Worked like a charm. I buy some pants at thrift stores that are like brand new. I get my waist size but if they are a bit long I buy them anyway to hem. I had 3 pair in the closet and found your video go finally get them done. Your video made it easy and thanks a million.
Thank you! I just got my tape from Amazon, it did not come with instructions. Finding your video is a life savor! And money saver, I was quoted $16.00 a pair to hem, goodness.
It's your decision. But, if you were in business to hem random strangers pants all day, and you have no other job or anybody else to rely on to pay your rent or mortgage, how much would you charge??
@@jakefriesenjake you make a good point. The hemming fee also includes the labor and some of them hand stitch the hems which take more time. I was able to afford $15 a pant a year ago to get all my pants hemmed. Up to this day, the hemming has stood strong through several washings and dry cycles. Now, I am wanting to save money and will try hemming this method for the two new pants I bought.
Using a steam iron helps the fabric glue tape set easily. Because the pants may be narrower at the bottom than at the fold or the bottom once it is rolled up to shorten the pants, you may need to open the inside leg seam and spread it a bit to avoid unwanted tucks or gathers in the ironed hem.
Great suggestion to go for the thinner part so the iron can heat it all the way through, I hadn't thought of that. I will tackle my curtains's blackout lining now.
A few washes then it starts peeling abit but you redo where is peeling again I just add abit where its missing and also it depends on fabric lycra goes faster than tougher material
I haven't tried this particular tape, but there are brands that are permanent. Read the packaging. Name brands such as Dritz and Wrights seem to do the job, using this RUclipsr's method. Some are made with a peel off tape side where you iron one side at a time.
I wonder if it's a good idea to actually snip off that original 1/2-inch hem that the jeans come with. Then it would lay much flatter when ironing the tape on.
You can do that, only concern is that with a cut edge, it will fray over time. With the tape method, you can't really roll and protect the exposed edge.
Before I try this, I do have two questions (and maybe you addressed them in the video and I missed it) 1. If I mess up, can I remove it even after ironing? 2. Will I have to re-do this every time I wash? Or is it wash-resistant
You can’t really undo it, the tape melts and fuses with the fabric. You might be able to get it apart but I would be worried about tarring the fabric. It does not come out in the wash unless you don’t get it fully fused. Take your time and just make sure it’s how you want it before applying heat
it does make it a little heavier. If you cut off the excess, just ensure that you roll the end into the cuff. Otherwise you'll get fraying inside the pant leg.
@@efdupdate? How many washes has it taken to undo? 😁. I am thinking of doing this to designer pants. But I need to do this quick for an event. In the future would I be able to still get it professionally hemmed? As in will there be yucky glue stain etc?
Stupid question I'm sure, but has anyone ever used heavy duty staples to hem pants? I'm talking just knock around pants and jeans, nothing fancy. I wouldn't think they'd be too obvious if you only use a few for each leg.
Surely you should have cut off some of the excess before hemming. People will wonder if you are wearing "short long" trousers, or "long short" trousers with a hem the size of route 66
Bro lol. No. You do just one side, with the iron on a low-medium setting, iron directly onto the tape, when it cools you PEEL the paper off, then place the other side of the fabric to be hemmed over that and iron again
@@efd I think the tape with paper has glue on one side. After ironing the tape on over the paper, you remove the paper and put your hem over it. The glue doesn't work as well though.
@@efd You hit the nail on the head because the instructions on the back of my tape are exactly the way you demonstrated, thanks for the step by step video! 👍
The original hem is of a smaller circumference than where it meets the leg when folded and results in surplus fabric pleating. I'd suggest you learn to sew or find someone who can. Trouser hems like this are pretty basic, but blind stitched ones are more difficult and require a special machine or be very carefully hand sewn.
Thank you!
I don't own an iron, but I can confirm this works just as well with a hair straightener 😂👍🏻
Ha! That’s awesome
everybody else made it seem complicated but this video did it for me, thank you!

You did an excellent job of showing how to hem with tape !! Thank you !!
I love the way how you explain, so easy, and quick! Thank you!!👍

This is easier then I expected. Thanks for the tutorial!

Thank you for this DIY video because I sure was going to the Taylor to have my pants hemmed. I'll sure save 15 dollars with this method.

This helped me so much! Thank you :)
Thank you! I've watched other videos and they look so confusing this really helped!
Thx for the video. Does it hold up in the washing machine?
it will if you use the proper amount of heat. If it doesn't completely melt, it can come apart.
To save permanent creases when you turn them back you can iron them not inside out first.
Why do stores not have anything for us short guys?!?!?
Maybe that’s a million dollar idea, instead of the tall and big store, we create a short and fat clothing line, haha
@@efd there's an online store for short people but it's expensive.
I know right!!!

If you really wanna know it's bc you can always take fabric off but can't usually add it on, this is my realest answer

good job..i also did this to save lots of money..then tried the ..Heat n Bond peel tape which i hated..going back to the fusion tape..
Great tutorial very easy to follow 👍
I have been wasting my money on alterations! No more. Thank you!
For sure! Even if you don’t like fabric tape, sewing it yourself isn’t hard either. I have another video showing that.
I am doing this now. thanks Mr 😊

Any worries on synthetic materials? I have light weight slacks for work when it’s hot. It’s made of some kind of stretchy breathable material.
I don’t know that I would use this on that type of material. It works good on cotton, I don’t know that it would fuse with a nylon or polyester

hey! so you don't need to dampen the pants before ironing?! im about to order this and try!! thank you for this video

Can it be undone, like stitches?
It cannot, it leaves a residue.
Good idea
What if I messed up on my measurements? How can I remove it 🫣 help

yes, you can wash it
Thanks had to fix up my scrubs
awesome, glad it helped!

Can i remove this tape later on without leaving marks? Want to do with my baby's jeans? Its little long for him now but in few months he will grow up
I would not use this if you want to remove the Hem at a later date. This will leave a mark.
@@efd thanks. Any other hack which can be removed later?
What about wrinkles on either sides Bro?
When you wash your pants after using the fabric tape does it come apart in the washer
It will over time, especially if you have any gaps. Also depends on the fabric.
I tried this and my pants look like they're flayering now how do i fix that
Maybe put your camera on the other side in the future. Just saying.😊
Thanks
Thank you
Does it not too thick without cutting it off
The problem with cutting is you can’t roll the cut end to keep it from fraying.
In case i want to remove it then how to do that?
it can't be removed with leaving stains.
Thanks 🙌

Is it better to use a steam iron istead to increase the temp ?
i wouldn't use steam. I think including water will weaken it.
