I think its beautiful great idea
Love it! It’s beautiful
That is stunning!
I like it both ways. Very cool way to control the inks.
Very pretty!
This is beautiful!
Gorgeous!
Very pretty, thanks
Really pretty cigar box.
that is lovely. I like it with the light colors.
You absolutely did NOT ruin it! It was pretty before the spray and amazing after!
Beautiful job, thank you!!
Beautiful
I love it!!!! The beautiful ooops
Beautiful.........
Lovely!
You are so talented! I love watching you create art! Thank you for sharing!
I like the white better. Very soft and pretty.
Stunning! Love the look of flowing roses you created!!
No, you did not ruin it! It’s just beautiful.
No need for disappointment. The pastel technique is beautiful. Love this idea. You could make a beautiful cigar box and put something in it for a gift. Thanks for your hard work with this video!!
It still turned out beautiful. I like how you did the flowers by working and working with them.. You had your accidental mistakes but they turned out great. TFS your talents.
Looks great! Use itfor brushes.
Very pretty! Not ruined at all.😍❤️😊
I love it 🥰
Thank you! Loved it
Beautiful, Sandy!
I like that
Oh Sandy you cracked me up... it looks gorgeous.
its not ruined at all! its still lovely. thanks for showing/sharing :)
Beautiful! Either way- vibrant or pastel!
I LOVE IT!! So pretty and interesting! Thank you for sharing the process and the warnings so we don’t hurt ourselves. 😊
I like it lady. 😁
You can also use the air brush that comes with the Luminess Air brush makeup kit. Might even be cheaper with the specials they run all the time!
Thank you for all the tips and tricks as well as the safety advice.
Beautiful box! Vibrant or subtle looks fantastic!
Laura
Wow! Beautiful, even with the white varnish. I need to borrow my hubby's air brush!
Gorgeous!! Definitely didn’t ruin it. 😊
Susan fromVA I love the lighter color!
Sandy - the cigar box was beautiful before you varnished it & just as beautiful after...... just softer-looking. I think it looks fantastic! Thank you for the tips, too - it's good to know those details before starting on an alcohol inking project.
Kilz is a great product. I used the original to remove cat urine odor out of wood flooring. It's awesome.
No ruined, just a different look.i have been alcohol inking everything I could ever since the ranger inks came out! I have a box I did that I keep post it's, pens, etc on my desk. I use a small compressor that I got on Amazon for about $50, what a difference. Beautiful box!
Happy accidents it looks great but I did like the depth and colors before the varnish. It's not ruined, it's still gorgeous.
I love Kilz...you don't have to buy an entire gallon, it also comes in a quart size.
No way did you ruin it! It is beautiful!
I like it too, I have a lot of boxes can’t wait till I get my air gun. Think of it as a trip you know were your going but you take a turn that puts you on a new path. So, were you wanted to go you end up somewhere else that’s even better. Most of my art work is like that that’s why I love alcohol inks.
Beautiful … You have inspired me to start painting with alcohol paint… I have like 100 cigars boxes… Thank you so much for doing this video
Oooh have fun!
Today, finally, I put on my first coat of Kilz! Hoping to finish prior to 6/13 which is my daughter's BD and the set of 15 cards I made her fit perfectly. thanks for the ideas!
Nah, you didn't ruin it. In fact I think the white looks good. Thanks for sharing.
Your box is Gorgeous! But I was sad to see you cover up the beautiful vintage artwork. 😥🥰🌹
Had to laugh a bit...I literally have the same kind of box and wondered what to do with it. Now I’m excited to try this technique. Thanks so much.
I purchased a ton of alcohol inks and really didn’t know what to to with them, found the Kilns at Lowe’s for less than 8.00. I have everything else. Can’t wait to play. I would love to seal it with resin. So much fun awaits.
It’s beautiful! I love it! That would either be a jeweler box for the top of my vanity and the colors go with the color on my bedroom wall!!! Or it would e on ny desk for my pens! I love it!!!! I heard a warning about alcohol inks and haven’t used mine since!😳. I need to read more about them and then give them a try again!
It's gorgeous Sandy feet & all I love it, you did a wonderful job. All in All are you happy with it? That's all that matters
Yup!
Beautiful! I don’t think you ruined it at all.
I think it turned out GORGEOUS! And I love the frosted look! Amazing job Sandy! Btw...my husband has an air compressor but it huge...pretty sure he won’t share it with me! I’ll be getting a smaller one! Thanks for the video can’t wait to try this. I have many boxes I would love to put alcohol ink on!
Killzs2 primer is a staple in my house. It covers stains and masks the smell! Then you paint!
Wow I've never even heard of white varnish! Don't think it's ruined at all, just pastel. FYI Kilz was meant to use on wood (specifically pine) to seal knot holes so they won't bleed thru any painting (personally I find straight spar varnish more effective). Just my 2 cents worth. TFS
Kiltz 2 is the water based primer as opposed to Kilz that is oil based. I think the box is amazing.
Good to know!
Beautiful, however, my inner magpie prefers brights. OMG
I am not sure why you would be disappointed. I think it is gorgeous!!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The box looks stunning and I love the addition of the feet, it just ties it together nicely
So beautiful ! I have a few of these boxes that I store my paint and fountain bit parts in , new project ! Total Wine sells them for 99 cents from their cigar shop discards. Check local cigar shops also, they have so many they probably just toss them in the garbage.
Oh that’s good to know where I can get more!
Love your cigar box with the softened colors! Use to store random pens and pencils, protractor, ruler, erasers and all your white pens!
It's fascinating watching you move the ink around and magically create the flowers! Did you ruin the piece...no...BUT did take it down a notch. I love the vibrancy of alcohol inks, so the pastel version is disappointing. Glad it's only a cigar box! For us mere mortals, it's nice to see the pros make errors :-)
Watching you use the alcohol on the cigar box was mesmerizing! Thank you for showing more of your creativity!
Love the pastel effect. Another idea for the sticky is foiling those areas. I love cigar box art.🤗
It is lovely just as is. I wouldn't have changed it for anything. You can't argue with perfection!
Actually I loved the end result - who knew? So enjoyed watching this. Thanks
I LOVE IT! I have a 10 of those boxes. Now I know what to do with them
Its beautiful! It was a surprise ending! It deserves a special place in your studio to hold whatever fit inside or whatever suits you! 👩❤️👩
I wonder if everclear (consumable grain alcohol, also known as moonshine) would work...I bought a bottle to make hand sanitizer, but haven't needed it. I got the everclear because you should not ingest rubbing alcohol, or pour something toxic on any body organs thus you should not coat your hands in it...all that to say if the everclear works, less toxic. Just a thought...I'll let you know if I get a chance to try it! The box is pretty! One other thought about the sticky pools, add foil! That would be pretty too! Thank you for sharing Sandy!
Yeah report back and let me know! 👍🏻
I think the box is beautiful. I love the soft colors. You did a great job. As Bob Ross always said, "there are no mistakes, just happy accidents."
There is a smoke shop ( no, not THAT kind) that sells cigars, loose tobacco, cigarettes, etc. in my area and I get the most beautiful cigar boxes there for so cheap it feels like stealing. I have 2 lacquered boxes, sooooo pretty, that I paid $6 for. Yes! Six dollars! I also have 5 or 6 regular boxes in all shapes and sizes and all made out of wood of one kind or another and I paid $3 each for them. I go in once a week to see whats new because I don’t want to miss out on a steal. Anyone looking for cigar boxes, I’d be happy to purchase and mail them to you. Email me through whatever address RUclips has on hand.
recently i discovered a local smoke shop has a room full of these and sells the wood ones for $1 and cardboard ones for 50¢, I'm going to make sooooo mang hahaha
Isn't a lot of crafting about "happy accidents"? Here's another proof of that. This past Christmas my sisters and I played with alcohol inks (they were both experienced and I was the newbie). They are fun and addicting but not EASY to get the inks to do exactly what you envision. In the end, letting them have their way was part of the fun. Lovely box in any color.
I love this! I began a collection of cigar boxes two decades ago and have never really known what I should do with them. I love everything about your cigar box, especially the frosted appearance. Thanks for sharing.
Stay healthy and safe.
It's beautiful! You did not ruin it at all! Just goes to prove there are no mistakes in art. Thanks for keeping life real!
What a gorgeous box! I love the results, both intended and by mistake!
It is certainly not ruined! I did say « oh no » when I saw the colour white appeared. But when you showed the finished piece I was in awe! It is so beautiful! So I know that it is not ruined! It was a really cool and relaxing watching you create this. Thank you!
When you finished the box I thought it was beautiful and maybe you should put gold leaf on it, then you sprayed it and I thought you ruined it, but you really didn't, it would have been worse if you put gold leaf on it, and then it turned out to be pastel and really beautiful and worthy of display in your craft room.
We bought Kilz to prime our closet when we moved in years ago, to cover mold stains. So I am well aware it needs ventilation, using it in a closet made that difficult. I would probably use that box for storing extra die cuts. TFS!
Not ruined. It’s gorgeous!! Great idea too. I actually cam a cross a cigar box that I have, maybe??? Thanks for sharing!!
I love how it turned out. No, you didn't ruin it, just made it different. I think the whole idea is great.
Oh, man, this is outstanding! It DOES look like painted glass! I had no idea that varnish came in white, so you're waaaaaay ahead of me. I love how this turned out. I think it would be beautiful to hold jewelry or other keepsakes. 👏👏👏😍
Its very pretty...when you first started it look like a butterfly...I like it just the way it is...so I don't think you ruin it at all...great project...tfs
Amazing. I love how you move the ink into images. The flowers are so soft and white varnish that you added makes it stunning. It looks aged and natural. I would love to use alcohol but at this time finding it, is like winning the lottery. Next trip to the hardware store I am going to pick up the killz2 sealant. I have an outside chair I use as a planter that needs an overhaul maybe alcohol ink will look good on it. thank you
Alcohol is kinda like TP right now. 😂 I feel really lucky that I bought a big bottle in January before Covid!
This is beautiful 💜💜
It’s a stain blocker, primer and sealer. I’ve used it on walls for years this is a very fascinating way to use it. Probably better results than with gesso. I love love love this beautiful. Yesterday Leonard preznieto did a ink and bleach painting and guess what he said he got the idea from you 🥰🥰🥰
Yes I saw that! He messaged me❤️
could you use Gesso instead??? I love this idea!
No gesso isn’t slick enough
Love and no, you did not ruin it. Did you do all the alcohol dripping inside your house or outside?
Inside.
Beautiful box! Sandy, in your video for testing different methods of blowing the air around, you didn't test a 2 temperature heat gun. The lower setting is warm rather than hot. Is there a reason you didn't test it? Would love to hear your thoughts or experience with it. thank you!
Because I already spent about 100 bucks on all the equipment and couldn’t afford to buy absolutely everything? Also even a low temperature gun would be way too warm for me, even the barely warm hairdryer made my workspace miserably hot.
