Thank you for the extra push!!

I joined at 29 dude, I know the struggle, RTC actually was too easy because I was left alone because I understood when to stfu.
The only issue I got into was me and my 2nd RDC, he screamed at me for not shaving that morning( I didn’t ) and lied to him and broke attention, looked him in the eyes and told him I did, he shut me down before I got out of line to talk to my chief, he let it ride and said “he’s old, he might have shaved” 😭😂😂 got away from that orange card

Prior FMF Corpsman did 5 active and 3 reserves while in college and 3 deployments (OIFx1 and OEFx2). I would encourage you to commission and not go in as enlisted. Corpsman promotion is awful and the days of Iraq and Afghanistan are long gone. I was lucky I made HM1 right before I commissioned but I have friends who struggled to make HM2 and HM1. I commissioned at my 8.5-year mark and will say life as an officer is better. OCS is not hard but more running and attention to detail. I thought it was more difficult than boot camp. I went back to active for a few years now back in the reserves.

Well, I guess I'm one of the few and the proud. I'll tell you why. Two years ago (in 2019) I went to navy boot camp but got injured and was medically discharged. After trying and trying, with so much more paperwork and obstacles in my way, I'm finally going back in Feb. 2022. But here's the catch, I'm 39 now and turning 40 in boot camp in April 2022 as well, I'm going to be old AF lol!! Hopefully I can share some of my wisdom with these young recruits and get yelled at by RDCs who are younger than me. Oh well, hope the younger peeps are able to keep up with me! lol
And now boot camp is going to be 10 weeks starting in 2022!!

I joined at my 29 in 2006 as the CS. My bootcamp was great and would never forget (Hooyah 064!!!). My favorite part of the bootcamp is definitely their food, just can’t complain at all, but I ate too much cereals 😂. I had a great time in my 7 years of the Navy; I learned a lot and would never forget.
I see lots of people here are going to join after their 30s or even 36. My suggestion for you is to mentally prepared than physically prepared, especially if you are a family man/woman. Maybe you are going to miss them a lot, but just don’t forget why you are joining the military. Once you finish the bootcamp, A school and going to your first command, pretty much you are going to get everything under control. Prepare yourself, learn your job and learn your command, then you will still get plenty of time to see your family again. So don’t get mess up that makes you feel you want to get home from the bootcamp, it’s absolutely a dumb (of course your RTC won’t let you go as well).
Btw, this video is about a year ago; I believe that you must be made to E4 now at least. Just keep it going shipmate!

I joined in at 22 in 2005. On the bus to GL on my 22nd bday lol. It was either that day, or 4 months later for AT school at the time. Little did we all know that Katrina would screw up that whole time line lol. I was supposed to go to Pensacola after Boot. Along with 1000s of others. But that didn't happen. Lemoore, CA babyyy lol. Enjoy it man. It goes by sooo fast. Seems like an eternity at times while in. But man, I gotta do some cool stuff, see some awesome places, and meet some great people over the years. Many of whom I still speak with fairly regularly today! VFA-125, VFA-147 HooYa! I got out after 6yrs and 2 WestPacs. Needed a break, but Navy times I wish I'd stayed in. If you want to advance as an HM, you gotta go to school, community volunteer, take extra responsibilities inside your department and outside your department, be involved in command organizations and maybe you advance. Other rates you simply just do your job and you advance. Majority of HM’s stay E-3’s for 5 years.

I leave december 7th for AME. I'm excited but scared at the physical cause I beat myself up when I fall behind on expectations.
But I did 4 years of college and really got out if shape. Im getting back in shape- but I feel like it isn't enough sometimes.
I left school with a whole lot of debt. And a lot went to collections cause it was all loans and not all of it could be covered under the government 10 year loan. It got too much- so Navy here I come. With my HVAC licensing and Architecture degree+ Autocad licensing 💀😭
I got out and the pay is atrocious for my level of schooling. And anything HVAC most companies won't hire cause I'm a female. They won't say it- but their whole team is male.... So I'm not stupid. I know without them saying it

Learn the chain of command, ranks and insignias, sailor's creed, 11 general orders of a sentry, anchors aweigh, CO's top six, CNO's core attributes, how to stand watch, etc. You will go over all of those. The number one thing I would say is don't fall asleep, you will get in trouble. Also if you are not E-3 when you join, try to get a leadership position with a collar device. The RDCs will hand out promotions later on in boot camp to those who show good leadership, military bearing, or integrity. One last thing, you will clean A LOT.

I leave for bootcamp may 23rd im 27 any tips you can provide

    • @fentontuck9998
      @fentontuck9998 2 года назад +1

@@sploojey4473 For sure, my buddy who's now 30 just got out of boot a couple days ago
So, first off boot camp is 10 weeks long now, if you haven't had your covid shots they'll make you ROM for 2 weeks (basically just sitting in a compartment trying not to go insane) but if you HAVE had your covid shots, and it's been more than 2 weeks since your second shot, you can skip all that and just head straight in.
Night of arrival is a huge culture shock, you're going to be getting screamed at and told to move, move, move. Do it and keep your head down.
Once you get put into your division you'll go through whats called "P-days" which is processing days, finalizing any paperwork you may need, getting all your shots, another medical check-up just for good measure. This lasts for 5 days, then you'll move to your final compartment (barracks)
Know that on 1-1 day (week one day one) you WILL get your asses kicked. As soon as you guys are in your compartment you'll get your rack, drop your stuff and get told to get on your 6-pack
There will be opportunities for leadership such as your RPOC, AROC, and MA, and Yeoman the tougher the job the more you are rewarded at the end, our RPOC joined as an E-1 and graduated as an E-3
Don't let the younger kids get to you, a lot of them have never been away from home before and don't perform well under pressure, that's something that you, being a little bit older have an advantage in.
Being 27 you'll be in a different bracket for PT standards, meaning they'll be a bit more lax for you, I'd say that would be the one area where you are going to want to keep up with the younger kids, just because you have that extra slack doesn't mean you should use all of it.
Respect your recruit leadership, even if your RPOC is some arrogant 19-year old punk, he is technically your superior, that's something that you are going to have to get used to in a hurry, during your time in the Navy you will have a lot of people that are significantly younger than you but outrank you, show them the proper respect.
Don't nuke it, by that i mean don't overthink things. Bootcamp is incredibly simple, difficult, but simple. All you are expected to do is exactly as your told.
Use your life experience to your advantage, help your shipmates when they're having trouble.
Also, i haven't seen this one anywhere yet. Make Navy Fed your main bank if you can. If you don't use Navy fed you will get paid on the 1st and the 15th (with some exceptions) more often than not people that get paid through Navy Fed get their paycheck a day or two early.
If you want to write letters home get an address book and start filling it with addresses and phone numbers now. There's a surprising amount of down time and i spent quite a bit of mine writing letters home.
Other than that just remember that at the end of the day, Bootcamp is all a mind-game, everything they do is for a reason. They want you follow directions and perform under pressure, you do that, you'll be fine.
Oh, one more thing, if you're the religious type and want to go to service on Sunday to try to mentally escape boot-camp you can obviously do that, but it's cutting into your free time and all they talk-about is boot camp anyway 🤷‍♂
      Good Luck Shipmate 👊
