As this was uploaded on my birthday, and me being a black male who had aspirations of becoming a SEAL, coming across this video was something special.

@@jakezweig No, unfortunately not. This was in 1999, and I was just about to go into the Navy, and I broke my femur, so it may have been a disqualification. And I just had my 39th birthday, so that may also be a hindrance.

@O M: Obviously, you're really suckered in by that KKK fallacy as if those morons have an iota of influence on civilized people. The U.S. adult population is over 252 Million. The KKK has a total membership of about 4 thousand. The only thing those blithering idiots are good for is a good burst of laughter.
@gippygipmg I'm definitely starting to think so...
Proud of you bruh. As a retired army senior NCO, I love hearing stories from African American Special Operations men.
Thank you so much! Thank you for your service

@@martelprayer416 GET AFTER THE PIRATES TREASURE
People stupidly say that there is no "racism" in the military. Well that is absolutely bs. What Jake went through is evidence that it is alive and well; especially in the SpecOps community. It is, what it is.. Kudos to Jake, my Dad, David Goggins and other brothers for their perseverance
Driving it like I stole it
❤
@jakezweig Let me just say that operators like you, David Goggans and the few others that represent our small minority in special operations give all of us young guys the motivation and example to keep pushing. I’m only 33 now but I spent 6 years in SWCC before I was medically discharged and of the 800 or so SWCC operators I was one of only 26 African Americans on active duty during my time. Although times have changed there is most DEFINITELY still a stigma against blacks in Special operations especially when it comes to the Seals or SWCC. There’s a lot of stereotyping and almost distrust for us which means we have to go even further and beyond to prove ourselves. But we did it, thanks for helping pave the way!! “On time, on target, NEVER quit”
The X is all that matters thanks for the boat rides!!!!
You two need to reach out to black teenagers. Sadly all my black friends were influenced by the movie, "Boyz N Tha Hood" where they say "Black men ain't got no place in the army.", which is fucking bullshit. Now the youth is idolizing instagram rappers who get murdered. You guys have an opportunity to make a difference in many young kids' lives. Special Forces isn't some, "white people shit", take advantage now that you two are out, talk to high schools, you'd be surprised how much a simple 40 minute speech can influence.

Sir, you have my upmost respect to come out on top with everything working against you. What really hit home in this video and what I can relate to is when you said about the other guys can fail a section and be ok, but you weren’t playing under those same rules. This exactly how I felt during my years at UGA College of Pharmacy as one of only 2 African American males in my class of 140. We really need to hear your voice in our community to show younger kids that what society might tell them is impossible is very possible if you rather die before you fail! Thanks brother

Man, I'm glad i got to hear this speech. Really puts life into perspective to understand no matter how hard someone tries to break you, you are the only one in control of your Destiny. Sleeping outside in your underwear for 5 fucking days? Mentally they went to the extreme to break you. I spent 2 years of literally every waking moment of my life trying to join the Army. 265 pounds, criminal record, traffic record, and at 29 years of age. I trained 7 days a week, went to MEPs more times than i can count, interview with a company commander and battalion commander, psychological evaluation, moral wavier, and starved myself and dehydrated myself for days and weeks at a time. Wavier went up to USAREC to a 1 star general in October 2016 and was disapproved. Than march 2017 i tried again with our new Commander and Chief. Enlisted as 11X 11X March 2017. Bitter sweet unfortunately I was medically Discharged and that followed up with kidney problems and ankle surgery. But, this moment right now I am Training to join by july. This speech allowed me to understand its not about the past or your failures, its about your preparation and your will to never quit on yourself.

Thank you no CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Jake i made my decision and went to a recruiter today, thanks!
LET'S GO!!!!!! Congrats get ready!!!!
Jake you may not remember me but can haven't forgotten you for the past 30 years. Back in 1992 you were at RTC Great Lakes and I was a 18 yo recruit. I, being a black inner city kid, could not swim and had a fear of water due to nearly drowning when I was very young. I took the swim test and failed probably four times before my encounter with you that day at the pool. I jumped in, tired as all hell, but you encouraged me and I kept going. I was barely able to meet the 3rd class swimmer requirements (literally the tip of my finger) and you had this look on your face like you were not very pleased and did not want to pass me. I hope you saw that I was giving it all I had that day and in turn gave me the thumbs up. I've seen you once about 20 years ago on TV but did not catch your name. Today this vid slid into my feed for no reason that I can think of. Thank you for your encouragement to never quit.
Man brother in 92 hummm not sure I was in Great lakes I was at the USNA getting killed ... but more power to you!

Dying before you quit is a much deeper axiom I realized because literally as a SEAL it is very likely you put your life on the line
The point is you will have your life on the line and if you are worried about living, you are guaranteed to die. You must be able to focus on what you are doing even when the lights are going out.

Good morning. Responding from Good Ole Washington state just outside of America lake VA.
I saw a video where you said you had stem cell injections into your shoulders and they helped. I was an EOD tech with 16yrs and was medically retired from the army in 2015. I was told that I also needed shoulder replacement. However I had already had 2 shoulder reconstructions and full knee replacement at 44. My shoulder surgeries where the worst to recover from. I really want to avoid replacement. When I heard you talk about stem cell injections and how much it helped. I was wondering if it would be possible to get some information on it from you?
Love how you give the down low on the military and how difficult special operations are, to young people thinking about joining the military.

I wanted to be a pilot. The AF recruiter told me I need a private pilots license. Doesn’t make sense because of people I hear say a lot of what you learn in that area can actually become bad habits.
I talked to a navy recruiter and it seemed like they had more aviation opportunity which was strange to me. I assume AF is more competitive
Facts if your going to compete for the air force aviation your going to need a private, the navy not so much, if you want jets you better be flying before you go.

Finally they told the ranger instructors to check on me and I smelled like death. When I told the RI that I had diarrhea for 5 days straight the smile that man had I will never forget. I showed them right there all I needed to show. I would of rather died than quit. they passed my pathetic private ass on the spot. Drove me to barracks.. let me shower and gave me 4 hours sleep!!!
