    A better way is to connect the switch on a smart tv,install on tv a recorder app and share to ur phone/pc/tablet.

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  Год назад +10

      Never thought of that! I guess to get set up there you’d need to make sure you have a smart tv, are able to easily install apps that can record the entire screen, then rigging it all together, and making sure the quality was good. It might be a little convoluted for most people who want to get into it, but if you already have it all set up then it would be a good idea to try it out.

    Great video. I just started using OSB and also recording Switch gameplay. I found that if you right click on your game play video screen in OSB, it gives you the option of viewing it in full screen mode on your computer while recording.
    For the lesser demanding games, it gives you excellent gameplay without having to use the more expensive Elgato capture cards and another monitor.
    Thanks for taking the time to share what you are doing, it is very helpful.

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  Год назад +1

      So with a pass through card where everything is going to your computer, there will always be a small amount of delay. There are a few things that could be making it worse. If your computer is older or doesn’t have a powerful cpu it could be slower. You could also try lowering your settings to a lower resolution maybe 1080 is just too much for your computer. Or try closing other programs open on the computer. You could also go into the recording settings and try lower the encoding settings.

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  Год назад

      I know! I tried it on apex legends and on L.A Noire so it seems sometimes it’s for content and sometimes I can’t really tell why 🤷‍♂️ frustrating
      I’m sure part of it is that certain games probably don’t give the switch enough power to be constantly recording in the background for the feature to work.

    Do you uave any ideas about the cheapest options for a pc or laptop that could still stream?

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  11 месяцев назад

      There are ways to tamp down your OBS settings to work better with slower systems. Especially if you have an HDMI splitter card and play on another monitor, then you don’t have to worry about latency at all. I wouldn’t say it has to be crazy powerful, you could probably get away with 8GB RAM, ideally some kind of dedicated graphics card, an i5. You most likely need to stay away from the entry level integrated graphics style HP laptops etc. to get a decent recording/stream going.

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  Год назад

      The simple cheaper cards will only send a usb signal to your computer so you’d only be able to watch the gameplay there. The more expensive pass-through cards split your signal into two. That way one end goes to your computer and one end goes to your tv.
      Another potential solution is; but I think it’s trickier - to buy an HDMI splitter that splits your hdmi into two, and then use a cheaper capture card on one of them. Then you’d have the other one for your tv.

      You would have to keep pressing it at LEAST once every 30 seconds. If it hasn’t been a full 30 yet, then just the time since last recording would be recorded. You need to keep it like that or else the clips wouldn’t line up perfectly. It’s definitely not ideal

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  Год назад +1

      It depends. OBS Studio itself is very lightweight. The settings you can record at will be restricted by the hardware But honestly the switch itself records at a low quality 720p resolution so you’d probably be able to at least match its quality plus the benefit of not having to record everything in tiny clips and painstakingly send them to a device to edit.
      You might have latency that makes it harder to play though especially if it’s a quick paced game though so that’s also something to think about

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  2 года назад +3

      I take my gameplay video and bring it into a video editor. The editor will usually then let you record your mic input as another audio track. Then you need to mix them together. Some video editing software will do that for you it’s called “ducking”.
      If you’re recording your mic live while playing then you can create another audio source in OBS and select your mic but you can also just record from your mic from another app then you can have the two audio files separate which is better in case you make mistakes.

      Basically where you added switch audio, you can add another audio source for your microphone and find the mic in the list of devices. Then it would record both at the same time. The problem then would be - it’s hard to mix them and still sound clear. The process for making the gameplay sound lower to more clearly hear your voice is called “ducking” and there are some clear tutorials on RUclips if you search “audio ducking in obs” so that you can mesh the two together cleanly. The other option is to just record your voice over the video later. That’s good for overview type of voiceovers but if you want that realistic live reaction then recording both together is better!

    Get an hdmi splitter! (with your cheap capture card) its much cheaper than getting a 'good' capture card and means you can get lagless gameplay while still being able to record and stream at the same time
    i spent only like 25 bucks or so on the splitter and capture card and extra hdmi cable and it works just as perfect as a 100+ capture card would!

  • @MaijaBurns

    With the wires I currently have, I'm only able to connect the switch from a USB C to an HDMI using multiple of them. When I do so, my windows computer does a weird animation with the window I'm currently on(it gets smaller and then returns to its normal size). So it clearly recognizes there is something plugged in. However, I looked and tried to find the capture card on my laptop, but it was not there. Do I need to have it be plugged specifically with a USB cable for it to work?

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  Год назад

      Hm. The most important parts of the process are
      1. Have a dock or hub output and HDMI signal from the switch.
      2. Have a dedicated Capture card take in the HMDI signal and convert it into USB.
      It can be regular usb or usb-C whatever your computer takes in.
      It’s pretty finicky and any other cables or set ups might fail along the way.
      What you’re describing about your window kind of jittering sounds like when your computer acts like it’s connecting to an external display.

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  Месяц назад

      @@Billytg311 yes, if you have a pass through card then your laptop will get the video signal and you would play using the recording software as your viewing screen.
      If you swing for a splitter capture card, then it splits the video signal into two cables. One to your computer for recording and one to a tv or monitor to play on with no lag.

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  7 месяцев назад

      Trial and error till you find the bug.
      I would check the following things,
      Double check that you picked the right audio input for OBS in the scene , that the correct card is selected. Then check to see if the audio bar the green/yellow/red bar in the bottom center is moving, if it is then audio should be coming in. I’d also try recording something and listening to it back to see if it was really muted. If it plays in playback mode, but not while recording then you need to turn “audio monitoring” on. Finally, check anything that could be causing issues like making sure there are no headphones plugged into the switch and make sure all the audio drivers on computer are updated and working.

    What type of Mac do you use? I have a Mid 2014 iMac and I got a Pass-Through Capture Card and it acts very laggy with input delay when Recording do you have any recommendations on how to fix it?

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  Год назад +1

      I have a 2019 5k one with the dedicate graphics. Even for me there is still noticeable input lag. A pass through card sadly will always have a baseline level of input delay because of the nature of how it works. If it’s really bad then you could mess with settings. For example you can try decreasing the resolution or FPS on the input, you could try going into the OBS video output settings and lower the resolution or FPS there, try reducing the video bitrate or encoding level of the settings there. What kind of game are you playing? Fighting games or precise platformers really highlight the delay
      For example the bottom right will tell you how much CPU usage OBS is occupying and the current FPS of the recording for me, going above 25-30% CPU usage is when the delay gets especially hard to deal with, adjusting those things I mentioned might help reduce the cpu load.

    • @Ninja_Tribe

    What options are there for switch lite?

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  Год назад +1

      Sadly Zero that involve a capture card. Since the Lite is designed not to work with a dock, we can't get it to output any kind of HMDI signal :( Your only options would be to capture multiple clips with the built in feature or to set something up with a camera pointed at the screen but neither are ideal.

    • @DaveNodon
      @DaveNodon  Год назад

      It could be a couple of things. When you go to the audio source drop-down in OBS does it show USB 3.0/something similar at all? If so then it’s connected, there just might be something else blocking it. Like does the sound bar indicator move when you play? Maybe you don’t have the audio playback/monitoring turned on. I saw in another comment, some people had to mess with the mic/audio setting on windows to allow a microphone/audio input.
