How to replace the oil pressure sensor on a GM 6.0 L in a 2005 GMC Yukon XL Denali; though this would be very similar for any Chevy 5.3L or 4.8L LS engine.
This is a short video I put together in hopes to make this job easier for other do-it-yourselfers out there. It took me an hour to do, and that included video and messing with my new tiny camera.
This is my first shot at how-to, so comment, share, like and all that good stuff. I’ll be doing more- mostly with my ‘29 Ford Model A sedan in the future so I appreciate your feedback.

What would I think of what you did? Well compare to several other guys I saw before you, you are a lot more smart. They removed the manifold inlet and what not, just to get there with direct vision and lots of space to turn the ranch! But you little endoscopic camera looks absolutely great as and additional flexible, snaky eye! to guide. I have seen another person doing this without the camera but I like it a lot better when you can see and know what is happening.
BTW in non of the clips I saw, including those who removed half of engine (Guess real professional mechanics on hourly pay!!!) had that strainer in the line. So I assume that belongs to other cars and not GMC trucks.
I hope I can do mine in twice the time you spent but successfully soon. For now I am controlling my annoyance, once that crazy chime sound goes off, as the oil pressure temporarily drops to zero and then back up! Wish me luck.

I think GM started adding the screens in 2007... I've been told to take the screens out and don't replace it. Leave it blank. Apparently they clog up very easy so people think their sensor is bad when it's really a clogged screen. Just what I've been told. I refuse to change oil sensors. I let someone else do it since I don't have near enough patience for it.

I have a 2005 Yukon XL Denali 6.0 vortec engine. Have had trouble for years with my oil pressure sensor. Just sat at 80 for over a decade. Had to replace my transmission so while the Yukon was at the shop I had them replace the sensor. When I picked up the vehicle the oil pressure alarm went off when I started the car. They put in the old one and the alarm went off. 3 years later I had the cluster rebuilt and thought that would fix the problem. Still stuck at 80. So I just replaced the old sensor with a new one. Instant alarm again. My mechanic is stumped. Had to put the old one back in. Why is this happening? I obviously have oil being pumped in my engine.

    • @BadHombreGarage
      @BadHombreGarage  3 года назад +1

Hmmm... I've been thinking about this one for a few days. Perhaps the only true way to tell what oil pressure your engine is making is to use a different pressure sensor and attach it at the plug near the oil pump at the front of the engine. If you look on RUclips for Richard Holdener's videos (ruclips.net/video/KjAUj5kfPSs/видео.html), he shows the external gauge. That will just confirm what pressure you are making on an analog gauge, but of course you know your engine makes good oil pressure because it has been working for years. I'm going to have to keep thinking about this one...

  • @marshall2368

I got a screen with my sensor. but the wider part of the screen wouldn’t fall into the hole so i couldn’t even put one in. Turns out i bought the wrong sensor because it wasnt screwing in right and the sensor i bought was smaller than the one i pulled out. Just like how your old sensor is smaller than your new one. They showed me the other sensor they had for the “6.0” and it matched the old one and fit but didn’t come with a screen. I told them im pretty sure i dont have the 6.0 but the sensor fit lol

Very helpful video. But the volume difference between the talking and the music was incredibly annoying.
I had to turn the volume up to max and press the earbuds into my ear to hear him talking.... Then when the music starts it's loud enough to cause discomfort which prompted me to rip my headphones off. After the third switch I had to just take my headphones off and watch it a couple times without listening to it to get as much information as I could that way

Thank you for the great feedback, I appreciate it. This was the very first RUclips video I ever made for my channel, so I wasn't really on top of my editing game. I wish there was a way I could change it because you are right- it is annoying. Check out some of my other videos, I did get a little better along the way... though there are still plenty of mistakes and areas for improvement. Thanks for watching!

I'll definitely check out more. Lol I feel kinda bad for being so critical now but I guess it's now my turn for a learning experience.
Merry Christmas btw and hope you have a great weekend

I believe I used the Dorman part 926040, but this was a couple of years ago so I may be incorrect.

Hey, sorry about that. This was my very first RUclips video, so I was pretty bad at editing sound. I think I’ve gotten better- check out more of the channel and let me know!

Needs the screen, or you will be replacing again soon.

Thanks for the input! Do you know if they all came with the screen? I’ve found conflicting information out there about this came with a screen or not.

@@BadHombreGarage getting ready to do my 04 hummer. So really don’t know if mine has it or not. Yeah a lot of conflicting info out there. Mechanic friend says it should and sometimes can be cleaned. I was assuming since yours had previously been changed without the screen, that’s why you are doing it again.
