The wife drove me crazy. I know I was supposed to be disgusted by both of them, but I wasn't. I find it laughable that people say he was abusive in that last scene. Considering he just found out his baby isn't his, he was pretty calm.
Rajon313 Yeah I don’t see how he was abusive. People are acting like he choke slammed her through a flaming table on the bed. He never hit or even raised a hand to her. He never even verbally shamed her for her actions. Given everything she had done, I’d say she got off easy. Had it been the other way around, majority of people would be calling him all kinds of names and would have cheered if she had got physical with him.
This is a reality for many. That’s where the saying: ‘ignorance is bliss’, comes from. Photographic memories often don’t come with an off button, and are controlled by emotions- which in turn; seizes the ability to forget our pain.
There’s already a movie like this but instead the lens is placed onto the forehead which is then live-streamed through an app service for other viewers to watch. If anyone knows the name let me know I’ve been searching for it again for ages.
I feel sick with those people who said the man is abusive. Like he didn't do it for pleasure, it because the bitch keeps lying. And I am 99% sure that most people will say the man deserved to be slap or hit if he was the one who cheat. I would feel sorry for the wife if she's telling the truth
bamzooki lol it’s funny seeing women deny shit so much until the undeniable proof is right there. It’s just impossible to them to imagine a girl being in the wrong
ok, sure, but fault is not a zero-sum game, nor is it all or nothing. Both the husband and wife were at fault in varying contexts, the woman for cheating, and the man for being overly obsessive. Even though the man was right in his suspicion it doesn't make his previous behaviour any less obsessive. I'm noy trying to apologise for either person here, just saying the situation is complex af. Black mirror's message is that people are (especially in conjunction with technology) highly fucked up lol.
Lint He was only overly obsessive because she kept lying to him. He had a suspicion that something was happening, and he was right. Had she told him the truth he wouldn’t have had to go on a justifiable witch hunt.
One of the most brilliantly fucked up episodes of tv ever, probably my favourite Black Mirror. Great performance by Jodie Whitaker, I'd forgotten she was in it. Horrible, sad, believable, awful.
I saw this when it aired which was shortly after my wife and I separated. It hit home hard. I had strong suspicions and she made me out to be this stalker wacko. Funny how she was "in a relationship with (Facebook)" the man in question after the divorce was final. We were together for 10 years... I didn't understand how someone just stops loving someone. Maybe I still don't. Either way. Karma is a bitch. The guy she left me for died of heart failure within a year of our separation. She's already engaged to another guy
I 100% blame the wife honestly. Dude obviously didn't act fantastically at points, but considering her torrent of lies and the culmination of them, he did a better job than I probably would have in that circumstance. I don't think he was overly abusive with her, and I certainly don't think that's cause to "side" with the wife, if one is going to pick a side. In the end, the wife was far, far more abusive mentally than he was physically. By lightyears, even. So if I had to pick someone to get behind, it'd be him.
I mean, the fact that she knows it isn't his child from the start explains why she lies so extensively to try to 'protect' him from finding out any of it. Like if he asked at the start, 'So the guy you said you dated for a week, was it actually for a month?' and she replied, 'No, it was longer and also recently and also he's the father of your child', that would be a pretty short episode.
I just wanna say, if her infidelity in the conception of her child was so traumatizing then why did she keep the memory? Yes the reveal of her cheating was traumatizing but not the act itself. If the roles were reversed, you wouldn't give Liam any sympathy at all.
The Missing Link because fi lied and enjoyed that shit. Someone who has guilt wouldn’t be laughing at Jonas corny jokes either or would be around that person
Uh, I remember her and clearly a lot of people do? She's a fantastic stage actress and she's been in a ton of episodes of Broadchurch which is incredibly successful. It's not my fault if you haven't watched anything she's been in.
She's a main cast member on Broadchurch, which is a very successful British show. Plus, she was in Attack the Block with John Boyega, and in Venus with the legendary Peter O Toole.
Especially when you find out your kid isn't yours and your wife knows the kid isn't yours, then she's hanging out and talking to the guy she tricked with you and she kept the memory of it which meant she enjoyed it and got pleasure out of remembering it. Every guys worst fear is finding out their kid isn't theirs. A lot of suicides or murder suicides happen because it and the worst part about paternity fraud is.... it's completely legal, and you'll still be on the hook for child support.
FYI Jess already knows about the new doctor, she found out yday along with the rest of the world, hard to avoid, so don't worry if people are posting about it :)
There are a lot of Black Mirror episodes that are just nightmare fuel to people with social anxiety disorders. This episode made me cringe so hard I collapsed in on myself.
Some women do this and I don't get it. I'm a woman and HATED the wife. ....I'm TOTALLY on Liams side, I felt HORRIBLY for him. This is also why paternity tests should be mandatory for all births
It's funny how she uploads this specific episode the same week as the big Doctor Who announcement. :p Anyways, great show and this is my favorite episode.
What about the Shut up and Dance episode Vazz? It's my favorite episode and i'd like to know your opinion about it.. Also thanks for the ESO playthroughs and WOW i was really not expecting to see someone i know here :d
I found this the most disturbing episode in season 1. A technology that at first thought seems very useful but after seeing this, I'd be one of the people in that world who wouldn't want one installed. The mind-rape when he forced her to show him her memories was so uncomfortable to watch.
"A technology that at first thought seems very useful" I dunno my first thought was instantly how torturous it would be. I'm someone who regrets a lot and dwells on the past, having full access to my memories would be hell to me, I would easily become addicted to rewatching.
I wonder if Robert Downey Jr.'s movie adaptation of this will ever be made. He's had the rights for years now, but I guess he's been too busy with the MCU? Maybe after Infinity War.

suncore598 He was Lord Gillingham I believe. One of Lady Mary's suitors after Matthew's death. The one she goes off for a scandalous stay in a hotel with.
Hello. In this reality, I guess people no longer watch RUclips or similar streaming sites, they watch their on lives enfold. Even the little boy had the implant technology.
Thank you! Finally someone with an opinion! 😜 Yeah, at first I also thought, he was waay to supersticious (is that the right word, I´m looking for?), but obviously she gave him a reason to be. But I would love to know, if he really murdered her. She was such a piece of shit to him after all, with all the lying and stuff, but I definitely couldn´t do it! It´s just that I get that strange vibe at the end of the episode, because of the way, they edited that, that something much more horrible just happened, than just a breakup!
ChanCeNecK it was his wife, so it was a divorce not just a break up. And he lost the child he thought was his daughter. If he’d murdered her he’d definitely be in jail. The end scenes show him in the empty house so she’s already moved out.
I have mixed feelings about this episode. Like you I really did not know what to think throughout. But overall I'm not sure what it tried to convey. I think it would have been more powerful if the husband was wrong on her cheating on him. As it stands, I don't think the episode makes good use of its characters and story to criticize our use of technology and its bad aspects, at least not as good as other episodes of the series do. The ending also felt kind of rushed for me. I think it's one of my least favourites of the show though it is very liked by the fans from what I've seen.
The husband being wrong would have been the predictable outcome as he was clearly hinted as the unstable one in the relationship throughout the episode, so to find out he was right is a twist in the narrative.
Have to agree, it's one of my least favourites of the show - I've binged my way through since these reactions started and have one left to go on Season 3. Of them all this is in my bottom two actually - it's still decent, but not in the 'would watch again' category probably. I felt that it strayed a bit too far from drama into soap territory a little bit, whilst by its conclusion it didn't really know what it wanted to say - or even if it was a commentary more on the technology or the people. It all just felt a bit jumbled, and I think I waited for it to get going more than it ever did - its concept wasn't matched by a decent enough story, but it's saved by superb acting across the board (something I'm glad of given the recent prominence of a particular actress in this now!). On the whole I find my opinions of Black Mirror differ from the mainstream a fair bit. Without spoiling further, I can't say it's really "messed with my head" like so many have said it would, in a multitude of ways. It's often a thought provoking show, and the best episodes are yet to come (though I really like the pilot episode and think it played a superb moral dilemma) but it wasn't half as horrific or 'messed up' as people seem to suggest. I had more than one friend tell me it'd likely take a while to watch them as it taps into anxiety quite a lot - but then even with diagnosed anxiety it was always a manageable watch. It's a little bit overhyped in that sense, which is a shame as it's a great show that didn't need that kind of hype.
so you didnt like it because it was subtle and didnt spoon feed you and hit you over the head with it's message? you are getting a little too hung up on assigning blame and missing the bigger themes throughout the episode.. And why does it HAVE to criticize technology as always an evil thing? Does the Grain prevent people from living in the present and missing what is right in front of them? Just when you think that the answer is obviously yes, the episode ends on Liam remembering the good times. Sure, it's shitty in this context, but what about if you had a loved one die? What if it's a once in a lifetime experience? All of the sudden, maybe that ability to recall isn't so bad. I like this episode because its not so black and white and obvious like the rest of them..
The thing is I don't think the rest of Black Mirror's episode are all black and white. Never said this one is simple and not subtle either though. It's interesting and somewhat deep, just that I didn't see where it was going, which is admiteddly a good feeling to have throughout the episode... but not a feeling you want to be left with after watching its ending point. I liked the grain a lot but didn't connect with the characters. I felt they wanted a twist for the sake of having a twist, perhaps I didn't catch on everything that the episode wanted to tell even after multiple viewings yes, but still I feel that it left much potential still to be explored. Also, I wanna point out I never said I wanted the episode to "criticize the technology" itself, but "our use" of said technology, which is an important subtlety and which is to me the whole point of Black Mirror, and what people often get wrong. The show is about how we can cross the line, not about how the technology is bad "boo progress is wrong and can be a decline". That's why I think it's so important to connect with the characters of the show perhaps even more than to enjoy the concept of the new tech in each episode. And why episodes like 3.04 are so brilliant even though there is little talk of the technology involved. And why I don't like this one very much. But it's always good to hear different opinions and I know I'm in the minority for this one. Like you can't always be in the majority otherwise we would all think the same right?
After about 6 episodes of Black Mirror. I have realised that people's aura around them is darker in gray or black shade after watching this show. Stop this show watching if you care for well being of yourself and viewers. Thank you for consider and reading this. Bless you...
I just got around to it today. It was a really intense episode. The guy was borderline obsessive / aggressive abusive towards his wife. Its almost cringe worthy... but somehow his intuition balances it out justifies his actions at the end leaving us feeling compassion for him. Its really sad because he goes such great lengths to find the truth buried in lies... Only to be right... at the expense of your broken heart.. and a ruined life. And this could literally happen to anybody.
"I was uncomfortable for the majority of it" is actually this show's tagline.
The wife drove me crazy. I know I was supposed to be disgusted by both of them, but I wasn't. I find it laughable that people say he was abusive in that last scene. Considering he just found out his baby isn't his, he was pretty calm.
True. I feel his paranoia was justified, as was his anger.
domestic abuse is NEVER justifiable you ass
theblackestday The throw on the bed was too much but everything else seemed justifiable to me.
I mean the threatening with a glass bottle was a bit much
Rajon313
Yeah I don’t see how he was abusive.
The beauty of memory is it fades - having everything on instant recall in crystal clarity would be brutal.
It is most of the time
Not if it's an advantage you have over the rest of the people, you could be a genius and rich
Yeah the fading is like forgiveness or redemption
This is a reality for many. That’s where the saying: ‘ignorance is bliss’, comes from. Photographic memories often don’t come with an off button, and are controlled by emotions- which in turn; seizes the ability to forget our pain.
Depends on the clarity of your memory. It doesn't fade for everyone, Gary.
when you realize forgetting memories is a blessing
yeah😄😃😇
Ingnorance is bliss
Fun fact Robert Downey Jr. actually purchased the rights to this episode to turn it into a movie
There’s already a movie like this but instead the lens is placed onto the forehead which is then live-streamed through an app service for other viewers to watch. If anyone knows the name let me know I’ve been searching for it again for ages.

Bless you...
i hope you watch white bear and upgrad a video soon !
You're gorgeous
lol be fr
you are absolutely stunning 😍😍👌😘
Isn´t it amazing though, that SHE is gonna be the new Doctor??
I just got around to it today. It was a really intense episode. The guy was borderline obsessive / aggressive abusive towards his wife. Its almost cringe worthy... but somehow his intuition balances it out justifies his actions at the end leaving us feeling compassion for him.
Its really sad because he goes such great lengths to find the truth buried in lies...
Only to be right... at the expense of your broken heart.. and a ruined life.
And this could literally happen to anybody.
