This is part of what I call the "Vocal Nuances". She's never been known for her singing in general. But all of a sudden she has a live performance that requires vocal skills and she kills it.
Erotica is hands down THE best Madonna record. I thought she was OK before it came out, BUT when I heard this, it knocked my socks off. The entire record is flawless- start to finish. It has a consistent mood and groove throughout, and that is difficult to achieve. That said, each song is very different, while still maintaining that mood. One of my favorite records of all time.

I used to think also that it was mainly her attitude but started to hear people listening to her and most saying (young people who didn't know her) that she has a singular voice , so it's about attitude + voice tone. Both the drummer (the great Omar Hakim plays drums here) and bass player are professional session musicians. You can't get better players than this. Madonna was wise to get them for this t.v. appearance
