Mitchum gets my vote as THE Alpha Male of the 20th Century. Masculine beyond words, handsome beyond description and.....oh my God.....THAT VOICE...!!!!
I wouldn't go that far. He was awarded the Cecil B DeMille in 1992 and lived a great life, was friends with Elvis Presley, drinking buddies with John Huston and of course Lee Marvin and John Wayne.
Letterman asking Mitchum to "leave his voice in the dressing room" once again demonstrated the power and brilliance of his wit. For Chrisakes, his show is built for laughs and all guests know this before signing on. So give Letterman a break!.....all you sticks-in-the-mud who can't appreciate his sense of humor!
Surprised that he talked; he normally answered "yup" or "nope". One of the most underrated actors of all time; his little finger had more acting ability than most of the current stock of "luvvies", A great man; actor; poet.He never took himself seriously. Classical Stephen
i hope the guitarist that mitch compliments at the start of this has that on his calling card! if it were me it'd be my entire CV: "Robert Mitchum said I'm a hell of a guitar player - what did he think about you?"... imagine the gigs i'd get!
I've not seen many of Mitch's films but three of the ones I have, are on my list of top films of all time. Night of the Hunter The Friends of Eddie Coyle Cape Fear Anyone In films today...try beating that list.
It's short one that's considered to be among the top film noir of all time called "Out of the Past" with Mitchum, Jane Greer and Kirk Douglas. A must see for sure.
what a human being - all the rough life and his sense of humour - irony - he must have had a woman who loved him - he too is my favourite famous person
EverettDudgeon138 He's much older here, and I doubt he would want something like that haunting him. He said he was in Ireland at the time, a small town called Dingle, and since there wasn't much to do there, drinking would've been a very common thing.
has only seen 3 movies in 10 years! , its funny about actors, or certain actors. they dont watch themselves, they are not into movies, they just see it as a job, and you know , they are right, it is just a job! you turn up, do your bit , then leave.. the money is amazing at the top, so why give it up such an easy gig..
Why was Mitchum even on this show? I came here following a Mitchum link- I've watched a few Letterman interviews, the guy has no substance, he cannot deviate from his scripted questions and therefore misses great opportunitues to mine the experience and natural charm and gregarious nature of some of his guests, his whole show is aimed at perpetuating his own celebrity. He wishes Mitchum a condescending farewell; Mitchum is, however, gracious having more class than Letterman will ever know/ have.
I've always hated Letterman as an interviewer, he seems to treat his guests terribly to try and evoke an emotional response - Mitch was too cool to let it get to him I suppose. Still wished Oliver Reed had clocked him in the interview he done with him.
@@plasticweapon That was like 12 years ago, so I'm not quite sure I remember! 😆 I think it was hearing that accent from a white guy. And I'm pretty sure I didn't know he was also a singer till then.

@@NoOne-kr4jc dogs have to “prove” who the alpha will be.
@@NoOne-kr4jc how do you feel about betas?
Charles Bronson and Robert Mitchum are my favorites. They both have the star quality of those before them and the naturalness of those to come.
Fun fact: They hated each other.
He is my favorite Movie Star of all time. SO underrated and he should've been given the AFI award. Robbed he was.
I wouldn't go that far. He was awarded the Cecil B DeMille in 1992 and lived a great life, was friends with Elvis Presley, drinking buddies with John Huston and of course Lee Marvin and John Wayne.
I don’t think he would have wanted that award. He disliked that sort of thing.
Love hearing Mitchum's stories.
Mitchum and his ilk will never be seen again in movies.
I like anything Bob Mitchum ever did on film!
Great voice.

The best. He was hilarious in this interview.
Mitchum was and always will be 'da man'

Those calypso records he did were uniformly excellent!

Nice! You have seen some of his finest work. I highly recommend The Sundowners and Farewell, My Lovely.
Robert Mitchum Calypso is found on You Tube. Its actually very good.
Robert Mitchum was cool AF.
omg, mitchum the forever hunk lots of love, rip.😎😎😎😎😎
Pure class!
Such a dry sense of humour! My favourite actor of all time!.

Smooth as silk, loved the guy & his movies, especially Cape Fear - RIP
My faves when David interviewws Legends he allways treats them with respect no matter how cold they are
I can't believe how few views this has received, I just finished reading his biography yesterday, the one by written by Lee Server.
Always grouded. Absolute class act. Like Tracey, never let them catch you acting.
He was the best.
Mitchum goes on, and on 🌵⛹️♂️🤺

Cool cat, no doubt.
Mitchum was a hero to me but Letterman at this point was a lousy interviewer and I don't get trying to embarass people on the show.
Coolest of cool ❤
Mitchum watched DUNE?!
What? He totally says on Dick Cavett that he ran up a $12,000 bar bill.
False! I just watched
the Carett interview
and he clearly DENIED running up
such a bill, saying It
was more like $10.
he would say anything. he was always contradicting himself.
Bob?

I believe Letterman show did not have a class for actor like Mitchum.. I didn't like letterman
I have too much regards and love for great Mitchum

Funny how Letterman will bastardize himself to get a laugh; but he neglects to recognize Mitch as a conservative legend.
