I did two random and separate overnights in the big T while on motorcycle trips. The first night lasted about (only) a week since my motel had a bar. The second overnight stay lasted about a month. (old jokes.) At least, there were pretty women working at the Denny's.
I actually rode home the following day both times - about 700 miles.
Thanks for the ride along and tour.
I was actually born in Tucumcari, New Mexico back in 1950. Then I made it back there in 1972 as a DJ. At KTNM radio and the blue swallow Inn used to be owned when I was younger by my great aunt.
Great information and history! Thanks so much for watching and for your comment.🙂
My family and I took a road trip years ago,and we drove through Tucamcari. It was really fun, too!
Thanks so much for sharing this with us 😊
Hey Marty new subscriber here, I love this video and going to ride along and see how I like the channel..... God bless and travel safe!
Welcome! Thanks for watching and for your comment🙂
The "a" is a long a in Tucumcari. (Its pronounced like the girls name). Nice video. Thanks for posting.😀
the first time i heard of Tucumcari, was in the 1971 Dean Martin western movie, Something Big..they pronounced the name correctly... thanks for posting this tour 😊
Thanks for sharing. That town sure has a lot of hotels and restaurants for a town of 5,000
Yea its a real touristy route 66 town. It would be cool to see it at night with all the neon lights. Maybe we can go there someday.🙂😘
We were driving thru Tucumcary and stopped at the Blue swallow motel, and had coffee and talked to the owner He said all the furniture in the motel dated back to the late 30's. got neat old cars too.
So cool thanks for the information amd comment. I have heard it is a nice place to stay and very nostalgic.
I live in Clovis New Mexico and travel to Tucumcari once a month to my doctors appointment. We also go there occasionally to go to Conchas Lake. It's really a nice little town. It's pronounced at the end like the name Carrie. Thank you for this. I love it!❤ Hope you get through Clovis some time. We have some pretty nice history. Including the Norman Vohs recording studio where Buddy Holly recorded, among other things..🤗.
Oh that's so cool! Thanks for your comment. I will try to make it through Clovis next time I'm down that way. Thanks so much for watching!🙂
Lived in tucumcari my whole life interesting place, crazy how many of yall hate one it, sure we’re poor but there’s cities worse than us, restaurants here are also amazing, awesome community (sometimes💀)
Thanks so much for your comment and for watching.🙂
that old truck stop used to be packed with trucks when I first started driving just another reminder of how old I'm getting
Me too my friend! Thanks for watching amd for your comment.🙂
I stopped at a restaurant there about a year ago the one towards the end of the video on the right hand side with that really tall sign that's missing off the pole food prices were awesome I think it was only like $6 for a nice meal with grits. eggs and bacon and toast. If you drive through the residential area of that town it doesn't look so good. Many many many houses missing shingles siding falling off junk laying everywhere😮.. once the interstate went through through the town lost all its traffic and probably most of its income😮
Yea its sad how the interstates changed so much in small towns around the country. But some have survived and even thrived.
At 6:31 across from the budget inn is the POW Wow Inn. Not sure I’d it’s still open but next door was a bar/restaurant that I used to go to when I stopped in Tucumcari. Great steaks and a good salad bar too. Had a band there on the weekends so I’ll be it was a happenings place then.
Thanks so much for watching and for your comment. Its great to hear some history of the town.🙂
And they used to have a killer Mexican buffet. When I worked for Coors out of Clovis we used to stay at the Pow Wow.
❤🤍💙 Awesome Tour!
Thanks! It was a quick short one. Someday I will stop amd walk through and do a longer more detailed one. There's lots to see there. Thanks for watching!🙂
It used to brag about having 2000 motel rooms in town. Maybe about 200 exist today.
you are pronouncing it wrong .Too Cum Kerry named for two Indians the died o Tucumcari mountain
Yes one was a man named to come and the other one was a woman named cari they died on the mountain my name is Jim r a e l
And a man named t u c u m
You are easily impressed. The town is half trash.
No actually it is one of the better towns on all of Route 66 with many places still open and thrivng and much history. It is a very cool place to visit. Just depends what you like I guess.
Waste of time and DON'T EAT AT THE DENNY'S GREASY FOOD
You didn't stop and you drove through in bad weather. Not worth the effort of watching. You need to try harder to make it worth people's time to watch your channel.
Excuse me? I did it while working driving a big truck, not on vacation. Just wanted to share. You don't need to watch it. There are people who really enjoy it. Have a nice day.
Good comeback driver
