Never thought of that! I guess to get set up there you’d need to make sure you have a smart tv, are able to easily install apps that can record the entire screen, then rigging it all together, and making sure the quality was good. It might be a little convoluted for most people who want to get into it, but if you already have it all set up then it would be a good idea to try it out.
@abigailrrxce I'm sorry that you got completely ignored. Though I don't have a recommendation since I haven't tried yet, I would search it up or something. I'll try see rn.
Great video. I just started using OSB and also recording Switch gameplay. I found that if you right click on your game play video screen in OSB, it gives you the option of viewing it in full screen mode on your computer while recording. For the lesser demanding games, it gives you excellent gameplay without having to use the more expensive Elgato capture cards and another monitor. Thanks for taking the time to share what you are doing, it is very helpful.
0:52 you can also go to settings, data management, manage screenshots and videos, and select copy to pc via usb connection (i use my laptop). this is what i do for my switch lite (at least until my HDMI to usbc cable arrives that i can use with my capture card.). i then copy the videos / clips to a new folder and then put them into adobe video merger online. sometimes a clip corrupts and goes pink after merging. what i do here is i disconnect the switch and usbc and try again. this works like 99% of the time
Thanks this was super helpful and just what I needed. I’m not planning on streaming but I’ve wanted to make quick 2 minute Pokémon let’s plays and now I can using your Stick Clip method. Now I thankfully don’t have to buy and expensive capture card :)
That’s so cool! I didn’t know at time of filming and I never carry the cables I’d need. That would really help make the clip stitching method easier to deal with.

I haven't gotten a capture card yet, might use this guide so I can finally release the GBG game I've spent the last 4 months working on, and upload a full playthrough.
Great video! Thanks for making this for beginners. What if we want to record from our TV though and not a computer monitor because we’re trying to showcase a really great gaming TV? What do you recommend for that scenario?
Thanks A LOT for mentioning "monitor and output" - I was getting crazy to be able to record the sound just fine, but actually not hear it while recording :D
If I want commentary in my video, do I need a capture card with an audio/mic input, or do I have to do something else? The video was very helpful and I can't wait for more!!!
Thank You So Much! Ive Been Trying to record for a while The only confusing part was that OBS Updated so if you want to hear your gameplay go to your Audio Mixer and at the bottom there should be 2 gears in 1 Icon Click it and Go to Switch audio Then Click on Audio Monitoring then Click Monitor and Output
Amazing video mate, the one thing I'm just a bit lost on is how do you record your own voice? I might have just missed it, but I watched it twice lol Zoned out a few times though
AverMedia's capture cards are also pretty good (incase an equivalent of theirs is cheaper than an Elgato capture card). I've had their Live Gamer Ultra for over a year now and it's very quiet and the recording quality looks great.
I used to use this weird setup and recorded on my IPad then I had to upload to RUclips unlisted and download it on my computer. This tutorial is much Easier than that.
I take my gameplay video and bring it into a video editor. The editor will usually then let you record your mic input as another audio track. Then you need to mix them together. Some video editing software will do that for you it’s called “ducking”. If you’re recording your mic live while playing then you can create another audio source in OBS and select your mic but you can also just record from your mic from another app then you can have the two audio files separate which is better in case you make mistakes.
You can do it! If you run into any issues when it comes to streaming specifically, I made another video that is specific for that and I go through streaming on RUclips directly. ruclips.net/video/VEt36OmlGDg/видео.html
Hi, great video with all required info for a beginner specially Nintendo Switch, can you please share some more info on the free software(s) to edit Gaming/Vlogging videos for RUclips channel, thanks
I’m planning to do a few more videos on gaming channel content creation tips and guides. If I do go that route, I’ll include something like this - Thanks for suggesting!
Amazing video and very useful! I still had a question tho because I didn’t quite understand something about the capture cards. Does the quality of the image depends on how powerful your pc is?
Thank you so much! Do you have a tutorial how to capture yourself on camera while doing this? I want to make some videos for my kid and put my face to it.
I have a more recent video on how to Stream Switch gameplay(which is 95% the same process) and at the 5:30 mark I talk briefly about adding your webcam - Essentially though, you just add another “video source” like you did with the switch video and set the input as your webcam. Then when you click on the actual preview of it once it’s been added, you should be able to drag and resize that window over the top of the gameplay source and arrange it until it looks good. Another way to move it around would be to right click the webcam preview and click on “transform” which should also let you reposition it and stretch it.
There are ways to tamp down your OBS settings to work better with slower systems. Especially if you have an HDMI splitter card and play on another monitor, then you don’t have to worry about latency at all. I wouldn’t say it has to be crazy powerful, you could probably get away with 8GB RAM, ideally some kind of dedicated graphics card, an i5. You most likely need to stay away from the entry level integrated graphics style HP laptops etc. to get a decent recording/stream going.
Good suggestions, i was thinking to get a capture device too, and this would help me decide. One unrelated question: Have u seen Jjae streams later, last week i submitted a little game with a cameo of you, if u want to see it :)
@@TheMrObservador haha! I just watched it. I had seen this game on Dom’s stream. You really did such an excellent job. The little straw bump rising when someone drinks!! The guide was great! It helped me achieve something I've wanted to for a long time. The thing is, after trying (and successfully) recording on the switch, I noticed that if I plugged headphones into the switch, the game audio wouldn't show up on OBS. Is there a fix to this so I can hear the sound and OBS can still pick the sound up?

If you have a iPhone and a tripod you can set it up so the phone is recording the switch. Then you just can straighten the video so only the switch screen is recorded.
That’s true. For me, the quality of that method is so bad I wouldn’t feel right teaching it. I’d rather do the 30 second clips or something at that point. That’s what I did when I started my channel until I could afford a capture card
There’s two options you can see the gameplay from the switch inside of a window on your computer like in this video - or you can get another hdmi cable and buy the more powerful capture cards; those let you send an extra signal to your tv so you can watch on the tv and record from your switch
I know! I tried it on apex legends and on L.A Noire so it seems sometimes it’s for content and sometimes I can’t really tell why 🤷♂️ frustrating I’m sure part of it is that certain games probably don’t give the switch enough power to be constantly recording in the background for the feature to work.
It depends. OBS Studio itself is very lightweight. The settings you can record at will be restricted by the hardware But honestly the switch itself records at a low quality 720p resolution so you’d probably be able to at least match its quality plus the benefit of not having to record everything in tiny clips and painstakingly send them to a device to edit. You might have latency that makes it harder to play though especially if it’s a quick paced game though so that’s also something to think about
Should work, yeah. That’s basically what I use since I have my dock in another room. I think mine specifically said it was to replace a switch doc but that’s just a marketing label.
on obs studio i connected my usb hdmi video capture card to switch to my pc. i watched my recording and i heared the games sounds but i cant hear my self talking why???
You would need to make sure you connect a mic as an extra audio input. It would be another input on OBS similar to how you created one for the switch audio!
I don't know if it's just me but stream labs is terrible at recording when it's not from a stream but it's great at streaming and then I boot up OBS and with base settings it's recordings are amazing
Could you use an HDMI splitter with one of the cheaper capture cards and just.. connect one of them to your tv and the other to the capture card as an alternative to buying a really expensive capture card?
*FBI would like to know your location* 😆 I have never thought about that or seen someone mention it but mulling it over in my head I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t work!
Doesn’t work for me it just keeps saying, unknown device connected then I would check and it says that driver not downloaded or whatever, this is why I hate cheap capture cards
hey i have just set everything up bought the exact hdmi video capture thing you recommended in the video and i’ve got obs and everything is working, i only have one problem the inputs are very delayed on my monitor screen, what’s causing this issue
So with a pass through card where everything is going to your computer, there will always be a small amount of delay. There are a few things that could be making it worse. If your computer is older or doesn’t have a powerful cpu it could be slower. You could also try lowering your settings to a lower resolution maybe 1080 is just too much for your computer. Or try closing other programs open on the computer. You could also go into the recording settings and try lower the encoding settings.
Hey im using the 2nd monitor option and my gameplay look very bad like its 480p. But when i connect my switch to the monitor without the capture card its flawless 1080p. Why is my capture card doing this? Is there any way around this. Im using a generic capture card 4k 60hz. It's generic but claims to have high specs

Glad I could help! Enjoy! Making your own videos is tons of fun.
Thanks bro I’m gonna use the first idea cuz I’m not trying to get any wires cuz that takes time then record stuff so I’ll do that rn
That’s how I started out, it takes more time but it works. Have fun!
*FBI would like to know your location* 😆
I have never thought about that or seen someone mention it but mulling it over in my head I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t work!
Please let us know if you tried and if it worked !
Doesn’t work for me it just keeps saying, unknown device connected then I would check and it says that driver not downloaded or whatever, this is why I hate cheap capture cards
so I can do the clipstitch method? I mean it looks easy so I take it
That’s how I started to make videos and it’s more work up front but let’s you actually get into making your own content which is awesome!
would you need higher quality input for mario odessey?
No, as long as the USB capture card is USB3.0 rated it should be capable of smooth 1080 60fps recording as long as your computer can handle it.
so i just need the simple hdmi-pc cable correct?
hey i have just set everything up bought the exact hdmi video capture thing you recommended in the video and i’ve got obs and everything is working, i only have one problem the inputs are very delayed on my monitor screen, what’s causing this issue
@@DaveNodon perfect lowering the encoding settings worked thanks so much
Thanks man this really helped me
Thank you so much this helped with my RUclips channel
Thanks for the video. I may buy a Capture card. I wish the Switch could just easily stream to RUclips or Twitch!
What should I use if I can't use OBS? I have a Chromebook, so it doesn't work.
With the 2nd method, is it possible to add webcam footage and a mic?
Love the thumbnail it’s good art
So I need a capture card, cuz im not about to hold the share button ever few seconds if thats what he meant
Agreed. Trust me it is very annoying, I used to do that before putting down the 15$ for a capture card.
Thanks so much dude for this video it really helped
