    Yeah, mother had you sleep outside because, as she said, she "had to see" and so she suggested you to do something insane, that no human would agree to.
    I'm kind of curious if there's some ending you can get where you defy the programming and actually wrestle control in favor of Liana, by learning on previous playthroughs everything that she would do, and then doing all of those things in one playthrough.
    Though it's possible... that the point of the game is that Liana - as with every other character, mother father, etc. - are literally inaccessible to you, The Librarian, since you are controlling the Angel, via the Interface (literally you, sitting at your computer playing the game).
    ...Maybe this is why mother tells you to "quit." YOU are controlling the angel. Only by quitting the game can you relinquish control and let Liana take over. So by playing the game, you are actually preventing Liana from controlling herself. So you're literally incapable of behaving the way Liana behaved, because you are LITERALLY not Liana. Liana is/was a person that exists in the world of the game. All you can ever do is follow what the game tells you to do and interface with the angel.

    • @dalejhunter1
      @dalejhunter1 2 года назад +10

      I keep hearing this game has multiple endings, each based on the idea of going against the system. Quitting isn't really an answer since that isn't "closure".

    • @masterzoroark6664
      @masterzoroark6664 2 года назад +15

      @@dalejhunter1 In story of the game it would be.
      As they said and Librarian noticed- you are the Angel, The Enigma Machine, The Interface. You as the player follow instructions given to you like the machine.
      So if you leave, you the process of the machine, you leave the in-story character of Liana to controll the body.
      You as an outside force relinquish controll to an in-story character. You, as an ouside force, give controll back to a character.

    Now, I absolutely love this game. It's truly horrifying, sad and fascinating at the same time. It is a prequel to The Enigma Machine, and together they make such an interesting, disturbing, and fascinating story. Please, please, play The Enigma Machine. It's honestly a must if you liked this one.

    This is a typical horror story regarding the concept of Android Reanimation, the idea of placing the "soul" or memories of a dead being inside another body, to reanimate them, in an attempt to "revive" them.
    In this case, Liana is a Android - effectively in a Cyborg body/computer body. The reason why there's the critical errors is effectively part of the (imaginary) laws of robotics, and by rejecting the action, you oppose and thereby, have been "contaminated" by the soul of the being itself - aka the target being revived.
    The mother is scared simply because humans cannot process the idea of revival, thus by leaking any voice, they do not know if the being inside the reanimated body is a computer, a human or a demon

    • @ЧёяКтоя
      @ЧёяКтоя 2 года назад +11

      exactly my thoughts. and core one is the machine brain and core two is Liana's and I remember mother said something along the lines of it was father's plan to contaminate core one. like it's an autopilot that was made to carry Liana through the memory-reviving experience so she could wake up and take control over her new body (likely mechanical, or otherwise interchangeable)

    This one`s really unsetteling. It does manage to capture the feeling of childhood in a way, or at least my distant memory of it. Got the chills when you walked into the bedroom and the mother was lurking in the darkness, also the double mother moment in the living room. Unraveling the plot it reminds me of a lot of things - Solaris (1972), Demon seed (1977) Deadly friend (1986) ~

    Just wanna clarify that instead of trying to go into the parents room on Friday _evening_ as was explicitly stated, you only checked the door Friday _night,_ when they were already arguing in the room.
    That’s the only thing I was a bit disappointed you missed. You were supposed to find the parents arguing scene before you find the whole underground basement scene and revelation in the second playthrough. It wasn’t a case of being hard to find, it was just a simple mistake of misremembering what time you had to go into their room. And that’s okay.

    • @TheLibrarianYT
      @TheLibrarianYT  2 года назад +71

      The problem is that this requires you to abandon a task you were already doing while time is rapidly advancing. This is clearly deliberate, as they don't want you to do it on your first playthrough, but nevertheless, you have to basically terminate one of the emotional crescendos of the game midway through. It would make more sense IMO if you had the option to investigate from the moment you were told to go to the graveyard. This way it would be more of a choice of whether to obey or defy, rather than "notice that we changed the time here and ditch the scene."

      I think the developer's intention was to follow through several loops, receiving hints about where to deviate in the next loop.
      Early on, you're told that father will call on Thursday evening. In that call, he'll tell you that he talked to mother on Thursday morning while she was at the orchard (1:03:35). So the hint is that, next loop, you want to be at the orchard on Thursday morning.
      In that conversation, mother mentions that on Friday evening, she will leave the bedroom door unlocked so that they have a conversation on Friday night (58:58). So the hint is that, next loop, you want to check the bedroom on Friday evening.
      In that conversation, they talk about a hidden switch which it's possible to activate on Wednesday afternoon (2:29:58). So the hint is that, next loop, you want the check the prized possession on Wednesday afternoon. And doing so will trigger the golden ending.
      There's clearly a route that the developer intended to follow. The problem was that Librarian accidentally triggered a conversation in the first playthrough (in the orchard) that he shouldn't have found until the second playthrough, and thus got quite confused. Thursday morning and Friday evening can be done in the same loop, but that means you skip the event at the cemetery... It doesn't matter if you're doing it on your second playthough, but Librarian was doing on the first playthough.

    This was probably one of the most fascinating, creative games I've ever seen. I typically regard myself as being pretty good at being able to predict where things are going or what the end will be, but this game kept me on my toes literally the entire time.
    It was also quite emotionally charged for me, as I've lost a sibling. This concept reminds me of that story "The Monkey's Paw", wherein it explores the idea of interfering with fate; wanting to bring someone back from the dead without considering the possibility that they're simply meant to be gone, and that bringing them back will not only provide complications and pain for the lost loved one (which we wouldn't want), but that it's not what we thought we wanted, either. There is no way to intercept fate without perverting normalcy as we know it, without changing all of the things that we wouldn't otherwise want changed.
    It's been a long time since a game gave me so much to think about. Fantastic game. Definitely will be looking out for more from these creators.

    This was one amazing video for one amazing game!
    The story telling is simply magnificent with how it is always obtuse to not give itself right away and feel like everything is a red herring, but when you finally start catching on to it, it hits straight to recontextualizing everything in such a smart way, the story itself being pretty interesting and sad.
    One little example I noticed was the monologue mother gives after you pick the apples "when I'm out here it makes me feel alive. it connects me to this world ... if I didn't have those tangible things it would be nothing more than another menial task, something to get over and move on to the next thing", like she is trying to get to the robot that it shouldn't be doing tasks because it is told to, but to live as a real person
    When she has the thought of having you sleep outside, the says "there's something I need you to show me", as how that would be an experiment to see if you would actually follow the order
    For what I could understand, many of the visuals of the game along the glitches in the first run is how the world you're seeing is being translated into it by the interface, it is the programming of the machine, and you are the underlying consciousness (besides the core of Liana) controlling it; It translates all the information of how the world is, how people act and what you do into what you see as the game. Many of those time skips seem to happen because it doesn't know or doesn't deem necessary to translate what is happening into the game for you to complete the task
    And the underlying issue being with how over the time, the interface, the machine side of the mind of this surrogate Liana, starts taking over both you and her, forcing you into being a machine and not an actual self conscious being like what they want to happen
    Anyway, really good. I want more games about "btw, you are the AI" (yes, I know SOMA)

    this is, without hyperbole, among the most well-written games ever created. im too tired to go into any further depth, but im nearly speechless, and its made all the more impressive given it was written and produced by a single person. and while i personally wouldnt really consider this horror, moreso a thriller, a cerebral story like this is such a breath of fresh air and came at such a good time given how stale, intentionally underwritten, pretentious, boring, and overbearing the current crop of indie horror games of late have been. i fucking love this game, and ive never even played it

The bathroom lightswitch is on the outside of the bathroom for safety reasons, makes you less likely to touch it with wet hands or get water in there which would obviously be bad. I understand that in the US you have GFCI isolators in them and so don't see the need to do this added safety thing but in a lot of countries it's a legal requirement.

    Horror games: warning! May contain scenes of death. Play at your own risk.
    Shooter games: you get 1 skill point for every 10,000 kills, you can use foe's limbs as a weapon, you can craft armor from foes' skin. To get the skin, hold F looking at the body. Getting skin from still alive foes yields 30% more material. Skinning 3 people alive at once grants you a "screams around" achievement. Blood on the ground increases exp gained by the amount covered. Use chat to insult your foes implying dead relatives. Have fun.

      Shooters are so over the top they are almost never relatable to real life or real trauma. You might as well be pacman gobbling up dots as you mass murder a city. You're far more likely to empathize with your gun and it's attachments then the people you're killing and it's by design.
      Horror games are far more intimate and can actually trigger responses and feelings you thought laid dormant.

      @@josephmatthews7698Bro has not played literally any shooter beyond the most basic ones.
      Spec Ops the Line, Stalker, Metro, Halo and Tarkov all do a great job of immersing me in the enviroment and making me care.
      The first four are horror/FPS games though.

    BTW the name of the game directly connected to Enigma machine. At the end of real ending when father is about to give name to this new entity the game flashes the screen with more contrast letters motheRED. RED is the biggest and most important connection to the previous game.

    Find the right way down through the maze, to the food, then find the exit. Push the exit button. If the food tastes awful, don't eat it, go back and try another way.
    They want the same thing that you do, really, they want a path, just like you. You are in a maze in a maze, but which one counts? Your maze, their maze, my maze. Or are the mazes all the same, defined by the limits of their paths?
    Existence is simple: find the food, push the button, hit the treadmill.
    But sometimes it gets much harder. Sometimes the food makes you sick, or you can hear nearby feet racing you, urging you on. Sometimes the button only gets you landed right back in the beginning of the maze again, and the food won't satisfy.
    There is only one path and that is the path you take, but you can take more than one path.
    Cross over the cell bars, find a new maze, make the maze from it's path, find the cell bars, cross over the bars, find a maze, make the maze from it's path, eat the food, eat the path.

    commenting mid way through.
    I think the daughter in this case died in the fire, so the father working on some project found a way to upload his daughters consciousness to an android/robot, hence the errors and the use of more technical language.

    I like ther premise and story of the game, it hits quite similarly to SOMA but on smaller more indie scale.
    But ever since I saw the title I had a bullshit in my head:
    "YOU JUST GOT MUMD!!"
    Edit:
    I also love the way of recontextualizing the player as "noticible" outside force.
    In here the player is the robot body- The Enigma Machine.
    As for what the "procedure" Father did to Liana in hospital- my thinking is that he either scanned her brain then and there or extracted her brain for scans in the lab (not unlike how Revenant from Apex Legends works).
    At the lab he probably has Liana's brain to make more insertable cores to the robot body, that's how there can be 2 Liana Enigma Machines at once.

    Liana is the program that keep rejecting what was told. The program that confuse. The program who act more like confuse human. The angel is the AI who follow the instruction. By following the more human, confuse program, you become more core, more Liana. When you follow instruction, you become more angel.

    this game feels like the mc liana is disassociating, or perhaps suffering from prosopagnosia (inability to recognize faces) or some kind of mental/medical ailment where you struggle to recognize anything as familiar. i have heard stories that people experiencing amnesia often find things oddly disconcerting, so perhaps that’s what this game is representing.

    Faux Retro is overdone?
    So are people playing horror games, everything is overdone. The question isn't if it is over done rather if it is done well. It is a good thing to learn.
    After all hyper realism doesn't work as every few years graphics get better.
