Repairing a wide, asphalt pavement crack using Maxwell Products' GAP Mastic. Developed for repairs with excessive movement, GAP Mastic is highly flexible and extremely versatile allowing repairs of such pavement distress as fatigue cracking (alligator cracking), depressions, and deterioration around concrete structures (drains, manhole covers, gutters, etc).
This is the kind of video you'd watch at 2-4 AM when you need to wake up early tomorrow for a busy day
So true.

Why is this so stupidly true

So instead of sleeping you’re filling cracks in a parking lot at 3 in the morning?
How do you see?

Yeah, I saw the top comment too.
Meh. Better to watch this then to have crazy ass dreams
Strangely satisfying to watch!
I was just think that. I have come back to this video several time to watch the crack get filled.
I was just going to say the same thing.. Like why is this so COOL to watch. LoL.
same satisfying as squeezing out a big blackhead.

I disagree. Some men take pride in doing these "shit" jobs and don`t expect any recognition. Imagine that !

Recognition for what? These men get paid to do it.

I don't work for Maxwell, I don't know anyone there but I'd like a free dinner 🤭 Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
What is the material?
"I welded a square to a metal rod."
"Give that man a patent."
The material is patented. The tool we used to apply it with... definitely just a metal square welded to some tubing. But if someone wanted to give us a patent for that, we would certainly accept it. hehe.
Man, being easily satisfied with life is something I could go for.
Amazing. Can't tell at all where the original gap was. Completely invisible repair
Is this sarcasm?
@@bloodyfx1065 no it's not, can you see the gap? I can't
@@WasephWastar shit, true. The gap disappears.
I confused the gap of the road with the gap between me and my ex wife since she filed a restraining order! Amazing stuff indeed.
The Ginger Power Ranger, lol right. Just some random black line on the road.
it rains it repairs itself
I thought this said "Repairing a wide crack with GAP Music" and was expecting to see mundane road repair set to Gap Band you dropped the bomb on me.
I live in PA and let me tell you these types of fixes are the worst. They fail after 1 cold season.
Ran the crackfiller for county years every winter the plows peel up everything. the time and taxpayer money was for not I swear.
@@rockyourbodywithbignastyho7315 They want to blame the big rigs for tearing up roads. Those plow buckets are brutal on roads.
100%. I live about 45min south of the Pocono's. The roads around this area are terrible and as stated above, these patches are horrible. Work never seems like it gets done and then when it does, it fails 2 years later and takes another 5 years to get redone just to fail again.
They are one of the cheapest too, so one can reapply it.

I've always wondered how this was done! These guys need to come work in my area bc they're NEVER completely filled like displayed in this video! I also believe perfectionist should only be given this type of job to make sure it's *done right the FIRST time!* 😁👍
ruclips.net/video/0HrgJ9GngWk/видео.html
In my city it takes 16 hours and 4 people and a box of donuts to do that!
I live in Italy and this would take 10 years, 50 new governments, 5 workers and the job would never get done.
You gonna do it for them?
I used to do this for a living as the owner, but crack sealing was by far the most satisfying and profitable. We used to get 50-80 cents per foot. As fast as you could walk with that " hot box" was like ka-chingo.
👍🤣
OKAY RUclips, I WATCHED IT! HAPPY?!?

Next time, try to use Flex Seal,it seal and reapair.THATS A LOT OF DAMAGE IN YOUR ROAD
that crack would be so expensive it u had to fill it with flex seal
I CUT THIS ROAD IN HALF
It even works *_underwater!_*
@@Jeesus353 and repaired it using only flex seal
Lmao. I read that in his voice.😂😂😂
No one:
Politicians: that maneuver cost us 1 million dollars.
I think you have to pack that asphalt from my experience as a finish roller you’re still gonna end up with a crack because the hot asphalt is just going to sink down deeper and deeper and compact itself and only works if you build up a little bit of a ridge mound and then pound it down in there flat by compactor or roller. This crack will be sunk in by at least an inch within a few months.
Agreed. I would like to see a follow-up video of what the crack looks like in 2012 or better yet 2021.
I can picture the smell of that hot asphalt right now.... Great childhood memories of theme park parking lots!
So that’s what the darker lines on the roads were for

So...basically they are responsible for preventing the world from breaking up into pieces again by making these patches. Well done guys!
ikr! some heroes don't wear capes
how does it look now, several years later?
Ok so a company like this must've came where i work on a Saturday and did a half-assed one pass job that made no difference but these guys know how to do a fantastic job
Sadly, they probably just used the wrong type of product for the job they were doing. It's far too common but we are doing our best to spread the word. Thanks for watching!
A small crack???
It would've been considered a perfectly smooth road here in Poland and Russia
That stuff is blistering hot. Its softening point is 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Asphalt itself will cling to flesh like lava as it burns. A paving crew was working on a road in my state when a little girl decided she wanted to be the first in the neighborhood to walk on it. She ran, barefoot, right onto the asphalt. One of the guys in the crew saw her coming and ran through the asphalt he just smoothed out to stop her. She sank into freshly laid asphalt and sank into it before the guy lifted her out and into the yard. By the time he rushed her to the kiddy pool, her feet were covered in blisters, tar, and pieces of aggregate (little rocks). They cooled it off in the water and used the soap the crew carries to break the tar down. I've seen people drive through the stuff and their tires melt and explode. I can only imagine how badly that little girl's feet were burned.
I helped smooth out a bit of asphalt for the end of my neighbor's yard one day. It was leftovers from a highway crew that was "Too cold for use." I could feel the year pouring off of it...and it was too cold? My dad warned me to be careful because I'd be walking away with burns if I fell into it.
My girlfriend has got a _wide crack_
will this do the job?
This video makes me cry 😥 because I realize how bad the situation in our country.
*In PA, this would last maybe a week or so in Winter*
RockinRob69 not even a week id say 2-3 if rain and snow are coming down it looks jist like the cold pack they use for potholes in Pittsburgh and that last 2 days or a snow plow comes through
RockinRob69 I think a week is a pretty high estimate don't you?
Same in Denver.
Or maybe 1day on the Swiss cheese they call roads in Philadelphia.
RockinRob69 Not like the roads exist in the first place
One of the greatest videos on RUclips.
I'm sure this is a fact. 👍🏼
But is this stuff too thick to really get down into the crack? Like should the first run be just tar so it can get to the bottom of the crack and then go back over with the thick stuff?
JayUppercase This material is designed to flow well as long as the crack or void is at least an inch wide. But you are absolutely right in your thinking. Thanks for asking!
That's a pretty simple and clever device for fixing this big cracks.
I have a feeling that won't do much, needs some compaction then a top layer
I was thinking same thing. Will it even bond? How well did they clean out all the dirt in the crack?
This material actually requires no compaction as the aggregate is fully suspended in a firm but flexible binder that bonds to, and moves with the pavement. This repair is actually almost 9 years old now and still looks pretty good last we saw it!
Who knew the our only way to pass the time is to watch people being productive.

*why not use flex seal?*

They shouldn't use the square box, but triangle instead...
but squares are easier to make and hold more....
Eira S- It wouldn't go to the edges of the road properly, and would cause waste. That's why.

i like the new machines they haveto do this... Makes a lot better repair.. Just watched them do a whole parking lot in Mesa Arizona..The machine was owned by our city .. had an overhead pump hose to drop the stuff in the crack itself
What you saw is a crack seal kettle. It is similar, but those products do not have aggregate in them so they can be pumped through hoses. It is easier to apply but is not suitable for cracks over 1" wide. This type of material has aggregate and is designed to fix wide cracks but cannot be put through a pump and must be applied differently. Thanks for commenting!
Нам бы в Россию такие технологии XD

This is many repairing a crack. This is patching a crack with tar. Repairing the crack would consist of replacing the concrete.
It's asphalt, smart ass
I don't even remember what video I started watching. I have no idea how I got here.
Why so many dislikes? Looks professional and took very little time. Thumbs Up.
Why use that when ya got flex seal...

This one has made it 9 years so far, so a little better than that.👍🏼

I love the smell of tar.
Right up there with cut grass
What kind of quality work is that and how long it will last before it keeps cracking. Let's say you take your car to a body shop would u take your car knowing your getting that same quality done on your car? And repairing the road is not cheap

Вот какой он, загнивающий запад
I don't see the reason to spend like 50k on this machine. When you can put asphalt in them and then seal it with hot rubber and Black Beauty
Equipment cost is always a consideration, but the existence of such a wide crack suggest movement beyond the ability of asphalt to accommodate. Replacing asphalt with the same or similar material is likely to result in similar failure. GAP Mastic’s highly flexible binder is designed to handle this type of movement, while its high-strength, engineered aggregate accommodates traffic load and restores the ride. If you'd like to learn more about GAP Mastic or the GAP line of products, go to maxwellproducts.com/products/gap_mastic. Thanks for taking the time to view our videos and share your thoughts.
i know here asphalt won't last long in a gap like that, and its too wide for cracksealing
It's kind of like the asphalt should have had a gap filled with GAP mastic in the first place, like the way they put gaps in concrete roads for expansion and contraction.
Why bother answering such a stupid Comment!
because he wants to advertise his shit product. stop fucking around son, that shits gonna last for 3-5 months at the most. if it was concrete, the gp would be properly filled the first time and last several years. its the reason you asshats claim such superiority of a clearly inferior product. it gets you more work.
I used this on my ex and it wasn’t enough to fill her crack up!
lol, f you, and those always poping out
These are the kind of videos our local appointed government/politicians should be watching towards fixing our roads
I can't lie, I should be asleep but this is amusing me.
You fill those cracks real good.
If you like to keep all your tools and equipment spotlessly clean and tidy, its probably a good idea if you dont go into road maintenance.
Second top tip: don't wear safety boots with a metal inlay on hot asphalt. The metal inlay heat up real bad!
@@pecheur1951 I never thought of that, but it makes complete sense.
In fact I remember a mountain guide saying the exact same thing, only about the cold. He warned people to never wear steel toe cap boots in arctic conditions, unless they liked frostbite and helicopter evacuations.
@@TheWtfnonamez Yup. Worked in both asphalt and construction and being outside below freezing sucks even worse than warm asphalt.
