Against an offensive team, it was good...just kidding. Being weak to Fire, Rock, and Dark means that most Pokèmon will be able to get that guaranteed KO.
As someone who uses the pokemon I like and think look cool, rather than the stats, I always rep a Beedrill in my squad. Its a freakin' giant hornet with freakin' lances as fists. Though a 3rd stage evolution based on the Great Black Wasp and becoming Bug/Dark would be cool
You know, I find Gen 1 analysis fascinating. Sure, gen 1 itself isn't that interesting, but how some mons change over time and fall from grace or rise up in the ashes and become somewhat decent or even good depending on the case.
Truthfully, Pinsir was another one of those Pokemon that was never really any good until it got a Mega Evolution. It has no STAB to speak of in gen1 (and bug was the single worst type in the game), it didn't get a good one until gen4, and even then, it still wasn't very good. From about gen3 forward, one big flaw it had was that pretty much everything it could do, Heracross did better. It's mega, though, did wonders to make it actually viable, partially because it got a STAB priority move to spam.
Yes! Thank you! A Shiny Beedrill was the first Shiny I didn't try to chase after but encountered randomly and ever since it's my favorite, this was a cool video to see how the poor bug stacked up.
We need more Mega Evolutions for bad Pokemon like Ledian, Wigglytuff and Mightyena to atleast breathe in new life for these bad mons like what they did for Beedrill, Mawile and Lopunny. Its dissapointing that already good Pokemon like Salamence and Tyranitar have Megas, and in Garchomp's case, actually make something worse than the original.
They focused on Z-Crystals for gen 7, which is a shame. I really hope gen 8 brings plenty of megas. We need Flygon, Milotic, maybe Electrivire/Magmortar, etc.
More like normal evolutions, or just a straight up complete overhauls. Mega evolutions wouldn't even help those pokemon unless if they were given a cancerous ability, or a ridiculous stat spread like beedrill, which would just be bad game design.
They should make a game where every past OP gimmick gets brought back and thrown in together. Just a meta with Mega Rayquazas, Snorlaxes going full power with Pulverizing Pancake, Gigantamax Urshifus, and Tera-Electric Shedinjas.
Those are more just a programming error and a mechanic that had to be nerfed due to over-centralization than actively overpowered, one off gimmicks. Maybe the endless weather.
What about the fact that, even when he was backed up by all three legendary Birds, plus a Golduck and Rattata, it took many tries to beat the Elite Four and Champion?
If Beedrill and Mawile aren't gonna have their Megas, then give their stats a big buff so they're somewhat viable without them. And if they do get their Negas back, just tweak their stats so they won't be busted when their Mega stats stack on top of their buffed non-Mega stats.
How GOOD was the comments section on EVERY SINGLE ONE of these videos? Bad. Nothing but request after request. No constructive criticism, no compliments on how much research these guys must do. I feel pretty bad honestly.
the idea of individually looking at pokemon competitively is just so wonderful for pokemon fans it even hurts his ability to branch out to other things, no one really suggests smash bros content here either and he wants to do it... it's just other popular channels do that already so there's no need it kinda sucks for FSG the only ones doing this so that's all people want them to do
@@alexroth67 Part of it I believe is also a "15 seconds of fame" ordeal like - "Awesome! I'm part of a famous video!" Since FSG does feature the comments section (especially the highest voted) as the Pokemon featured that week, unless it was a Patreon pick. Even when people jump onto a badwagon, I'm pretty sure some of it is egotism instead of actually wanting the Pokemon - and even then once they enter a 'pattern' - like suggesting a series of starters/legendaries - it becomes easier to suggest the next Pokemon in hopes to be featured next week. Honestly, I've kept picking Scyther each week because they said on the Scizor video that Scyther was unique enough to warrant its own video and I'm just trying to get them to come full circle, like they eventually did with the Moves section in Gen 1 Battling Explained (which took well over a year like Scyther) - I know that after Gen 3 Power Creep descended on Scyther HARD and while Gen 5 likely gave it some viability with Evolite the item would likely be better used on defensive oriented Pokemon like Chansey instead of a Stealth Rock crushed Scyther. That and my personal favorite Pokemon Raichu was already featured, although I kinda wished they redid that video as A. Later since they've since started describing the Gen 7 Metagame and the Raichu video was before they started doing more than a passing mention... And B. Alolan Raichu isn't featured on the thumbnail or the intro sequence, thus it was pretty much glossed over aside from said passing mention.
Beedrill has been my favourite bug-type since my first Pokémon game; LeafGreen. I thought it was so cool how it only needed to get to level 10 before you had your first fully evolved Pokémon, and was really sad to find out just how weak it was after the first couple of gyms. Already by the time you got to the likes of Erika and Sabrina, the other Pokémon had caught up in terms of power and surpassed it. Does that mean I replaced him? Lol no I took Stingo all the way to the Elite 4 xD
Just a couple short remarks about gens 1 and 2 competitive: - while Smogon didn't exist in the late 90s and early 2000s, there were simulators and an active online competitive scene. Porygon's Big Show, an RBY simulator, dates from about 2000 and can still be found online, and old forums/fansites like Pokémasters and Azure Heights, which housed a lot of competitive discussion, were the direct ancestors of today's communities like Smogon. While it took awhile for standards to settle (such as banning evasion), the metagame as played then did resemble modern gens 1 and 2 in most important ways, and the information you'll read on Smogon and Pokémon Perfect about gens 1 and 2 is based on competitive experience dating back to the 90s (in other words, while the Nintendo Cup information is interesting too, the modern analyses are relevant too, and needn't be ignored for historical accuracy) - if you do want the best angle on modern gen 1, you should go to the Pokémon Perfect forums, where more gen 1 players organize and which have more up-to-date articles on gen 1 Pokémon listed under "Individual Analyses" (for instance, going by Smogon analyses you might think the choice between Golem and Rhydon is a coin flip, but in fact Rhydon is considered to be much better in today's metagame)
@@bubbleteacore The Dunsparce and Unown episodes were worse, imo. At least they tried to make Ledian look like a complete and absolute monster that could destroy everything that stands in it's way in spite of it being the furthest thing possible from that, amusingly enough.
Now that I think about it, Bug-types have improved tremendously over the generations in competitive. Also, FSG, I appreciate the time spent on research for each and every analysis. Thanks for the content.
Beedrill is a good example of a Mega done right. Used to revitalize a Pokemon that, as far as popularity and usage, was pretty much dead, and done so effectively. I would love to see others of its kind receive a similar buff.
so many things could’ve been done to buff it. better stab moves, stat boosting moves, better ability, 400 base stat total, etc. twineedle having higher base attack. getting levitate instead of swarm. getting quick attack so maybe you can do the endeavor quick attack cheese. slightly better defenses or HP to actually survive 1 hit. an even higher attack stat so that you can put minimal investment into it for better survivability. all of that should’ve been something that happened early on
I remember using mega bee drill, jolly nature and if you get the fell stinger boost you annihilate so many things. Ubers barely has anything for it so I had so much success using it there.
It's called minmaxing. Hasnt Beedrill almost always been a physical type Pokemon? Even before the split in gen 4 Bug type moves were Physical. As was Sludge Bomb IIRC. What goof is having SpA if it's best STAB moves are/have always been Physical?
I might just be a gen one guy, but my beedrill was awesome took him to Pokémon league and he cleaned house granted he was level 92 but still one of my favs
Finally! I was one of the people asking for this since the beginning. I always loved beedrill because it just seems really cool. I hated how weak it was, it just seemed to not fit. Mega beedrill is even cooler and actually can back it up.
Note about gen 1 Beedrill. It's the only sword dance user in the game that will OHKO Exeggutor after 1 boost. Kingler's Hyperbeam can't do that. Of course, Beedrill can't do a lot of other things like OHKO Rhydon like Kingler can. However, an interesting way you could potentially use Beedrill is in NC97, a bring 6 pick 3 format, meaning that you aren't forced to use Beedrill every game. Because you're picking only 3 pokemon it can be easier to find a good match up for Beedrill and note that Blizzard had a 30% chance to freeze in Japanese gen 1 NC97 which meant Exeggutor and Rhydon were far less common. You could have both Beedrill and Kingler on your team and choose either depending on the match ups you saw in team preview. Could even add Sandslash into the roaster in case you saw opposing Gengars
@Mighty Salamance Dragon power , in his video of Scizor, he agreed scyther can have its own video. I mean, Scyther when evolved never became stronger, he just change types and its status distribution changes.

Terrible, to be honest with you. It's not fast (even though it looks like it would be), most of it's coverage move options are weak to mediocre, and it's just overall very, painfully outclassed by other electric types offensively. It's only real niche is in it's hidden ability, Guts, and even then, the above mentioned problems still persist, unfortunately.
I wanted to ask some advice, I’m playing Pokemon Leaf Green and I have a female Beedrill LV36 with an Impish nature with the moves Secret Power, Brick Break, Hyper Beam and Toxic. I’ve just completed the Sliph Co part of the game and I wasn’t sure if I should keep on training Beedrill or give her to the Daycare guy to train whilst I withdraw the Pinsir I obtained from the Game Corner then raise it to LV 36 and higher. I’m just thinking that Pinsir has better stats than Beedrill and probably won’t struggle as much as Beedrill may do with the power increase. Any thoughts?

On the topic of Gen 1 bugs that got a Mega...
How GOOD was Pinsir ACTUALLY?

HOW DARE SWSH DO MY BOY LIKE THAT
First time I’ve ever been on this channel. So I just wanted to say, that intro is dope, the graphics on it are flawless👌🏿🔥
Mega Ledian would be pretty cool, but Game Freak has seemed to drop the idea of Megas, which is disappointing
They focused on Z-Crystals for gen 7, which is a shame. I really hope gen 8 brings plenty of megas. We need Flygon, Milotic, maybe Electrivire/Magmortar, etc.
What about poor little defenceless Dunsparce, Jumpluff and CARNIVINE! They had to be needed a MEGA!!!💢
More like normal evolutions, or just a straight up complete overhauls. Mega evolutions wouldn't even help those pokemon unless if they were given a cancerous ability, or a ridiculous stat spread like beedrill, which would just be bad game design.
@@yungmuney5903 Well Ledian and Wigglytuff couldn't get normal evolutions because they already have 3 stages.

@@dwanedibly8129 perhaps the fact that it's trainers didn't even know the difference between a full heal and a full restore.
@@alexroth67 but you know that's what FSG always says at the end of his videos
Most of them don't even seem to care about the actual content and just want their favorite Pokemon to be featured
@@goGothitaLOL Just because he says that doesn't mean he doesn't prefer an actual response to his video or appreciation of his work.
the idea of individually looking at pokemon competitively is just so wonderful for pokemon fans it even hurts his ability to branch out to other things, no one really suggests smash bros content here either and he wants to do it... it's just other popular channels do that already so there's no need it kinda sucks for FSG the only ones doing this so that's all people want them to do
@@alexroth67 Part of it I believe is also a "15 seconds of fame" ordeal like - "Awesome!

Just a couple short remarks about gens 1 and 2 competitive:
- while Smogon didn't exist in the late 90s and early 2000s, there were simulators and an active online competitive scene. Porygon's Big Show, an RBY simulator, dates from about 2000 and can still be found online, and old forums/fansites like Pokémasters and Azure Heights, which housed a lot of competitive discussion, were the direct ancestors of today's communities like Smogon. While it took awhile for standards to settle (such as banning evasion), the metagame as played then did resemble modern gens 1 and 2 in most important ways, and the information you'll read on Smogon and Pokémon Perfect about gens 1 and 2 is based on competitive experience dating back to the 90s (in other words, while the Nintendo Cup information is interesting too, the modern analyses are relevant too, and needn't be ignored for historical accuracy)
- if you do want the best angle on modern gen 1, you should go to the Pokémon Perfect forums, where more gen 1 players organize and which have more up-to-date articles on gen 1 Pokémon listed under "Individual Analyses" (for instance, going by Smogon analyses you might think the choice between Golem and Rhydon is a coin flip, but in fact Rhydon is considered to be much better in today's metagame)
I know this is a year old but I just wanted to say thanks for posting this. This is really informative and interesting.

so many things could’ve been done to buff it. better stab moves, stat boosting moves, better ability, 400 base stat total, etc. twineedle having higher base attack. getting levitate instead of swarm. getting quick attack so maybe you can do the endeavor quick attack cheese. slightly better defenses or HP to actually survive 1 hit. an even higher attack stat so that you can put minimal investment into it for better survivability. all of that should’ve been something that happened early on
I remember using mega bee drill, jolly nature and if you get the fell stinger boost you annihilate so many things. Ubers barely has anything for it so I had so much success using it there.

Are we gonna ignore that MEGA BEEDRILL has 15 SpA?!
DuskiiRose Why would you use it’s special attack?
It's called minmaxing. Hasnt Beedrill almost always been a physical type Pokemon? Even before the split in gen 4 Bug type moves were Physical. As was Sludge Bomb IIRC. What goof is having SpA if it's best STAB moves are/have always been Physical?

Finally! I was one of the people asking for this since the beginning. I always loved beedrill because it just seems really cool. I hated how weak it was, it just seemed to not fit. Mega beedrill is even cooler and actually can back it up.
I just realised how much effort you actually have to put into videos like these. Good job on keeping it up weekly, has to take tons of time.
