A Show Better Than Black Mirror?

- A show better than black Mirror? Black Mirror has certainly got a lot of attention. And I thought since so many people seem to enjoy Black mirror. I could recommend another dark British anthology show, that is on par, if not, better than Black Mirror. A Show where every episode takes place in one location and features two of the main writers in almost every episode.
If you are messed up enough to love Black Mirror, then you are most certainly going to enjoy Inside A No.9. While Black Mirror can be found quite easy outside the UK as it's now a Netflix original. Inside No. 9 is a little tricky. But I have found out you can watch the show on BritBox, a service created by the BBC and ITV. I've linked them below where you can find britbox and it even has a free trial. I've also linked Black Mirror and Inside A No. 9 on Netflix for people in the UK.
Hope you all enjoy this video and I convinced you enough to check out the show if you haven't already.
Inside A No.9 is created by Reece Sheasmith and Steve Pemberton.

the line delivery of the “it’s like my life is flashing...” is absolutely masterful. it completely blew my mind the first time i watched it. it’s just delivered so powerfully.
I managed to understand the twist right before it happened because of how she said it. That's some damn good story-writing.
Just curious though... what are the eggs supposed to symbolize? Blood?
@@trickytreyperfected1482 I think it implies the force of inertia as Christine hit the breaks just before the crash
@@trickytreyperfected1482 Uh...the video directly shows there were eggs in the car that got thrown in the crash and splattered everywhere, it really seems to just be a very blunt "real life leaking into dying memories" event. Just my two cents though, never know
Zolanark Tullienne you’re spot on, it’s the eggs that broke in the car
Soooo powerful. It really got to me the first time it clicks and she comes to that realization. So many emotions in a single moment.
When she said “ ohh i get what this is “ dude i just got chills everywhere
It actually brought me to tears like it was really powerfully done

Inside No. 9 is a fantastic show! Highly recommend. I also enjoyed Electric Dreams and Love, Death & Robots (recommended if you like Black Mirror)

fuck me Electric Dreams was good

Added to my list.. thank you!
no Room 104? ;) check it out if you have HBO, there are some totally unforgettable episodes.
The scene where she’s all “it’s like my life is flashing before...... ohh...” I audibly said out loud, “oh shit! She’s dying!” I had a feeling she was going to die at the end, but I was not expecting that twist!
I love Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone. I’ll have to see more of this Inside No. 9.
Me too, that's how I figured it out too.
I was sitting there like “where is this going” and then she said “I think I know what’s happening now” and I was like “OH FUCK”
I think I did exactly the same thing too - it's wonderfully foreshadowed so many times in the episode but I never twigged, so was stunned when I realised - absolute Tier 1 television from Steve and Reece and Sheridan.

During day 7 Christine's mother makes a comment about bringing her father to the party.
"I shouldn't have brought him, really."
And Christine answers:
"No. I'm glad his here."
And the mother answers:
"No. He wouldn't want you to remember him like this."
The little things.
👀 Absolutely stunning.

@@moonlight-qr6px the whole episode, the 12 days. Is Christine's life, her memory's.
Basically it's all one big flashback.
So the mom making a comment about how the dad is remembered can be taken as self-conscious. A part of her wanting to remember her dad differently but is unable to.

Another thing, the song on the radio at 16:40 is a song called, “Time To Say Goodbye”, what an excellent episode.
that song actually plays through out the episode in different ways
Now Black mirror is a bit on a downward spiral, I have to check this out.
I thought banderdnatch was really bad. It felt like they were forcing their "innovative barrier breaking creative" concepts down my throat. I did however like this last season a lot. They returned to form in releasing super low episode count seasons putting quality over quantity. But i LOVE black mirror. Black museum and white christmas are two of my favorite things in life.
@@wetteryan I didn't like Bandersnatch either... They focused more on making wacky dead ends, than actually telling a black mirror episode...

I think her memories might be mixed up in more cases than you mentioned; like Adam cheating on Christine taking place after Christine's father died and the vacation got cancelled (which I think is also mixed up with another memory entirely since Christine had a passport for her son, who wasn't coming along), and her talking to her father might not have been her imagination, but instead the memory of her son's first day of school being mixed with memories of the divorce, hence why her father says it's supposed to be a happy memory
Just to point something else thats makes this episode incredible is that the 12 days correspond to the 12 months of the year
Day 1 - January - New years day
Day 2 - February - Valentines day (14th feb)
Day 3 - March - Mothers day - Visiting Christine's mother
Day 4 - April - Easter - Easter egg hunt
Day 5 - May - May day bank holiday
Day 6 - June - Fathers day - Christine writes adam a card
Day 7 - July - Christine's Birthday must be in July
Day 8 - August - Typical time for a family to go on holiday
Day 9 - September - Schools start early september
Day 10 - October - Halloween
Day 11 - Bonfire Night (Nov 5th)
Day 12 - Christmas day
NOWAYYYYYYYYNAAAAHHHHH
Damn
A firework goes off outside of Christine's window in July. But 4th of July is an American celebration so I'm not sure if that fits.
fuck bonfire night
@Ugandan Commando I was mistaken, it was a different day. Thanks for pointing that out!
I literally screamed “OH MY GOD” at the twist.... It’s so genius I wish I had actually seen the episode before the video, but I’m definitely off to see this show now.

One of the most impressive things I get from Inside No.9 is the fact that two middle aged men can convincingly write for women/teenage girls/young people, basically everyone. It's never insulting stereotypes. I love The League of Gentlemen and everything they do singularly. Their ways of writing are just brilliant but each have their own style and they've never done social commentary on things they know nothing about. Just kinda humble and not arrogant people who write epic stuff. I love them aha. (Anyone who doesn't know who The League of Gentlemen are, it's Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith (Inside No.9/Psychoville), Mark Gatiss (Sherlock/Dracula) and Jeremy Dyson (Mainly just a writer, never seen). I'm just referring to them collectively as their collective name because it's easier.)
Great comment and agree
Yeah, their talent for writing (and playing) diverse parts is amazing. That degree of observational skill is a rare thing, even among professional writers and actors.
Weirdly, I never could get into League of Gentlemen. I've really liked every single Inside No 9 with the exception of 3 episodes (which considering there have been almost 50 so far is not bad, especially for an anthology series, which are usually notoriously unbalanced), and I'd go so far as to say that some of them are among the best short films every produced on British television. I'm also a huge fan of really dark, twisted, surrealist humour (one of my all-time favourite sketch shows is Chris Morris' Jam, and it doesn't get much darker or more surreal than that). But I've tried three times with League of Gentlemen, I've really tried hard, and it just leaves me totally cold, can't even crack a smile. I don't understand it; three of my favourite writers doing one of my favourite genres, and I just can't get into it...
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, looks like an amazing show and that was a great review!

Something I noticed after watching the episode: on the twelfth day, just before the ball drops for Christine, she is offered a christmas gift, and says "No, I don't want the present", while this may just be a throwaway line the double meaning of present is something to take note of here. As we all know not only does 'present' refer to a gift, but it also refers to what is currently happening in time. Add this to the fact that when she recieves the photo album, she (and us as the audience) finally realise what has been going on; the twist is revealed and we're given our first scene in the present day, what you get is some very very clever writing. She's subconciously saying that she would rather stay in the land of memories than accept the reality of her crash, she doesn't want the present; she wants the past.
o shit
Meh, I see what you're saying and it makes sense, but I'm not sure that was the meaning.
Yeah, I can totally see where you were coming from but I feel like you might be thinking a bit too much into it. There isn't always hidden meanings in small inconsequential lines. With that being said, you may totally be correct and I'm just hardly looking at it at all. I just feel like if a line is going to have a hidden meaning that it will be a line that isn't as throwaway. But again I could totally be wrong. I know that TV shows and movies do those things. The only way to know for sure is to ask the person that wrote those lines. But that could take the fun out of it since most of the fun comes from not exactly knowing if that's how certain things are meant to be taken. And when you really think about it neither one of us can be wrong cause the correct answer is however the meaning is perceived. Only if the director specifically states that something is supposed to mean more than one thing or that a scene is supposed to be taken a certain way would be the only way neither one of us would have any type of argument. Lol but now here I am thinking a bit too much into it.
Damn this is brilliant
@@paulbowser1989 I think it definitely was supposed to be like that as she said it just before the ball drops for her and the audience. They wouldn't put a line that can work so well in that context there for no reason.
My favourite episode by far is the “live” Halloween one, apparently it was a straight homage to 1992s ghost watch
I remember watching ghost watch, I thought it was real and shat my pants!
when I watched that episode I kept wanting to look away i didnt want to get jumpscared by scary ghost lady lol. (It wasnt even live when I watched it lol)
It's a shame people still need to have this show pointed out to them, cos Steve and Reece have been writing and acting together in awesome shows since 1999, and I wonder, when will people notice them?
1998. well they all started writing together way before that in a little apartment in muswell hill , but im gonna stop rambling now
Inside No 9 is the best show made in this current era. It's dark without having to be edgy or go for cheap shocks. It's clever without the need to bring up social issues, or relying on them. It does what it wants to do and it gets out, with a feeling that leaves you wanting more.
It is one of the most well crafted shows.
it's definitely my favourite live-action show.
interesting to note each day takes place on a different month
1st is January, as new years just ended
2nd is February, as it's valentines day
3rd we don't get an indication
4th they're hiding chocolate eggs, aka it's easter, which is on April
5th is may, and it's about her being pregnant, mothers day is in may
6th is June, as you can see the card says best dad ever, meaning it's father day
7th isn't indicated, but if there is an indication please tell me
8 again isn't clear, thought they're going on vacation and August is still technically holiday
9th is September, as we can see by her child heading back to school, school begins on September
10th month is October, it's Halloween
11th is on bonfire night apparently (was told this by MAX Sykes)
and obviously the 12th day is December, Christmas
I'll try, i don't really use that many subscription services and usually watch them else where online, but if I like this series I'll definently consider doing to just to support the creators. I really would like to see more series like these.

Tom and Gerri is the show's best episode; not depressing, but it's a bit of a mindfuck
The Devil of Christmas was one of their best concepts and did a double twist which went very dark indeed!
Don Gorham It was the first episode I watched after Deusdaecon’s top 10 video because of its visual aesthetic and the twist supposedly being a dark and horrifying one. It was amazing and it shocked and disturbed me in the best way possible!

When the twist is revealed, it is like a punch in the stomach every time i watch it. The best episode of a great great series.
ANOTHER THING:
Her roommate or "best friend" didn't even seem like they were that close to each other. Could it be possible that Christine was mixing up her memories from Uni (or college), and the continuous quantity thing was probably her roommate studying for a class. This could explain why we don't see her much for the rest of the episode.
Ooo, that's actually pretty interesting.
Tony Styles flat mates are just that: flat mates. They even mention that the Asian-English female wasn’t her best friend and that the guy who dressed as the mime (?) is her best friend.
She isnt her best friend

Appropos of nothing it is interesting both Black Mirror and Inside No. 9 have recently completed their fourth seasons with episodes that could be termed 'metanarratives' ('Black Museum' deliberately references several other Black Mirror episodes and 'Tempting fate' gives a central role to the Hare statue that appears in every episode of Inside No. 9). I have to say that while I only got into Inside No. 9 late last year (having watched Black Mirror since the beginning) it has become a favourite show. Having listened to the commentaries Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith have done for series 2 and 3 it is clear that a lot of love, hard work and thought has gone into the show
Am i the only one who knew what was about to happen by just just watching it from day 2? But wow this is kinda better than blackmirror. And it still give me chills
samantha denise It took me until the start of Day 12. It was just too bright, with too much screen time of her family staring at her. It felt like a deathbed, but she still looked too young to die. I think the best episode is Bernie sanders dressing room, at least I think that’s what it’s called. It is really strong as a story and sure it’s not very scary but it’s sweet and heartfelt. A good story about the reunion of two old mates. Also it made me cry...

If you have HBO, there's show very similar called "Room 104." An anthology series that takes place in one hotel room, the camera never leaves the room and each episode is very different with different actors. It's in its 4th season now.
Did anyone else click this video knowing full well it was going to be Inside No. 9? :D
If you like this episode, I recommend a movie by the name of “STAY”. It’s an extremely underrated film that is very much like this.
Braden Moore I was thinking the exact same thing
love the movie! thanks for recommending
12 Days is my absolute favourite episode. That twist, that line delivery, it hits me in the heart every time.
Each episode is great, in my opinion. The first one drags on, but that feels like it is on purpose. It is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable. After that, it's all bangers the whole way through for 17 more episodes. Each with a different look and feel and theme to it.
It's like they had 18 different writers doing it, with 36 different main actors... But it was only the 2 of them. Pemberton & Shearsmith are masters at their crafts.
If you like this show, check out their other works with Legz Akimbo (the duo together with Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat's writing buddy), like League of Gentlemen or Psychoville.
Hiya- great comment but quick correction- show you are thinking of is The League of Gentlemen . Also worth giving a shout out to Jeremy Dyson who was the fourth writer on the League of Gentlemen
1:52 is as far as I got in this video. I'll be right back after I binge this whole series.
How was it?
@@t.n.21 oh great show. Binged the whole thing. Deff worth a watch
@@gkks1998 on par imo, Black Mirror obviously has more production value
@@gkks1998 Did you start it?
Very well done and beautifully edited. A fine intro to the best episode of this series I've seen so far (still catching up). Many thanks.
Inside no. 9 is on Netflix Australia. Love it.
I've just finished watching the first season. Thank you for recommending it, I haven't laughed so much over a show for a long time, althoug the horror element is also pretty strong. Greetings from Germany!
I first watched this video about four days ago and because of it I've just today finished binge watching this show. I can't wait for more episodes to come out. Thank you so much for bringing this show to my attention
The BBC have already ordered two more series.
Inside No. 9 is one of the best shows out there. It’s seriously worth the watch.
