    Watching this from far away Australia we were not sure if it was black & white or just a bleak Uk winter! No, seriously, this is fab,
    Amazing how glorious B&W can look . Thanks

    Very nostalgic. The use of monochrome shows the loco's at their best in my opinion, just like the days gone by. Thank you for sharing.

    Thank you for including the animals, the stone bridges, streams etc; although a steam fan I love the countryside and the way the railway goes gently through it - as opposed to the Mordor Motorway

    A brilliant effort by all the locos, hauling 10 or 11 coach trains up Shap, unassisted, but particular credit must go to the Black 5!

    Slick and very sweet, most enjoyable. Jubs, black fives and the occasional Scot were my meat at the Harpenden viaduct in the 50's and 60's, great to hear them like this again. Yes, the black and white serves well. Be nice to see a 4f, 8f and 9f on the main line again.

    • @Linesider1
      @Linesider1  7 лет назад

      Thanks very much. You had a superb diet of LMS steam! I'd love to see a 9F on Shap but sadly I don't think it will ever happen now with the flangeless driving wheel issue.

    • @sirjohng1
      @sirjohng1 7 лет назад

      Linesider Video : Yes, the 9f with a seemingly endless line of coal wagons, I always wondered where the journey end siding was that could contain such a length of train.
      My biggest "rush" was a Scot piloted by a very dirty Midland compound because we just did not see compounds except at the model railway club.
      Happy days throwing ballast at the telegraph wires to hear the "music".
      Keep up the good work.

    Very well done, David. What more can I add to what has already been written? Several points, perhaps: a pleasure to see all of that steam achievement without a diesel at the back; superb interludes of countryside/nature; great interest from your choice of locations; how did you do the selective colour parts? Best regards, Bob K.

    • @Linesider1
      @Linesider1  7 лет назад

      Thanks very much again Bob - greatly appreciated. I used photoshop to create a mask around the areas I wanted to keep as colour - so a bit of toing and froing between the editing software and PS to get it right, and a bit fiddly but glad I went for it. Thanks again, David.

    I have a question.Are these tourist attraction trains, everyday usage, or what is the main purpose of these older model trains in the UK? I love watching them, but want to know how they are used.

    • @Linesider1
      @Linesider1  6 лет назад

      They are essentially tourist trains, which are run on a one-off or infrequent basis on the national network. The steam loco's featured in this production were all withdrawn from active service in the 1960s but thanks to preservationists, societies and private individuals, live on.

    Why Black & white?

    • @Linesider1
      @Linesider1  6 лет назад

      Hi Nathan - I like Black and White photography, it's got a tone and feel all of its own which I felt suited the subject, location and perhaps provided the most effective way of showing things more as they were in the real days of steam. All of the original colour footage is used in DVDs etc - which have my own self-imposed production rules and so I sometimes use RUclips for more creative ideas like this. Many thanks, David.
