@@Pkjopjpo-zm7dy as I understand it the producer on it fought with her about its sound. I think originally it wasn’t supposed to be as much of a weepy ballad as it ended up. She wrote it to have a stronger sound but Tommy and the producers were very forceful about wanting to really showcase her voice on the record so they made her do it the way they wanted it. It’s a story that’s repeated through most of the Mottola years. That’s why she doesn’t really care for her older stuff. Too many bad memories.
This is not the real Mariah, this is the good girl image the label forced her to adopt, she was sequestered as she has said, just listen to her artist of the decade acceptance speech
