Hi Alice, thank you so much for your video. I'm a man and many of us aren't skilled with a sewing machine. My question is the following: If the original pants, or the jeans, come with a straight cut on the leg, is it necessary to make the new measurement with a diagonal cut or fold? Shouldn't it be straight too?
    Excuse my ignorance.

No. Usually, there is no need for diagonal cut regardless of the type of pants. But there are exceptions.
As you can see in this tutorial, I pined front and back of the pants leg according to the type of shoes.
Shoes are important when measuring for hem. Here I cut at diagonally to avoid extra unattractive puddle of fabric around the ankles.
      Hope this helps 🙂

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly. The reason why I'm marking only one leg is because this person - in this video - that I'm hemming pants for, has even legs, therefore I can copy this measurement to the other leg. BUT, if there is a leg length difference, at that point, both leg bottoms should be measured separately to get accurate hem length. I hope this answers your question.
