Mariah Carey, America the Beautiful

- From King Louie's Video Vault: Mariah Carey burst onto the national stage with this performance of "America the Beautiful" at the 1990 NBA Finals. This has been posted before @ RUclips, but with lower quality. (I'd programmed my SVHS machine to record the game, then kept the tape because of the great performance by this then-unknown singer.)
Testament to Mariah's instant impact: pro athletes usually tune out the national anthem, but this rendition left John Salley of the Detroit Pistons shaking his head. OK, Coach Daly was apparently less impressed. :-) Видеоклипы
I love this because she didn't have anything at this point , no money , no glam squad , all she had was her voice and that's all she needed

That was such a respectful comment.
That’s how I came here
Man, I love you. This is the meaning of Mariah Carey.
😍😍😍😍
The best
Imagine being in that stadium and hearing Mariah's Carey's voice for the first time...in her vocal prime and it's live.
Technically this isnt her prime....her freshest state maybe...but not prime
@@jaypaidincash 1990 is her apart of her prime. Her voice was still healthy and fully functional here.
@@PatchesNjose but a "prime" is based off of someone's skill and maturity as well. Her real prime was definitely after this
I probably would have passed out.
Her first 3-4 years in the spotlight was her vocal prime. Her "Mariah whistle" may have put some strain on her vocals over the course of those few years. Her mother opposed to her singing like that, as it can physcially damage the vocals. Turned out she can still do it many years later but not as often and frequent as she did in her early years.
They didn't expect the whistle register... they're left in awe
People started packing up to go home. Totally forgot about the game.
That whistle was crystal clear and she sounded utterly effortlessly. God gifted singer.
This was Mariah's first live televised performance, and she slayed.
That she did!
Like Whitney she does things that fuddles your mind!
When she hit the high note, she was like, "it's Mariah Carey, bitches..." Lol. This was probably when she debuted her trademark whistle register, IMO. Like MJ debuting his signature moonwalk.
Right?! lol
The audience didn't know what was coming for them. A light skinned girl with a black woman's powerful voice. And the goosebump continues... indeed.
Calm down lol. When MJ debuted the moonwalk, Thriller was already becoming a cultural phenomenon, he had been in the business for more than 10 years by then even though he was under 25 yrs old, released Off The Wall a few years prior which was the biggest breakout album of the time and broke several records, gave leeway/steam for his album Thriller to break racial barriers in the music industry, and his performance alone became The Standard for many performers even to this very day. This performance for Mariah was more like when Michael/Jackson 5 was "introduced" to America on Ed Suvillan. I love Queen Mariah, but what you wrote wasn't a valid comparision at all.
Whiistling Winds I think he is talking about how they thing debuted or how they signiture/trademark debuted not how they career debuted lol.

This was a historic moment. The very moment Mariah Carey first introduced the “whistle note” to the general public. The rest is history. Having this documented is truly something special. Music has never been the same since.
