I really need some help!!!! I just purchased the TM-281A and the circuit board is completely different. Are you familiar with the new board. The unit was bought on Ebay.
You’d be surprised if the transmit distance of the baofengs. Got a buddy on my 281, he had the baofeng with a whip I had him from 8 miles away in the mountains.
I just ordered a tm281a thinking it would receive and transmit off of the Offroad frequencies.. So now after the fact of ordering it lol and watching this video I would absolutely have to modify it for it to work on the off-road frequencies??
Does anyone know if the Kenwood tm-281a MARS mod can be done on the newer Chinese (knockoff) versions to transmit above 149 mhz? If so, what's the process for this?
Mike, if you are seeing these posts, sure could use some info! I have 3 "older" TM-281a's, as per your video. The MARS mod was EASY to do - and worked like a charm. I've since, as did "Gerald" in this original post, purchase a few more TM-281a's, but, lo and behold, TOTALLY NEW motherboard design! If ANYONE knows if there is a new version of the MARS update, would DEARLY love to know how! and no, I am NOT a licensed ham op, but YES, we (our trucking company) ARE licensed for commercial radios in our trucks. Frequencies of interest are the LADD (trucking) channels - LADD 1 (154.100) in particular. If ANYONE can help, THANKS !!!!!
I was just wondering I have a tm281 from China and mine transmitted on the whole range there so after watching this I was curious to see witch resistors are in my radio So I opened it up and in mine 767and 766 Are missing. The reason I am looking into this is I bought 2 more radios but they are limited like your and I am wondering witch ones to remove now the 768 or the 2 767 and 766?
Hey bro how can I get ahold of you to program my 281? I want it set up for the race channels also. I’m assuming we aren’t that far away from each other because I go to Ocotillo and Glamis as well
I noticed that when I pulled it up on the computer and started laughing. I think I had the camera in the superview setting and it clearly is doing me no favors haha.

Sorry for the late reply, haven't been logged into this account for a while. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the newer ones.

Isn’t the SWR through the roof on the modified band frequencies?
