The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah has released a short film titled, "The Bald Eagle That Would Not Quit". In January of 2015, a very, very, sick bald eagle arrived at the rescue center. Initially, wildlife rehabilitator, Martin Tyner, did not think the bird would survive. Over nearly two months, the bald eagle continued to fight and, against all odds, grew stronger and healthier.
This film features footage of examinations and feedings as the bald eagle recovers. During sessions with the bald eagle, Martin shares extensive information about wildlife rehabilitation and notes positive signs of recovery.

🔺 Our Mission 🔺
Founded in 1997 in Cedar City Utah, we are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and education.
🔹Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release 🔹
The Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (SWF) cares for more than 100 sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife annually. Restoring them to health and returning them to the wild is our primary goal.
🔹 Informing, Educating and Inspiring 🔹
The SWF provides over 100 educational programs reaching over 30,000 people annually. We believe providing educational outreach programs to schools, scout groups and community events, with focus on children and families, will make the greatest impact in preserving our wildlife, the environment, our public lands and our resources for future generations to enjoy.
🔹 Martin Tyner 🔹
Since age twelve, with a bird on his arm, Martin has captivated audiences sharing his knowledge and experience of his wildlife friends.
At age nineteen, Martin was hired as curator of birds of prey at Busch Gardens, CA. He also worked in the movie and television industry training big cats, elephants, primates, sea mammals and raptors.
“One of my greatest childhood fantasies was the desire to create a personal friendship with a wild eagle. I found myself with a love and fascination for these powerful creatures.”
Martin Tyner is a federally licensed falconer, eagle falconer, wildlife rehabilitator, wildlife propagator, and wildlife and environmental educator.
He has been providing wildlife and environmental programs throughout the western United States, to schools, scouts and community groups for over fifty years.
“Grandpa believed in a very simple philosophy; that a person should get up every morning and do good. Doing good means that you do well for others and doing well means that you do good for yourself. There is nothing wrong with doing well, but Grandpa always believed in doing good.”
Martin's book, Healer of Angels, reflects back on his life: from a young boy terrified of birds to becoming the first man in North America licensed to train a wild golden eagle in the ancient art of falconry.
Through a heartwarming collection of true stories he describes his challenging transformation from a shy dyslexic teenager, to the founder and CEO of the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

THIS WAS AN EXQUISITE PRESENTATION OF THE DEDICATED
REHABILITATION OF ONE OF AMERICA’S MOST ICONIC BIRDS;
THE STRONG AND
MIGHTY BALD EAGLE! YOU AND YOUR WIFE PROVIDED US WITH AN UP-CLOSE-AND-PERSONAL VIEW.
YOU HAD AMAZING PATIENCE,
KNOWLEDGE, AND “ BED-SIDE -MANOR”. TO SEE YOU AND THE
EAGLE TOGETHER, WAS INCREDIBLE!
YOU BOTH HAD A GREAT AMOUNT OF RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER, AND WITHOUT ALL OF THE ABOVE, THAT BIRD WOULD NEVER LIVE TO FLY AGAIN!
ONE COMPLAINT! WHEN THE EAGLE WAS FINALLY LET TO FLY AWAY TO
LIVE THE LIFE HE WAS INTENDED,
THE VIEWERS MISSED IT! TO ME, IT WAS A HUGE PART OF THE REHABILITATION!
WHY DID WE NOT SEE HER FLY??‼️‼️
Most awesome job... rescue is the type of work I would love to do... animals are purity at it's finest ... people are a whole different world to deal with... may you ,sir, be blessed to rescue these beautiful animals for many many years to come...🤗🤗🤗🤩🤩🤩
Thank you for showing us the video and how you take care of the eagles this is my favorite bird I get to see alot of eagles living in Wyoming and go out on eagle counts every year ❤🦅👍
Thank you for making this video. You are an amazing man. God bless
This man is a true legend, doesn’t want fame or praise just has true love for the animals, so much respect

This is amazing , watching an Eagle so weak was sad. It’s exciting seeing release , Eagle is strong majestic and ready to fly. Thank you rescue center.

The ultimate reward in life is to find one’s purpose and live through it. This man is a living example of that. Thank you for sharing. Jack.
great man does wonderful work for the animals wish there were more like him the world would be a better place
I do not understand how anyone could ever want to shoot an eagle or any other animal for that matter. I could never do that. Thank you so much for your educational programs! You do a great job!
Inspiring. Thank U for the work U & your wife do. We discovered a Birds Of Prey brochure at our local Coeur d'Alene Library & that has led to BOP bringing out an Eagle, Falcon Hawk & Owl to our kids' elementary school so that the kids can see these majestic & awe inspiring birds. & with the hope they'll get involved down the road. BOP has their rescue & rehabilitation center in St Marie's Idaho. When I saw a bald eagle at the Woodland Park Zoo we teared up because it is such an amazing animal & huge. Words cannot describe seeing one up close.
Hi, thanks for your interest and glad you have a local resource to learn about Birds of Prey. We do a lot of lot of presentations with our Wildlife Ambassadors because of the impression they make in person.
God bless you Sir, and the work you do.
Hi Matthew, thanks for watching and the kind feedback!
Such a beautiful beautiful bird
thank you.
We need to look after each other. Enough said.
Thank you.
I would have ten pair of gloves on, a fencing face shield .... you are one brave dude!

You said it!
There are a few wildlife rescue reservations that offer volunteer opportunities. I wouldnt expect to be paid.
Lyn B ....I’m not the person your responding back to, however I just wanted to comment on your post.
Ya know, if I could have such an opportunity to work at a place like this, I would GLADLY volunteer no questions asked. I wouldn’t ask for a penny nor except a penny for any of my work. My pride alone being able to work with such a beautiful, intelligent, powerful & mystical animal/bird/HALK would be all the payment I need. Knowing such beauty is safe and well taken care of is all my pleasure.
Just wow!
Great 👍 God bless you 🙏❤️

I found a shot great horned owl in my yard. And no one wanted to help it out. So I did it on my own. I was able to release it back into the wild. I am a native American, and my grandfather taught me well. He always told me wild things belong in the wild. It still shows up in my one of my trees. Or at least believe it is the same owl.
Your that great horned owls savior, and thank goodness for people like you. I have rescued dogs, cats, and some birds that no one else would help.
So glad you were able to save it. My gpa used to pick up small birds in East TN hit by cars or such. He nursed a Blue Jay back to health and it came back at evening every day. Sat on the back of his chair and would sit on the rail. Once it started to lose light he would fly off.
He did this for 2 years.
Great job Buster👏🦉
Thank you. Snd, Happy nee year. (:D).

Day 18 it still looks pretty as sick. I've dealt with sick and injured parrots. It's amazing how fast they can go from perching to dropping dead. How fortunate to have an experienced and educated person like this gentleman.
It's hard to see them so weak
@@GowildlifeOrg the job is inporten, but it can be hard on the heart to...
They say there's no such thing as a "sick sheep". You either have healthy sheep or dead sheep. Seems to me birds can be that way too. I am amazed & enthralled with folks like this that can pull them back from the brink of death!
i tried to save a starving stray kitten in the same way & it died on my desk after 4 days. it was LA so none of the rescue organizations were answering their phones. if i’d been able to give it to this guy it probably would’ve survived. i didn’t have enough knowledge & resources to keep something so fragile alive. feeding it isn’t sufficient if it’s already weak & given up. i wish urban areas had these types of sanctuaries

Yes honoured by the high priest of the eagle council in make believe world after death :D
I’ve worked a bit with Macaws in my earlier years and it is an absolute treasure to be able to comfort and help heal a rescued creature such as a large bird. Never had the privilege of any time with eagles but can imagine the effort involved in rehabilitating a bald eagle. This man does everything the right way, people should understand they are not nor meant to be “pets”. I salute you sir, your efforts are laudable.

Exactly! These people do an amazing job and yet some idiot passes a law to say sanctuary's can't keep them to live a happy safe life with love and nurturing , they have to go in to an education programme or be destroyed! ? It's that human that needs to be put into an education programme! Instead of playing god with innocent wild life. Bravo to this man I hope he makes it .

And to be honest I’ve never met more lovely people than the ones I met in Kentucky. After a short time there I found I was gonna out of my way to strike up conversations and enjoying the people I was around.

Fast forward 21:20 "When the eagle attacks you and tries to kill you, that's a really, really, good sign"
Honestly the eagle was imo acting like a chick. The way it was drinking, the way it got fed etc.
The attacking parent part is part of that too. Juvenile eagles do that to their parents to sort of signal their independence.
Not saying that's def the case, but it was close enough that I found it note worthy.
@@randomnobody660 juvenile bald eagles are a different color, they do not receive their recognizable white feathers until around 5 years of age. Baby bald eagles leave the nest around 10 - 12 weeks of age so they can live on their own for years before their adult feathers come in.

I’m curious what drawbacks are keeping you from raising mice for your own use? I’m sure you’ve thought about it a thousand times or more by now, so I’m simply curious what is preventing that?
I’d imagine keeping them housed, clean of illness, etc. would be the expensive portion for so many mice.
Mice are messy, smelly and need care and set-up. At present, we do not have the resources to raise them along with everything else.
He buys huge amount so is not so expensive I hope
Yes I don’t spend 18 bucks a meal all the time and it didn’t come with drinks too.
I got the chance to see a Bald eagle nest in the wild when I was walking along a river. I didn't expect it to be the size of a small car. There is a reason people hold these animals in such high regard, other than them being the national bird.
They definitely have a presence!

Judah Boyd eagles are not the size of cars. 😊
@@dougroberts9821 The nest was the size of a small car, not the eagle.
Doug Roberts Reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit huh lol
About fifty-five or sixty years ago I met two eagles standing on a very high perch in San Francisco, California. I began to sing for them a song, as I played the zither. They joined in, singing, in harmony, and marching, and its seems that their wings spread just a bit. As the song ended they each were standing on one leg, and that's how they remained as I left them.
How beautiful. I've experienced coyote in the desert who sang with us...on key!
What awesome story
I love that! You must’ve loved it also! Thank you for sharing this.
Some people would not believe you I am sure, but if you go clear back to the book of Genesis it would appear that in the original creation man and animals were able to communicate freely with each other. There are individuals and moments for that communication barrier seems to come down, and I believe with your song you found one of those moments! What a beautiful testimony of joy!
What a great story 🤗

They just want to get away and back into the wild where they belong
Yup, bald eagles aren't known for killing really large prey as far as I know. Golden Eagles, that's where it can be scary, a Golden eagle can kill a deer, so this Bald eagle most definitely could have killed this man, yikes 😳
@@viktorbihar5384 Not quite. He would have to fly off with him and that's not happening.
I love the bald eagles, I was lucky to see several in Alaska. I was taught by a guide how to float down a river with binoculars looking for two tennis balls in the giant tree tops. It was all of the nesting pairs. We saw many near the shoreline when the tide went out and they were feeding on sea life that was being exposed with the water out. The animal life in Alaska is just amazing. I hope he makes it. My father worked in a laboratory in the Defense Industry and he contracted lead poisoning and I don’t think they did anything other than monitor it. I can’t stand that mentality oh there is a bird let’s shoot it, that is about as dumb as you can be. They have been seriously endangered and have just in the last few years making a comeback. How can people take them for granted when they are so majestic.
Yeah, in the Philippines there's only around 600 Philippine eagles left due to stupidity of the locals and that mentality to shoot them for food! These eagles are the biggest in the world, mightier than the golden eagle, sadly we can no longer release them due to humans around.
Thanks for your service to nature. Love from Germany!

This is so bittersweet. I'll bet anything that a lot of people (admittedly, me included) would harbor some fantasy about having a wild animal's gratitude, about forging a bond... which is exactly what you won't get and exactly what you shouldn't strive for. This man knows that full well, and has been through that scenario repeatedly for decades.
How many of us would be able to go through this heart-wrenching experience the right way on principle of helping the animal?
Sir, your proffessionalism and commitment is admirable and inspiring. I wish you all the best for the years to come.
Thank you for your interest. Martin keeps distance from rehab animals, but he also has many Wildlife Ambassadors who he can enjoy a closer relationship with.
Not completely fantasy. Get into falconry
@@gerardclementine5330Oh yeah, I definitely see how falconry could provide that. It's just that with my post I meant a standard case of animal rescue like the one in the video. Hardly every falcon rescued will become a falconer's companion.
I would. I aspire to be an ornithologist and maybe some other ologist.
My sister. She did it for a squirrel. She knew nothing about the creatures, but went and educated herself when she found a sickly baby one and she stayed up without sleep to make sure it was fed as often as it needed and cared for and kept at the right temperature and all it needed while also making sure it would be able to return to the wild when it was big enough and strong enough and she slowly started as it got big enough, taking it outside and getting it used to being out doors and it would spend more and more time out there until finally it never came back in and had it's own family over time, etc and she never expected thanks. Her thanks was in seeing a sickly creature grow healthy and survive thanks to her efforts. That was enough for her. She was an incredible person who helped animals ever since she was a little girl. The world lost a lot when she died. I'm glad there are still some people like this.
Made my heart melt...instantly love that man. He should be on TV all the time.

Well he gained half its weight in only a few months. Does that make half the meat young and tender or would it be even tougher because of the constant stress from being sick?
@@benhardwiesner6963 ??? He means his care and compassion with the birds.
Laura R Barrow And I didnt.
I only wondered if freshly grown meat on an old creature would be like a young creatures flesh or if its old from the getgo
Kindest man on the internet. I love this channel.
Great to hear! Thanks you!
@@GowildlifeOrg its true, love watching the video.

Do not touch call game and wild life they know what to do we do not God Bless them they are appointed by GOD to help him with his wild life. Thanks to you guys BLESS YOU AND THE SPECIAL ANIMALS YOU HELP.
What a
What a beautiful story and what a generous patient man to do such a thing I think everyone should see this video thank you
that was a touching and heart felt video by one hell of a caretaker , the fact that you've seen so many die and still keep at it is a real mark of dedication and i'm quite impressed by how often you stated that a wild animal acting tame is deathly ill, unless you know what you're doing it's almost better to kill the poor creature than let it suffer more, it's someone like you who goes the extra thousand miles and makes the attempt... what an AMAZING man , to dedicate his whole life to educating and releasing these into the wild, thank you sir
Thank you for your interest and kind words. A whole lot of people help us help critters!
Absolutely one of the most informative docs I've ever seen. Good job and keep up the good work.
Agreed
The Federal Laws need Changing on our National bird! This is insane, to hear this information. How do we as We The People.. start the process to get this horrible law changed in stopping the euthanizing of our National Symbol?
You reminded me of a vet I had here on the East Coast for my small animals. The animals always seemed to know somehow that Doc was trying to help them. We miss him since he passed on, but you brought back some wonderful memories, thanks! The animals have no better friends than dedicated people like you. God Bless You!
Hi Fran, thank you for the kind words, we're sorry for your loss. We appreciate your interest!
Growing up in the sixties there was a lot of news about eagles and other birds of prey being
poisoned from DDT. At that time I developed an interest in how majestic the bald eagle looked. When I went to basic training I was sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. And for the first time in my life I was able to see many bald eagles. I appreciate your efforts.
Thanks for your interest. Let's hope things keep improving for them...
You're an amazing person for devoting your life to all of these incredible animals. Thank you for everything that you do. Your videos are so educational too. I enjoy them through the tears (both happy and sad tears).
Thank you Amy, we appreciate your interest. A whole lot of people help us help critters.
Yes
It was so good to see him actually take the food off of you himself. When you have to basically force feed them you see their spirit almost breaking, they stop even holding their heads up. I didn't understand what was meant when wildlife rescuers meant when they'd say an animal was too far gone to save even though it was still breathing. But seeing that eagles reaction to the force feeding, even though it was the only thing keeping him alive, you could see it was so sad and extremely stressed out by it, that it was suffering.
I just want to say that as part Native American I thank you for your service to our eagles!! Wish that there was more as giving as you!!

YOU SIR ARE A HERO !!
Thank you Lily!
I just watched this video for the second time and it made me realize how powerful and beautiful our nations symbolic bird is. It breaks my heart to think an American can shoot this bird and still feel like a true American. I was compelled to donate $100.00 to the cause and I encourage everyone who watches this mans dedication to these national treasures and their well being to do the same. Thank you sir for your true compassion and love for the bald eagle 🦅
Thank you Jodana, we appreciate your interest and thank you for your donation!
Thank you! If I could donate money this guy would be the man I would donate too! Eagles mean the world to me. I love animals but eagles are the animals I adore the most. And watching this guy help so many and save so many has warmed my heart and helped me during these rough times ! The world needs more men like this man. I'm from mass so not close ar all, or I would volunteer to help. But I would gladly move to work there and do my part! God bless this man and his work! When I can donate I will be,!!
I often wonder why God doesn’t give me a winning lottery ticket because I swear I’d give 99% away to stuff like this lol
As a non American why do you call them BALD eagles
@@countof3everybodyOD 💯💯😅🙌🏼 same!
What kind of a person with thumbs down this video? There truly is some sorry ass people on this planet. But thank God there’s a lot more great wonderful people
Thanks for your interest, Rick!
I was thinking the same thing looking at the thumbs down...it's a amazing thing to see this beautiful creature come back to life
Truly, I give benefit of the doubt and sometimes people click the "thumbs-down button" when a video makes them feel sad. Maybe a small few(maybe 1 or two?) were malicious in intent...but i think the thumbs down were an impulse-click of people who felt the hurt this video was able to conjure from within all of us who watched it.
necaacen... He would eat like this in the wild, he would not survive on a vegetarian diet. He was dying from lead poisoning, obviously caused by humans. This man dedicates his life, day and night to help save these innocent animals. Please take the time to research before making a comment like this. This man deserves nothing but respect for what he does.
Eric Hopkins, I totally respect what you’re saying... I get it, we’re all screwed up (Humans)... and this situation proves it. This eagle wasn’t dying of natural causes, nature wasn’t taking its natural course... he was found dying from lead poisoning 😫.
Bless you for saving this beautiful and fierce eagle that represents our beautiful country. You are all such lovely people for rescuing all the creatures that you do, truly inspiring.

"If he doesn't attack you there's something wrong with him." Lol
Steve Irwin says Hi!
@@lukesball1 This is true. lol The guy has balls.
Considering that bird could take his face off with one attack, that takes a lot of courage to rescue such an animal.
Not when it's knocking on death's door...

I bet michael Jackson knew how much damage that eagles beak can do to a human nose.
I wonder about the future of the ggrreeaat bird? Will it ever fly free??????
@Jack park Nope but those talons are.

GM. Just saw this video although it was years ago. I am so touched by your amazing ability to work with these magnificent and majestic animals. You have saved thousands of beautiful birds that would otherwise perish. You and your wife are definitely angels sent to help these helpless animals. God bless you for all you do, for all those you save and for not giving up on this majestic bird. I'm sure releasing him was difficult but very, very rewarding. 💕💕💕
