I've been waiting for HardPark axles to be back in stock. I had emailed them numerous times with absolutely NO response. Then they came out with a new kit, it's $450, has these axles... and was sold out fast. I saw the video, and commented quite negatively on a YT channel that works with HardParl. Then, finally.. i get an email back. "Hopefully this weekend Chad" At this point I'm thinking that these things look awesome, they have some unique design features that are really badass, but this guy treats customers like crap! Even still, i had this morning decided to go ahead and get them. BUT... if they have this fatal flaw, they cost $200, and this guy has terrible customer service... why should i get them? It's a shame. Can you tell me if this flaw can be fixed with different axle shafts? Maybe CVD? Anything besides trying to fix those pins? (I'm not interested in trying to do a halfass fix). I could instead get some isokinetic axles. I have 3 sets of X15, and they're great, and Mofo has great customer service. Didn't you have the same pin issue with Super8 axles? Maybe i remember wrong. So very few reviews on these HardPark axles, and usually YT channels lick these guys butts for free stuff. Thank you for the great content, as usual!
I still struggle to say a bad word about Chad and what he's done for the hobby in the last couple of years. With that, I think it's also important to know that boutique-level RC parts isn't Chad's only gig. He runs a weekend retreat resort somewhere in the Midwest - Indiana, I think. So he's got his hands full with keeping his main business afloat. I can understand but I too have felt the same way about the customer service aspect. I think he's made a shift from being direct-to-customer centric and now focuses his efforts to keeping shops stocked and happy. It's less work for him at home and keeps him a little further out of the public mingle. Way back when he used to go out of his way to like or comment on my rig photos over at Facebook. But, his core guys and myself don't see eye to eye on brand dedication and overt cronyism. He may hate me. His core guys may hate this channel, but it doesn't really matter to me. Sure, my traffic has taken a hit over the last year since I started getting sick of it. It's bad for the hobby and create silos within it that are limiting and toxic. It's where certain aspects of the competition mindset leave me to just want to slay lines on my own with a video camera and share it on the internet. Yes, Super 8 axles had the same fatal flaw. From my perspective, we just witnessed poor QC and everyone just more or less saying, "Hey, here's more money! Just because everyone thinks your brands are so cool, I'm afraid to speak up against it -- and be ostracized by my peers -- so just take more of my money. I'll just fish around for various excuses as to why I don't want to say a bad word about them." I majored in business. I laugh all the time at so much of what I see in this hobby. It's taken a good thing to be into and turned all of it into something entirely different.

They are quite cool, and i try to bring myself back around to not caring one way or the other and buying the axles. Maybe i can find a fix. I don't really want to spend time on that. Sometimes brushless will give off a high pitched screech that's much different than ESC whine. Some guys like it, I find it rather annoying. Is that what it is?

I like them but I recommend to this earlier I took the shafts out that come with them and one of them was broke before even using it I mean it come broke like were they machined it I guess it got too thin on them and they didn't realize it right there around the trunnion I recommended this earlier to take and put a head grip of super glue on each side have the small pen but I kind of work it around so it don't lock up that trunnion
I think it's funny that Mofo can drop an axle for less than half the price and it's twice as good AND comes with heavy duty U-Joint shafts. I love Hard Park and all, but these axles were a flop, in my opinion.
I think I'm still glad I got a set of these HP axles, but I've also had pins come loose and was already thinking about adding a drop of glue on the ends like I've seen suggested in these comments as I'm not sure I could get a tiny punch to work as well. I shouldn't need to do this though that's the thing. My only other gripe is that they grab rocks, but that's just a fact of life with wide aluminum housings. Hoping 3flow9 makes some skids. I also have XHX pins on (MoFo) 1.8s but I think they might not have enough bite to overcome the pumpkin hanging up as easily as I'd like. I see you've cut yours. I've been putting that off since it's so tedious. Did you see a decent increase in performance after cutting them? All that being said, I've been very happy with my X15s. I have a build with a full size BAM 1900kv, the race mount/tiny spur and I think a 16T pinion. X15s are the only axle I trust to bash and throttle my way through stuff with that much power on tap. I'm super careful with my HP axles and only have a lil Nano Beast driving them LOL. Back in February I got nylon F&R and F&F, and billet F&R, then a couple months ago with a fairly normal $200 or so order, Nick sent me a set of F&F billet ones!! I know he sends out free stuff, but this is the first time it has happened to me. It's hard to imagine anyone else sending out freebies of that value. That's how you retain customers. Not that it was needed, I've already spent probably thousands on his stuff over the last few years. Sorry for the novel.

I know it's to help it turn sharper but I think they should make the pin and those axles just a little bit bigger and you know make the whole a little bit smaller or make it steel and then press titanium through the steel or something like that you know
If I'm not mistaken, the X15 has a better turning angle fresh out of the box AND they have larger shafts. Yes, the pins should have been larger and knurled so they grab on. They just fall right out being smooth and with minimal pinging done on either end. They were poorly QC'd.
I used some e6000. Rubbed it in some, then left a small dab on each outside so it stops from backing out. 40 mins total so far and no pins backing out @@VermontScaleCustoms

SOon as i get that money, Deadbolt is getting Ordered. Found couple places with $99. I come up with few more $ i get the Gladiator. I am torn honestly. Deadbolt i would upgrade, Afraid the Gladiator i would try to keep scale . I'll have to get a Trailer for the wpl to pull the Deadbolt. That would look cool hehehehe.
I'm revisiting the idea of buying some of these axles. Perhaps a tiny dab of something on each end of the pin, such as JB Weld. Or some kind of threadlock? It appears too short to hammer/ping it a bit. New pins? Is it a standard axle shaft or proprietary? They have replacement axle shafts, but how many until i get a good set? Will it always be a concern? Ugh, so many questions. Lol

It's nice because the servo stays in place and just the axle tubes rotate. I would imagine that he has stepped up QC by now and they're probably better than the first run. I would not rule out Mofo X15 nylon or metal if you can get your hands on a set. The one set I have is making me want another set already. The all brass is ridiculously heavy, not recommended IMO for a crawler, simply too heavy i think. BUT for a tow-rig, yes, nice and planted. The X15 are probably the best for a tow-rig because the are quite tough. I think i may get some isokinetics for this next build. They seem good, and i haven't tried them yet. Have you tried the Meus Isokinetic axles? They are beastly strong. I have had them at full steering lock bound up on 3s power stalling a Komodo without any failure.
There's a general consensus among the guys who run shafty rigs that there's too much scrub with those and you get thrown off lines like crazy. The Mofo X15 are the way. Gotta get some of those next.
Oh, for sure, in the same way negative o/s it helps these axles. Once you put the weight hangers and brass knuckles on a set of Hard Parks, you absolutely have to run 1.8 flipped to the inside. The big thing for me is having this much invested in the brass knuckles, hangers, weight, axles themselves, and they don't hold up under load, even with the dual rate dialed back a few percent.
@@VermontScaleCustoms the plus for the Meus "scrub" is that it is necessary for the 52° of steering angle. Other axles have less scrub but not nearly as much steering angle. There is always a trade off.

Haha, I really do wonder who sticks around! So bummed to have spent this much time and money on a rig and it just keeps giving me problems. The carrier bearing rig is another 1/24 - 165mm wheel base - prophet-designs.com just came out with a bearing kit to transform shafty rigs into high clearance beasts. The geometry turned out well with freshly made links. I'll cover all of it in a ne video that I should get busy making.
3:45 well, and thats what you buy some expensive high end parts for ? To be honest i am not impressed with Hard Park. They sell a rear link riser with wrong hole distance, does not fit any common axle, and their shocks are as wiggly as the SCX24 stock shocks or cheapest Injora 32 mm at three times the price and that does not include springs and screws they sell separately. Ah i forgot the badly designed BOA mount and super wiggly steering links that come with it.
When I realized the shocks were friction dampened with just carbon fiber tubes on the outside to protect the coils I decided to never buy a set. I put 45mm on this to match the Carisma MSA-1E shock length and I am super pleased with these. They never leak and they're super smooth with 10W in them. Last year, like in January, I went crazy building 1/24 comp rigs. I picked up an NW Chassis Works Pitbull V2. I was already running the dementor at the time. I built the Pitbull and it blew the Dementor V2 out of the water. I started losing confidence at that point because I kept seeing people making claims that they were the best there is. Anything I had to say about it was all disregarded as fiction until others started to confirm that there were literally better chassis out at the time. Brand loyalty in this hobby is weird in that it limits peoples' perspective of what's actually good.
@@VermontScaleCustoms OK, probably an older Dementor, i am pretty sure that mine has angled skid. The chassis i like. Unfortunately i don't have a reference trail where i could really compare subtle differences between rigs, would love to but not possible.
Nope, Dementor V2 in CF. Released just last year. I was surprised by how much more aggressive the Pitbull was than the Dementor. It outperformed it on everything until I got the ALBN24 chassis from Nick.

I built the Pitbull and it blew the Dementor V2 out of the water. I started losing confidence at that point because I kept seeing people making claims that they were the best there is. Anything I had to say about it was all disregarded as fiction until others started to confirm that there were literally better chassis out at the time. Brand loyalty in this hobby is weird in that it limits peoples' perspective of what's actually good.

Looks very similar. The key thing is that the Pitbull V2 has a 5 degree angled skid versus the flat skid of the Dementor.
@@VermontScaleCustoms OK, probably an older Dementor, i am pretty sure that mine has angled skid. The chassis i like. Unfortunately i don't have a reference trail where i could really compare subtle differences between rigs, would love to but not possible.
Nope, Dementor V2 in CF. Released just last year. I was surprised by how much more aggressive the Pitbull was than the Dementor. It outperformed it on everything until I got the ALBN24 chassis from Nick.
