Just a lil family joke you will appreciate. When we were kids my Gmother made whipped creme, of course she made it. She put it on the table with desert and my cousin who was about 8-9 at the time asked her if she had any real whipped creme, the one in the can?? LOLOL

If you freeze them ( even for a few hours) when you drop them in boiling water..the skins split then slip off as you peel them..you CAN use ANY tomato..however roman has the least amount of water...so if you use regular tomatoes..you will be cooking it down longer.
    Hope this helps?

Awesome video. It's so much eaiser watching you doing it, than my thinking about doing it. You are proof that it's not as hard as I thought it would be. Can't wait until my tomatoes are ready for picking.

I LOVE your videos and really learn a LOT. I dehydrate my tomato skins and turn them into tomato powder - whenever I have skins from tomato projects. I never dehydrate tomates for this purpose. Seems a waste to me to throw them away or do something else with them. Also seems a waste to use regular tomatoes to make tomato powder...

    From Mentalfloss(dot)com
What’s the Difference Between Ketchup and Catsup?
Ketchup and catsup are simply two different spellings for the same thing, a modern, Westernized version of a condiment that European traders were introduced to while visiting the Far East in the late 17th century.

I spent all afternoon skinning and cubing up my butternut squash to pressure can tommorow. Picked a bounty of peppers of all kinds to make a peck of pickled peppers out of. I am trying a variation of swwet bread and butter pickle recipe. The peppers will be a mixture of habanero hot down to yellow banana and green bell mild.

Sounds pretty good. If I may, if folks are like me and don't like the taste of clove, I would recommend either cumin or ginger, or both, along with nutmeg instead of allspice.

    And Finally from answerbag(dot)com
What is the difference between catsup and ketchup?
    Thank you for your question.
Ketchup and catsup are different terms for the same thing which is tomato sauce made from tomatoes, vinegar, sugar, salt, allspice, cloves, and cinnamon. Tomato sauce is a similar product made without vinegar. It often contains celery and onions. There is no difference in the product.
From Me? I have always called it ketchup..my dad born in 1926 always called it Catsup.

Due to drought, the tomatoes were not good this year, they were rather small and sparse. I am hoping next year will be better and if it is, I will be using your recipe for canning ketchup. I am focusing on buying either NON GMO or Organic foods and that can get to be expensive, so anywhere I can save a bit and still have wholesome foods, that's what I will be doing! I enjoy your videos. If I lived closer I would be willing to help you out, especially with canning so I could learn first hand. You make a great teacher!

OurHalfAcreHomestead one batch has 1 1\4 ketchup, 1 tsp lemon juice,1\4 c water,2 T brown sugar, 1 c celery shredded, 1\2 tsp salt, 2 tsp vinegar, 1\4 c chopped onion, 1 1\2 tsp dry mustard. This is just the ingredients for one meal. I would probably have to tweak it for bigger batch.

  • @TheRealXesc
    @TheRealXesc 12 лет назад

Yeah, you could have none, like us, this year :(
We wanted to make all kinds of tomato things this year, so we planted 30+ tomato plants, but this year, the weather here in Northern Sweden ruined everything... We had intense heat way too early, then we had freezing nights, then very hot, and then, rain, rain, rain, rain... and now, when it's supposed to be really hot, we have had freezing nights again... All our plants are/have bloomed, but not a sign of a tomato :(
