- Chinese food in India has a long history of permutations, concoctions, combinations and hodge-podgery; from the almost but not quite authentic, to the Indianised, Desified - Sezwan versions. Served up at roadside carts to white table cloth temples of Confu-sion. We have been exposed to it all.
In walk, The Big Forkers to a self-proclaimed 'Authentic' Chinese restaurant in Mumbai and well, hell hath no fury like Sid scorned of Authentic Chinese food.
We didn't plan it this way, nor did Team Modi apparently, but this is the Forkers invasion of House of MANDARIN !!

I haven't visited China but I've tried authentic Chinese food in Singapore. It wasn't for my taste buds at all. We're too spoilt by desi Chinese for all the right or wrong reasons. It was good to know you have such great knowledge about the cuisine and the history around it. But I personally would not go so hard at a restaurant for not being AUTHENTIC especially since the people running it know what works best for the audience in the city. I have worked with this brand for 2 years and I honestly loved the food. Everything I've had was fantastic. And that's obviously because 99% of the people love this as we're accustomed to this taste. I don't think majority of the audience watching this would actually enjoy authentic Chinese food like you do. Great insights though :)
P.s I have no personal or professional connection with the brand or with any of it's people. This was a personal viewpoint from a fellow foodie. Can't expect Big Mac where Aloo Tikki is famous. Cheers 😁
Singapore the food is very different than 99% of China.
But we hear you, Our issue is: Dont claim to be authentic, dont say its a slow roasted pork when it is fried, dont say its BBQ Char Sui when its just fried porl belly.
Dont bullshit the customer.
If you watch the restaraunt, we repeat it often, if this were Indian food then it would be ok, its simply not Chinese.
Chinese rice is like a lump because Chinese don’t put oil or salt in their rice ...
They use a high glutunious rice
Try making your basmati or sona masuri rice without oil & salt , u will end up saying this is Chinese rice ...

ROYAL CHINA, Lings Pavilion, China House, Yauatcha are closest to being 'Authentic'- House of Mandarin isn't even in the competition.

My father took me once to a small chinese restaurant, it was run by a chinese couple I didnt like it, my father said just because you mostly eat the indian version of chinese food you are not liking it. I guess I was 10 or 11 at that time. I don't recollect the name wild guess will be Dukes somewhere near Mazgaon or Byculla. Almost 26 years ago.
I just love the way he screwed the entire menu dish by dish. This the way this fancy fucking places they call restaurants should be reviewed. Way to go!. Please visit all the so called authentic Mexican Italian even South Indian fancy restaurants.

Hey Sid, hardly any authentic Chinese this part of the Malacca Straits. There are some places with Authentic chinese (refugee chinese family joints) but those are places you don't want to travel to in Bombay.
We will go anywhere to try out the food, 'anywhere'

Glad to get genuine reviews but according to me the talk part could b in a positive way too because It takes real hard work to set up a restaurant and when so much effort is put in , a negative review doesn't motivate
Our problem is the fact that in the garb of authentic this restaurant charges 4 times more than any other Chinese/chindese restaurant. Call it indian Chinese and set the expectation right. That's all we calling out. We won't apologize if it fits. Cheers mate

Mandarin was the Lang of MANDARINS (high ranking officials in ancient Chinese royalties) just like Sanskrit was Language of social elites while Prakrit was Lang of people in the lower strata. So House of Mandarin isn’t similar to house of Hindi . LOL First impression of a Chinese expert with 16 years spent in China. While I don’t doubt their knowledge abt the cuisine but I do believe that authentic cuisine members are really cringe and most authentic food is disappointing. No wonder American fusion cuisine made everything so good (extra butter, sugar, oil and meat) ....Also, why act all purist abt something that is very common. A five line story changes its meaning multiple times when told by person to another. Jalebi is diff is every city. Bloody poha changes too from Indore to Nagpur, so what if Sichuan cuisine isn’t exactly Sichuan in Bombay...such liberties and improvisation is allowed and shouldn’t be condemned by a wannabe fat ass
Mandarin is putonghua or peoples language. The primary language of the Han people and the official language of the P.R.C
And authentic Chinese regional (if you bothered to understand the difference) food is brilliant and only disappointing if you have ever eaten only poha. Pedestrian glib tit.

If Chinese cuisine in its original form was served across the world, it wouldn't be so popular. I've been fortunate to try Chinese food in USA, Canada and India and it was their version of Chinese. I would probably rate authentic Chinese the lowest based on my taste buds

@@TheBigForkers Facts speak. Chinese immigrants across the world have had to alter their cuisine to make it more palatable to the local populace. It's only in the past decade that there's been an interest in regional Chinese but even in that the recipes are tweaked by increasing the protein, increasing the spice proportion to reduce the blandness, etc.
@@samwelltarly4365 these alterations you talk about aren't necessarily done by the Chinese folk my friend they're done by the local people who got inspired by the cuisine. Chindese food is the invention of an englishman in Kolkata and not a Chinese guy. Jo bikta hai woh banta hai.
Even the restaurant has to think of making food personable to the Indian audience. How often will they get customers who have stayed in China for a considerable amount of time!

A Chinese guy said about Chinese restaurants in non Chinese countries- any authentic Chinese restaurant won't have a name that has Chinese association (mandarin, Shanghai, great wall, Schezwan etc). It will be just a regular name
