You can also use another pedal :p or even a 200 dollar valve king to get the same results. We used my buddies fender chorus which is a very cheap 1×12 combo amp. Works the same. Definitely doesn't have to be expensive
The ds1 is what you hear on nirvana in utero etc,,,deaths debut " scream bloody gore". And also its on napalm death " from enslavement,,,,," very versatile pedal from one extreme to another,,,if you boost around the 1k and up with a notch eq you start to bring in the hm2 sound
The thing you have to understand about the DS1 is it’s a dinosaur of a circuit. These days most guitars especially for metal players come with high output pups. High output pups really weren’t a thing back in 70s when it was designed, so it’s not really designed for what you are trying to do with it. Believe it or not DS1 actually inspired a change in methodology for me. With high output pups you end up adding a bunch of compression to your signal right out of the gate before it even hits your pedalboard or preamp and you lose some range and dynamics. Basically you are clipping out your signal a bit straight out of your output jack. Now you could always add that compression in later with your dirt boxes and amplifier but it’s not as easy to get rid of it once it’s already there. It’s a good way to stand out from the high output humbuckers, into tubescreamer, into vintage 30’s crowd. Hell one of my favorite setups, is my Jazzmaster, through my pedalboard, into a twin reverb pushed to the verge of breakup. It’s a rig so counterintuitive to the standard issue metal recipe that you wouldn’t think it would actually work but it does and amazingly. I have far more dynamics, and my stacked drives are my high gain work horses when I need them.
I have a Boss hm-2 but recently i've started to use the ds-1 instead, i chose this one even if i have a really rare and expensive mij hm-2. Just found this video searching to see if i'm crazy or not hahah
@@forlornhope_ by the way it fell off my dresser on Saturday because it was on there on the stand and I tried to take the strap off and the guitar fell to the floor and the headstock snapped in 2 pieces while strings were on it and I'm going to take it to a guitar tech to repair the headstock.
@@forlornhope_ It happens to me sometimes when I do videos. But it looked like someone talking to himself. Somehow I did and forgot to whom I am „talking“ to. I did my videos again. Maybe a matter of just change the setup a little, or concentrate better. Speaking of myself.
how to make a $30 pedal sound like a $250 pedal using a $1200 modeling amp pedal. Fucking love it.

Absolutely, though I still love using this thing as a boost through a dirty channel ;)
I used to own the boss ds-1 but I sold it for 10 dollars. I now use the sonicake Rockstage bar, it's worth the money.
I need to check that out! Sounds awesome :)
this pedal builds character
PUTS HAIR ON THE CHEST! ;D
The DS2 is sick, not seen one in a long time.
In fact, I don't even know if there is such a thing as a DS2, might be mixing it up with another boss pedal.
@@adamlee2550 It does exist and is on my list ;D I am excited to try it :D

@@BonJovi1987Fan Oh god! That seriously sucks! I hope the repair process isn't too bad
@@forlornhope_ it was a clean break, so it can be repaired.
I have what is left of a 275 vintage guitar collection if you are interested. Im old and dying.
I'm sorry to hear that, but I would absolutely love to look at it. Is it online? :)
🤙
EATEN!!!!!
My one desire! ;D
I use it the same way, it is modeled on zoom 3gn processor
Very nice!
Would much rather a Precision Drive clone for $35. Cool video though.
Who makes the precision drive clone?
Would love to get one and compare the 2!
@@jasonfrench8851 thats a great question. I wanna know as well haha
@@forlornhope_ demon fx makes one for around 50
@@kendallh5037 That sounds awesome! I will check it out (:
You're not getting the full potential of this pedal unless you run it thru a gorilla combo.
Honestly never heard of that amp haha. I'll have to check it out
Just one thing. Please look in the camera.
I'll try better for that. Its above my monitor XD

I kinda wish more people didn't
@@the-np4mr That makes me more comfortable tbh XD
What the hell does it matter where he's looking when he's testing a guitar pedal?
