Thanks to the algorithm i got to this video on my second attempt to find the best blind hem tutorial. First one was waste of time, this one great. Commenting to boost so others find it quicker:)
Algorithm must be doing something right for a change, this was the first result for "machine hemming pants" and was exactly what I needed :) Thanks for posting it - all the info I needed, and no fluff to skip through to get to it!
Thank you! I love your detailed explanations! When I got my first sewing machine as a wedding gift from my mom, the amazingly kind woman at Sears showed me some tips and tricks. The blind hem was one of them. Sadly many things has passed since 1991: Sears, my first sewing machine and my mom! But, the memories remain and are sweet and fill me with joy. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I still have the sample from the kind instructor and use it as a reference when I hem my husband’s trousers. 😊
Oh my goodness this is the best blind hem tutorial I have seen. I have been trying to figure it out for the last couple of days and your video came up this morning.
This is the best demo and explanation I’ve ever seen! I’ve sewn for many years and have avoided this technique. I’m going to try this. I really appreciated the explanation of the stitch anatomy - 3 stitches then the left hook. Have liked and subscribed after watching this. Look forward to more videos
This was sooo simple and concise! I’ve never understood how to blind hem but just started a job where I need to dress well and my new dress pants were too long. Thank you so much for explaining this!
Well i bought a blind hemming foot! I didn't think you could do it with just a normal foot but it actually looks easier. I am going to try this next time, thanks for sharing.
Hi! My 2 cents: the pants used in your demo are obviously a high end fabric that has wonderful inherent movement when worn. Turning the hem up without trimming off the excess fabric of the original hem MIGHT not put too much extra bulk at the bottom of the pant leg when using a machine to do the sewing. BUT - to not trim off any excess hem material before creating a new hemline on pants like cotton khakis or everyday knock-around pants has always turned into a bulky disaster for me in over 60 years of sewing. Do it properly by …marking the new hem…release the old hem stitching…trim off excess fabric…then blind hem stitch with the machine, or encase the hem edge with the overlock stitch and finish by hand. Creates a much less bulky hem area. Sorry - just trying to present another method!😊
Thanks and what length of fabric do you leave for future let out or to weigh the pant legs? I just went to Uniqlo and had 2 dress pants hemmed and I think they said the are going to cut off the extra material and leave a bit of material. I felt uneasy about that and asked them to leave 3” of extra material to be safe. Seems like the staff was not that knowledgeable or trained and just wanted to do it the quickest and easiest. But they offer free alterations on their product and of older and without a receipt they charge only $5.
I'm at a loss as to understanding the problem you're presenting here in reference to this particular demonstration. Firstly, it doesn't seem like this hem is the result of an alteration and is probably the first hem for this garment, so your "instructions" are kind of moot. Secondly, in principal there is no "extra" bulk; the depth of the hem is more or less correct for a bespoke trouser, which should have a hem the total opposite of skimpy (also, the fabric here is kind of floaty and needs the weight of a substantial turn-back). Jeans and sometimes khakis generally have a small rolled and topstitched hem which is correct ONLY for these types of casual pants.
Excellent work on pants, instructions and video. Clearly you have more than one talent. Thank you for creating the video and posting it. Greatly appreciate your time, efforts and skills.
Thank you for the very clear and focused closeup of the sewing machine’s needle and the foot meet the fold of the fabric and the extra layer. Great job. Thanks.
THANK YOU! I just could not do this without your help! I was skeptical because I usually subscribe to women's instructions. When you said the words, "turn the hem in on itself" or "turn the pants in on itself" I finally understood. All the drawings in the world could not help me!
Thank you so much! I have 3 pairs of slacks longing to be hemmed but I was afraid to even attempt them. You've made this look absolutely do-able. Much appreciated 👍
Thank you for explaining this so well and giving a visual example. Also, thank you for showing which stitch on the machine is the stitch you were referring to. I watch a lot of sewing videos and a lot of times the person on the video says use your machine to do such and such stitch and even if I look it up in my directions for my machine, it’s difficult to find. So, thank you.
Like all the other comments, I found this to be my moment of truth. I finally cracked the way to blind hem, after watching all the other useless videos, this one showed me how without lengthy talking. I've been hand sewing my hems but now I'm confident that I can blind hem successfully. Thank you
I tried my first blind hem on my sewing machine today thanks to your wonderful tutorial. The illustrations that came with my sewing machine just didn’t make sense to me. Thanks so much!
Thank you. This is even easier than a similar technique I just learned on you tube with a straight stitch machine but a whole lot less wear and tear on my knees from the knee lift.
Just completed doing this on my new tux pants (I practiced on a few scrap pieces first) and they came out beautifully. Thanks so much for sharing this clear and concise tutorial. It really helped!
This is the best video tutorial I have seen on this stitch! Thank you so much for the amazing zoom in and clear instruction. I've been (going crazy) trying to learn it for one of my hubby's particularly special pants and I haven't been able to grasp the concept of how to line up the folds and where the needle should be landing! You explained it all so well. So appreciated. I'm going to watch more of your videos.
You helped me so much! I struggled with all the other tutorials but yours somehow just simplified it for me. Thank you so much! Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year!
Sweet, just bought my first suit and I'm getting into sewing and tailoring for my own home repairs and hopefully cosplay in the near future. Concise guide, thank you very much.
Nice demonstration and it will be useful to others. I've never been intimidated by the blind hem on my machine. I simply read the sewing machine book and followed the instructions. I've been using my home machine for blind hems ever since. One can buy a specialty blind hem foot to use and the results are good.
Overlock the edge if you have an overlocker. If not, use the overlock stitch on your sewing machine, if you don't have an overlock stitch on your sewing machine, use a zig zag stitch.
Thank you, good tutorial! Many regular home sewing machines have a blind hem foot available, or can make use of a generic one, as long as it fits the shank of the machine. The foot holds the edge and the fold in place to get the tiny stitch perfectly aligned.
Thank you Lewis. Love the specs, they really suit you. I've always been nervous about doing a blind hem but will have a go now you've explained it so well. 👍
Thank you for this 👍 My husband recently bought me a fabulous Janome sewing machine and so far I’ve only used the basic stitch. I also have a new pair of trousers which need to be shortened.
This looks very doable! Thank you! I’m definitely going to try it to save money. I am a 5’7” woman and never had to hem pants before but now it seems the average pants and jeans got longer grrrrrr!
Hi can you post a video on how you got the cuff prepared to how they are that you can then go about and do the blind stitch. Yours look evening sewed mine the inside cut has the scissor cuts
Thank you. I have practically 0 sewing experience but with some trial and error I was able to hem my new dress pants using my partner's sewing machine. The pants seemed to have a taper which made it impossible to sew the whole way around, so I just sewed 4 separate sections around the legs to hold them evenly. Seems to have worked well.
Thanks for the comprehensive tutorial! I've got a few sewing machines but am just now getting into clothing alterations. At $30 to have a pair of pants hemmed, this makes great sense.
Thanks to the algorithm i got to this video on my second attempt to find the best blind hem tutorial. First one was waste of time, this one great. Commenting to boost so others find it quicker:)
Same!! Definitely the best blind hem tutorial I've seen. I've looked it up prior to now and the explanation wasn't as good. Loved this one tho!!
Thank you for the clear and simple instructions. You not only gave the what, but also the why. Great job.
This is the best blind hem tutorial I’ve found. Thank you!
Algorithm must be doing something right for a change, this was the first result for "machine hemming pants" and was exactly what I needed :) Thanks for posting it - all the info I needed, and no fluff to skip through to get to it!
Omg for 20 years I’ve never been able to figure this out! It ended up faster for me to just hand stitch my hems. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
You’re my new teacher lol I’m bout to learn so much !
Wow ❗️. Talk About ▪︎ to the Point 👉 ▪︎ well spoken ▪︎ and easily understood 👏

😢 same.
Blind hems can drive you crazy! This video is very clear and extremely helpful. Thank you!
Oh my goodness this is the best blind hem tutorial I have seen. I have been trying to figure it out for the last couple of days and your video came up this morning.
Oh I wish I had found this video a long long time ago! Saving this to favorites so that I can rewatch it and teach myself!
The most concise and straightforward tutorial on blindhemming! Thank you!
This is the best demo and explanation I’ve ever seen! I’ve sewn for many years and have avoided this technique. I’m going to try this. Great instructions on blind- hem
Thanks
Very helpful! Thank you for demonstrating the blind hem in a manner even I can understand, it is greatly appreciated🙂
It has been a headache for me but now thank you!! excellent demo and i got it!!!
Perfect! Gonna use this to hem my wife's new work pants.
Thank you for this video. I was able to successfully hem a pair of dress pants after watching it. Saved me time and money! Thank you!
Loved this video! Worked
Great for blind hemming my son’s trousers for easter service.
This is better than the video put out by Craftsy featuring a professional sewing instructor.
This is by far the best video I’ve seen! Thank you! I was so surprised that I was able to hem my super slippery viscose, ultra wide leg dress pants
This was sooo simple and concise! I’ve never understood how to blind hem but just started a job where I need to dress well and my new dress pants were too long. Thank you so much for explaining this!
I finally got it after so many years of sewing. Had to get my son's suit pants hemmed just right for his wedding! Much appreciated!!
Good explanation of hemming on a sewing machine. I bought a blind hemmer forty years ago. I've enjoyed having it because its stitches are invisible.
Very helpful. Appreciate showing on actual pair of slacks. I'm hemming several pairs for my father, so this is first time trying this kind of stich.
Thank you. Clear and to the point without any extraneous chit-chat. Hooray!
Awesome, definitely made this easier to understand than the Janome manual
Thank you for such clear and simple instructions! That was EXCELLENT!
Going to try this to hem up some suit pants for a job interview. Thank you for the tutuorial!
Well i bought a blind hemming foot! I didn't think you could do it with just a normal foot but it actually looks easier. I am going to try this next time, thanks for sharing.

How have I not already run across this channel!? Subbed
Thank you. Your video was directly to the point and very clear to understand, with no fluffy extra chatter. 😂 thank you so much
Fluffy chatter is absolutely annoying, I agree with you!
Excellent work on pants, instructions and video. Clearly you have more than one talent. Thank you for creating the video and posting it. Greatly appreciate your time, efforts and skills.
Thank you so much! I've never done a blind stitch before and every other video I watched was way more complicated!
Thank you for the very clear and focused closeup of the sewing machine’s needle and the foot meet the fold of the fabric and the extra layer. Great job. Thanks.

Excellent video! Easy to see and follow. Simple explanation with no unnecessary verbiage. I'll save this as a handy reference. Thank you!
This was perfect, no BS, straight to the solution I was seeking. Now I just have to find some grey thread and I'm in business!
Thank you so much! I have 3 pairs of slacks longing to be hemmed but I was afraid to even attempt them. You've made this look absolutely do-able. Much appreciated 👍
YOU ARE A ROCK STAR!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
This was the best tutorial I found on RUclips. I was able to hem pants really easily using this method. So have this like!

Short and sweet, to the point! Thanks can't wait to try this!
Great expanation and attention to detail in this process!!! Much appreciated! Subscribed!
Thanks to you, I was able to hem my husbands new suit pants in 20 min for the wedding we're attending in 3 days.
This is the best video tutorial I have seen on this stitch! Thank you so much for the amazing zoom in and clear instruction.

Excellent demo. Thank you. Step by step.
Very clearly demonstrated, thanks!
Awesome demo, thanks! I'll definitely practice this to see if I can get good enough to do my own hems 🎉
Nice demonstration and it will be useful to others.
I've never been intimidated by the blind hem on my machine. I simply read the sewing machine book and followed the instructions. I've been using my home machine for blind hems ever since. One can buy a specialty blind hem foot to use and the results are good.
Fantastic! It would also be great to know what stitch to use ahead of time on the raw edge, thank you so much for the clear and visible guidance.
Overlock the edge if you have an overlocker. If not, use the overlock stitch on your sewing machine, if you don't have an overlock stitch on your sewing machine, use a zig zag stitch.
Thank you, I have been looking for this for some time 🙏
That’s going to come in so handy when I do the hems to my suit pants for a family wedding I have to intend. Thank you so much for that.
Thank you, good tutorial! Many regular home sewing machines have a blind hem foot available, or can make use of a generic one, as long as it fits the shank of the machine. The foot holds the edge and the fold in place to get the tiny stitch perfectly aligned.
Thanks for the sewing machine tip!🧵✔️🙏❤️
You bet!
This is THE video for blind hem tutorial! Clear and easy. I need to find a vid explaining how to use a blind hem foot now.
Thank you for showing us on an actual pant leg!
Wow! Thank you for sharing! Most useful video I've seen on blind hemming
Fantastic vid and advice. Straight to the point too.
Thank you Lewis. Love the specs, they really suit you. I've always been nervous about doing a blind hem but will have a go now you've explained it so well. 👍
You have got to be a tailor, professionally! I enjoyed this video. I'm a tailor myself
GREAT video - thank you. Watched a couple other people, but this one was very clear and broken down for me to understand easily.
Excellent, U made this look so EASY!!!
Thank you for this 👍 My husband recently bought me a fabulous Janome sewing machine and so far I’ve only used the basic stitch.
I also have a new pair of trousers which need to be shortened.
Great video and very useful tip for hemming pants. 😊
Oh my God thank you! I have struggled with this. I’m a beginner, but even so, I felt it shouldn’t be this hard. Your tutorial is perfect!
Short, sweet, and effective! Great video
This looks very doable! Thank you! I’m definitely going to try it to save money. I am a 5’7” woman and never had to hem pants before but now it seems the average pants and jeans got longer grrrrrr!

Thank you! Got it on my first try!!!
Well done!
Thanks for your clear explanation and demonstration! 👍
Wonderful tutorial! Thank you!
your explanation was clear, and I can't wait to try it. The fabric of the pants looks lovely-maybe Seersucker? Could you share its name? Thanks!
Thank you! Best explanation for me to use on my home machine.
Excellent explanation, thank you so much. Learned a lot 😊
I tried it and it worked perfectly!! Thank you!!!!
Thanks for the comprehensive tutorial! I've got a few sewing machines but am just now getting into clothing alterations. At $30 to have a pair of pants hemmed, this makes great sense.
Great video, just learning some things about what my sewing machine is capable of, thank you!
