This used to be so easy in the old gmail, but I couldn't figure it out in the new. Now I can stop tearing my hair out, thanks to your clear, concise, no nonsense explanation. And a big thank you for not adding background music, personal anecdotes or your cute toddler in the picture:-)
Maybe this is somewhere in the video or comments, but if the steps don't work, try refreshing both the contacts and gmail pages.... It worked for me. Thank you!
This is lovely if you have 5 contacts. I have 273 contacts and need to find 24 of them to put in a group. Fortunately, when you pointed out how to switch back to the old version, you saved me. I did that, because I know I can past all 24 email addresses (from a previous email) in a little box to add them to the group. Done. I hope the old version doesn't go away, or there is a way to do this in the new version.
Thank you so much for your help. I enjoy a lot when people explain things with less words and going to the point. You are one of those. Wishing you all the best!
Thank you for making this video. This is a regular question that our staff often ask me, so I have been in need of a good how-to. This saved me a lot of time from making one myself and is better than the one I'd have made anyway. Cheers mate!
thank you for teaching me this, But do you know how to add email addresses that are not already in your gmail and create a email for all of them to go in?
Thanks Jamie! Of course! It makes perfect sense not to put a "Contacts LInk" on the side bar, but to hide it under the apps button. Then to change a "Group" to a "Label". :-)
Thank you for this tutorial, it helped me create an email group in minutes, I had tried for hours before I found your video which is very clear and easy to understand, thank you.
Your tutoring video has proven to be a huge help! I have beat my head against the wall trying to figure this out on my own. Thanks to your easy-to-follow instructions, I am now equipped with a major shortcut to save me a ton of time and effort. A MAJOR KUDOS TO YOU!
Extremely helpful. Without your right on video, and only with Google's support text explanations, I would never have made my 40 persons group! Thank you so much!
Thanks for this. I usually hate video tutorials because they go over so much "background you already know" this was informative and yet brief. Great tutorial.
Thanks so much! I was struggling to figure this out!! 🥺 this has made my life so much easier. I thought, though, that the label would stay & everyone’s email address wouldn’t appear. To use your example, in the recipients line, it would just say “Example Group”. Interesting approach Google. Maybe im just old school? 🤷🏽♀️
Thank you very very much. Your explanation and descriptions are excellent. I have used other websites and spent about an hour figuring out the complicated instructions. I just watched your short video and I GOT IT! You are an excellent teacher. Thanks!!!
I think the reason you don't know is because (no direspect intended) you are not in app development, devOpps, or data science. Gmail's dev team is not alone in making a switch like this as the app world moves to more universal standards in data management. The good news is that you do not need to understand the "why" to benefit. Whenever you are able to email someone who doesn't use the same mail service provider as you, when you are able to move all your phone data when you switch from Samsung to Apple, when you are able to use Netflix to watch TV...hell, ANYTIME you use a service online, you are benefiting from the progress apps are making when making their data more universal.
That works well if you have a limited number of contacts. But imagine trying to create a group with just ten of your 3,000 contacts, searching for each one individually and adding them. In the past, you could copy a list of email addresses and simply paste them into a group. Easy peasy, done. Gmail has now become unmanageable for my business purposes in this respect.
What a great way to add addresses to a group, sorry, label. THANK YOU. In the future, you might consider pointing out whether the feature you describe works in the browser or the app. This one does not seem to work in the gmail app on iPad.
Adding a large number of contacts at once: Thank you for this but could not figure how to add a lot of contacts at once, as copy/pasting from a spreadsheet into a new group. A work around is to switch back to the old version (link at very bottom of left column below the labels). Open the new group, click the person with a plus image, paste all emails, switch back to new "Contacts" version.
when i see "improved" i straight away know it will be worse, the obvious will be no longer obvious etc...who calls a group a label ?..label is an identifier not an object...
You will first need to create contacts for them. If you already have those contacts stored somewhere in "X" ("X" could be a spreadsheet, different email service, or many other places), then look up "How to export contacts from X and import to Gmail." Otherwise, you will need to crate them manually. To do so, look up "How to bulk create contacts for Gmail?"
Nice presentation. Thanks, it is indeed useful. But one clarification is that if I create a group, is it possible for the members to use the same group name or they also have to create it in their Gmail. This situation arises for project teams.
Thank you very much, can you tell if, when I send an email to the group, will the others see all the emails, if yes, how do I keep that info private? Can I Blind cc?
You use to be able to copy and paste all the emails you want into a group. Now you have to do it one by one?! thanks for making my day longer google...
Well done and very professional. Can members of the group/label see other members' email addresses at the top of the email they receive? How do you use bcc for the group to keep other members' information private?

Great job! Straight forward video, no extra talking or comments. The direction was clear and easy to follow! Thank you!
Thank you so much! Creating groups is certainly not intuitive. I needed your clear, step-by-step instructions to help me through this.

Very helpful -- thank you! Gmail has been a nightmare after using outlook for years. Had no idea how to even find contacts until you came along.
Thanks for this. I usually hate video tutorials because they go over so much "background you already know" this was informative and yet brief. Great tutorial.

Thank you - couldn't have done this without you! Why Gmail has to make a simple task so complicated I don't know.

Dear Sir, How do I create an email group list for non contact list members. Which means those who are not in my contact. But only have their email ID.
You will first need to create contacts for them. If you already have those contacts stored somewhere in "X" ("X" could be a spreadsheet, different email service, or many other places), then look up "How to export contacts from X and import to Gmail."
