    That plumbing at the beginning was hilarious 🤣
    I got a call from the wife about 3 years ago that water was leaking under the sink. I said just call a plumber. She called a big company who sent a guy and he replaced the water lines, all the drains, and stopped the leak. But I had never seen anything like that before. It looked like he took one of every fitting he had and glued them together. He used so much glue that it dripped on the bottom of the cabinet.
    I called them to complain and the foreman came out. He just shook his head and said I will fix this. He comes back with a box of fittings and a cordless Sawzall tocut everything out. In about 30-45 minutes he was done and it definitely looked right.

    Great save and video! If the plumbing is good (plastic, not metal or iron) than cleanouts are not necessary. I usually use a slip fitting at the wall and all plumbing to be slip after that. I dry fit first before any glue in, less mistakes then. Usually use pvc, unless absolutely necessary. I do like the 1 1/2” p trap with the 1 1/4 slip nut etc. Thanks….Jim
    PS…..my current home is 19 years old, all pvc and only have cleaned out a few pvc p traps, never needed a snake ever.

    • @ThatFixItGuy
      @ThatFixItGuy  2 года назад +2

      I usually do the same but sometimes the cabinets are super deep or wonky in other ways like this one. I agree that pvc or abs done right is much better drain line these day, but I have seen bad clogs started by one pipe not being reamed at a fitting

    • @ronaldshank7589
      @ronaldshank7589 Год назад +1

      As for dry-fitting first: I totally agree with you on that! Can you imagine somebody thinking that they've got everything all glued into place, without making sure, and then really losing their cool, because they made some kind of a mistake somewhere along the line? Then, it's back to Lowe's, or The Home Depot, or wherever, to buy more stuff so they can try again... simply because they forgot to measure everything out properly, and dry-test it first?
      I think that you and I agree on one thing: Better safe, than sorry! Dry-fit and dry-test first. THEN break out the glue, and Git-R-Done!!!

      Made me wonder if whoever put that screwed up mess in place, was on something. Either that, or they just flat-out didn't know what they were doing! I'm not even a certified plumber, but even I know, that the way that that first plumbing line was set up, could've been a potential recipe for disaster! That thing looked like a plastic snake, the way that it went down, then up, then down again. Totally pathetic!
      Thankfully, our guy here got things straightened out, and did it the right way.
      Even at 60 years young, I could definitely learn how to do this kind of stuff. When you get the gist of it, it's fun to try to do stuff like this. It's like putting a Jigsaw Puzzle together. All you have to do, is think things through, and go from there.

      A toilet flushing on the same network could siphon the trap dry, and defeat the entire purpose of a trap.
      Those accordion traps are also known to fail all the time. They collect a lot of sludge and clog, given the varying cross section. Plus the plastic walls are very flimsy.

  • @Gnefitisis
    @Gnefitisis Год назад

    First mistake us you didn't use a rubber collar before transitioning to ABS and you didn't prime any pipes before glue.
    Second, used ABS glue on PVC (also no priming). You should probably use transition glue, if you're going to be lazy.
    It's going to like hell.
