Thank you for being one of the only people with enough brain power to mention audio settings, probably THE biggest issue new users will face when using a capture card. Kudos to you. 10/10.
Audio is such a pain in OBS/streaming in general! Thanks!
@@TeeChu0ppppoooo
Best video for this. Absolute headache saver. I went as far as to deleting and reinstalling half my recording stuff with new equipment like cables and everything. I just had to redo it and follow this guide. THANK YOU, you have no idea how much of a headache you saved me from!
No worries at all, happy to help!
I just got the capture card and I was really struggling to get the audio working. This video was great! So clear and very easy to understand! Thank you for the help it was great! I'm excited to try streaming with it! Keep up the great work!
Awesome! No worries at all :) enjoy the stream!
How?? I do not have sound....
I got it and can’t get the video to show up need to be punched in the face with the answer please
Quick, easy to understand, straight to the point. Thank you SO much for this setup tutorial, just what I needed!
Awesome Vic! Great stuff :)
Out of the like 5 videos I watched, this one ACTUALLY addressed my issue! I was needing the audio to go to both my stream and headset, thanks!
No worries! Audio is SUCH A PAIN haha
Thank you. This was so much less of a headache than pretty much every single other tutorial video for streaming. Definitely will be coming back here first in the future for any other problems I may encounter.
No worries Alexander, glad to help!
You're a life saver! My dad got me a capture card for my 20th birthday and I was so lost with the software it recommended, and then I find your video and it all worked perfectly!!! Thank you, you deserve so many more subs
Awesome! Happy birthday :) Great stuff - thanks for subbing too!
This was the best - clear description to figure out how to get my audio working in OBS. Thank you a zillion times over for this video!
No problems Shireen! Glad you got it working :)
Thank you so much. My audio on my capture card stopped coming through mid stream, but then I found your video, and it's working again. You're a lifesaver
No worries at all! Audio is *the biggest* pain when it comes to streaming!
Just got my capture card today and was struggling with setup. This tutorial is so easy to follow and super helpful! Thank you so much
No worries! Glad you got it to work :)
This video is awesome! I have spent years traveling for work and lugging around TV's from project to project. Often even splitting with a few coworkers to buy a new TV for the sake of a few months before we all leave. I can finally just use my laptop as a display for whatever I want!!!! I've needed this for sooo long. thank you
Thanks so much Joe! You can definitely use your laptop as a display with the capture card *but* note that there might be some input delay (Depends on the card and your laptop spec, but with most there usually a bit of delay from controller to game)
I would still recommend a separate TV or screen if possible, however! Even if it's just a smaller monitor
HDMI splitters work great for this - here's a sep video on how to get that setup :)
ruclips.net/video/DpQt7TJ8Edw/видео.html
Just a note, your 3.0 USB on your laptop doesn't have to be blue. not every 3.0 USB port is blue. As long as you see an SS (instead of the normal USB symbol) next to your USB port, it'll take 3.0. I have 2 ports on my laptop with this symbol and then a normal USB port without the SS next to it. I can confirm that this works in the USB port that has an SS next to it even though it isn't blue. I hope this helps anyone else.
Thanks for the tip - that makes sense!
Hey I have the USB SS symbol as well, but it's not working for me, Am I doing something wrong?
@@mdunlocked1557 it could be many things. Maybe you plugged the In/Out wrong. Or perhaps you might not have the correct settings. Maybe your tv is a bit older. (I have an older tv that, for some reason, doesn't display my gameplay on it even though it has HDMI. I use a more modern tv and it magically works. No idea how though.) What specifically seems to be the problem? Is it just not displaying?
@@ariakyu Yeah it's just not appearing on the screen, nor does it say USB Video either
@@mdunlocked1557 okay, make sure your In/Out are plugged into the right device. 1 for the game console and 1 for the tv. The USB part goes into the computer. make sure that that video property on OBS is set to the device recording your gameplay. So, find your video source, click it, and then click properties. Look at what the devices part says. To change it to your capture card, plug in the capture card. After that's plugged in, you can change the device to the capture card. You also need a separate "source" to record the gameplay audio.Hope this helps.
Thank you for finally solving my headache at 2:49
My audio kept dying relying on audio through the Video Capture Device window.
As soon as I created a separate audio input source for my Elgato HD60S+, it's COMPLETELY fixed!
Thank you for being quick & thorough with the tutorial, much love!
No problem at all! Have an Elgato too and it can be such a pain haha, with obs not picking it up from time to time! Glad to help!
@@TeeChucan I connect my Nintendo switch to my tv and how using this?
Simple, straight to the point, and very helpful! Thanks a bunch my guy, Much appreciated!
No worries Craig!
Just got my capture card delivered and went straight to testing it out. Found this tutorial during the setup, and it answered every question I had!
Thank you very much! ^_^
Awesome! Happy to help - enjoy!
I legit cannot recommend this video and creator enough, simple and straight forward, I cannot fault this video at all!!! Absolute beast mate, well done!
Thanks so much, super appreciated!
I've always been interested to know if streaming console gaming was a difficult undertaking. Great explanation and super informative. OBS seems like solid and straight forward software. Thanks for always putting out great content!
It can fiddly and there's always a tech problem or two (believe me!) but there's totally a lot of good low cost ways of starting :) Thanks for your comment, made my day!
@@TeeChu its well deserved, for sure! Happy stumbled on the channel many weeks ago!
Thank you, for your short and clear explanation. you really helped me with my setup, I appreciate you.
No worries at all - happy streaming/recording!
I think this is the first time I've genuinely been stumped by simple tech. The one I have, instructed me to use another output device and I don't have one. This helped me out a lot. Thank you brother man.
Hey! No worries - by default you just need the standard capture card, an hdmi cable and that’s it pretty much! That said the other output device is probably an HDMI splitter - I do recommend it as a lot of cheaper capture cards can be laggy (button input wise) when watching the gameplay through OBS
If you find it is a bit slow through OBS to recognise your controller inputs then I would consider a splitter - have explained how it works here: ruclips.net/video/DpQt7TJ8Edw/видео.htmlsi=1KmqlcNrNkpOzY6-
But ya, definitely is fiddly to get it up and running for sure!
Completely new to this obs thing, you are the first channel who talked about the sources being the main audio, thank you!!
No worries! Audio is such a fiddly thing in OBS
Hi, thanks a ton! I was really confused at first but I’m so glad that you made this really helpful, straightforward and informative video for me to follow every step of the way. Many thanks once again and I am sure your RUclips channel and career will grow and thrive (as I hope my future one shall). Keep up the great content

No worries at all! Glad you got it to work! :)
Thanks a lot man, you've been a great help. Now to get started!
Awesomeness! No worries at all :) Good luck and happy streaming!
Struggled with the audio not displaying so this helped me with setting up mine! Thanks for being super clear to understand!
No worries at all! Happy to help - happy streaming!
I have been trying to fix this problem with my obs for so long, thank you so much this has been great! So helpful!
Hey Kas! No worries at all :) Happy streaming/recording!
Thank you! I was having such a hard time with setting up the audio for my switch and the capture card, this video was wonderful
Hey Megan - no worries! Good luck with the stream/recording :)
Same! He cleared things up for me as well! Cheers mate! If you wanna see how I did, see my video :)
For those having trouble with audio like I was, I did some troubleshooting and found the solution. Open your home menu, go to settings and look up ‘microphone privacy settings’. Click change, and make sure microphone access is turned on. Then make sure allow apps to use microphone is turned on, should fix the audio problem
Ya hopefully that'll help - audio is such a pain haha
my audio still wont work
holy shit dude, thank you so much
This was my solution. Thanks!
you're amazing!
Thank you so very much I was struggling with OBS and your video was the most clear and concise easiest to follow thing I have ever watched you are awesome
Thanks so much for the lovely comment, that's totally made my da! Happy streaming :)
This was the fastest Introduction into basic streaming with capture card stuff i ever saw, nice job
No worries, thank you!
Underrated
Totally!

Hello TeeChu! Thank you very much for this. As a first time stream from Switch this really helped a lot. I have a question, I followed all your sound tips however mine was echoing throughout the stream (the sound effects of the game sounds like im inside a cave or the bathroom). I experimented, what worked was when I turned "Desktop Audio" in advanced audio properties into "monitor only (mute output)." If I leave it in "monitor off" (like yours in the video), that's when the echoing happens.
Is this good? or am I doing something wrong?
Hey! No worries - hmm that's a tricky one, usually it means there's another source playing somewhere (e.g. out of a TV at the same time etc)
I would try setting the monitoring device to headphones and trying that way, ensuring that any other source is off (e.g. TV volume down low) - if your audio output is too close to your mic it may also cause a bit of echo too!
Also ensure you don't have your stream open etc in any tabs just incase!
@@TeeChu ill try it out. Thank you
@@TeeChu I think I discovered the problem. I stream directly from my switch, Switch > capture card > OBS. I don't have a TV in between. Although I already muted my browser stream, I can still hear it - the doubling / echo of my audio. Reading around in the OBS forums, I think the problem is OBS detects 2 audio sources - the capture card and my desktop. So when I turn my Audio Desktop setting to "monitor only (mute output)" all sounds my stream picks up is the one from the capture card.
I hope I thought right though...
Ah! Gotcha - that makes sense - essentially ya, you should only have the one source and you're right, the desktop one I assume it's also looping through!
This actually really helps! Quick to the point, nothing super unnecessary. Great video!
No worries at all! Glad to help :)
thank you so much, i had to do this twice. you earned a sub. ive always disliked obs and decided to use twitch studio due to the issue of me not understanding obs for the most part, but this was the most simple setup ive had to do in a while, while looking it up and reading text made it seem like it was some giant pain the the rear to set up. very very helpful
Hey! No worries at all and thanks for the sub too - ons can be a pain to setup initially but it’s super flexible
I have see at least 50 videos of how to to this and you are the only one that I could understand tysm!!!!!
No worries! Glad you got it to work :)

No worries! There are a few quirks but hope you can get it up and running - any Qs, just ask!
@@TeeChu Gotta say works phenominally, figured out the software steps I had to take, only thing I have issue with is running Cult of the Lamb and streaming it, seems to have some screen tearing when streaming since the game seems slightly rough to run with my old switch, but im guessing thats more of a issue of the game since everything else seems to run fine, even BOTW. Thank you again for the help though~
omg i couldnt figure out how to listen to the audio myself and not just on stream! THANK YOU!
No worries Meli! Audio is such a pain in OBS!

This was very informative as I've spent so long trying to figure out how to record switch videos whilst viewing on TV screen. I now realise I needed a hdmi splitter.
No problem Jessica! Happy to help!
@TeeChu I'm having problems with the recording lagging. Could this be something yo do with the minecraft game on switch?
@@jessicarogers2389 Hmm, tricky!
Do you mean it comes out laggy / choppy in the recorded video file or are you streaming? Either way it's likely due to your card or settings
I would check a few things:
- If your card is USB3, make sure it's plugged into a USB3 port (often but not alway blue)
- Try a different USB port in general - e.g. if plugged into the front of your PC currently, try the back etc.
- Another thing to try is scale down your video slightly - go into Settings --> Video and reduce the resolution from 1920x1080 to something like 1280x720 and try re-recording. Quality won't be as super-crispy but you may get a better frame rate and overall quality!
- If you're recording to your PC - make sure as many other apps as possible are closed as OBS can be pretty demanding! I would go into settings --> output --> output mode (change to Advanced) --> then go into the "recording" tab.
From here try experiment with some of the settings - e.g. Rate Control, CPU usage etc. It's fiddly!
I would recommend looking up other videos on "OBS Rate control" and "OBS recording settings" as I'm not 100% clued up on that myself - I use the following settings myself but can/does differ depending on setup:
- Rate Control: CRF
- CRF = 23
- Keyframe = 0
- CPU Usage Preset = superfast
- Profile = high
- Tune = none
aahhh thank you sooo much finally i can record my footage! its been an hour that im searching for a video or a websites that can help me again thank you sooo much!
No worries! Glad you got setup - happy recording!
