chaos that occasionally hits a fever pitch when you aren't expecting it because a bunch of small stupid things begin to crop up at once, and before you know it you're wading through a post-apocalyptic scenario and it's impossible to comprehend anything anymore, so you inevitably say "that's it i quit" and restart from square one
A man of many trades, but not a Johannes Factotum. I was being fancy. Johannes Factotum is Latin for Jack of all trades, which would have fitted better any ways.

It'sa.. It'sa.... It'sa Mastahpiece (chef's kiss.)
the playtime torrents are healthy af right now. my bro has the criterion bluray collection, maybe i'll just borrow those.
lmao me on my way to proxybay rn
This movie was actually the first Strand Type movie
Knack 2 is the second type of dunkey video.
this is the strand type of dunkey comment section jokes
you're probably joking, but when I think about it more, you aren't wrong; the whole film is a collection of strands coming together, stories connecting and interlocking
This really makes you feel like the dark souls of nitpicking and biased strand type big bean burritos with a USB steering wheel when he spells "more dunkey"
3:12
that seems right
Dunkey is hands down my favorite youtuber because he still embodies the actual spirit of young youtube, just doing whatever you want. i feel like so many people gear their content towards what they think the algorithm will promote or what they think their fans want. dunkey keeps it authentic by doing stuff he thinks is funny or making videos for things he enjoys and i really like that about him. if he ever sees this, i want him to know we see that, and we appreciate that. we love you for you dunkey. don't ever change
Bring back among us Tuesdays
You nailed it. There are very few genuine RUclipsrs left these days, but Dunkey is absolutely the best example we have left of the old school RUclips that's long since gone extinct.
Actually Dunkey is done making good videos. This was his entry of Drama Mondays
@@LeGrosHanz he has a lot and I mean a lot of great videos. Just do a dive I guess.
I read this in Dunkey's voice
Dunkey: Hiding among the chaos

I adore this film, glad that you appreciated it too, Dunkey. The restaurant scene is just simply *chef's kiss* and such chaos never failed to make me laugh.
Favorite moment was at 5:03 when dunkey's VO got muffled when the door closed. Small but effective little editing moment that's very fitting with the topic
Thought it was a bit uneeded and distracting tbh
Whoa, what’s Alex doing here?
@@MothafuckinAmerica Why do you hate fun?
I just watched a video about oldroot yesterday and now I see you commenting
dunkeys sound editing is so underrated, he is so good at this
Donkey’s vocal edit at the end when the door closes is the bext part
Such a minor edit but so effective. Dunkey repeatedly blows it out of the water
I thought something happened with my phone at first lmao, that's awesome
Yup, classic Dunkey. He always adds that extra little detail. He did the same thing in his MGS videos whenever he was hiding in the cardboard box ha
Thats the kinda shit I'm here for haha
Having literally just watched the movie finally today, that bit of this video became even funnier since in-movie those doors are being marketed specifically on their sound-blocking quality and that they slam silently.
So I went and watched this after this video and it totally lived up to expectations. Thankyou for bringing this to your audience, it was a wonderfull film!
I love that you're able to stay a Hitchcock in a world of marvel superheroes and fast cars. You're an inspiration.
This can be categorised by most as the first strand type movie
They're even saying it in black and white at 1:13
@@JSmith19858 And at 3:12
@@krislynn5965 The mention of it being a strand type film at 1:13 is the secret one they wanted us all to see. The one at 3:12 they put in purposefully trick us in to thinking it's not a strand type film. It's multi-layered film making
Why does this stupid comment make me laugh every time I see it

This movie feels like a weird CD ROM game because of the odd angles and I love it.
That was my thought, this movie looks like a 90’s video game.
Why would a CD ROM game be weird? Gran Turismo 2, a PS1 game is a CD ROM game. There is nothing weird about it.

This video is such a joyous place that I cannot help but revisit it again, and again, and again.
Its funny how, Dunkey talks about loving and returning to this movie again and again. I have not seen playtime, but I seem to keep coming back to this video over and over again.
Dunkey truly brings culture to this barren landscape
That was a better summary of Playtime than anything I could ever give. Please keep sharing niche stuff like this, because you're really good at boiling down a piece of media to it's essence so that people can gauge whether or not it's worth their time.
Completely agree
Dunkey should be a salesman, he's so convincing when he really likes something.
Even when he doesn't like something he's a great salesman. I bought 4 copies of knack myself

it's really cool to see a big channel like Dunkey's shine the spotlight on a piece of media that is about as far from the orbit of most of his audience as it can be.
I love this journey.

this movie is like a city management game
everything is mostly a normal urban environment where your attention is being divided between a hundred different things at once, except occasionally, something weird and interesting is happening that infrequently grabs your focus away from the routine city management tedium and you're like
"why the hell is Big Yoshi sitting on top of Big Ben",
then you snap back 2 minutes later and realize you might've missed five other things back there that happened while your brain was away staring at Big Yoshi, so you try to collect yourself mentally while going through all your stuff to figure out if anything went wrong while you were preoccupied
there's sort of a subdued urban chaos that occasionally hits a fever pitch when you aren't expecting it because a bunch of small stupid things begin to crop up at once, and before you know it you're wading through a post-apocalyptic scenario and it's impossible to comprehend anything anymore, so you inevitably say "that's it i quit"
and restart from square one
Jacques tati was a genius, this is one of my favourite comedies ever. Would have never expected Dunkey to ever mention it tho.
