~-~~-~~~-~~-~
After I made the snow balls for this year..I realized my older video was broken..I have touched it up..but promise a fresh video next year! Sorry for the less than perfect Quality..it is a video from 2 years ago!
These made me think of my aunt who's passed on about a decade ago. She made these every year for a Christmas Eve party she threw for the family. She was one of those old-fashioned, refined Southern Ladies and knew how to cook and make a presentation for a get-together. A sweet, sweet lady and I miss her a lot. Thanks for the memory jogging!
Thank YOU for sharing the memory!
LOL, I love the fire box in the freezer! These are a family tradition in our home, too. So good. Sometimes I think it's me who needs to be kept away from them. If I had a fire box, I would also have the key.
freeze the key in a block of ice!
rofl!!!
Bev, I think you will get a laugh out of this. As I told you before, I was born in the South and reared there until I was an adult and began moving around. I moved to North Dakota, not too far from Canada, a little over four years ago. A lady asked me how did I say, "PEEcan." I said, "Pecahn." I told her a "Peecan" is what people used to have by their beds they used at night instead of going out to the outhouse. Ha! She laughed!
LMAO!!!
South here too🤣🤣
Christmas isn't Christmas without making these! You are right they go by many names, butternut snowballs, nutty nougats, snowball cookies and on and on but whatever you call them they are delicious!!!! Thanks for posting this!
We do snowballs here at our house too! Love them, our kids sit around rolling them out like you did as a child.
Hi Mrs. V.! Just finished mixing up a double batch of these beauties! Hubby & I were talking about just how much we enjoy your videos, and what lovely people you & Howie are. Merry Christmas, my friend. Much love as always, Jodi 💕🎄💕
Thank you Honey! I am running out ot TIME..today Howie butchered to turkeys and two roosters...and I had to clean and package them..the housesitter stopped by to pick up the key ( we are going to out sons for Christmas day and spending 3 days in Peterborough) I STILL have to finish folding the wash and cleaning our bedroom..and the mess left over from howies kitchen work..then I have to bake a pumpkin spice roll with pecan cream cheese filling and a whack of shortbread..then i just may SLEEP unitl Christmas day!
Oh my goodness! Why does this schedule not surprise me one bit! You are a whirlwind my dear. Please remember to breathe once in a while, too! 😊 I know you will have a fantastic & truly memorable time at Arthur's home. Please take plenty of pics! I'd love to see the tree with the homemade ornaments. You must be so proud!!! Travel safe and God Bless. Love ya. 💗🎄💗
Nice, I think I will add them to my Christmas food baskets. And I kept all the marbles from my childhood. My kids played w/ them & now my grand daughter loves them. Good ole fashion fun. Thanks for sharing.
Thank YOU for the sharing!
I had a good loud laugh this morning when you showed the strong box, that is so true, in my house also. I made a homemade apple pie for our thanksgiving meal and got up and all that was left was the pan.... such Pirahna. These cookies are great. I know them as Mexican wedding cookies. Love this video. Thank You
My Pleasure!
Russian tea cakes, Mexican wedding cakes, snowballs! Who cares what you call them as long as you make them and eat them! Love these cookies. Thanks Bev!
Oh my those cookies looks so yummy! Aloha Bev, nice to see you, hope you’re feeling better. Thank you for sharing, was nice to visit with you,God Bless you and your wonderful family 🙏🌞🌺🌴🤙
Yum,gotta make these, wished we lived closer, you would have all the pecans you needed we have pecans trees and were getting a bounty full..we were blessed this year ..take care...
Lol! You weren’t kidding about the strong box! They look heavenly!
Bev you are brilliant. My snowball cookies have never had enough sugar on them, I've even dipped them twice. Now I know the secret to great ones. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my goodness those look and sound incredible....I love your stories...
Thank you! These are a Christmas tradition!
Oh Bev! These are SO delicious! I made just a small batch tonight, since its so late, and I need to get into bed, but my husband and I are in love!! Not just with the snowballs, but you and Howie too! I have been dying to do a reaction video of my son running into the room when I turn one of your videos on! lol. He LOVES you!
I try to make one of your recipes whenever I can, and we've started getting what tools we can, when we have the ability! Thank you SO much for sharing your experiences with us!
It is I, who am honored to be a part of your lives everyday! ((((((HUGS))))))) I would LOVe to see that video!
I've had these before Bev and they do literally melt in your mouth. They're buttery and the sugar dissolves in your mouth... OMG yum !
wouldn't be Christmas without them!
Love this recipe! The snowballs are extremely delicate at first but delicious none the less.
My Family would REVOLT if I did NOT make them!
I love Snow Balls.Haven't made them in years. But. I'm going to make some this year. Mom made them when I was a kid. Thanks Bev. Hugs
I don't do alot of sugar either but I will be trying these for gifts and parties! Thanks so much for all your videos. Have a great holiday season!!!
You were right Bev...I loved this recipe...Thank you for sharing it...Keep the recipes coming, gotta' have more, the recipes are like a drug for me...LMAO!!!
Blessed Be and Smooches...
Thanks for the memories. My Mother also made these and they are my all time favorite.
((((((HUGS)))) I think my mom gave us a plate of icing sugar and got us to roll them individually to keep us BUSY and out of her hair!
Doesn't matter what they're called, they are delicious! My dad made these every Christmas and his recipe was called "Party Cookies". When I started making them and took them to church, my pastor insisted they were called "Russian Tea Cakes"! My dad's recipe only called for nutmeats as if to suggest that you could use whatever type of nuts you could get your hands on. He always used walnuts. I'm going to have to make these this year! Thanks for re-sharing :-)
They are called many things by Many Folks..but one name fits all...DELICIOUS!!!
Lovely video, the love just comes pouring out. Thank you. Hope your having a great day. x
Oh Yum! We call these 'Russian Tea Cakes' and have been a favorite of our family for years. I MUST bake some of these this year!
I have to get onto my baking and fast!
I wait until closer to Christmas (or I have to buy a lock box like you have lol!) cuz if I bake now, I won't have anything for Christmas!
I'm going to have to make a "RUclips recipe book" for my kitchen! I see at least one "must try" recipe every day!! You just added another! Thanks, Jason
WARNING!!! HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!
LOL! Love your channel Bev! You always crack me up!!
1952Jeep Thank you!
My daughter loves this, cant afford pecans, too expensive in Norway, so i use walnuts. "same presidier every year" and tomorrow is the day i first have a math lesson, to calculate pound, cups and farenheigt to metric, and make these. Love from north Norway.
'.m making hem again this Christmas. Always a big hit with the family.
I have ALWAYS loved these and made them every year. My problem is that "I" can't stay out of them! Haha. Thanks for video you just showed me a way to make them easier.
This was such a funny video, I love your sense of humor! Those were my favorite cookies until I had to give them up, down here I think they were called Danish wedding cookies, in a pink and white bag. It's good to have this recipe, I could make them at my daughter's house, with her sons those cookies won't last long enough for me to eat too many.
They are delicious, thanks for sharing your recipe I’m going to make SnowBall cookies.
Thanks! I always learn something from your videos. What a brilliant idea with the powdered sugar! Just slapped myself on the forehead! Can't wait to make these. God Bless You and Yours
😭My Aunt use to make these around the Holidays but God had a different plan for her and took her home a couple of years ago She would make me a batch when I would visit thee my favorite.Thank you for sharing.
💚💛Christina
I was , between drools, trying to figure out why these seemed familiar. Then It clicked in. I made some cookies similar to these, in texture. They were shaped like crescents and had almond flavouring, but that short texture. Big sellers.
Haven’t baked, except for brownies, in years, but I’m actually beginning to feel the motivation. Thank you for showing us all the work you do. Don’t know how you manage, with the pain, but you are an inspiration.😊
PS. Do you ever put food you want to cool outdoors to take advantage of the weather? If I make a big pot of soup and want it cool to go in the fridge, I put the pot out on the front porch, with a screen on it, topped by an old jug for weight.
I want to make these! They look delicious!
Yes we make them using walnuts and call them Russian snow cookie balls. They are delicious. And I like them in small sizes. Nice job MrsVolfie.
I never go through holidays without making these! my fav.. but we call them "russian teacakes! " Love your vids!
gotta try, I had your previous recipe for this saved but thank you because this is now on my to make list with the kids. Merry Christmas dear
Thank you sweety! If you want to keep them occupied give them a plate of icing sugar each and let them roll a few in the sugar by hand while you do the larger portion!! Have FUN!!!
Oh they look positively sinful!! They are definitely going on the baking list this year!! Snowballs in Oz are totally different (and I have to admit, I can't stand them). They are marshmallow balls, dipped in chocolate (usually pink) and then rolled in desiccated coconut. Ick!! These look so much more to my liking!! Will have to go and get a strongbox on Monday LOL! Hugs, Li xx
I agree with your take on the marshmellow ick ones..Try these..but be warned...VER! ADDICTIVE!
Consider me warned and excited :D
Liangelus lol!
So yummy!! Your right a lock box is a necessity!
It WAS..my son Briar is away looking for work..so the little batch I made THIS year should make it!
I love these cookies! I know I've made them with different nuts in the past but I don't think I've ever done pecans. Going to make these this year for sure.
LOL.....I'm thinking to myself Bev is messing with my head I saw this last year....after the video finished I saw the title ...revisited...lol.....happy to revisit many more times......
I didn't realize until AFTER I made this years batch..that there was a chunk missing from this one..so I will make a new one NEXT year to replace this old one!
...:) ..was nice seeing the old footage ...like hanging out and reminiscing .....
***** True!!
Another video I missed along the way, I made these and some recipe called dutch thumbprint cookies last year and omg, they are both my absolute favorites now. I will only make them at Christmas or like you said it's like Crack! I'll end up in a diabetic coma or something, LOL. And I'm not a huge sweets person either, but I couldn't stop, LOL
My mommy used to make these we called them divinity cookies because they are Devine ! Thank you for Sharing.
I remember my daughter when she was in 3rd grade they had a cookie baking contest at school and she wanted us to enter I swear to u I can not cook to save my soul I found this recipe but they were called Mexican wedding cookies and guess what we won first place I was a very proud mommy my girl is 16 now and we still laugh about it your awesome bev and hopefully I can learn how to cook from u
My Motto is keep it simple! What a GREAT memory!
i agree with you bev. snowballs have been in my family also since before i was born. my grama use to make them all the time than my mom n sis made them.rip sis...now its my turn. my mom would make tins of these.we rolled them in powered sugar one by one. ty for showing me a easier way. thank god i have a very large amount of pecans vacuum sealed in my freezer .bought them at a super great price n still have plenty. i also agree with the lock box. [great idea} i'm going to go buy a couple. ty so much for sharing as my mom has ms for over 25 plus years now. she cant remember what she did with her recipe, n my sister passed 12 yrs ago. so ill be making your recipe. you brought back very great memories for me n i thank you. also shortbread is a must for me too. i'll be using ur recipe also. god bless u n ur family. and happy baking !!! hugs
Thank you Darlin!!! I LOVE sharing Memories!! ((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))
I made these with you're recipe, amazing! Thank you it's wonderful
I am GLad!
My mother used to make these, too... I think she called them pecan balls. I later knew them as wedding cookies.... I remember how absolutely yummy they were... Haven't had any in years....
then it's time to get baking! ;)
Hi Bev. I just made these and they are cooling as I type. Yum-O. I'm not a fan of pecans so I used walnuts instead. The only issues I had...but it did not effect the yumminess...was that they did not keep their marble shape. They were still round; did not flatten out completely like a traditional cookie but did not stay as 'marble like' as yours. They were fun and easy to make and they took to that powder sugar exactly as you said they would. Again...Yum-O! Thanks, Bev!
Update...I made them, they were easy and fast but, oh my...this recipe should be wrapped with yellow caution tape...I can not stop eating them! I am now going to get up to bake another batch. I may not survive this holiday season...
Sooey Jane BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Told you! Get a strong box and hide the key!
OurHalfAcreHomestead Too late...I'm in trouble...
Sooey Jane lol
Just saw this video, and couldn't stop laughing! Love that you prepared a lockbox for your cookies :)
Yum Yum, Gosh, I wish I was a family member, for I could receive some of these goodies at Christmas. Thank you for sharing and Blessings to you and your family.
Thank you so much for posting this video snow ball are going to be a big hit...you are my crismas angle.
Thanks Bev! Love Snowballs.
omgoodness those look amazing !!!! i bet they taste amazing too :) merry christmas mrs. & mr. volfie happy holidays from my family to yours
Bev, I’ve heard you mention several times how Briar had eaten your snowball cookies from the gift boxes you had packed up
In the freezer so you were forced to put future batches in a strongbox. Well, this video popped up today so I watched it. Lo and behold, it WAS a strongbox! I’m in hysteria! They DO look good. Will attempt to make some when I’m home. Mmmmm...
LOL! I made ONE recipe this year...and come Christmas Morning...and the last dozen had disappeared! Briar in da HOUSE!
I just found this video - OH MY I used to make "mexican wedding cookies" with my aunt (mom's sister) and her mother-in-law (full blown Italians) and we would make these every Christmas !!
did you see the one from 2016? You going to be at the live feed today?
Hehehehe We have Pecan Snowballs too. Said as spelt in Aus. Thank you for this beaut recipe Bev.
I remember these from my childhood. I'll have to make some to take into work.
OMG I nearly died when I saw the strongbox! XD That is a hilarious but great Idea! I might do that for hubby this year so he cant eat the cookies before Christmas! XD
You are a kick I use 1/2 vanilla 1/2 almond extract.I always substituted very finely chopped walnuts,I had to learn to make do As a single mom with three kids.no one ever knew that I changed out the 🥜 Happy holidays.
LMAO!!! Its so funny u need lock box for these! I guess your guys know what treasures you made!
lol we didn't have to use the strong box this year because my sons no longer live at home! lol
Thank goodness for pecan trees! We usually get a bumper crop every other year, and believe me.....we store them up!
I wish we could grow pecans here..We can walnuts..but I am allergic!
Bev I make little logs. We call the nutty fingers. Thanks about the locked box, I need thought of that. Lol
Yum! Those look delicious Plus you gave me an Idea for gifts for my out of town relatives. Good thing my kids are grown and I won't need the strong box. :)
AMEN to THAT..my Youngest is now away at his brothers looking for work..so no strong box this year either!
Oh these are like pecan sandies~ yummmmm,,,,,will add these to the family recipe box this year thank you so much! Helping me get into the Holiday spirit of Cookies making early,,,need to get a jump start so I don't have to do so much all at one time! do both of these recipes freeze well? OurHalfAcreHomestead
|They freeze AMAZINGLY well..that's why I can make them early!
They look so good!
Those look delish. I've made something similar called Danish Wedding cookies; they're more flat so I suppose they wouldn't be snowball cookies? Anyway, those are my favorite cookies and it looks like this one will be too! I'll be making this once I get nuts again. LOL on the lock box. Cookies do not last around my house either, especially if they're a family favorite; the cookie makers will usually hand out a few to the family, then put them in a container and hide them somewhere in the house, leaving the rest of the family to search for them. You get smart when you have cookies that you'd like to savour or give away! LOL :D Thanks for sharing! : )
My Pleasure..Thank God my sons are grown now!
We call them Mexican Wedding Cakes. I made hundreds of these every year. Becase I made so many I found a super quick way to make them. I roll them into a sort of snake and then pinch off the amount I want. Not perfectly round but FAST! Try it. Guess I better get baking soon. ;)
HEY!! I just might try that! |Thanks!
YVW!!
They look wonderful Bev. I don't know if anyone in my house can eat them, we are all diabetic, but I think I want to try them. Thank You
My Pleasure!
Lol omg is the lock box for real?? Where can i buy i need to keep my husband.. definitely make a video if you make again but love this story very inspiring ur entrepreneur
those look soooooooooo good think i will give them a try will be great as gifts thx
EXCELLENT IDEA!
First...I so agree, about the perfume! One of the reasons for higher priced pecans, is China, shipping so many to China. These sound like I'd need a strong box to keep ME out lol!
Oh you WILL! lol
Dear Mrs. Volfie...these look wonderful. I would 'cheat' and use my melon baller to scoop them out. A locked strong box...hilarious! Thank you for this yummy video. (:
my pleasure!
"Smile" Took me back in time ...again.
How Lovely!! ((HUGS))
That lock box is so funny. My problem with the strong box is keeping me out of them.
Give the key to someone else? lol
These are my favorite!!
I have made these since my children were little, about 40 years I guess. they are wonderful. We call them Russian tea cakes. I cannot remember where I got the recipe.
Thank's Bev! They look SCRUMPSHUS!!!! :)
HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!
My mother called them Russian tea cakes..... Doesn't matter what you call them. They are sooooo good. And addictive.
I make these every year too but I make 4 batches hoping that 1 batch makes it till Christmas ! lol
LMAO!! Totally get it!~
This is a good recipe for now!!!! Yummmmm
Made these this weekend... Yummy! Oh, and I hid them in an unmarked #10 can!
GOOD JOB!!
Do you still do these by hand or use your cowgirl? I've never seen this recipe, but I'll try it out now.
I use the cowgirl..she is my sidekick..I use her daily!
Oh my gosh. Those look so good.
THE Christmas Cookie!
many hours of my childhood were spent playing marbles!!
That accounts for the hand mixer and the old kitchen lol
LMAO...don't worry I have at least three more recipes coming over the next 5 days!
Never thought of it but like the lock on the box good idea, will have too do that or Glenn will stuff his face..lolol
Would you know of a recipe of a cookie made in the frying pan, with dates and sugars(not sure which/what for the sauce part), rice crispies..these were stirred together, they were made into balls and rolled in coconut. My mother and my dads mother made them, and I can not not find a recipe to make them. I would like to make them for my kids and have been wanting to for years. Would you know what they would be called? The snowballs look delish!! Remind me of a moon shaped cookie my mom would make. Oh holiday memories are a flowing....
I have never heard of this recipe..but if you find it..I am sure people would love you to share it!
i love the lockbox idea; believe me when I say i have cookie monsters around here.
your killing me Mrs. V. omg..... I need an emoji for Drool
My daughter love these cookies.
Hi Mrs V! It's taken me forever to find this video! Could you please translate the ingredients in to imperial weights for us Brits please? Just dying to try these! Thank you. Love, love everyone of your videos xxxxx
LOL,...."Ladies ya don't need expensive perfumes, a li'l vanilla ext. will do",...ya got that tip from Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies sitcom,...hehehe,...LMAO,..."ya wanna make these 'lady bite sized' not 'volfie bite sized',....luvin' your beautiful Canadian Ingenuity Mrs. V!!! Thumbs up and keep 'em in the strong box 'til Christmas! ;)
No Need For the Strong Box..My Son Briar Is away looking for work! Thanks Joe!
I loved this video.....this is the best cookie!!!!
Bev, isn't there a snowball made with p-nut butter and the white icing?????
Hi I made the snow balls and my kids love them thanks so much
We call them snowballs in my family too. Maybe it is a Canadian thing. :)
Gorgeous. Being diabetic, I can but dream of having one of these, but I can eat them vicariously via your 'taste test' :)
Your so right, if i dabbed a rib eye steak behind my ears my husband would just never be the same. LOL
do you use self rising flour or all purpose?
I have only ever used SR flour once..and that was by accident..so AP! *smile*
Mmmmmm. A strongbox in a safe at my house. Take care Bev.
They are worth hiding!
