Another great video. This time the audio is much better. I really appreciate the effort you put into these videos. Thank you so much and keep up the good work.
📌 Hi everyone, I was misinformed about Bilinda participating in recording sessions for MBV. Kevin Shields recorded himself all the guitars and even most of the bass tracks for Loveless and other MBV albums. I didn’t know it at the time of making this video, and thought she used the HM2 for tracking the album when actually she just used it live. Thanks for your time (; This video was released 5 days before MBV released their discography on streaming services again! Was it a signal when I uploaded it? Of course not, but check out their music again people and spread the word 🥰 my bloody valentine is back!! Edit: I hope we don’t have to wait another ten years for a new album 😬
13:41 boi that was not cringe. That actually sounded pretty good. You just need to quadtrack your vocals and add loads of reverb, chorus, and a tiny bit of delay, and phaser and you'll sound the same way bilinda butcher sounds on only shallow, and soon.
@@12monkeys95 thanks!! Really thanks a lot 😅 I’ve had Sometimes stuck in my head for the last few weeks, and I just had some fun right there. Bilinda is a great singer, I’d love to mimic her singing better, I’ve recorded my own version of Only Shallow and experimented a lot tracking many vocals with different mics and adding different effects to them, I’ll take your advices definitely (: along with Kurt cobain, she’s one of my favorite singers
Ah great 😊 I love bilinda everyone just focus on Kevin. It’s not exactly wrong but her contribution to the band goes way beyond vocals her guitar skills are awesome
Awesome video, Belinda does not get enough love. I’m honestly shocked at how close the mij and mit hm2 sound. Seems most of the time you can tell a big difference in mij and mit boss pedals
Thanks (; I couldn’t agree more, she’s an amazing guitar player. Indeed, I also think they do sound very similar, and I guess that if you think about it, no one’s going to notice the difference in a shoegazy band context since there’s usually a lot of stuff going on: bass, drums, synths, layers of vocals.. If you like the hm-2, I think any model will serve you very well
Thank you! Yes, I don't really now much about how she uses her gear live, there's a lot of mystery around it, but the hm-2 on its own really gets close indeed
That was really interesting- nice to see someone try to clone Belinda’s tone for a change. Seems like Kenneth & pedal partners are the only other RUclips channels doing MBV stuff at the moment- keep up the good work the as you got some great MBV guitar tones in your video. Is that Fender Jaguar model that you have out of production or can you still buy them?
Agreed Gerry, Bilinda's guitar tone often gets overshadowed by Shield's guitar tones and techniques - but we cannot forget that her contribution to the bands mix is far more important than vocals! Her guitar tone has always been a reference to me, one of my biggest inspirations. Thanks a lot bro (; there will never be enough MBV videos online, happy to contribute to that. My guitar is a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar, it's a 2012 model - I don't know if it's still beeing produced as I've bought mine second hand. It's a great guitar, plays really well! I intend to get some fancy pickups for it, but the stock pickups sound awesome already (: you can't go wrong. As it's a solid guitar, I do reccomend checking it out! reverb.com/p/squier-vintage-modified-jaguar-electric-guitar - Here are some second hand models available bro
@@manualofalternativemusic Thanks a lot for your reply, l' so happy to hear its a Squire and not a really expensive vintage Fender guitar - I will have to buy one as it sounds great

I’m always confused by the MIJ vs MIT stuff with the HM-2, the circuit had zero changes throughout its original production run so manufacturing location truly does not matter at all. Component tolerances will cause any two pedals to sound a bit different regardless of where they were made. Grab two MIJ and shoot them out and you’ll find they sound different too.
I didn’t know there weren’t changes in the circuit! Yeah you’re right, if it’s the same circuit it makes this situation even funnier 😅. Definitely bro, component tolerances is definitely the thing that tear pedals apart from one another, mostly vintage stuff like these 2, as manufacturing technology was not as good as today. Playing both in loud volumes like MBV did probably will result in even less differences

Hi I have a question do you use a 9v or a 12v power supply for the Boss HM-2? I will buy one this week but I only have a Strymon Ojai wich is a 9v with 5 slots... The other option that I have is to power supply it through my TU-3 will that work?? and is it much difference between a 9v and a 12v in the HM-2? greetings from Chile
Hi there! I know that using a daisy chain it should work, but I’m not sure about the TU-3. I’m using a Landscape Isopower 7, it has 12v slots, I’m powering both with 12v. If you have a daisy chain power supply hanging around you can try daisy chaining the hm2 with another pedal before buying a 12v power supply (:
The two different HM-2s are really close. I'm sure if you're playing at face melting volumes like MBV tends to do, the differences would be even less noticeable.
Indeed! Would love to play them through a marshall stack like they did live and blow the heck out of those speakers with the hm-2s like bilinda does (:
All Hm-2s sound slightly different from each other. i like your Jaguar and the cat. My cat would sleep on the couch while i sang and played, but if i got too loud he'd give me the stinkeye.
Thanks! My cats do the same 😅 I generally plug DI to my audio interface when they’re around so I don’t bother them with loud noise anymore. It’s their house 😂 so I better behave myself
Have you tried the TC Electronic Eyemaster (HM2 clone)? It doesn’t have the tone knobs, just volume and gain. Would that be a dealbreaker to get these kind of sounds? It’s
Hi bro, thanks for commenting! I’m afraid it would.. The tc elec eyemaster is a great pedal, the only thing I like and don’t like about it at the same time is that it doesn’t have the Hi knob 😣 so you always get that chainsaw sound whenever it’s on - which is not bad! It’s a great tone, you would just end going into more extreme distortions for shoegaze (it’s not necessarily a bad thing 🌚 but you’re stuck with it). If tc had considered to put a Hi knob instead of Gain in that pedal, it would be perfect for the mbv tone and an overall more versatile pedal, it’s the Hi that changes the character of the hm-2 the most. If you want the MBV sound, I’d recommend getting the Behringer hm300 (I’ll try it against my hm-2s for shoegaze soon) or buying the angry Swede, both will get you closer (; but it depends on what you want
Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I’m leaning towards the hm300 now (only thing putting me off is the plastic) Have you tried a DS2 for these types of tones? I’m also able to get that at a good price - or should I try the Behringer?
You’re welcome! I love talking gear (: Yes the only downside of the hm-300 is the plastic, might be a headache sometimes, but it sounds great as far as I’ve seen it online. I wanna get one and film It against my hm-2s to see how they compare for shoegaze. Maybe you could change the plastic for a metal housing, but I’m not exactly sure how to do it. If so, it’d be a great great pedal. The DS-2 is a great pedal for shoegaze bro, as it is for grunge 🤤 it amazes me how well this pedal does on these genres, if you want to get one you’ll not regret (; I demo it here (ruclips.net/video/Qr10DVoICek/видео.html) in my shoegaze Distortion shootout, I play a mbv song (only tomorrow) through it. Sounds great! You won’t go wrong with either of the pedals bro (;

There are plenty of fuzz flavors out there that are also great, as you said (; you’re very much served by them as well
Hi Randy, that’s exactly it (: it has lots of options regarding pickups, but as someone who has used a tele and a sg for a long time, I tend to use just the neck pickup or the bridge pickup most of the time 😅 so it’s just the Lead “mode” on the jag on this one

I've read that she did record some guitar parts for Loveless and wrote riffs for the album - even though Shields recorded most of them - along with singing about a third of the lyrics. I was told that she would advice Kevin on how to record her parts if she didn't like it. She did record guitars for all albums before Loveless along with Kevin since she joined the band as far as I'm aware of.. \: sorry if I'm wrong though, but I honestly think she did.

\: sorry if I'm wrong though, but I honestly think she did.
said by adam moulder.,bilinda did not record any guitar...just voice...it's all kevin shields...even kevin play the bass in that record.,sory kid....
Thanks for the info and your comment. Could you please provide me a link or a source of some sort so I can make a fixed comment about it? And what’s the need for “kid”? I’m sorry I was misinformed about it bro 😅 come on
