if you don't know who this guy was or is, start watching his movies , get to know him, he is one of the best of all time! I am almost 40 and am only now truly appreciating his talents daily as I watch his legendary acting career so entertaining.
Thanks for posting all this great Mitchum stuff. I'm lucky enough to have a signed postcard from him which I bought online. He was truly a great actor.
While growing up I was totally blown away by Mr. Mitchum's films, he was my idea of what a real man should be (hubris of the young). Like "Jack Nicholson" I could listen to Mitchum's stories all day long. Rest in peace Robert, you truly made an impression while you were here!😢
In stark contrast with today's male "stars," Mitchum combined an effortless raw masculinity with a sharp intelligence and rough, personal charm that made him irresistible to both men and women. There was no sense of phony macho or pretension on display; with Mitchum, what you saw is what you got, and cinema's all the richer for it!
I can't believe Hampton Fancher wanted Mitchum to be the Blade Runner in 1980. He said Mitchum was still robust enough, but I don't see it five years before this.
Robert Mitchum was an interview with an absurd streak a mile wide with holes of varying diameter & depth thruout. The deadpan delivery locks it. If ever there was an actor who COULD have jammed with Firesign Theater, Mitchum was the one. He was wack, the best kind of wack.
Yeah I know what you mean...Letterman is no Frost or Cavett for sure. Mitchum is so interesting to listen to in a long interview but the best Letterman can do is keep it to a few sound bites. Its not his fault though. There is no real venue today for good solid interviews.
My first film on this channel. I enjoyed the intro although the plot description was a bit long for me. Absolutely enjoyed the other information. Especially how you don’t like the stupid shaky camera crap.
Letterman did a great job as interviewer that night. The mood seemed relaxed and lighthearted. But Mitchum’s continuous problems with booze wasn’t funny. He could be mean and unpleasant when he was drunk. But he was always worth listening to no matter who did the interview. I became a fan in high school after reading the long article in Rolling Stone when “Friends of Eddie Coyle” was being filmed in Boston. But I had already seen a few of his movies by then.
@befair1000 Sorry but Parkinson is one that seems to be unavailable. If you are really interested in some Mitchum tv interviews that are unavailable find a copy of Mitchum in His Own Words by Jerry Roberts. Some transcripts of "lost" interviews such as David Frost are included.
@@MarkHarrison733 Not sure what exactly you’re referring to but I wouldn’t equate making a crude joke is the same thing as denying the Holocaust but ok.

He was a Holocaust denier.
Mitchum was one of the greatests.
Pure class. They don't make 'em like this anymore.
A true legend and a real man. a natural actor and incredibly handsome.
Not incredibly handsome, just ruggedly handsome.
Still cool and still handsome...I sure do miss him...Great actor...the best of the best.
One of the coolest guys ever always rocking the shades !
I wish Robert had his own radio show I could listen to him talk all day long loved his voice.

The One and ONLY - Robert Mitchum!
Mr. Mitchum, epitome of cool.

real masculine dude ... genuine masculine energy .. I don't see this with today's male celebrities .. what a contrast
@d jones So true and he doesn’t have to fake it or force it either.

Elvis before the Army and Robert Mitchum were the coolest cats ever nobody comes close
Dean Martin
Like Humphrey Bogart, Mitchum just oozed cool and confidence. My two favorite actors from Hollywood's Golden Age.

Class act. Every time.
The most dangerous man in Hollywood

Why no intro music?

Mitch, read Lee Server's book, 'Baby I don't care' he was is and always will b a one-off, as was Errol Flynn, men's men before Hollywood, and after.
