Every one of these examples shows a drop down menu with "Filter Messages Like These" but my Gmail doesn't have this option in that menu! Talk about frustrating.
Gmail's own Help page on Filters only instructs the user how to apply a label but neglects to mention the part about skipping the Inbox. Thanks for clarifying!
I use Gmail on my phone but use Apple Mail on my computer and unfortunately the use of labels and anything that relies on labels only work with the Gmail client so when on Apple Mail all that stuff I filtered out just dumps into my inbox. I was hoping there was a way to actually move items to another folder so physically they are not in the inbox but that does not appear to be the case. If someone knows of a way to do that I would love to hear it.

To get certain email addresses to auto go to a label, this is what I did...... when you go into gmail, on the left, click "MORE", then click "CREATE NEW LABEL" and in next box, Name your label and click "CREATE" Now click "MANAGE LABELS" .. at the top of the page that comes up, click on "FILTERS AND BLOCKED ADDRESSES" Then scroll down and click on "CREATE A NEW FILTER".. In the box that comes up, put the email address of the emails you want to go into that label (folder) and then click on "CREATE" on the next page that comes up, put a check mark in the box for "SKIP THE INBOX (ARCHIVE IT) and go down and put check mark in the box for "APPLY THE LABEL" and in the dropdown box click the name of the folder you want it to go to... Then click on "CREATE FILTER" Good luck... it worked for me...

Thank you, The Automatically sending old emails are not working. i have to again archive it after labeling them. Am I doing wrong ?
