I've seen all of these multiple times been listening for over 10 years and still listen every single day. I don't think I'll ever get bored. I love these lads. They help me through tough times
At the end of the first series it’s very wholesome, at the end of the second series Karl wants to quit. Completely different endings. Prefer series 1 as a whole.
I mean, you’d get frustrated with Karl as well. He’s an adult that requires the patience of a kid to interact with. He’s a moron that is funny on accident. Probably has an undiagnosed learning disability. Always seems to be missing the crucial detail..
The last minute is so sweet. Mr. Ben book he's so proud of that he wants to give to Ricky and then borrow it back to finish reading and the chat-up lines book for Steve. I agree with someone who posted elsewhere saying it's probable that Suzanne bought the gifts, but Karl is so happy and genuine giving them and Ricky and Steve are so warmed.
Been listening to these guys for 15 years, i probably would not have liked it when it was on 20 years ago. I have listened to all of these hundreds of times and probably will always listen 👍
I’ve been listening to these for over 15 years now, every year. I totally agree - it’s one of those constants that’s just quite soothing. A home comfort.
+Man Moth I have done the same many a time and had (mad😜) dreams involving people talking the anecdotes and conversations from the show. Weird innit. x
Have used these to get to sleep every night since about 2015 but, since I normally fall asleep halfway through, there’s still loads of bits I haven’t heard and am still discovering
@@Scallion_D oh you’d be surprised. There were tons of tarty girls in my year 7 class who’d done things I’d never heard of at that age. And that was in 2002.
Completely agreed, and well put. Venom. Indeed. I absolutely adore when Karl's unfiltered, sincerity comes out. There was no script, no planning, just pure thought and emotion. Love it.
36:10 the orginal lizard & scorpion/"Egypt Bloke" story which somehow turned into "little monkeys under the ground or something" when Karl tried telling it again in S2E14.
It always makes me laugh at 16:50 you can hear Steve say bloody hell under his breath when he realised he'd dropped a clanger with the cash in hand announcement
For week after week in the first series, Steve especially went out of his way to impress upon Karl the importance of being inquisitive, not accepting everything at face value. Fuck of a lot of good it did.
Karl is observably more inquisitive than Steve. He can’t articulate himself the way Steve can but Steve has all the standard liberal points of view that you could expect him to. Nothing inquisitive or imaginative at all.
Ricky Gervais, Steve Merchant and Karl Pilkington for the last time… A phrase we’ve all heard so many times and lulled us into a false sense of security that they’d always be back 😔
I'm surprised Karl actually backed down on the queen swearing, usually when he's told that something was a lie he says stuff like "I think there's always a bit of truth in these stories" or "they say there's no smoke without fire" Genuinely surprises me that Ricky and Steve straight up telling him that they were lying was enough to stop him believing it. I think that's the only time he's stopped believing something.
Especially the episode in season 2 where Karl really breaks down because Ricky is having a go at him the whole time because Karl sided with management over that rejected skit. Such a tense episode. The friction was mostly between Steve and Karl. Still some great episodes in season 2 though. And the birth of Monkey News, Rockbusters, and the Film Thing.
I feel like why this season was the introduction to Karl and Karl at his most happiest which is really nice, Season 2 has the best character arc we go through a man who just constantly gets worn down by his two other presenters to the point where he has to go to Hastings to escape from it, we didn't know at the time if the show was coming back then in season 3 they wrapped it up revelling Karl came back but he needed Mondays off to recoup after this show
It was in series 2 that the other two stopped trying as much and ran out of things to say, and dumped all the responsibility on Karl who wasn't really up for it.
Spot on. They then came back for season 4 which was just hours of treating Karl like shit and then Ricky fucking off to present Live 8. I really hate how the radio show finished.
I listened to this show as it came out. XFM was such a great station. Christian O'connor on the breakfast show and this or J.L.C on Saturdays. It didn't hurt that the indi music scene was great too.
